Has anyone heard more about the latest tax shifting scheme proposed to make property taxes based on income rather home values?
I have said for some time it would it was a logical next step for the income punisher brigade and it looks like some nut job has done just that.
Am I missing something here?
on another note. I have been thinking lately...It is times like these I long for a viable third party....I was at that point years ago and am finding myself back there again....If we could only capture voices of reasons from both parties we would have something that could lead to greatness for us all.....I am getting real tired of extremopolitics from both sides dominating our directions and defining our destiny......

Success?!? personally, I have always and consistently claimed he is the best at his chosen career. Electorally, I would argue he has actually helped democrats more than hurt them. And from a simple rudimentary standpoint, the governor's race is the only real feather he could even attempt to argue as a success, the rest, Mark Kennedy being a doozy, and most recently the Northfield legislative seat, are scored in the other column.

Doc - I'd have to agree that tying property tax to income is not the way to go. I can understand the desire to address the jump in property taxes and trying to ease the pressure on those least able to keep up, but at a certain point you have to admit two things.
1. The person making $25K annually simply cannot afford to own a $250K home.
2. The governmental body, be they local, state, or federal, that mandates a program must be responsible for providing the full funding required to carry it out.
I also agree with your final paragraph. It's unfortunate that ideology and rhetoric often hijack what should be rational discussions and reasonable compromise. Both parties share the blame for this and it's extremely discouraging. I think more members of both parties would be willing to participate in this process if they could avoid being burned at the stake by the rest of their caucuses.
