Gravatar I have a question for management of 950..please pass this on Flash..How are you going to hold Al Franken to this ridiculous standard?...I would suggest he be made aware of this before he moves here.

Gravatar Flash - was this a word attachment? Can you post a link to the word attachment?

Gravatar Inside sources with knowledge of the situation say it's highly unlikely Franken will broadcast from KTNF.

Janet Robert is an affiliate manager, not network management. The only control he has over Franken (or the rest of the FrankenNet lineup) is suggestion and, in the final resort, yanking AA programming.

Gravatar Left wingers engaging in censorship?

Paleeze.

Try to write an article on any of those three topics that don't bash the first and wildly champion the last two and get it published in ANY public University or college.

The memo is dated the 12th, so evidently it wasn't official policy until after non-monkey hit the bricks.

Personally, I hope above all things that non-monkey takes his tirades to his S&S column.

I'm missing the material already.

Gravatar It was a .doc attachment. Should I receive confirmation or additional info, I will post accordingly.

Gravatar Flash, take a look at the properties to see who wrote it.

Gravatar I have since noticed that the memo used a template that automatically puts in the current date. I have know way of telling when (or if at this point) this memo was actually disseminated at AAMN.

Properties did not reveal a creation date, and the name listed is one I am not familiar with.

Flash

Gravatar Sometimes the Properties will show a "Create" date.

Gravatar I spoke yesterday to a contact of mine who spends a good deal of time with Janet Roberts, who said that the story Coleman told is consistant with what she believes Janet Roberts would say and do. This station is in fact her business, and those are her positions as expressed in the document (although I'm not sure about the gay one, I didn't ask).

She's not always invited to all the DFL fundraisers. There is definate difference of opinions. Comes on both side for having such big tent parties.

Gravatar One of the weekend hosts was not aware of this when I emailed her about it.

Robert should get invited to DFL events. That's stupid for DFLers to do that.

But talk about gag rules - no discussion of abortion on this station.

Gravatar Thanks for the update, Flash. The last printed date is revealing.

Gravatar Hey Flash, have you ever thought about
becoming an Investigative Reporter??

Gravatar If you look into it, Word documents contain hidden information, some of which could lead directly to what computer the document was authored on (the GUID: G something Universal ID). I'd be careful not to share the attachment with anyone who knows someone who knows someone who could fire the person who leaked it.

Gravatar Non story since they only have one local broadcaster, Wendy Wilde. Now that Nick Coleman is gone, we get the entire Morning Sedition and subsequently more news on Cindy Sheehan. Excellent.

If Robert decides to switch to more local talent, I will subscribe immediately to satellite XM radio.

Gravatar Funny how the crack investigative team at the Afghani Northern Alliance Radio show neglected to mention that one reason Nick may have left was to spend time with his newborn. His last chance in life and all that. Did anyone ask him about that?

Gravatar I sent him this :

""I would be happy to do a followup up if you care to share your status
at Air America MN and what may have prompted any changes.""

and I posted his response below at:

http://centrisity.blogspot.com/2...out-of- bag.html

Sure, his initial paternity leave was due to the newborn, but upon returning he was faced with a new environment. Now, had I been him, I may have kept my options open and called it an extended paternity leave, but he made it clear his reasons for leaving the station below.

Flash

Gravatar Bill, good point. I wasn't aware of the GUID in word documents.

Flash, I second the notion that you should consider investigative reporting.

Gravatar Gee, now it all makes sense.
Elwyn Tinklenberg (the DFL candidate for Congress that is anti-choice, anti-gay and pro-war) has been appearing on AM 950 once or twice a week.

Where's Scotty Mortenson, the PROGRESSIVE DFL candidate in the same district? Not on AM 950, that's for sure. Scott would want to talk about gay rights, reproductive freedom and getting out of Iraq.

This new policy ensures Mortenson won't ever be on AM 950.

Amazing what a politically motivated station manager will go through to hoodwink the public.

Gravatar I'm sure if Scott Mortenson wants to appear on 950..he would be able too.
I don't believe Janet Roberts will censor candidates..she is too smart for that..and it would also eliminate most of the DFL candidates running for office.

Give her some credit...!

Gravatar You are sure?
Mortensen was on once after he cited the equal opportunity provision of the Communications Act which requires radio, television stations, and cable systems that have original programming to treat political candidates equally when it comes to selling or giving away air time -- also known as the "equal time" rule.

Nice when a progressive candidate needs to fight for a voice on progressive radio.

Gravatar Maybe I'm not sure Karen, but I'm going to give Janet Roberts the benefit of the doubt...she seems like a very intelligent business woman.
I may not agree with her rules, but it is her station.
If it becomes too conservative, she'll lose alot of listeners.

Gravatar Karen,

The memo addresses this issue and in NO way would prevent ANY political candidate from getting air time.

==
""(4) If an opposing candidate requests equal opportunity within seven days of the appearance of the candidate, equal time must be given and the “Political Candidate Appearance” form must be filed out.""
==

The 'Political Candidate Appearance' from is merely a log sheet filled out AFTER the appearance to verify FCC compliance.

Flash

Gravatar Friends, the fact of the matter is I did have to fight with Janet for a half hour on the telephone to get "equal time". She basically told me I have "no business" in this race. Asked me to drop out and support ET. I continued to demand "equal time". In the end, she admitted she had to give our campaign "equal time" and put me on perma-hold for the program director. I had to call back and asked for the program director... Joe Palen then scheduled me, supposedly on the "Nick Coleman show". I ended up being interviewed by Allen Miller, which was fine and he conducted a good interview in my opinion. I could ask for equal time again, but I assume they will hit me with "ET was being interviewed as a "transportation expert" and not as a candidate, but they obviously plugged him. We have discussed this, and I may call tommorrow to see what happens. Currently, in Democratic circles the big thing is "framing the messege" (but we are not the lock step Party and have historically been the Party of the people, where tolerance, dissent and anti-war sentiment has been given a voice), I stood up at a recent d56 district meeting and said I felt like I was "framed by the messege" because of ET's stances favoring the FMA, his statement regarding support for this insane war and his anti-choice views. Look, I met ET once and we were cordial, but make no mistake I will not shrink back from what I consider to be bigotry, stopping this tragic war, and I will not turn my back on women's reproductive rights to play politics, like this is some sort of "football game". Look, we may have to fight the battles over women's rights again! and I cannot and will not stand idlely by while they try to ammend the Constitution, with an Ammendment that "limits" the rights of citizens... remember what happened to the last one? They're afraid I'll talk about abortion.. they're right. They're afraid I'll talk about avoidable war... they're right. They're afraid I'll talk about GLBT rights and marraige... they're right. And then they can talk about me. I'm not supposed to be able to do this. I'm not the typical "Barbie and Ken" candidate, waving gloriously at the crowds while lauding all their grand achievements, when in fact virtually every new policy, law or area favors the wealthiest of us over the rest of us, mowing over the rights of people, mingling state and religion. I am only in this race because I won't shut up! I'm not a celebrity, I'm not rich, I'm not an insider, and I'm not their ideal candidate that will comfort the citizens, that the atrocities, and injustices being committed are somehow ok. Respectfully, Scott Mortensen www.scottymortensen.com

Gravatar Then they came for the trade unionists.
But I didn't speak up because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Catholics.
But I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.

Then they came for me.
And by that time no one was left to speak up."

Gravatar Here's another way Air America will help defeat DFL candidates:

One of the few things different about Elwyn and Michele is he supported LRT and Michele promoted the totally bogus scam called PRT...But Air America has a regular spot for David Morris who promotes PRT... Here is an article he wrote in support of PRT:

http://www.ilsr.org/columns/1999...999/ 111499.html

PRT has a thirty-year record of failure and controversy. It is opposed by transit professionals and local advocates for transit such as the Sierra Club Northstar and Transit for Livable Communities (both organizations have resolutions against public funding of PRT projects).

PRT is pushed in the legislature by right-wing, anti-transit Republicans including Michele Bachmann and Mark Olson. They have used PRT as a stalking horse to argue against funding LRT and Northstar.

By supporting PRT, David Morris is hurting the election campaigns of Democrats by giving credibility to Republican supporters of PRT's bogus claims that rail transit is too expensive, unpopular and inefficient--claims that have been proven false by the phenomenal success of the Hiawatha Light Rail Line.

There are several important elections where transit will be an issue. Here are a few match-ups:

Michele Bachmann (R) supports PRT.
Democrats Elwyn Tinklenberg and Scott Mortenson support conventional transit.

Mark Olson (R) supports PRT.
Jim Huhtala (endorsed DFL) supports conventional transit

Dean Zimmermann, a Green Party member (works with Mark Olson) supports PRT.
Robert Lilligren (DFL endorsed) supports conventional transit.

Gravatar From the CPRT website:

"The Institute for Local Self-Reliance (ILSR) Our good friend, and PRT advocate David Morris..."

The CPRT its July 2005 newsletter has encouraged its members to work for the opponents of 3 opponents of DFL candidates.

Gravatar That last sentence is supposed to read:

"The CPRT's July 2005 newsletter has encouraged its members to work for 3 opponents of DFL candidates.

Gravatar This is really priceless.

Gravatar I see that Avador has come down with a severe case of Evaitis.

Evaitis: noun; 1. The inability to refrain from slipping the object of one's obsession, apprapos of nothing into every conversation one encounters.

Heh, I didn't know it was contagious; next thing we know, he'll be begging for someone, anyone to pleeeease link to him..or worse, just dropping his links around uninvited.

Oops!

Gravatar I think they need to cut off all of Air America Minnesota programs and brodcast the nationally sydicated shows. Wendy Wildes website has censored me and another person for commenting on her "stuck in the middle" simple mother act she puts on every morning. They have cut off the Majority Report feed on several occasions and they pander way too much to the DFL.

Gravatar I would certainly question the authenticity of that memo. I used to listen to Air American MN whenever i was in my car, and if you've ever listened to the station, you that they speak at length about those issues.
