Gravatar Kurt, I am looking for some involved Minnesotans to talk civic engagement and walk the walk by hosting high school exchange students from the former Soviet Union, Afghanistan, the Balkans, and other areas of "discord" can see what possibilities exists when citizens pay attention and are active. They have heavily screened, speak very good English. They are required to do volunteer service and get involved.

I've been reading quite a few of the political blogs (enjoying yours very much even when I disagree) and think there'd be some great discussions and learning. You'd get lots of support (financial from the program and contact from me, the coordinator). Anyone want to show the world what Minnesotans can do with their politics? And learn first-hand what people are thinking and doing in some off the beaten track places? These are merit scholarship programs sponsored by the U.S. Dept of State so your tax money. The kids get support even when they return home to keep doing leadership work in their home countries.

Gravatar That sounds amazing. Unfortunately, I still have two teens in my home and would not have the appropriate housing arrangements at this time to accommodate. But in a few years that will change. Maybe others will see your comment and show interest.

Feel free to contact me via E-Mail and we could discuss a more formal plea and a screed of its own.

Kurt 'Flash'

Gravatar Flash,
Please send Nancy my contact info.
I have room to take someone in, and since I already do regular volunteer work in the community I think I would be a good match for this type of program!

Gravatar I know what you are thinking Linda..
Free Russian lessons..:0
Do you remember any of it from 9th grade.???

Gravatar Thank you for the nice coverage, Flash! I hadn't had Twitter on for the last few days overseas, so I missed your post. Taking an extra week away from NARN today to rest up, so perhaps I'll be even a little MORE clearheaded this week
