Good can come from the strangest places - I express my sincerest wishes that he is returned safely home when his time is done - but perhaps he can help show Iraqis Americans are kind, as I'm sure you've raised him to be, have integrity, as I'm sure you've taught him to show, and want the best both for the US and for Iraq. It is through the small acts, the simple humanity we show, that we bridge gulfs cultures, and governments, so often fail to. Here is to one example which Tom doubtless will be.

It's amazing the courage these people have to join now when they KNOW w/o a doubt they'll be going to Iraq or Afghanistan. I don't know if I would have had that courage when I was 18 but thankfully I never had to think about it.
