Gravatar I am a huge fan of the E-Myth series and I actually paid huge sums of money to have the E-myth coaches work with my business. I require my business consultation clients to read the E-myth.

It's about more than just making sure your business has a plan. It's about making sure your business is a business, and not just the place where you make your money. It's about understanding systems and how they apply to your business. It's about freeing yourself from your business, which most small business owners never learn to do. It's about a whole new mental approach to being in business. And it is absolutely critical to being successful.

Gravatar Great points, Exodus Mentality!

It's the type of book to read once, twice, three times....and then refer back to as needed.

Gravatar Wow! I laughed so hard I fell out of my chair. Let me get this straight -- I offer a dissenting opinion over at 'ol hickpress and you actually ban me from the sight? What, no pithy comeback to display your rapier wit and command of the issues? Is it my fault you have difficulty distilling information from your reader's comments? To be honest... it ain't that deep Lynn. I was just shocked at the lengths you went to avoid discourse. On a BLOG no less. For shame Lynn. For shame. Thin skin much? It's your blog sweety. Oil it however you want to. Oh, well... Simple is as simple does.

Gravatar For your records Lynn. M Todd is hexchief.

Gravatar Interesting article. I plan on running my own business someday, so this will be useful. I know it'll be hard, but I'm looking forward to the challenge. I'm interested in buying a business instead of starting one from scratch, and I've been searching but with no luck. Any suggestions?

Gravatar @Jonathan, I suggest checking out BizTrader.com. It's an online global marketplace where you can buy, sell, and invest in small business. It has a wide selection of businesses on sale, and it includes franchises and independent businesses. Check it out and good luck!

Gravatar Sometimes people aren't ready for success. Also they never planned to hire more people and split the money with more and more people. You are talking about a mom and pop becoming a franchise and they weren't ready.

I agree they need to read the book but also the owner should have realized what was capable and just tried to do what he could.

I started a business and immediately blew up. If it wasn't for my brother being an accountant and me being willing to hire and train fast then I would've folded too.

Most people just aren't ready for success!

Gravatar I agree that not everyone is ready for success. I also believe that not everyone is cut out to own their own business.
