I'm sorry Amy. Its a little disheartening and frustrating. I'm sure it wasn't for a lack of talent of quality though!

so discouraging- it is really hard to predict what venue will work best... it is nice to share a table though- then at least you get to hang out with a friend even if you don't sell anything!

I am going to try this again....I left you a comment on Friday. I think it was then....the computer, or your site, ate it. Then I couldn't get back on. Then my computer completely fried itself all weekend. After my latest post on struggling, I think I am taking it as a sign. The computer wants me to use it less, or maybe the opposite, maybe it was mad at me for even intimating that I am slowing down. Who knows, except that is was a long, rainy weekend with out ANY BLOGGING!!!

I did want to say thank you for your kind words, and understanding and even a hint that you might miss me. Between kids, family and my own sanity, I am beginning to "heal", and finding a huge weight lessening everyday.

Now, on to my sad story of an Art Fair. Last year, July 4th I bought a table at an Art Festival in Whitefield N.H.. I was so excited, anxious, rejuvenated. I painted, and painted. I knit and knit. I made those small glass magnets, with painted pears. I had knitted socks, I even reduced the price, after seeing another booth selling them for $5. a pair(they were acrylic on bigger needles), but mine were priced at $32., they went down to $28. I figured I would just wear them if they didn't sell. For the price of the yarn was $12. A lady from the group, Red Hat Ladies, bought them because they were red and purple striped. I noted to myself to consider these wonderful ladies color scheme in the future!
I also made a bunch of cell phone pocket books. I sold one, to a little boy whose mother thought it was the perfect size for "playing with". I walked away even after a long hot day. I completely feel your pain, but your positive attitude should be congratulated!
(sorry about the long post....remember I have been without a computer all weekend, I am giddy)

Oh, so sorry--what a bummer--what's wrong with these people? Hey, what were other vendors selling? Dog food?
I think it happens to everyone sooner or later--part of the business' ups and downs---better luck next time, eh?
:-P

I'm sorry Amy. Don't be discouraged though, your things are so lovely and it was just the venue, really!

I'm sorry that you worked so hard and the sales weren't good. I think we have all had our share of craft fair "duds". Mine was at a ridiculously hot venue for charity where no one even wanted to be, let alone buy anything. If it hadn't been for the lady in the booth next store buying $80 worth of cards I would have lost money. Don't be discouraged it is just a fluke, next time will be better. You are so talented and your stuff is adorable

Aw bummer on the fair. Too cute about the girls. ^_^ Better luck to you next time!

I'm sorry Amy. What a great loss to the people who didn't buy your beautiful stuff. Your set up looks gorgeous!

oh Amy I feel your pain. My favorite craft show comment that I heard all the time at market days, "Oh, that's different." Said in not so nice a tone and how many times have I heard, "Oh I can make that." I have the hardest time at smaller craft shows here in Texas. Not to mention it's too hot to be outside! Thank God for galleries and shops.

Thanks, everyone, for the moral support! I'm just glad the weather was forgiving and I had a perfect shady spot to people and dog watch.

As far as I could tell there were only two vendors not selling anything specifically for use by dogs...me and a potter from Waxahachie (or was it Wichita Falls?). With that in mind, you would think after thirteen years of running this event the people who jury the arts and crafts portion would feel some sort of ethical obligation to not just take people's money knowing full well, their products weren't going to fit the event. Sigh.

Such a bummer. We've all had a few bum events. Part of the learning curve, I guess. Your goodies are so gorgeous, and the setup WAS lovely, and the best perk was all the poochies. The best!

Bigger wishes for a FINE, Fantastic show next time. =)
