We had to go through the allergy panel for my teenage son - he had a sever reaction to calamari - and it turned out that the while he did react to the shellfish family, it was nothing like the dust mites. Raised, red, and blotchy to beat the band. He doesn't have asthma, but has always had the lingering, seal-bark coughs, whenever he gets a cold. Nice, head-turning coughs; great for when you're out in public.

Anyway, as I go on and on, the best defense are those mattress and pillow covers, because that is the tropical vacation paradise for those pesky mites. But I'm sure you were probably handed some catalog at the allergist's office. Another thing, I don't know what your comfort zone for alternative medicine is, but we have had great success with homeopathic remedies. Good luck and breathe!

I have asthma and both my kids have had bouts of it and been prescribed medicines. But both seem to have outgrown it, so there is hope out there. My asthma is affected by outdoor temperature, perfumes, air quality and cats from other houses (we have two). Go figure.

dusting. it's always on my "to do" list, never on my "done" list.

we have allergies here too. mostly my husband.
The bed and pillow bags worked really well but I still don't dust as much as I could.

I have heard that it is easier if you have a wee dusting kit for each area of the house so you can zap each area as you go. Swiffers off the stick are good and disposable which isn't my fave but it seem like it is better for the allergy sufferers to get it out of the house.

good luck!

Just when I think I live on a roller coaster, I come visit you and see that, you are going higher, faster, longer ... weeeeeee
I am sorry to hear about the allergies. I hate dust, I can acually smell it in my house. I used to dust all the time, take all the sofa cushions to the backyard and beat the daylights and dustmites and dog dander out of them. I have become lax of late, and when I was crawling around under the computer the other day, came up and later had a terrible sinus headache
Can't wait to see your published work soooo exciting. I dont know about the swiffer thingies, I vacuum and vacuum everything I can
