I don't think there will be much more than a short media sensation. The wingnuts will play moral equivalence games, claim the rapes and torture were the work of a few more bad apples and whatever necrophilia they filmed was the result of being driven mad by the evil insurgents.
The Bushist base is pretty comfortable with torture, degradation and murder. The troll, CIR, worried about the bad PR last time photos came out, but managed to recover quickly. So did all the rugged individualists who parrot Instapundit.
Cretins like Schumer made excuses for it and Eugene Volohk thinks it has a place in our legal system. There even some idiotic liberals and left wingers who feel comfortable with a "ticking time bomb" gedanken experiment.

When I say the 'shit will hit the fan,' I mean internationally. I've long lost confidence in the 'merkuns' outrage meter. Bushists will throw up all sorts of smokecreens, and much of the public will continue to look the other way. I'm not expecting much more than that.
If the rape parts become public, this will cause huge problems abroad: massive demonstrations in a variety of Arab and Muslim countries that will make the outrage over killings and Quran mistreatment look like nothing. If I was affiliated with an overseas American embassy, I'd be praying that this stuff doesn't get out.

We need photos. Most of America can't read a sentence more than a few words long. We need pictures splashed on every wall.

Unfortunately, yes. The horrors can exist in print, as they do, but it just doesn't hit home until there's something to plaster on the wall.
