that's what happen here in OZ and NZ...it is common that the restaurants will provide containers for you to pack any food that you can't finish..so many kiasu asian asked for refill of the side dishes and rice and packed them...I have seen one packed a whole container of kimchi....or a family of four will order 1 main dish and extra rice..so now there is a minumum charge for each pax in these Korean restaurants....but they are still very generous in the portion...if there is any side dishes that I dun like, I will tell them so that no food are wasted...

Hi Julia,
That food looks good. =P
I was told that there weren't very many GOOD Korean restaurants in S'pore and I'm so glad you found one! Are the prices high or do they seem high because you're in a "proper" restaurant?

Hi Julia,
Do they have the Korean BBQ on the cast iron grills? I like the mixed rice, especially when it's piping hot. I'll try it out one of these days...thanks for checking it out!

Oh this actually reminds me of a Korean hole in the wall place in Columbus Georgia where I lived. It was a great place with really authentic food and the ban chan was to die for My favorite next to the kim chi was the bean sprouts.
Thanks for sharing!

I love the Jap Chae too.. one of my all time favourites.. when i go to a korean rest.
I had almost the same chicken soup.. when i was in Seoul many moons ago.. for work.. it was home-made by a co-worker's wife.. but she didn't have ginseng.. she had some other herbs.. and it was way too delicious.. i have a recipe for it .. somewhere..
The pics were great.. and luckier.. i'm on highspeed..
Cheers..!!

mik, oh gosh, so it seems some kiasu Asians in OZ and NZ have already "spoiled the market"! Asians who are reading this, please don't be guilty of this kinda behaviour and give us Asians a bad name.
Reid, it's true that there aren't many good Korean restaurants in S'pore; I can count only about 5 or 6 that are recommended by my Korean friends here.
I'd say that the prices here are pretty reasonable; not cheap, but not that expensive either. It's quite typical to spend S$20 or more per person in an Orchard Road restaurant. Don't quite know your definition of a "proper restaurant", but the setting at CJGC is classy yet casual, and it's located in an upmarket shopping mall downtown in a prime location (read "expensive rent"). Besides, the service is quite good, and the waitresses are smartly dressed in ethnic Korean dress.

Hi Shirley, welcome to my blog! Yes, they do have Korean BBQ, although I've not tried it yet. The grill is hidden under each table.
stef, oh yes, I always look forward to the ban chan when I go to Korean restaurants. There's such a wide variety and they're always so appetising! I don't have a favorite; I like them all!
pinkcocoa, any good Korean restaurants in Sydney to share? Actually, the seafood pancake is easy to make if you can get hold of the premix flour.
hey MrsTweety, thank you for regularly visiting my blog! Your comments have been a great encouragement. Please post your chicken soup recipe on your blog soon; I can't wait to read it.

You know, you take such appetizing photos, and I so rarely can eat the stuff you blog about!
Too bad I'm not one of those 'cheater' vegetarians...you know, the kind who eats fish!

hi toru, welcome to my blog! are you referring to the chicken soup? I've never tried making it, but I don't think it's very difficult to make, just that it takes a few hours to cook.
Stephanie, nice to see you again. Actually, for Chinese vegetarian cooking, you can still get to eat "meat" and "seafood"! Ok, not really. They're just the mock versions made of flour or gluten.

Hi Julia
There are quite a lot of korean restaurants in Sydney but I havent been to one that had me wanting to go back for more yet :P
Saw the korean pancake pre-mixes at the korean groceries store today. I wonder if I could just make the pancake using normal flour. Any idea?
