That he could vote for someone of another religion because they are \"willing to admit\" that the job of the presidency is \"too big for one person\" speaks pretty loudly to the fact that apparently it doesn't matter to these people whether or not that \"other person\" actually exists.

If you know Ricks point IN CONTEXT, you \"might\" hear it differently. What he actually says in other places is that your convictions will determine your decisions. Convictions such as the belief of spiritual freedome of our founding fathers of whom nearly 2/3 who signed the consitution were PASTORS! Your beliefs drive your decisions. If you believe in evolutionary \"ONLY THE STRONG SURVIVE\" then your decisions in government will be influenced by that. Do you want that the next time YOU are sick in the hospital? Do you want an evolutionist in the decision making capacity to decide if you should get some medical help or if we should use those resources on the strong? My guess is that many on this board are angry at god/religion or of the mindset that you do not want to be accountable to a \"higher power.\" For all the blathering of how rational it is to NOT believe... I think you miss the best that those beliefs have offered us over the years. America and freedom is one of those things... there are countless others. INCLUDING HOSPITALS which began as an outreach of the church to help the hurting and diseased. You do remember the story of Jesus right? Going around healing and doing good? Regardless of if you believe it or not, the fact is that hospitals were founded on the notion that we should try to be like JESUS and heal the sick. What is more, often you all like to blast the church as ignorant or non-thinking. Do you even KNOW who started the study of genetics? MONKS. Do you know who Galileo was trying to praise by studying the heavens and their movements? True some in the church didn't like it... but if you ever READ original sources you'd see he was after the PRAISE of almighty God by studying his creation. These are good things that come from belief. Are there bad also? Yes, of course. But I cannot remember the last time an atheist bothered to acknowledge what has been GOOD about the belief in God.
