Great quotes Atheling! Good to see you posting again. Here is one of my favorites. Visualize the Twin Towers and their wreckage while reading it.
"Contemplate the mangled bodies of your countrymen, and then say,
'What should be the reward of such sacrifices?' Bid us and our
posterity bow the knee, supplicate the friendship, and plough,
and sow, and reap, to glut the avarice of the men who have let
loose on us the dogs of war to riot in our blood and hunt us from
the face of the earth? If ye love wealth better than liberty, the
tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom,
go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch
down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit
lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our
countrymen!" --Samuel Adams
I also like the speech Aragorn gave to the "Men of the West" before the mighty gates of Mordor and I almost have it memorized. It could also be applied to the war against Islamo-fascism.
Have a great day!

Douglas! Great to hear from you. And thank you for the poem. I read it a while ago and had forgotten who wrote it, so I thank you doubly.
Yes, Aragorn's stirring speech before the last battle at the Black Gates do reminds me of our war with Islamofascism - did you notice that the "men from the East" looked Arab??? I was gratified that Peter Jackson did not swerve from the book in that regard.

My sister was visiting and we went up, where I had not been in 10 years. Guess what? I have acrophobia. I can't stand the height - over 5,000 feet. I felt vertigo when I looked down.
Guess I'll never climb mountains. :-(

That is ok Atheling2,
You can still enjoy the view with out and just don't look down.
As a climber it is good to be a little scared once you lose that then you will be in danger of falling for sure and on the way down wondering what went wrong? It won't matter much then so LOL it's good to be careful.
I noticed things change too with balance when you are in your 50's. It's not the same is it? LOL...
The great outdoors are wonderful and days like today we can't complain!
