Gravatar Hmmmm, she DOES look like Nancy Pelosi...

Gravatar Atheling2 --

This is a highly intriguing and informative post.

While I have to disagree with BB's observation -- NOBODY looks like Nancy Pelosi except Nancy Pelosi, and thank G-D for it! -- I must admit that Royal and Pelosi, along with the rest of our own extreme leftist crowd share one well defined trait: They run a stealth campaign. Notice how Royal waited until after she beat her (fellow) socialist opponent before she announced her real agenda. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

Like the Dems here running a lot of more conservative Democrats to win the majority, then giving committee chairs only to extreme liberals.

If the voters in the State of Surrender actually elect Royal to the presidency, it will only confirm the fact that the majority in France are still delusional enough to believe that their has-been country still merits a role as a leader in Europe, and that they believe the socialist EU can thrive without any real interaction with the U.S.

In the event of a Royal presidency, one could only hope, for the sake of an entire continent, that the rest of the EU, or at least a significant majority, would exercise common sense and reject her ambitions out of hand.

What I actually see in the eventuality of Royal's election is a rift that might potentially result in either the dissolution of the EU or the relegation of France to a rightfully acknowledged position of complete irrelevance in future EU transactions.

I totally agree that a European army would be less than a joke without the Brits, and I wonder whether the UK, given the animosity of many of its citizens, at least in England(I don't know what the bulk Irish, Welsh and Scottish attitudes are) toward the U.S. as discussed in one of your previous posts, would actually go along with such madness. Should they do so, it would simply be more socialism in action, the "haves" supporting the "have nots", and in the event of war, the Brits would get the burnt umber(see "Crayola") end of the stick.

This whole thing will be very interesting to watch.

Gravatar When Royal says "we all end up paying the bill" just what bill is she talking about?

What has France done to help in the reconstruction of Iraq?

For that matter, what has France done to help with Iran, or Lebanon?

And remind me... When was the last time France actually LED an effective international effort?

I miss the good old days when Margaret Thatcher could cut the frogs back down to size. I hope the Brits don't fall for the siren song this time around.

Gravatar BB:

I do think she and Nancy share some things, except Royal doesn't have that habitual finger pointing thing going.

Seth:

Well... she could look like Nancy Pelosi if she had plastic surgery to lift her eyelids... I heard she likes to wear white... the color of the French flag!

Mike:

Good questions. I miss Margaret Thatcher too. I'm opposed to cloning, but if we had to do it she ought to be cloned.

The French have had real self esteem problems in the past 8 decades, and for good reason too. Whenever I hear one of their government officials spouting about "exporting" French culture and French influence around the world I have to smirk.

France reminds me of a camellia flower. You know, the kind of flower that stubbornly hangs onto the bush after it's lost its bloom a long time ago.

Gravatar sounds like the final touches of the New Roman Empire. Britain, I think, is the last puzzle piece. They are the only thing that keeps Europe from going completely Anti-common sense.

Gravatar Ath,

Happy Thanksgiving and all the best to you and yours.

Gravatar And to think as a child I was forced to take 9 years of French Language/History classes in private school--and from real French teachers, not US clones.

It was interesting to my French teachers try to inflate the Resistance's importance concerning the liberation of France...and even more interesting how they skipped over the whole Vietnam/Cold War thing.

Personally, I despise that country and everything it represents.

Gravatar Nice piece..and good commentary.

Gravatar Jay,

Thanks!

WB,

I took French as well in high school and in college, though neither of my teachers were French, thank goodness. I now wish I took Spanish!

Gravatar Atheling: I've got some camellias like that. I go out and pull the rotting blooms off. Too bad we can't do that with France.

Gravatar Wow, I just thought of something. Maybe what she's trying to do is create an EU Army of conscripted Muslims (i.e. "Asians", "youth"). They're all lying about collecting the dole. Then, when war finally breaks out over there, they'll beg us to come back and we'll have to kill their army. And that's how the EU will be rid of their Muslim problem.

*smacks forehead! Lesson: Never get involved in a European war again!*

Gravatar atheling2:

I feel your pain, too about the French lessons. But I have to tell you, when your teachers are French (one was from Paris, the other Orleans, home of the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre) it's even worse.

And if I hear one more Frenchman or woman tell me how vital C. de. G. was in winning WWII in Europe I am sure I'll puke. I have had it with France and anything (or any one) that has anything to do with that pathetic country. If I had the money, I'd pay to have every single US soldier buried there, dug up and brought back to the United States--even though they are considered buried on US soil over there, I still get angry thinking about them being in a country that so hates us and the tremendous sacrifices had to make to save their sorry country--and to rebuild it...

Sorry for the rant...I just really can't stand France and it's a sore spot with me.

Gravatar WB:

Rant ahead. I dislike the French as much as you, however I do know some nice French Americans. And actually, Jacques Pepin is my favorite chef... but politically speaking, *spit*!

France's role in WWII was, uh, to put it delicately, less than stellar and de Gaulle was a pain in the neck to the other Allies. I completely agree with you that we should bring our buried heroes there back to American soil, especially if Europe will be overrun with Islam...

Gravatar atheling2:

That's funny! I like Jacques Pepin as a chef, too. Watch him every Saturday. Yeah, there are some pretty nice Franco-Americans, but as for the French in general--especially those in France...I have absolutely no use for them.

Gravatar WB:

Agreed. No use for them. I'll be royally annoyed if they all come running here after their beloved France succumbs to the Islamic invasion. Last thing we need are the socialist sneering French on our soil. I say get our buried soldiers out of there first!

Gravatar I'm glad I took Spanish in school (good thing, too, as I've spent a good amount of time in Spanish speaking places and zero in French speaking ones). If I was forced to try to learn French, I'd probably choke to death from the pronunciation.

Luckily, since France is a has-been, never will be again country, I won't ever need to.

Atheling2, have you tried this:

Go to Google, type in "French Military Victories" and click on "I Feel Lucky"?

Gravatar O.My.Gosh.

That is TOO FUNNY!!!

Gravatar I thought you'd appreciate it.

Gravatar Look if you really want to know where France's real military power is look up the French Foreign Legion. The only reason the Legion is such a awsome military unit is because there are no frenchmen associated with it. The FFL is made up of mostly men who are not French.
