Good post, pics and video, Atheling2.
I can't say I'm overly amazed at this incident, given the socialist nature of Belgium, and indeed that of some of the other Euro states.
I have three observations here:
1. This is the way any socialist or socialist-leaning government would prefer to handle political dissent -- before dissenters or anybody else, for that matter, can convey any message or opinion the government doesn't want communicated, just scoop 'em up as quickly and expediently as possible and haul 'em away. The whole point is to shut 'em up so that only the party line is heard.
Look at the liberals (socialists) here in the U.S. They lie (this includes the MSM), spin, manipulate, obfuscate, slander and do whatever else it takes to conceal any politically inconvenient truths. The vast majority of the time that you see a liberal "debating" a conservative on a talk show, the lefty doesn't stop talking, raising his/her voice when necessary to assure that the conservative's POV is not even heard.
I imagine that if our political left ever managed to change the Constitution to their liking and held both the White House and an overwhelming Congressional majority, we would see the same things happening here. They would find some brazen way of determining which opinions qualified for 1st Amendment rights and which didn't.
2. The Belgian govt was obviously kissing up to Islam: I'll bet if Islamic Rage Boy and his friends were to hold a demonstration that included signs like "Butcher Infidels!" and "Behead All Jews!" they would go unmolested by the same police force -- there would probably be a large detail onsite to protect Muslims' exclusive right to free speech.
3. The incident is merely further proof that Europeans, accustomed to the "Utopian" socialist environment and all the propaganda that entails, have become (and this after years of pontificating that the U.S. is a new country compared to their own centuries of statehood) little more than naive children, easily led by disinformation and elected officials whose worldviews and foresight rival those of Mr. Magoo.
I mean, here are countries that shared their continent with history's ultimate socialist empire and, had it not been for the U.S., would have lived in daily fear that the U.S.S.R. would one day decide they needed to expand their real estate inventory.
Now that the Soviet machine has been Chapter 11 for so many years, these idiots seem to aspire to adopting their style of government, including, as Belgium has now demonstrated, a more thuggish way of silencing those who speak out.
Europe will never learn from its mistakes. Not ever.

Disgraceful and disgusting.
"They came for the communists, and I did not speak up because I wasn't a communist;
They came for the socialists, and I did not speak up because I was not a socialist;
They came for the union leaders, and I did not speak up because I wasn't a union leader;
They came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak up for me."
--Martin Niemoller, 1892-1984, writing about the roundups by the NAZIs.
History is rhyming with itself again.

Priorities indeed. This didn't even make a blip in the MSM here. Better that the people don't know, because the emperor has no new clothes.
Seth:
Next time some stupid liberal starts pontificating about socialist medicine or how "sophisticated" Europe is, or how "nazi-like" our government is (or the President) I'd like to shove these photos up their collective a**es.
Naturally they'd fumble around and try to find an excuse for it. And that's because they haven't the slightest clue what it means to have free speech. As you pointed out, they try to muzzle opposition every chance they get. Look at Clinton wanting to bring the "Fairness Doctrine" to the airwaves. Big Brother and Newspeak all over again. This world is becoming Orwellian.

Long time no see! I had thought of that poem too, but I couldn't find it or remember it. Thanks for posting it!

No, I haven't seen this anywhere on our MSM, Atheling. I've noticed though that they are usually behind the internet by three or four days. Perhaps they'll pick up on it, but I'm not holding my breath!
Nor am I ever planning on eating with CAIR. I'd join you in eating dirt first... that way we don't have to eat alone!

Gayle, fascism is alive and well in Europe... again. This time they better not even LOOK over here for help, since America is too stupid in their eyes to do anything right.
As for CAIR, yes, dirt is preferred!
