Nu-Clear. I like it, too. I LIKE it a lot.
I haven’t listened to DSC 758, yet (lack of broadband at home). I wish he’d compress a lo-fi version like PJM Political does. I did download 754 last night, the one in which he advertised your time-shifted session. That was pretty cool, as was him letting the world know of it.
And I know what you mean about “clear.” But including as a “contaminant” CO2 with Hg, NOx and SOx I think is… I don’t know… politically charged? Of course this IS your space. Being politically charged is your prerogative, but I rarely see it in your 'casts and posts.
Thank you for letting me comment in YOUR space. Often it is hard to comment in text without accidentally conveying offense. I hope I don’t offend you with this next paragraph:
Obviously you wouldn’t want the air “clear” of CO2. You can call CO2 whatever you want, but would you also call water vapor a “contaminant?”
By the way, I’m listening this very moment to hour two of Moneytalk 5/17, and Bob Brinker is again putting fossil fuels and nuclear in perspective. I’m half-way through Cravens’ book, at a point where she is discussing small modular reactors.

Reese:
I am never offended by anyone else's thoughts and comments.
While I agree that CO2 is a natural part of our atmosphere, and that there are many sources that will never be removed, I also understand the science that says that the production of CO2 from burning stuff is causing the overall concentration in the atmosphere to increase.
I think that is overall a bad thing. Quite selfishly I also think that concern about CO2 is helping my cause of getting people to take a much closer look at atomic fission technology.
We have a solution to so many of our problems at hand. I will take almost any opportunity given me to expound on why I think that is true. One of the problems that I have had for more than 15 years is simply getting some people to pay attention. That difficulty is going away, partially with the unwitting help of many people who are essentially sworn enemies of atomic fission.
That is kind of poetic, don't you think?

I have a question, for Rod or anyone else who may answer it, about the DSC.
I want to check out the podcast - but the website seems like it could be a little easier to navigate.
I can see the links for the streaming audio, but I'd like to just simply download the episode as a MP3 file which I can copy onto a portable player.
Is there a link to do so on the DSC page?

Luke:
Good question. I also could not find a "download here" or something similar.
I did a little searching around and found an alternate site that also hosts the show at http://curry.podshow.com
If you go to a selected episode on this site, there is a line that says Direct link to the show. The word "link" is a clickable link and connects to an MP3 file. If you right click and "save file as" your browser should download just that MP3.

Rod,
Oh good, no offense. Phew!
It is poetic indeed. I appreciate that the CO2 concern brings attention to nuclear power. So I totally agree with your rightly using every opportunity to discuss its benefits. I can tell you that you've had impact with at least one person with whom I work. I've shared some of your information with her and she's come around. She even plans to buy Gwyneth Cravens' book for her even more phobic daughter. (Cravens and Rip Anderson will be at our workplace on Tuesday for a symposium.)
Nevertheless, I find it an "ends justify the means" argument, i.e. I think the merits of nu-clear power stand on their own, and that it's silly in those lights to burn methane, coal and especially food the way we do.
But you get those opportunities. I'm so conflicted!
Here we have you calling CO2 a "contaminant" and at the other end Steven Milloy (junkscience.com) calling it "aerial fertilization." You both have points.
Yours,
P.S. I really enjoyed the convo with the folks in South Africa.

"Shielded power" is an interesting bit, not of rebranding, but of ... well, of spin, but honest spin.
Yes, all nuclear power reactors are shielded, but does everyone know that? It's amazing what people don't know. I once heard of someone thinking airliners were made of aluminum because it was lighter than air.
Perhaps the logo could include a blue-shining dog and man standing outside the shield, to represent the fact that they irradiate each other more than what's inside the shield irradiates either of them, and a bright red stylized core inside.
Why yes, I don't work on Madison Ave. Not sure how you guessed.
With megawatt-years in the red thing, one is of course shielded from other things besides its rays.

Thanks for the excerpt, Rod.
Luke, yes the links for downloading are as Rod says, key being that at least in my browser, the word "link" is not the usual special color.
I don't know what to say about Adam Curry, this being Rod's space. Adam Curry is rich on the detritus of the USA's disposable income (MTV, ca 1984). Yet he's got a lot of problems with our system of politics. Hey, don't we all?
Curry's got at the top of the link provided this pic of GWB in a Photoshopped or otherwise altered flight suit with imitation patches of oil company logos, and holding a helmet with a bumper sticker "awol," and a forced thought bubble, "I'm so badass." Ha Ha! Humorous!
Blech. I guess I've had it with Curry. Sad, I kind of liked his show, especially the "BS" song the other day.

Reese:
Just for clarity - I do not always like each part of the DSC. Adam is sometimes a bit "out there" and stretches to be controversial. He wants commentary and interaction. He seems to be getting it and also to be providing a kind of entertainment that is not easy to find. As discussed above, I think that talking about Nu-Clear power is important enough to overlook some flaws. Besides, the DSC makes me laugh or nod my head more often than it makes me sad or causes me to shake my head in disagreement.
Also, though Adam is an entertainer, he has worked very hard to become a good businessman and he has been quite a visionary. His wealth has not come from just being a VJ, he and his current partner, Ron Bloom made a very tidy sum with an Internet marketing company that they sold in 1998 or 1999 - good timing that can be viewed as luck or understanding of the marketplace.
Mevio is a company with a couple hundred employees spread through offices in at least three countries; before Curry and Bloom got together for a second act about 3 years ago, it did not exist. I have to admire that as well.
My powers of persuasion and ability to recognize opportunity are far less developed, at least judging from my current situation.

You're right, sir. I'll try to take the whole of DSC. Especially since he's at least conversing with you. Perhaps he should take the Cravens journey.
Sorry about the timing thing. Someone someday is going to make a lot of money with your engine or its equivalent. Inevitable. Hope it's you.

It's good... but it's a bit corny, and I have seen it used before, many years ago, as a satirical comment opposed to nuclear power.
