I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

Sulzberger Jr. has transformed his once great newspaper into a cesspool of libel.

GravatarI apologise to all for tangetial thread hijacking but it's time to flood the e-mails of Tauzin's cohorts. Tauzin claims that his committee won't take up the FCC rule change. Please help keep our media only quasi-skanky.

GravatarSorry. Here's the address

GravatarThis plays right into a thought I read a while ago, i really wish i could find the link.

Something to the effect of - Saddam believed he had WMD's, and so we did too. But perhaps he was lied to by his own profiteering weapons manufacturers, learning to well the tricks of the american 'advisers' (think Rummy shaking hands with saddam)

'of course the weapons are ready for deployment Saddam, you've provided ample monies for their development and upkeep Saddam'.

'we have just paid off the british agent as ordered Saddam, yes, that is my new range rover, I am glad you like it'

On April 25, the Monitor said it had been given documents discovered in the Baghdad house of Qusai Hussein, one of Saddam Hussein's two sons, that showed Saddam's government authorized six payments to Labor lawmaker George Galloway totaling more than $10 million, between July 1992 and last January.

"the star wars satellites and missile defense batteries will stop all incoming missiles, assuring american security, Mr Reagan."

GravatarNothing pisses off the Moronic Brownshirt Fuck more than being ignored.

Remember it.

GravatarActually Joe Lelyved is a really nice guy. Whitewater is his blind spot, no question about it. Maybe he's not very good about admitting error, plus the Whitewater partisans have thrown up so many layers of obfuscation and justifications that its hard to wipe away all the bullshit and see the truth

Gravatarwell, we might forgive if he took the blinders off and REPORTED ON THE BUSH CRIMES>

GravatarNo sympathy for Lelyveld. He knew the minute Beverly Basset Shafer contacted him that he had printed a lie. And he just kept right on going.

And Lelyveld libeled Wan Ho Lee. And one of the anonymous sources for that story was Robert Hanson, a Russian spy.

And Lelyveld printed all those allegations of campaign finance misconduct against the Clinton 1996 campaign. And the anonymous souces for those stories turn out to have been Communist Chinese spys.

Lelyveld let communist agents pervert the NY Times into an insturment of disinformation and neither he nor Sulzberger admit it or are sorry for the extreme harm they have done to our country.

GravatarI agree with 56k. No mercy for Lelyveld. He's going to make fine food for ducks.

GravatarI do need to break in here. Duck is one of my favorite foods, and the thught of all that nice meat being contaminated with the flesh of certain unsavory characters really upsets me.

GravatarI'm going to throw in my agreement with the "no sympathy for lelyveld" camp as well. If you click through Josh's link, you can read Sidney eviscerating lelyveld's coverage, and then you can read lelyveld's pathetic attempts to change the subject and not respond, all the while insulting sid and praising the despicable jeff gerth.

his new tenure at the times can't possibly be short enough.

P.S. no sympathy for jonathan yardley, either! just wanted to throw that in to the "morally obtuse" among us.

GravatarWell, Atrios - far be it from me to come between Gary and those he wants to feed to the ducks, but perhaps some of the least savory could go to the Canada Geese, thus saving you from accidentally eating something toxic.

GravatarLelyveld's excellent reporting from South Africa makes his subsequent rotten performance as an editor, and his smug complacence in the face of one published demonstration after another of the grievous mistakes his reporters made in reporting on the Clinton administration all the more unforgiveable. He didn't forget what good reporting is; apparently he decided that once he printed anything, by definition, it became good reporting.

Howard, couldn't agree more; Jonathan Yardley has always been a worthless shit.

GravatarMy new thing is that everyone should print out Gene Lyons' two recent articles about Lelyveld and the NYT and send them to the NYT. Or fax them. Or at least e-mail them. I think it would send a message....

Gosh, I feel really proud that I already got my licks into Yardley this week. I'm at the vanguard of a fad!

Gravatar56K exposes what really is the "REAL" story if any enterprising journalist at the NYT was willing to put down the weekly RNC fax and do their own journalism for a change.

To what extent did agents of foreign countries (i.e. spies) infiltrate news coverage and drive political events in this country. And if it is that easy to create crazy media hysteria, how come the democrats cannot get their own network of spies to do the same for them?

Okay, that last part really isn't a part of the assignment. This may be a little ignorant of facts, but why were the Russian's and Chinese so interested in potentially creating scandal around Clinton? Did they want to bring Bush into the White House? Bush claims Putin is a soul mate and we haven't heard a thing about China since after the spy plane was returned. Is there a connection here that could be investigated?

Gravatar"My new thing is that everyone should print out Gene Lyons' two recent articles about Lelyveld and the NYT and send them to the NYT. Or fax them. Or at least e-mail them. I think it would send a message...."

Maybe we should print them out and mail them to the fund managers for Fidelity Blue Chip Growth and Vanguard 500 Index (largest investors in NYT stock) along with a note that media organizations that lie to their readers are unlikely to be honest with investors.

GravatarNo entirely OT.

Here's a review of Alterman's What Liberal Media, from FindLaw:

Proof Through Repetition and the "Liberal Bias" of the U.S. Media, by Neil H. Buchanan.

GravatarAtrios, I do understand your concerns about duck flesh ... I've a fondness myself. But, I do have a solution, however inelegant it may seem.

Limit the use of the duck-pit quackers to those Elmer-Fuddsian denizens of Frei Republik.

Duck Season!
Rabbit Season!
Duck Season!
Rabbit Season!
Rabbit Season!
Duck Season! Hurry up & shoot ...

GravatarAfter reading Lelyveld's dismissive review of Blumenthal's book in the NY Review of Books, my opinion of the Times is starting to erode. Note also the satirical cartoon on the back page of today's June 22 Sunday Book Review section. I guess Sidney really stung them.
