Speaking of which, the Telegraph is reporting that Ralph "Messiah Complex" Nader has made his decision: He's gonna run again in '04. I've posted on it at www.arationalanimal.blogspot.com (permalinks permabloggered, as usual; scroll down to the "Oh, for . . . ." headline.

Dean comes across as the more prescient of the two. Who was Clinton up against in NH in '92? Wasn't he a small rural state Governor? Wasn't he the fiscal conservative in THAT race?
Given Dean's swell in Iowa - and that he is also leading, or tied with Kerry in National polls, it seems he is the one to beat in NH this Fall/Winter. Dean's case that regardless of your feeling on the war - it was short sighted (implying, even a little craven,) to have backed Bush SO far in advance, given what we are learning every day - seems to be the winning argument to me.
See what Stewart said about Kerry to Moyers? Yawn. "It's my turn," was a losing argument/strategy for Dole against a popular, incumbent President in '96 - I hope Dems don't follow THAT lead. Ugghh.

Kemp = SKULL AND BONES - backed by the elite.
Dean = SORRY! NOT A 'BONESMAN' = ignored or dissed by the elite, and the elite-controlled media.
Guess who becomes the front runner?
John Kerry's particularly sensitive about his secret membership in Yale's exclusive and powerful SKULL AND BONES society for the scions of the Eastern Establishment. See the report at http://www.survivalistskills.com/kemp.htm

I'm a yellow dog Democrat. Whoever can beat Bush is the one for me.

And the one to beat aWol will be the 2004 democratic nominee.
I agree that the candidates need to stand together and speak in a variety of ways against BushCo.
However it would be good if the Dems vet each other's hidden pasts "off stage" as it were, so that there would be no October/November surprises from the rethuglican dirty tricks society.

Great headline, Lilith. I'll check it out.
Hmm, the rare spectacle of two Dean supporters trashing a rival Democratic candidate. Who'd a thunk it?

Thanks, John.
And, yeah, I know what you mean - and the freepers will be only too happy to help it along. I hope people continue to do what they did with Drudge's dirt the other day, and debunk it right out of the box.

Lambert,
Thanks for saying it, keep on saying it, can't be said too often.
John, Lilith, yes yes yes. I'd like to see the candidates vet what their points of attacks against Bush will be; I'd like to see each of them behave like the leader of the opposition, and coordinate what they're doing with the DNC and Dem office-holders. We'll never be able to simplify our message to the bullet points of Repub propoganda, and we shouldn't. But surely it can be just a bit less all over the place.
This is one of the reasons I think we lost one of our best possibiliies when Gore dropped out so early. I've made similar comments here before, so I hasten to add that when I speak of Gore, I mean the Gore I saw in 2002, not the candidate of 2001. Gore was stacking out positions for themselves that were the most progressive I've heard from a Democrat in years, not since Clinton in 92. He was relaxed, funny, himself. And one thing he has going for him that no single other Dem has, American's don't have to strain to imagine him being President. And this time around, it would be a lot harder for the gop and our supine media to discredit Gore in the way they did in 2000, without looking like they were being unserious and un-post-9/11.

Gore understands our health care systems is imploding.
And Dean's views on guns, that it is a state's rights issue, that is like saying acid rain is a states rights issue.
I think we should draft Gore. If he is drafted it is a stronger statement from the rank and file. And now Gore's contention that prosperity was on the line in 2000 has a special resonance. And if the media tries a "Gore lies and exagerates" again it will blow up in their sorry face.

It would be kind of tough for them to run with "lies and exaggerates", wouldn't it? Nice thought.

You know those sort-of-a-debate things you see on CSPAN sometimes where the Democratic contenders (Dean, Kerry, Graham, Kucinich, Moseley-Braun(1) et al.) get together to present their cases? The question I really want them to answer is: "What are you going to do for the nominee if it's not you?" I so want these people to have each other's back.
(1) And with all due respect to the mister--Carol honey, would you just pick a last name?

Most of the Democratic candidates have supported policies I find completely unacceptable - the war in Iraq, stuffing more and more people in jail for nonviolent drug offenses, corporate welfare - and I'm damned if I'm going to pretend those things are okay out of some kind of duty to the party.
I have a feeling that we're going to see calls for "partisan unity" more and more as the Democratic party establishment prepares to destroy the Dean campaign.

while i do blame Nadar for this fuckin mess, I blame Bill Bradley even more. WHY did he even stick his pious bland head into the primaries in the first place??? It only gave the reptilicans more fodder.
and just keep your eyes on the prize this time. GET BUSH OUT OF THE WH!

Reagan's 11th commandment was: "Thou shalt not speak ill of another Republican." It worked pretty well, didn't it?
Gerald Ford would tell you otherwise. Just one of the many fables the Reaganauts have been able to float.
But the sentiment is correct. Kerry must win and take office. Any Democrat who distracts from that is no Democrat at all. Our country's honor is at stake.
