Here's a question that's a bit off topic. Say the night before the election Davis checks the polls and figures he's gonna be recalled. What would happen if he decided to resign? Would Bustamante become governor and the recall election would be nullified?

This must mean that the Repug wire is ringing off the hook--has it down that Arnie is falling in polls and things look desperate for Repugs--But then Arnie DOES keep saying stupid things.
I would just keep bring up Arnies meeting with his good friend "Kenny Boy" and show people how many small businesses went OUT of business because of the cost of energy (specially delivery service types-- they did go out business had show how tripled cost in energy was hard for on small businesses during all those rolling blackouts couple with continue high gasoline bills. All while Bush and GOP were saying NO price caps topped with reports of corporate looting from some of those energy companies.
"Don't vote for Republican because these people made it possible for energy companies to take Californians to the cleaners."

Could Davis have resigned after the recall election was certified and then declared his candidacy for governor on the recall slate of replacements?

This is so transparently the result of Republican party pressure, it's laughable. I would love to have heard Simon's attempted denial of that in his announcement. Here's a guy who just started running attack ads against Arnold, and now he's gone? If I were a Simon supporter, I'd be pissed, and the man's still on the ballot too.

I would show case Arnies denseness.
Someone should ask him questions like "Who is buried in Grants tomb?" Arnie is bound to slip-up, as big, dumb and stupid as he is.

I'm sorry to be off-topic, but Newsweek is reporting their new poll in next week's issue and it confirms the earlier Zogby poll from Thursday. Newsweek has Bush down to 53. That is right in line with Zogby's number of 52 that was much derided by the White House. Guess there is a real trend here...
I thought Grant's tomb was empty?

What's come over rhe California Republicans? Surely, they cannot square their "family values" principles with a vote for Arnold. The man's a notorious harasser of women, a serial adulterer and, to top it off, a devotee of cunnilingus.
Have they lost their minds? What will they tell their children?

I'm from the South so I know many wingnuts - not that I'm proud of that or anything. Their overall opinion of Arnold is that he's too liberal but that his type of conservatism will play out better in CA. These are people who listen to Rush regularly and have nothing but praise for W.

Paging Mr. Perenchio, you money is needed back in the Davis campaign.
Too bad Davis isn't a more popular guy.
Here is a prediction, Davis loses to his Lt. Gov while the Lt. Gov loses to an actor.

Wolfie opened his show Friday with the usual grating bombast, proclaiming ``Today we'll mee the new frontrunner in the California recall race!'' with pictures of a crowd in Huntington Beach waiting for Arnult to come and arouse them.
What do you think Wolfie will do when the polls show Cruz Bustamante leading the big stiff? It already happened on Monday, and it will happen again.

Bill's father William was one of the founders of the neo-conservative revolution, as one of the funders of the Heritage Foundation. He made his pile on Wall Street and wanted future generations to celebrate his success. He was not allowed to see the future, which is perhaps a kind thing, and had not an inkling that Henry V was succeeded by his son Henry VI.

Ahnold loses five points everytime he opens his mouth.
And he loses five more points every time he doesn't.
Davis will hold on by a bare minimum, when the brownshirts will suddenly decide those punchcard ballots that were ruled A-OK earlier this week are suddenly grounds for - wait for it - overturning the will of the people!
It won't be the first time...

Don't miss this great line from the Davis camp:
"We're still focused on defeating question one on the ballot," said Gabriel Sanchez, spokesman for Davis' campaign committee. "Question two has become a sideshow with one less clown."
Also note that because Simon's dropping out so late in the game, his name remains on the ballot. It'll be amusing to see how many idiot wingnuts go ahead and vote for him anyway.

Paging Mr. Flynt:
Please use your bucks in an effective way.
The Arnold campaign is ready-made: Arnold killing cops, Arnold smoking pot, Arnold smashing a woman's head into a toilet, Arnold naked, Arnold groping a British interviewer...
The footage is in the can. It just needs some air time. Democracy needs protection.
Please, Mr. Flynt, you can make the difference today.
Davis and Bustamante need to team up and campaign together. There are hints that this is being worked on. I think the No on recall, Yes on Bustamante campaign is a winner. Repeat, Repeat, Repeat the phrase. I believe the end result of all of this will be a stronger and more unified California Democratic Party.

As the sole major Democrat running to replace Davis ? should the incumbent be ousted Oct. 7 ? Bustamante enjoys the support of 35% of likely voters, the poll found.
Schwarzenegger received 22% support, followed by three fellow Republicans: state Sen. Tom McClintock of Thousand Oaks with 12%, businessman Peter V. Ueberroth with 7% and Bill Simon Jr. ? the GOP's 2002 gubernatorial nominee ? with 6%.

Nah, Flint doesn't need to go overboard smearing Arnold. We don't want it to drive his numbers too low. The key is to split the Rethuglican vote. Remember, the same shitty rules that could steal the state for them could foil their attempts to steal it. If the recall goes through, but 20% vote Arnold, 20% Simon, 20% McClintock and 30% Bustamante (the other 10% go to random goons), then Bustamante is the next governor even though in this hypothetical scenario he was beaten 2:1 by Rethuglicans. For once, the Dems aren't lined up in a circular firing squad. Party discipline might help them out of a jam. Bustamante broke ranks, but I think it's probably a good thing to have one Democrat on the ballot as a fall-back. The last thing you want is Davis to get recalled 48:52 and have some low-life sweep into office with 15% of the vote on the second half of the ballot.
