GravatarMJS - If ever this was Kids In The Hall scenario, this is definitely it.

GravatarDidn't the Democrats just block the nomination of a Hispanic judge, though? See, they're just as racist.

(Stupid Comment Paid for by Republicans for Equivocation and Demagoguery)

GravatarNote to Maryland Dems:

Ask every member of the MHRC to join the Democrats. Today.

GravatarHasta la vista, Republicanos!
Caca a la ca vesa!

GravatarThe Republican party in MD crawled out from under a rock in the last election and won the governorship thanks in part to Kathleen Kennedy Townsend who was recently nominated for the "worst campaign ever run" lifetime achievement award (I think she lost to Al Gore on the final ballot).

Ehrlich and his team of dunderheads are merely keeping the seat warm for Balitmore mayor Democrat Martin O'Malley.

GravatarDid someone say O'Malley?

Kane is trying to stifle free speech, said Cary Lamari, president of the Montgomery County Civic Federation, over which Ribas used to preside.

...

"Is Jorge outspoken? Damn right he is," he said. "But it's easy to attack Jorge Ribas because he's Jorge Ribas and not fair-haired and Irish. This clearly reflects badly on the Republican Party."

GravatarThe Maryland Republican Prty immediately afterwards voted by an 18-2 margin to shoot themselves in the foot with a small-caliber rifle.

Gravataris this not classic?
In the can dish/cannot take mold that is the Republicans. Endless big piles shoveled out, a single tea cup back and whammo. Disinvited out of the non existent tent.

If the Hispanic members are wise they will at least go I if not Democratic.

GravatarRepublicans love minorities (except when they start getting uppity).

Gravatar"It also voted to create a new organization to reach out to Hispanic voters."

you cannot make stuff like this up.

We should forward this to the Daily Show.

GravatarI don't think the Republicans have anything to worry about. Maryland is planning to buy Diebold touch screen voting.

Gravatarwhat a 'grande' tent party.

GravatarDems still control the MD legislature quite handily.

the race for the Dem Gov nom in 2006 is gonna be a big-time War, btw, between O'Malley & Doug Duncan, the ultra-connected Supervisor of Montgomery County (DC 'burbs=$$) Ehrlich has won the Statehouse just in time for major budget crunches, & so far has made a total mess of his plan to have slot machines fix the problem.

Gravatarriiiiiight. Party of inclusiveness. Riiiiiiiight.

GravatarSoory, this is off topic, but if I don't write this somewhere, I'm just going to bust.

Larry King had Tucker Carlson on tonight. I was really kind of half watching it, but at one point, Tucker said something--I'm not sure what it was--but there was something about the inflection in his voice that reminded me of someone else. Ann Coulter.

I stared at the TV. Have you ever noticed that Tucker and Ann have exactly the same nose? And exactly the same little furrow in their eyebrows? I pulled up some pictures, and compared them closely. The similarities are amazing. I wish I knew how to photoshop, I'm really curious to see what Tucker would look like with long, blonde hair and thick makeup.

You know, I'll bet those two are brother and sister.

If you get a chance, take a look at Larry King tonight.

GravatarI think they better create some new Hispanic voters for their new organization to reach out to. Ones that will show proper gratitude for being allowed inside "THE TENT", and not start trying to act like equals...

GravatarEl sector mas fanatico!

GravatarFor the Republican Party, everything. For those not of the Republican Party, nothing.

I think the "big tent" is turning into one of those little clown cars...

Gravatar"It also voted to create a new organization to reach out to Hispanic voters."

... and what is the African American Congressional Republic advisory committee that has 2(?) black folks and a bunch of unelected white guys? Same shit at the state level... lovely!

GravatarOT: more heat on Blair

http://observer.guardian.co.uk/ p...1041796,00.html

GravatarWhat's the controversy here? The GOP is reaching out to minority groups and wants them inside the Big Tent. Just as long as they don't start, you know, standing up for their interests, or anything.

Gravatarpixie: coulter's voice is deeper.

GravatarNext thing you know, Burton will be trying to give Indiana back to England.

GravatarMichael (in DC) -- Not sure how informed you are about regional politics when you call Duncan the County "Supervisor." There is no such local office in Maryland -- it's called county executive, and has been in Montgomery County since about 1970 (I've lived here since 1963).

That is the expected matchup, Duncan vs. O'Malley, but the expectation in the WaPo that it's likely to be a even match is typical WaPo mindlessness. While Duncan is in his third term, he's far from universally popular even in his home county, as he is entirely in the pocket of big developers while making county government far more bureaucratic and unresponsive. A very large minority of county Dems hate his guts, and with his heavy-handed manner outside of the county, it's hard to see where his statewide primary constituency is going to come from. His only real strength out of the county is in getting his campaigns bankrolled by developers, and coming from Baltimore City, O'Malley will have a lot more credibility in PG County than Duncan. Add in the anti-Duncan Dems in Montgomery County and, fortunately, it's hard to see Duncan winning the primary unless O'Malley does something really dumb.

Gravatar"Don't you Ever, EVER cross the gov again, you hear?"

GravatarNote that I said nothing about the direct subject of this post. That's because Ehrlich only won for the reason given by Barry M. above, and he is almost certainly politically dead meat in 2006. As evidence of Ehrlich's consummate political skill, he has been repeatedly proposing or endorsing policies which trash the Chesapeake Bay, which is as close to a near-consensus (except for the Purdue family) sacred cause as there is in Maryland. Almost as much as Cal Ripken, and way more than the O's, which are not popular in the DC burbs, thanks to greedy jerk Peter Angelos, Dem contributor though he is, blocking a DC baseball team.

GravatarWonder if it's going to be called the Maryland Hispanics Who Know Their Place? Oh, and hey, Gov. Ehrlich: I hear Miguel Estrada's available.

GravatarPixie --
Have Tucker and Ann ever . . . you know, been seen in the same place at the same time?

Unfortunately, I suppose they probably have. Nice thought, though.

GravatarIt's the little conundrum of GOP-minority relations. "We think the reason Blacks and Hispanics mostly don't vote for us isn't that we're racist--it's that they're stupid."

Gravatarunless O'Malley does something really dumb.

Freaking O'Malleys. Send an O'Malley back to Brooklyn--that'll show 'em.

Still way too early to forgive---

GravatarSteady Eddie: (a Murray reference btw?)

Sorry, I spaced on the title--supervisors were the town execs on LI. I lived several years in Takoma Park. I don't know much about O'Malley, but I wouldn't underestimate Duncan, hated though he is--he's got lots of $$ & some powerful folks behind him. He was defeated on the Silver Spring Mega-mall, though, and has been held at bay so far on his ICC (outer beltway--read: sprawl) & Purple line initiatives...so maybe there's hope.

anyhoo, Ehrlich has picked a lousy time to become governor, and is showing no signs of handling it well. I agree he _should_ be easy pickin's in '06.

Amen on Angelos. he's currently keeping TWO cities from having a major-league team (counting Baltimore)...

Folks at large: if you see MD go red in '04, then you'll KNOW the vote's been rigged.

GravatarIt also voted to create a new organization to reach out to Hispanic voters.

"The government has lost confidence in the people and therefore has decided to appoint a new one." -- Berthold Brecht (IIRC)

GravatarIt is not only elephants who don't forget - so will Hispanics, at election time.

GravatarThey had to go. MHRC? What kind of message was that supposed to send us? Scroom.

And by the way. The new organization's name? The Good Little Maryland Republican Hispanics. None of this HRC sh*t.

(I love Good Little Hispanics. All those kids ... what an inspiration they are. Especially the girl kids.)

Phil Giordano (R)

GravatarO'Malley is accused of not doing enough in Baltimore by some, but is fairly popular otherwise. Attractive, well-spoken, and is the front-man for an Irish rock band that still performs from time to time.

GravatarFrom this morning's Baltimore Sun (hope I can do the html tags)

Md. GOP votes to sever ties with affiliated Hispanic Caucus

GravatarMuchas palabras.... um ....

Gravatar"If they are approved, the caucus will not be able to use the elephant as a symbol or use the word ``Republican'' in its title, Kane said."

Um, the Republican party has really trademarked "republican" and the elephant symbol?

Oh, my....

GravatarMaryland is next on the list to become majority-minority, for what it's worth.

GravatarA disturbing number of Democrats voted for Ehrlich in the last election. I knew a few who said they couldn't stand Townsend so they were voting for Ehrlich. Will Republicans ever be so generous to vote for the other party because they don't like their person?

Maryland is a Democrat state. This should never have happened.

GravatarVery funny and true!

The Repubs actually think they can attract Hispanic Americans with the message of honesty, hard work, dedication to family, personal sacrifice and self-reliance.

Hilarious!

The Rightwingers obviously don't know anything at all about how to win over minority voters.
