This is a first for me... it's certainly not true where I live. I had to go to three bookstores to find a copy of Paul Krugman's book -- it was the only copy there. Each store had several dozen copies of Bill O'Reilly's book prominently displayed at the front of the store, though. Fair & Balanced book sales!

ehh, I was in Borders and it was the other way around. Made me turn around and decide to take my business elsewhere.

Yea, today in Oak Park, about as far away as possible from Winger country, Borders was listing O'Slimey next to Lying Liars int he best selling list.
I said, "but it's not a best seller!" They said it was a Borders best seller. Dreck.

My local Costco just started carrying Franken's book. Of course, this is several weeks after I bought it, but whatever.
They've had the Coulter book since day one, though.

I just bought Franken's book at Target. 30% off as a NYT's Bestseller. It was displayed well, no big displays of any books- except that Potter thing.
Let me say, Franken tickles me- umm, in the literary sense. Very good book. His chapters on Clinton should be read allowed on Rush's show when he has to go to rehab.

Ah VI, now you've verified that you're the VI I know from chowhound. Glad to see you're a flaming lefty too.
Franken's book was sharing a display stand with an Ann Coulter(geist) book. My partner said in a loud voice "Why do they put fiction right next to the Al Franken book? Shouldn't this lady's book be in the Horror section?"

When I'm at my local Borders, I usually pick up a nice, tall coffee at the cafe. By the time I've reached the bestsellers table, I have just enough left to accidentally spill all over Ann's stack.
Oops! Oh gosh, I'm so embarrased. Sorry, so sorry.

Hey ya know, it's THEIR fault for serving coffee in a bookstore. Accidents happen.

Our frigging Barnes and Noble last time I was there had Ann "Thrax" Coulter's book displayed three separate places that I noticed. Franken's book was much less conspicuous.

Got "Bush's Brain" from the library today. (Can't afford all the books I'd like to buy - gee, that tax cut didn't seem to pan out for us as much as advertised.) It's scaring the bejeebers out of me. I mean, I knew Karl Rove was evil, just by looking at him. It's written all over his face. But I never knew all the despicable, hateful details. It's really quite painful reading this. The stakes for this country are so high...

And in our local King Soopers last weekend (owned by Kroger of Fox News Muzak fame) the eye level books were all conservative (e.g. Treason) whereas the number 1 NYTimes nonfiction bestseller at that moment (i.e. Lies) was on the very bottom shelf left corner where it was hard to see. Being a generous kind of guy I decided to donate two minutes of my time to rearranging their stock.

Tower Records down in Austin Texas always had an excellent collection of counterculture writing. Hard core conservative stuff almost never appeared on their shelves. Too bad this great music chain is not more common.

It's not fair. There should be equal representation for all points of view, AND MINE. 50/50 I say.

Go to the Barnes and Borders outlet near you, and look. Rightwing screeds outnumber any opposition n-to-1.
It also may be a measure of the way that the rightwing propaganda industry is in high gear taking over the print medium. They've got TV and radio, why not go for the last bastion of liberal thought. Do it through volume, it works.
