I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

GravatarIrrational dislike for commerce with darkies is not racism! You hear me? Not! Race! Ism! Now if you'll excuse me I have to pick up my robe from the cleaners before my 'Club Meeting.'

GravatarBwah HA HAH haha hAH AH ahah Hahahah!

GravatarNot Racism?! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Yes, pancho-breath, it is. It's deeply ingrained in every racial group, to be fair, that people often love those with whom they identify the most. But to sit there and say that one should be adverse to interracial couples is racism.

Love is blind. Gee, I wonder what would happen if more people lived up to that ideal?

GravatarIts not the color of their skin he objects to. It's the content of the affirmative action program that got him the clerk's job. I'm just guessing here.

GravatarNot racism.... Hello?

GravatarLowlife: read it again. It's precisely the opposite. The clerk's job is fine; it's being the sister-in-law that revolts him.
If that ain't racism, I'm Britney Spears.

Gravatar[T]he media now force interracial images into the public mind . . .

There's something to this--I think it did help people become more comfortable about dealing with people who didn't look like themselves when they saw respectful and friendly interactions like that (and non-whites who didn't act like comic-book characters) on the tube or in the movies.

GravatarSo what IS racism...?

GravatarIt all comes down to sex. Instantly. They don't like darkies and it has exactly to do with sex.

It is sad.

Sadder still is that these loons have real power.

GravatarIt all comes down to sex. Instantly.

Almost everything in life has to do with sex.

GravatarThis is akin to how it was(still is?) in the South where the white girl is beaten/raped by a white man or tries seducing a black man but is rebuffed where she accuses the black man of rape. And who is believed? It's this type of thinking by Stacy McCain that was part and parcel of the white mob mentality.

GravatarOh yeah, I'm all for negroes serving us (e.g., bank clerks at a bank). See, I'm not a racist--I want them to succeed. Just stay away from my neighborhood, and we'll get along great. And it's just unnatural to mix colored and white blood, so I'm not being racist when I say that. Did you hear me? It's *unnatural*. Who am I to go against nature? Same goes for those queers.

GravatarThe white person who does not mind transacting business with a black bank clerk may yet be averse to accepting the clerk as his sister-in-law, and THIS IS NOT RACISM, no matter what Madison Avenue, Hollywood and Washington tell us.

A racist white man's fantasy. Why else would he think a black woman would want to marry his brother? It's sort of like straight men, no matter how repulsive worrying that some gay man is going to hit on them. Don't worry, mr. racist your brother's probably as much of a prize as you.

GravatarAnd you might not be as "white" as you think you are.

Gravatar"White", "Black", etc. are all just social constructs. Genetic variation is larger within racial categories than between racial categories.

Oooooooh, but them coloreds are just so icky!!!

GravatarEverytime I see a black bank clerk, I just want to give them a high five for not robbing the place instead.

GravatarNTodd,

I think you're on to something there, about the "mixing of the blood"...

I guess in Mr. "non-racist" Stacy McCain's mind, better to bleed to death (or take a transfusion of a white person's blood infected with Hepatitis) than be transfused with some of that "darkie" blood...

No, he's definitely not a racist...No Sir...

GravatarSorry, last post should have read:

Everytime I see a black bank clerk, I just want to give them a high five for not robbing the place instead.

Love, Jennifer Graham

GravatarLove is blind.

If we were all blind, would racism exist?

Gravatar I think you're on to something there, about the "mixing of the blood"...

Actually, I was joking about miscegenation, but the more literal interpretation fits just as well. But racist theory is such a target-rich environment, there's just so little sport in it. Maybe we should just limit ourselves to making fun of hypocritical blowhards on the Right...

GravatarI agree, NTodd...it's like shooting ducks in a barrel.

I guess I'm curious about Mr. McCain's quote. How recent it is, i mean. Not that in any age such sentiments are understandable, but at least in the last 10 years or so, I would hope that even the most provincial, inbred corners of this country would have gotten a little more enlightened..well, maybe not.

And second thought, is anyone else waiting on the edge of her/his seat to read Mr. McCain's scholarly review of the book about MLK, Jr? I'm sure it will be "fair and balanced". Yeah.

GravatarLove is blind.

If we were all blind, would racism exist?

If we were all blind it would be like a tennis match between Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder...

Endless luv

f

GravatarIt's all about the fear that 'white' is going to become a minority. If to much 'mixin' goes on the original recipe might get lost. It's the greatest fear of the white supremacists.

Gravataris anyone else waiting on the edge of her/his seat to read Mr. McCain's scholarly review of the book about MLK, Jr? I'm sure it will be "fair and balanced".

Oh yeah, I'm sure it will wonder why it didn't talk more about MLK's affairs, his being a comsymp, how MLK was single-handedly responsible for losing the war in Vietnam, etc. So what if the book's about his "I Have a Dream" speech? Why is the author focusing on that one speech instead of showing King for what he really was: a hater of America. Things were just fine until the negras got all uppity, asking for special rights and such.

GravatarIf Arabs were Black, would we be able to bomb them at will? Or would we have to wait until the Pentagon's Genome Bomb was ready? Would precious time, and precious bodily fluids, be wasted?

If Arabs were White, would they be able to report on their own experience in Bx's Genocide-in-a-Jar policy? We want to attack them first, 'First Strike,' but they are White, so we have to check their income first, go to the next level. White, Rich...leave along. White, Poor...blow 'em away at will.

See, that's not racism. It's racism + classism, and since there are two rubrics, it is no longer racism. And by the time you factor in religion and miscegeny and past oil deals where Bx only got a measly 75%...see, it's less and less racism. It's friggin' enlightenment!

GravatarIf what Paul says makes sense to me, should I be worried about my sanity?

GravatarBecause there are cultural differences, it's natural to display a preference for individuals of the same culture, even if this means sticking to members of the same race. This does not make one racist (which in practice I believe is more about equality in education, work, etc).

If it did, 80% of all hispanics (which I'm) are racist as in general, they prefer to have their daughters not marry "morenos" (American blacks) or "blanquitos" (American whites).

I imagine this is just as common in the America black community.

GravatarThere's a difference between one's own personal preference, and the desire that one's own family limit their relationships to a certain ethnic group or religion.

This is an old rehash of the question asked by Southerners during the Civil Rights movement:

"Would you want your sister to marry one?"

I think that part of living and working in America is to recognize that people have the freedom to associate with other Americans, no matter what their ethnic background or religion is.

I have a friend who is retired and works occasionally as a Spanish translator. His wife is Mexican, and he's as Anglo-looking as they come.

He told me that he found out that there were 57 different words for racial mixtures in Mexico. Sounds like they're very concerned with catagorizing people by race, in a "Heinz 57" kind of way.

The real question to pose to Hispanics is: "Would you want your sister to marry a (Mexican, PR, Dominican, Chilean, etc.) who comes from your native country, but is (black, Indian, etc.)?

The friend I mentioned above has a friend he corresponds with who is 'creole', that is, of European heritage whose parents immigrated to Mexico. This friend claims that "native" Mexicans discriminate against creoles, and that's why he left Mexico sometime ago.

"It's a small world, after all................"

GravatarMaybe it's past time actually to *let* the south secede. Free immigration north and west for whoever wants, needless to say (political amnesty, natch). Then Dubya and the PNAC-gang could rule from Mississippi.

GravatarLearning about how other countries look at race is really enlightening. Race is purely a social construct.

And you might not be as "white" as you think you are.

Word to this, EPT. I personally know of a family who were, shall we say, regressive on the suject of race, who were shocked as hell after inheriting a very old family bible. Turns out one of their ancestors had more progressive views on race mixing. They destroyed the evidence. Tore the page out and burned it, I kid you not.

This type of thing was common enough that I remember a crude saying from my childhood dealing with the topic: "There's a nigger in the woodpile."

Plenty of white racists know perfectly damn well that they themselves have mixed ancestry. It doesn't stop them. Probably, like homophobes who are really closet cases, it spurs them on harder.

GravatarI'd rather go see the new movie 'Kill Bill' for Vivica A. Fox than for Uma Thurmond.

MYOB'
.

GravatarAmen, MYOB.

However, am I allowed to go see it, for.... you know...

both of em?

Gravatar"White", "Black", etc. are all just social constructs. Genetic variation is larger within racial categories than between racial categories.
Shlomo

I know, Shlomo, it's just that I can't resist pulling their chains.

Yes, Peanut, but they saw the page before they destroyed it. They're NEVER going to forget it.

GravatarDuring the first Iraq war, the college radio station where I live (Vancouver,Canada) opted to air Dr King's recorded speeches in place of the expected war coverage as a protest against it.
One of the most impressive things I remember hearing Dr King say - if memory serves correctly - was that we better get the racism thing worked out as soon as possible because we have much bigger problems to tackle as human beings ahead of us.

GravatarPie -- What you said makes me think of Insane Clown Posse lyrics (how appropriate -- a bicoloured rap-rock band fronted by a Canadian expat!):

Fuck skin colour
Everybody's blue!
Then what would all
These bigots do?
Instead of your tone,
They'd hate your size,
Which is why I must poke out
All of their eyes.

As I'm fond of saying, there's ONE race -- the human race. Anyone who forgets that IS a bigot.

GravatarAs my father always said "I don't care the color of the man you girls decide to marry, just as long as he is a good person." My sister married twice and was beaten in both marriages. She is white - the xhusbands are white.

GravatarIf you want to be rid of folks like McCain, you only need to sprinkle them with salt. They just shrivel up and die.
