I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

GravatarLos Angeles is still west of the Mississippi. No W.

KFI is at www.kfi640.com

GravatarDo they have an internet feed? If so, I could listen while online doing other stuff.

Gravatarthere's no dubya before KFI out here. it's just KFI AM 640

Gravatarmy bad. i knew that. fixed

GravatarAren't all the "K" stations those 50K watters? I used to love KFI before they went to the dark side. Now I have KOA in Denver, covers most of Colorado, with 'nuttery. One night driving home in the mountains of Southern Colorado, I picked of KNX news radio out of LA. The every 8 minute traffic reports almost made me cry.

Gravatarscroll down the page and there's a vote on how our boy genius is doing.......voting is your democratic duty!

HOW CALL SIGNS ARE DESIGNATED

Since the early days of wireless telegraphy, starting with marine use, radio stations have had their own identification. Under international agreement, since 1927 the alphabet has been divided among nations for basic call sign use. The United States, for example, is assigned three letters--N,K, and W-- to serve as initial call letters for the exclusive use of its radio stations. It also shares the initial letter A with some other countries. The letter A is assigned to the Army and Air Force; N to the Navy and Coast Guard, and K and W to domestic stations, both government and non-government.

...

Broadcast stations in this country are assigned call signs beginning with K or W. Generally speaking, those beginning with K are assigned to stations West of the Mississippi River and in U.S. territories and possessions, while those beginning with W are assigned to broadcast stations East of the Mississippi River. During radio's infancy, most of the broadcast stations were in the East. As stations began operating, the Mississippi became the dividing line between K and W call signs. The few exceptions to existing call signs within this system were assigned before the allocation plan was adopted. Station KDKA, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is one example.

...

Atrios is once again engaging in typical east is westism! Would we expect anything less from a California ex-pat?

GravatarI used to listen more frequently to Ray Taliaferro on KGO out of San Francisco before the recent time change and Arizona was left behind when the rest of you fell back timewise.

He is not only "liberal" but hilariously so. If there were ever an antidote to Limbaugh/Hannity/etc. excess, it is Ray. To listen to him deal with the usual right wing moronic crap is a delight to these tired old ears.

He is on (and there is an internet feed) from 1AM to 5AM PST. He is preceded by 4 hours of a more sedate liberal, Bernie Ward.

For those of you who live in Red America, listening would be a relief from the hours of Savage, Laura, Reagan, Liddy, etc. etc. ad nauseum.

GravatarPhoenix radio sucks. Like most of Phoenix.... So I listen to Internet SF's NPR KQED.

But yeah, sometimes I listen to Disney's SF KGO 810am. But KGO is pretty rotten too. KGO makes me fear for Anshell's venture, as when the non-right-wing day is over, what comes on is mainly angry rants, Ray Taliaferro included.

Too much anger, not enough humor, and way too much berating of anyone that will call in. And way too many commercials.

I can listen to these guys from time to time and it is a break from what is on the airwaves, but there's no way anyone can listen to them day in and day out.

Gravataranother great talk show is
randi rhodes in florida..she is one same station after rush and beats his ratings all the time..

she is actually trying to get syndicated across country.

she is streamed every day live
at http://www.therandirhodesshow.com

GravatarActually what I meant was when the right-wing day is over....

It's a shame Disney owns them and that their mission statement is to sell commercials -- their location and license and power permits them to be heard from San Diego to Washington and I've heard them in Southeastern Arizona too. At night of course...

Gravatar"she is actually trying to get syndicated across country.

Beat me to it Smartone.

The woman is sharp as a tack and never has anything less than an encylopediac knowledge of current affairs and the issues.

If you need proof of her progressive goddess credentials, check out the Ollie North interview at

Check it out

GravatarRandi's the best. A true, compassionate, informed and funny liberal.

What a lot of people don't know - she's in line for part of that $1.8 million that the DNC is reportedly raising for Ed Schultz (even though Schultz insists all that money is being raised for him).

She gets invited to DC on a regular basis, and has built relationships with a good number of Congress-people. Her show on Wednesday featured four hours of interviews with everyone from Levin and Stabenow to Wexler and Lieberman.

GravatarIs that AM or PM? I can hear KFI in Washington after the sun goes down. I listened to it in Utah too when I lived there.

I use to love to listen to Phil Hendrie, but he went all Charles Johnson after 9/11.

I get KGO out of San Francisco too, but Bernie Ward is an embarrassment. "Lion of the Left" my ass.

GravatarWe can get KFI up here in the San Joaquin Valley, especially at night.

I wouldn't be surprised if the could be heard as far south at TJ and beyond.

Gravatari couldn't find wendell among the "Hosts" column ... where is he?

GravatarThanks for the link to Randi Rhodes. The Oliver North interview was wonderful.

Gravatarhe's on Sundays only? talk about "back of the bus" treatment.

GravatarIf he's on KFI, it's probably not for long. KFI is another Clear Channel piece-of-shit.

GravatarJohnny Wendell's actually been on KFI for a while. He was off a few weeks when they brought back Art Bell, but Johnny's ratings are so good, he's now been signed for a long-term slot.

GravatarI'll add in my support for Randi. Please check her show out online. It airs 3-7 pm EST weekdays. To me, she represents the ideal outspoken liberal talk show host. She's not just Rush with a leftwing point of view. Hher entire radio style (of addressing call-ins, of obtaining her news sources) is progressive. And she allows herself to have her own mind. For instance, when the Rush's drug addiction came out, she refused to revel in it, because she felt that being a true liberal means being sympathetic and understanding of other people's personal travails. This, even though Rush has blocked Randi from being able to syndicate her show via Clear Channel stations by threatening to pull his show. Another example, she says she cannot read Michael Moore books because the one time she did she felt he got too many facts wrong. Could you imagine Rush or Bill O'Reilly saying to their audience that they refuse to read Ann Coulter books?

Writes funny stuff as "Johnny Angel" for the LAWeekly, too.

I always forget to listen on Sunday night.
