Compared to many environmental groups, LCV is conservative.
Did you catch David Brooks today on John Kerry? Apparently Kerry truly is a stealth conservative in some ways -

hmpf. In a relative sense, perhaps... but LCV endorses Kerry and here's the statement on their home page:
As the campaign to unseat the worst anti-environment president in history heats up, LCV endorses Sen. John Kerry. His extraordinary lifetime LCV rating, record of accomplishment, and commitment to our issues makes him the clear choice for environmentalists.
Doesn't sound very conservative to me, unless not advocating monkeywrenching is your idea of 'conservative'. In any case I think you are cutting Whitfield waaaay too much slack...

Of course they do. Tools like Issa won't be satisfied until news channels refer to Georgie as "God's Chosen President."

FLASHBACK: Kerry in 2000 claimed it is a matter of character that Bush avoided duty oversees by joining the Texas Air National Guard. No documents have been found to show he reported for duty as ordered in Alabama in 1972... 'Those of us who were in the military wonder how it is that someone who is supposedly serving on active duty, having taken that oath, can miss a whole year of service without even explaining where it went,' said Kerry... FLASHBACK: KERRY ALLUDED TO BUSH AS DESERTER
Hoooo boy! I can't believe Drudge is this clueless that he doesn't know that keeping this issue alive is the last thing Rove wants right now. I wonder how it will be before Drudge get's the call from Bush HQ....

He's right? The words conserve do mean the same. But then again who knew the word 'gay' would change so much from one context to another?
"Would it be a terrible thing if conservatives believed that a conservation group was on their side?"
Huh? Is that the same as the "Healthy Forests Preservation Act"?

I saw that Drudge piece to which you are referring. I was thinking exactly the same thing. There is zero upside for Bush if this starts a fresh round of inquiry into his service during Vietnam. Although Drudge is playing games when he makes it sound like Kerry used the word "deserter". It's not in any of the direct quotes Drudge is using.

I read a rumor that Drudge isn't fond of Bush.
Hmm, that's new to me, but I'll buyt it. Still it would seem that he meant it as a smear against the current Democratic frontrunner Kerry (in the same vein as the Jenning's/Clark/Moore thing).
You got any references to that Drudge/Bush rumor?

timshel,
That is correct. I can not see any upside for Bush to have the AWOL thing brought up again.
In fact that is why I might give Jennings a pass if that was his real intent. He may really know that the only way to raise the issue with the current state of the media is to appear to be using it against a Democrat (but.. but... I was just playing the Bush-hater card, there wasn't any truth to that AWOL business was there?)

makes one wonder how something that happened 4 years ago can be considered urgent, developing news. I hope this really backfires on them and that this issue sticks. SOMETHING needs to stick to Bush. Broken SOTU promises, embarrassing verbal flubs, creepy Newspeak. Practically every week he does or says something that could be turned into a great political commercial.

LCV is actually a canned foodstuff advocacy group, you nitwits.
"Americas most trusted news source" or whatever the hell their catchphrase is. Christ, give me a break. They are no better than FOX. In fact probably worse considering that FOX at least wears their politics on their sleeve. I beginning to think that the entire cable news industry is nothing more than supermarket tabloids for people too stupid to read. What else could explain the fact that despite a war in Iraq, a contentious Democratic primary, an American economy that is hemorraging decent jobs, a president that is a doltish mouthpiece for special interests ... what else could explain why fucking Michael Jackson is the lead god damn story every freakin morning and gets twice the coverage of any other issue that actually is meaningful. Grrrrr.....!!! I gotta get some blood pressure medication pretty damn soon.

In a time of peace, I can understand the media not holding a candidate's feet to the fire on his service record. I dont say this to justify it, just that I can loosely understand it.
It's a different animal now that Bush has sent over 500 (and counting) American soldiers to their graves. It DEMANDS public scrutiny.

Canadian outsider looking in... it seems to me that there is enough verifiable evidence around to trash and trivialize Bush. There might be enough to support impeachment. But nothing sticks to him but pretzel fragments and Grecian 2000. Efforts so far to bring him to account have had the same effect as pissing upwind. What gives? Incidentally, apart from a small contingent of Freeper types, most Canadians would love to see the end of GeeDubya and his ilk.

FWIW--I have always thought Drudge to be more of a rumor-monger than a hard-core right wing partisan (although his politics do lean that way). He is a tool of the republicans to be sure, but I would bet that he would publish leaks from the democrats--if the story was juicy enough.

No it wouldn't be a terrible thing. So how come they rape the enviornment every single time they get in power? Becuase conservatives are Mammonists.
