Gravataruno! 2 in a row?

Sorry to tie up such space

GravatarAnd people wonder why gay teenagers are 3 times more likely to commit suicide than str8 teeneagers?

If I was his kid I would have thought more than once about sitting in the garage with the car radio on....

What a fucked up dad

GravatarSo this is what being awake at 5 in the morning gets me, more confusion about why Republicans are considered the party of "family values".

GravatarWhy do Republicans hate their children?

It's that 'family values' thing they have.

GravatarRepublican Family Values Syllogism:

A. I wanted a big, strapping, manly son; but I got this little limp-wristed shrinp instead.

B. God hates shrimp.

therefore

C. It's good that I hate my gay son!

Praise the Lord and skip the cocktail sauce.

GravatarLet's keep the focus on the sideshow known as GOP Family Values, coming soon to a venue near you. So, does the elder Knight have to hang his head in shame when he runs into some of the other hacks, one can only hope so. I don't know what is worse, is he keeping his son at arms length because he's an embarassment to his campaign, or does he genuinely feel disgust because of his son's activities, either way he's a loser.

GravatarThis is really sad. I heard the other day that 42% of homeless teens are gay.

Imagine if people like Knight and Cheney and Schafly finally decided to love their children.

Gravatarthey hate everything but money.

must be tough living in hell all the time.
at least they have heaven to look forward to, so they can let earth slide into chaos and violence and ugliness.

i finally figured out what to do with my beloved grandma's bible...it's coming apart, and isn't a special or valuable one, save that it was hers.

i'm going to burn that bible.

Gravatarpeggy noonan, dick cheney, and now this...

LOL !! ROTFL !!

it seems that the more you hate gays, the more likely your kids are to turn out gay...

Gravatarrex, your grandma probably didn't do with it what these freaks are doing. Save it as a reminder of the positive interweavings of faith, family, and good works.

GravatarSenator Knight is just trying to protect us all from the next inevitable step that the opponents of gay marriage always warn us about: people marrying their dogs. Even now there are secret "Santorum" socities attempting to teach their dogs to sign their names and say "I do".

GravatarHa Ha

GravatarHe was a fighter pilot? And gay? Wow. Why he can't get married to a guy. That's not in the script.

GravatarI'm assuming he actually flew, too, unlike someone we all know and love (to hate).

GravatarThis is so sad. How many children can ever be truly happy without the approval of their parents? Denying it is heartless and selfish.

steve_gilliard, nice to see you!

GravatarBurn granny's bible. If she's still around somewhere, she has surely figured out what a load of shit it is. She would probably approve.

GravatarProof positive that heterosexual families convert kids into homos. We should ban heterosexual marriages before we all turn queer.

GravatarAmusing, of course. "I hate that which I cannot stand having under my own roof, and therefore I will make it the law that it shall not be allowed to happen..."

The conservative impulse is always retromingent.

GravatarFighter Pilot? Sure it's ok to die for his country, but love....? This debate must be reframed about Love. This is not about sex, which is what has Repugs freaked out (as always). And who can argue that more Love in the world is bad? And all it does is bring out the oppositions hate, and they hate anything outside their own hall of mirrors!

GravatarActually, as someone who's pretty familiar with the Bible but doesn't worship it or any of its principal characters, there's a lot to learn 'for those with ears to hear.'

Substitute 'the religious establishment' for 'the pharisees and scribes' and 'gays and immigrants' for 'lepers and Samaritans' and the New Testament, so-called, would give Bible-believing fundies, so-called, a pretty good notion of what their allegedly beloved Jesus would suggest they do...

"But homosexuals are sinners and an abomination unto the Lord!" Maybe so... and that was exactly who the sort of folks Your Guy hung out with. And that was exactly what Pissed Off the Powerful Folks who had him executed. Seems Jesus didn't have that much use for the respectable, well-established and comfortable, by my reading...

Gravatar"Proof positive that heterosexual families convert kids into homos. We should ban heterosexual marriages before we all turn queer."
NTodd

As Dan Savage points out in a brilliant editorial at thestranger.com, gay people CAN marry - they just can't marry each other.

Go to a courthouse with a check and the state will be more than happy to marry a gay man and lesbian who don't love each other. The hypocrisy here is that the state doesn't give a shit if you love each other or if you plan to be married for 55 hours or 55 years. THAT is the "sanctity" of marriage wingnuts are trying to protect. Laughable...

Gravatarwhat was that post about peggy noonan? does she have a gay kid? i can't find anything.

GravatarTeard down the wall!

GravatarSorry, that's "tear"...

Gravatarrex,

I recommend you take a deep breath and page through your grandmother's bible for about 15 minutes.

She might have a message for you.

We need a bumpersticker: "I Love Jesus but I Hate Christians"

and I'm an atheist.

GravatarIf we want to cause confusion in the minds of those gullible christian conservative women, we could have a neutral grass roots organization put out and ad:
"If Republicans are so moral and beloved of God, why are so many of their children homosexuals? If God blesses those who carry out his will, why is he cursing them with homosexual children?
Vote Democrats in 04'! None of our kids are gay!!"

Sure it's a load of shit, but the GOP is full of so many morons they will actually begin to wonder, Hmmmmmmm.

MYOB'
.

Gravatarcheney_usa that is an excellent idea for a bumpersticker.
It even has the potential for a followup by saying that the Founding Fathers loved the message, not the man.
Which is 100% true according to the works of many of the founding fathers who were the actual architects of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

MYOB'
.

GravatarStep by step and one by one ...
****************

In case anyone doesn't know the update to the other repug 'family values' story, Melissa Ann Rowland's plight, this morning's SLC 'Deseret Morning News' says NOW president Kim Gandy is calling the case 'political' since Rowland is an unsympathetic figure and "if you allow a bad principle to be established ... it makes bad law and it endangers women's lives."

Here's the URL: http://www.desnews.com -- article name: Rowland case is called 'political'.

And just in case you were wondering, Utah is also on top of the 'decency in radio' issue. Marie Osmond is 'taking the shock out of jock' with a new family-friendly radio show.

That's about all the news worth printing from Utah this morning. (OH! There is an article about Eliz. Smart, but that's very standard here a year after her rescue. She's an obsession.)

GravatarPerhaps I spoke too soon -- there's an interesting editorial in the Deseret News (Salt Lake City, where they distributed thousands of condoms to the Olympic champs las year). There was a photographic display recently at a local community college "depicting LDS missionaries in homosexual encounters". It was vandalized this past week. The editorial calls the people who vandalized the exhibit 'cowardly'. But it says the photographer also was cowardly. They advise being more provocative and "depicting and mocking members of the Aryan Nation as they emerge from church" and said it would support that!

The DesNews is considered a conservative paper (and the Salt Lake Tribune more liberal).

Gravatarsince gayness is usually genetic, does this mean the reasoon rite wing assholes have gay children is cause THEY are latently gay?
who wants bet?

GravatarSen. Knight couldn't get his son "cured" of gayosity? I thought Senators had a fantastic health benefits package. Isn't defagiolising covered?
As I (an ancient old Moose) remember Gays were going to go out in the streets demanding state supported bathhouses, and forced bi-sexual experience for all schoolkids. That's what the Gay Agenda was supposed to be, as I remember the warnings.

Now it turns out they want to get married. Legally, monogamously, responsibly, married.

What a disapointment. Doesn't even give me a vicarious thrill.

GravatarThose loony gays not only want to get married, they want to serve in the military (Christ, they must all be republicans.)

GravatarI'd heard about this guy. Apparently, William Kinight's brother, David's uncle, was also gay and I think he may have died of AIDS. David said his father turned to gay bashing to further his career. Apparently getting votes are more important to him than the love and respect of his son.

At least David is happy and has dealt with his father well. Thankfully he didn't end up like Sandy Humes (to name one gay son of a homophobic conservative for whom it all got to be too much for him).

Gravatar"Hate" is an unfair description, at least for Pete Knight. "I love my son, but we continue to disagree on this issue," is what the elder Knight said in a statement. (http://www.gaywired.com/article.cfm?section=9& id=2342)

Fail to support / agree with? Sure. Be closed-minded, etc.? Maybe.

But "hate"? That's unfair.

GravatarRepublicans suck.

"it seems that the more you hate gays, the more likely your kids are to turn out gay..."

One reason people have anti-gay behavior is that homosexuality represents a part of themselves they do not like. So it's quite possible that the more virulent homophobes are themselves gay, and more likely to pass those genes on to their kids.

Gravatar"But "hate"? That's unfair."

No, hate isn't unfair. The elder Knight does not love his son. See, love and hate are not just emotions. They motivate behavior, and you can deduce the emotion the parent has for the child from the behavior of the parent.

When the parent tries hard to make laws that adversly effect their own kids life pass, thats hatred. When he will sit idly by and pass the agenda of those who would celebrate the violent murder of people like his son while leaving his son out to dry, thats hate. Thats what hate is. It's not possible to love someone and vote to take away their chance at happiness. It's just not. If you think that Pete Knights actions are consistant with him loving his son, you have a really fucked up idea of what love is. I'd hate to be your kid.

GravatarKnight senior is on a moronic brownshirt fuck crusade to eliminate homosexuals from public life. If that ain't hate, I don't know what is...

GravatarAs long as we continue to allow christians to set the mark, we will always be living with 'their sense of kingdom as it should be'. We allow the christians the soap box and now we should pull it out from beneath them.

Gays are an easy target. American men simply aren't ready to see two men together as a couple. Plain and simple.

GravatarI maintain that, if Matthew Shepard (God rest his soul!) had a .32 automatic pistol in his jeans, along with some condoms, he'd likely be alive today.

"Oh, but handguns are evil! They're only meant to KILL PEOPLE!" I hear the kneejerkers lament.

Yes, they are meant to kill. To kill those people who come to ROB, RAPE, ENSLAVE or MURDER.

As painful as it may be for those oh, so sensitive souls to hear, some people just plain NEED killing.

You know, you don't shoot a rabid dog or raccoon in order to punish it for being rabid, or to discourage other animals from contracting rabies. You shoot the poor thing as a public health measure.

As far as I'm concerned, gay bashers, nazis, KKK, are a threat to the public health. When they act to endanger the public health, shoot 'em down in the street, as you would a rabid dog or raccoon.

GravatarAtrios wrote: "Why do Republicans hate their children?"

I dunno. Why do Democrats hate their fetuses?

Gravatar"Why do Democrats hate their fetuses?"
agentalbert

Garsh, I dunno, why do Republicans love fetuses, enough to give them rights, but hate them and want to take away their rights once they become 35 year old gay people who want to get married?

Gravatarchris-
careful.. you sound like you're channelling coulter.

tomato observer and cheney_usa-
thanks for the advise. i'm proceeding carefully on that bible burning.
but i'm not re-reading deuteronomy.

agentalbert-
what sort of man would say a thing like that? sit back a moment and imagine all the scenarios that have led to abortion.

can't do it, can you? can't, and won't.

more proof that darwin was right.

GravatarI don't think it is a question of hate, it is a question of control. The patriarchal family structure, one that so called "family values" people favor, puts a man in control of all the females and offspring included in the preferably nuclear family. This man "earns" "MONEY" and this is used to maintain the "family" and to control the family with threats.

I am not sure that control and real love can coexist, because control implies that you always have to watch for the one who will escape your control, who must then be branded as "bad" so that you can keep control over the remaining controllees.

Power corrupts love.

Gravatarwe all should send the man a congratulatory note on his son's marriage

Gravatarwe all should send the man a congratulatory note on his son's marriage

GravatarIn lieu of flowers, send congratulatory emails to:

senator.knight@sen.ca.gov

Go!

GravatarBTw, does anyone know of a site where I can get a simple "congradulations to the parents on the event of your child's wedding" e-card?

Gravatar"Gays are an easy target. American men simply aren't ready to see two men together as a couple. Plain and simple."

Hatred of gay people is the only "fashionable" form of bigotry left.

GravatarJust Rex wrote: "agentalbert-

Hmm. The only situations that come to mind are rape and incest. You're right. What a wonderful world abortion is. I'll go listen to some Louis Armstrong now.

GravatarPeggy Noonan has a gay kid?

For some expose on these "family" groups, go to places like www.ngltf.org

GravatarI don't think it is a question of hate, it is a question of control.

While I don't question your broader point about patriarchal control, hate definitely plays a role in all this. Come on down to the MA State House on March 29, you'll see plenty of it. The "God Hates Fags" contingent was plenty active there this past Thursday (it was such fun walking past them to get into the building).

Gravatarok, i went there, and found nothing about noonan or anybody else. was that a typo in the previous post implying noonan has a gay kid?

Gravatarhate schmate. let's stop quibbling about words like that. just because they don't sit up at night plotting against gays, doesn't mean it isn't hate. if you've ever listened to a bunch of dittoheads get going about homos, blacks, or feminazis, it's pretty clear this IS about hate, even if their betters on TV know how to behave.

GravatarI, for one, just cannot fathom the thought processes of the elder Knight.

He just reeks of pathos, I can't help but feel sorry for him in a way even though he's inflicted so much pain on everyone, himself and his son included and many third persons.

I'm glad his son is determined to live his own life.

I folks could figure out what causes this degree of irrational loathing, I'd bet we could go a long way toward solving many of the problems that plague humanity.

GravatarI'm not for figuring out anyone else's family. Does ANYONE have the kind of family thats on TV commercials? You know, the one where they have a family reunion, everyone looks great, and they applaud someone for making everything "fun" all the time because she brought Jello?

GravatarThis story is just pathetic and heartbreaking. I hope the younger Knight has a long and happy marriage and never has to see his hateful, evil father ever again. I hope when karma catches up with evil dad that it's a long, slow, and painful experience.

GravatarYou can send Knight a big ol' mushy Hallmark e-card (the one with the roses) from their site to congratulate him on the marriage of his son.

GravatarBTw, does anyone know of a site where I can get a simple "congradulations to the parents on the event of your child's wedding" e-card? Maureen

Maureen, Love Poetry.com is really different, with lots of poetry -- classic, otherwise. I don't know if there is anything there or not for weddings.

GravatarQ: Why do Republicans hate their children?

A: Because they're evil bastards.

Damn, that was easy. Time to call it a day.
