They should thank God every day most American workers are still willing to play by the NLRB rules and participate only in legally certified unions, picket lines, etc.
Because if they try to monitor every worker on the job, every minute of their work day, there's not enough close circuit cameras in the world to protect company "assets" from a digruntled labor force.

Going on a traditional, NLRB-approved strike, any more, is just giving the boss an opportunity to do a lockout, hire scabs, and break the union. The bosses LOOK FORWARD to strikes these days.
But if you think about it, there's probably a thousand ways you can think of every day to raise costs, degrade efficiency, or embarass your employer, and otherwise flush his profits down the drain, with virtually no risk of getting caught.
And the only thing stopping you is the little boss inside your head.

For that matter, if a union DOES decide to go on a traditional strike, there are ways to even up the odds. There's not much point hiring scabs if the machinery goes on strike as well.
But what could W be afraid of? Maybe a confrontation at a rally a la the Vietnam vet who buttonholed Kerry recently? When was the last time W actually spent any time at all with an unvetted audience?

At first we thought that bringing Republican Guard and Taliban onto the re-election team would be too risky. This is far creepier than '68-'72. Nixon may have been paranoid and surrounded with ambitious, zealous and crooked goons, but he was still enough of a politician (and yes adhering to the American ideal) to still recognize when to bail. We do. That's because Nashville is roughly 500 mi. radius geocentric to 50% of the U.S. population. Maybe a geographer/social scientist can correct me, or whatever.

I read this and it reminded me of an article in the most recent Esquire about civilian contractors (legalized mercenaries) in Iraq. It is by Tucker "bow ties make me both edgy and cool" Carlson so it raises as many questions as it answers, but none the less it is very interesting.
They do investigation as well as paramilitary. My guess is they are checking out everyone John Kerry shakes hands with to determine if they can finde 6-degrees of separation between that person and a terrorist. Or something like that. Still sick and evil, but perhaps not as paranoid and satanic as one might expect from this bunch.

In print, he's OK. Can't remember how good a writer he is, but I recently dug out that debut issue of Talk with the Bush interview, where Bush mocked Karla Fay Tucker.

The current administration has consistently exceded my expectations.
I was born an raised in Nashville. The undercover cops are as thick as fleas there. Nashville is centrally oriented geographically and at an interstate crossroads. And driving is a sport there among the high testosterone crowd, only a few of which bother actually being professional racers.
The middle-of-the-road liberal tradition there personifed by Al Gore is vastly outnumbered by the hardcore fundamentalists: most of the Bibles in the USA are published there.
Nashville has always had a thriving counterculture. As a result, its always been the focus of the TBI, the FBI, and the DEA. Lots of drugs, lots of crazy rednecks trying to show how cool they can be. Lots of undercover cops looking to advance their careers.
I had a few brushes with them.
Even got questioned by the FBI a few times when I lived there.
If there is any place where private contractors might be used to observe, intimidate, or operate, it is right there.
Frankly, hamletta, I do not care if you make fun of my warnings. There are good people on these boards whom I respect that agree with me. There are also a lot of young people that need to know what's going on in this world.

Now that they've alienated the FBI perhaps they're having to have their dirty work done by outsiders instead of having the FBI do it for them on the taxpayers dime.
Its just the first salvo in the rich guys' attempts to defund the FBI. Why do they have to pay taxes for a national poluice organization that investigates interstate crimes that hurt ordinary people (and may investigate them for their Enron-type activities), when they could have their own police organization protecting only them and ignoring their crimes?
