GravatarThe Democrats are coming...

www.removebush.com

PLEASE SEE THIS:

http://www.thememoryhole.org/war...well-no- wmd.htm

Why aren't the Dems using it in ads?

Gravatarthird!

GravatarYes. I was just looking for his site today and couldn't find it. He needs to get on this right away. (But how to tell him without a web site?) Same problem for Inez Tannenbaum.

GravatarTo make up for my last inane post, Here's an address, courtesy of Kos:

Salazar for Senate
P.O. Box 600
Denver, Colorado 80201-0600

Kos is waiting for a website, as well.

Turkee for Ken.

GravatarWhile we await the candidate's web site (holy fuck! why don't you have a web site!) Colorado Luis gives some background.

GravatarBTW, how do you suppose this would read if Salazar was a rethug?

But political strategists say the numbers mean little this early because the race will tighten once Salazar's opponents launch campaign ads to increase their name recognition among Colorado voters

I'm guessing something like "Political strategists say the numbers indicate that Salazar will be very hard to catch."

But maybe not every newspaper is as rabidly pro-Bush as my hometown fishwrapper. Damn SCLM.

GravatarI fully expect the Presidential race to parallel 2000. (Short of Reagan dying in October... What a nice suprise!)

Congress, though... Shit. It would take an actuary to get a grip on the probabilities.

GravatarYeah, Reagan in October and Cheney during the summer.

GravatarOT: Powell told reporters at a press briefing that his testimony about Iraq possibly using mobile biological weapons labs "was presented to me ... as the best information and intelligence that we had" but "now it appears not to be the case that it was that solid."

http://tinyurl.com/3x4bv

Shorter Powell: Oops, my bad!

GravatarOT, but here is the synopsis from cbs.com of the main story on 60 Minutes tomorrow night:

(CBS) A government whistle-blower says the Bush administration covered up the reasons for a toxic coal slurry spill in Appalachia that ranks among the worst environmental disasters in U.S. history.

Jack Spadaro tells Correspondent Bob Simon that political appointees in the Department of Labor whitewashed a report that said an energy company that had contributed to the Republican Party was responsible for the 300-million gallon spill.

Simon's report will be broadcast on 60 Minutes, Sunday, April 4, at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

Spadaro was until recently the head of the National Mine Health and Safety Academy and played a key role in investigating the spill, which was 25 times the size of the Exxon Valdez disaster in Alaska.

"It polluted 100 miles of streams, killing everything in the streams, all the way to the Ohio River," says Spadaro of the October 2000 spill that affected West Virginia and Eastern Kentucky.

"The Bush administration came in and the scope of our investigation was considerably shortened. I had never seen something so corrupt and lawless in my entire career...interference with a federal investigation of the most serious environmental disaster in the history of the Eastern United States."

let's play another round of pin the tail on the republican!!

Gravatarot: Might John McCain switch parties???

GravatarBeing a Navy Pilot during Vietnam and seeing heavy combat, McCain making his quip about Bush looking like a fool with his carrier stunt would have meant a lot more to me if he had made it when it happened, as opposed to a year later.

That being said, McCain seems like a decent man, and so what's the surprise with him being disgusted by Bush? Completely natural.

Gravatardef,

Reagan dying just before the election or GOP convention has been my nightmare too!

GravatarPoor Colin was certainly sad
To find that his his info was bad.
W said, "Don't you figger,
That you are my nigger?
Now grin and pretend that you're glad."

Gravatar(@)(@)

word

GravatarReagan dying just before the election or GOP convention has been my nightmare too!

Rove will pull the feeding tube the moment Chimpy's numbers hit 40% approve.

Gravatarhaving thought about it some more, maybe the wingers will take it that the rapture is coming when Reagan dies, so they won't bother to vote!

GravatarBoy-oh-Boy,

I hope McCain jumps parties. Then we can replace him in the Senate.

Everyone knows, Bush speaks Spanish, Kerry speaks French....lotta god that'll do him in the Border States!

GravatarNo Web site for Salazar, but here is MeetUp page:

http://ksalazarforsenate.meetup.com/

GravatarColorado is, at the moment, a festering wasted pit.

We'd do better to saw it out of the planet and launch it into space.

GravatarKerry/McCain would be a powerful hammer with which to beat the living shit out of the lunatic right that controls the GOP and the congress.

We can only dream ...

But McCain does care about America, the real America, not the faux idol 'Amerikkka' the wingnut morons worship.

Plus, payback is hell, George.

He just might go for it. If he does, what a joyous summer and fall it will be, praise the Lord!

GravatarEnvironment? got the goods.

If Salazar doesn't need to spend the money for a web page, don't expect him to. His candidacy isn't a convenience for us, we are in a war.

Atrios and Kos can raise money without it. Let him keep his eye on the ball.

GravatarPresumably, it'll be http://www.kensalazar2004.com since that was registered by the "Jax Group" right after Mr. Salazar announced. The Jax Group is a marketing and communications company involved in Colorado politics.

GravatarColorado is, at the moment, a festering wasted pit. We'd do better to saw it out of the planet and launch it into space.

Easy, fella.

The state legislature is not nearly as rightwing as it once was, and last I heard, 45 soldiers from Fort Carson, CO, have been killed in the boy king's Iraq adventure.

Plus, I have loved ones who live in that square-on-the-map Rocky Mountain state.

GravatarThe symbolism of a republican (former) and a dem on the same ticket is something that would resonate with a lot of 'mericans i bet. They're sick of all the partisan crap. They could really provide a home even for the many moderate republicans out there who do not go along with the lunatic right that owns bush.

Bush would be crushed in a humuliating landslide if they played it right and were lucky on external events. Would could be sweeter than seeing Bush delt a humiliating and decisive defeat. Nothing I can possibly think of, beyond certain sexual fantasies that is (none of which involve bush...er, not that bush).

If that happens, I will get drunk for the first time in 8 years and go out in the streets to sing and dance and celebrate!

Kerry/McCain 2004
For a Stronger America

.

GravatarWhat...damnit

GravatarColorado is, at the moment, a festering wasted pit. We'd do better to saw it out of the planet and launch it into space.

I live in Utah. Need I say more?

GravatarKerry/McCain would be a powerful hammer with which to beat the living shit out of the lunatic right that controls the GOP and the congress.

And it could drive the final stake through the heart of the Democratic Party too.

It would mean the Democratic Party were saying that it didn't have a single leader in its own party worthy of the vice preznitcy.

GravatarBut McCain would be a democrat.

And they would have to pitch the 'unity' theme. Bringing Americans together after 4 divisive years of bush/gop warfare.

I do not see democrats fleeing the democratic party because McCain was seen as a good choice to drive the nail in the coffin of GWB presidency. Are you saying they would then go with the right winger GOP. There are some serious problems with that logic.

Gravatara dead RR ain't enough for george.

GravatarWe are uniters, not dividers.

(No, really!)

GravatarKerry/McCain '04

NSA: Wes Clark
Attorney General: John Edwards

Bush/Cheney: under indictment.

GravatarKerry/McCain isn't going to happen. And I say this as someone who would love for it to go down that way. Here's the deal: If McCain jumps party by himself he goes from being a Republican with a huge amount of leverage to a Democrat/Independent with almost no leverage at all, regardless of whether or not Kerry/McCain wins. Further, if by some catastrophe Kerry/McCain loses, McCain would be persona non grata -- almost a laughing stock -- with everyone in politics. Far too much of a risk.

Personally, I've had daydreams about McCain leaving the Republicans, forming a new Centrist party (which would immediately hash out some sort of coalition with the Democrats), taking enough moderate Republicans with him to break Republican control of the House and Senate, and then becoming Kerry's VP. This isn't going to happen either, though, just because, well, even if everything else fell into place it'd be a major historic realignment and the hacks running the Democratic Party right now fear change more than anything.

GravatarColorado is, at the moment, a festering wasted pit.

I agree with monica_nyc. The pendulum is swinging.

The northeast-of-Denver concentration of whackos - Musgrave, Allard, Schaffer - is being counteracted by some who are seeing the damage wrought by idiots like Tancredo and the infamous Taxpayers Bill of Rights (TABOR), which forbids surpluses but doesn't protect against deficits (and CO's deficits have been horrid). Lew Entz recently voted with the Democrats on a key issue, and there are pragmatic people like Gigi Dennis (at USDA right now, formerly a state Senator) who aren't trying to create a theocracy.

And no, McCain isn't switching parties. He's trying to save his before it splits in half and becomes an also-ran for a generation.

Our job should be to help him lead the fundies to the Constitution Party.

Gravatarforgot to add:

Ken Salazar's brother Jack is running for Scott McInnis' House seat. So +1 for Dems in the House and the Senate in all likelihood.

NM Gov Bill Richardson (who, from everything I hear, really isn't going to accept the VP slot) is helping both raise money, and Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) is helping Ken as well.

I can't see Kerry winning Colorado, but I can see him forcing Bush to spend a lot of money there.

GravatarI highly recommend at a bare minimum stopping Schaffer from getting the Senate seat. That guy is in a class with Musgrave (author of FMA). In fact, he held her US Rep seat before her.

GravatarThe President of Remax is the odds-on favorite to be the Republican candidate for U-S Senate in Colorado.

For the life of me, I can't remember his name. But, obviously, he's loaded.

GravatarI'm not sure how good a 13-point difference is when he has somewhat high name recognition and his opponent doesn't. Schafer will have many millions and the attack ads are going to start. Will the Hispanic vote help Salazar? People have said that this vote never seems to turn out strongly for Dems. It seems like CO is still a very dangerous place...isn't the legislature only moderate because the Repugs only have one seat over the Dems? If they broaden their lead, they will go crazy. I heard somewhere that they are also going to be doing their best to get more social conservatives (bigots) into seats. Given all the money Dobson and all the others have, you know they will.

Here's Inez Tenenbaum's (SC Senate candidate...I have way too many relatives in SC and am trying to get them to vote for her) website:

http://www.inez2004.com/portal/

What's wrong at Kos? I haven't been able to bring up the site since last night. I hope the server hasn't been attacked. He's really taken a lot of unfair shit over the past few days from jackboots and fascists like InstaPunt. Andrew Sullivan staying far away from this makes me realize that he really has stopped sipping some of the Kool-Aid.

GravatarSlothrop, he's mentioned in the article. His name is Ligner or Liniger or something like that. He's filthy rich. Not a lot of name recognition but he can change that. Marilyn Munster (Musgrave) is really ticked that the party thugs haven't rallied around Shafer yet. Hopefully there will be some party infighting based on this issue.

GravatarHerseth's lead is still pretty good in this latest poll of South Dakota. And she gets 30% support from Republicans, wow.

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamihe...ics/ 8330057.htm

GravatarReminds me:

Know how the GOP/Media's been listing Minnesota as 'in play' this year (since Nader took a chunk out of Gore's hide here in 2000)?

Well, after nearly two months of constant Bush ads (ever since Dean dropped out), countered by a few Kerry and MoveOn and other 527 ads, we find out that Kerry has a twelve-point lead over Bush, 50%-38%. Nader only get 2%.

Of course, this won't stop the Bush ads from coming -- Bush has money to waste. But the money wasted here is money that Bush can't spend elsewhere.

GravatarBut McCain would be a democrat.

Well, he'd be a DINO. His positions on most policies are to the right of even the righward-leaning Democrats. He's not a moderate Republican now.

I do not see democrats fleeing the democratic party because McCain was seen as a good choice to drive the nail in the coffin of GWB presidency. Are you saying they would then go with the right winger GOP. There are some serious problems with that logic.

I think a Kerry/McCain ticket would suppress voter turnout among some constituencies in the 2004 elections and drive some voters -- y'know, the leftish folk among Democratic voters -- out of the party.

It would be a unity ticket for centrists and rightists.

I guess it would be a real test for ABB voters.

Do folk really mean ANYBODY?

GravatarPhoenix, I'm not sure about that poll. Another firm from a few weeks ago had Kerry with only a 4%. That also doesn't take into account the huge push the GOP and the bigot groups are doing, physically and verbally threatening Democrats in the legislature to get them to put an anti-gay amendment on the ballot. If that gets on the ballot we may easily lose Minnesota.

If you want to fight it, go here:

Gravatarhttp://www.mikemiles4senate.com/new/

Please do not forget that Campbell was elected as a "democrat" before he turned tail. Salazar is quite similar in that regard.

Does that mean that he stands a good chance of winning the seat? Yes.

Does it mean that he'd be a good choice for real progressive leadership? Um, no, not really.

Mike Miles (barely mentioned in the article--RMN is pretty much a right-wing rag) is an AWESOME candidate with the resume and positions that the "democratic" wing of the Democratic party can get excited about.

Oh, and he DOES have Web site. Please check him out before you chuck our little square patch of goodness out into space.
