I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

Flast!

Whatever Kos Does,

It'll credit to Republicans.

You can only violate common decency so much before America turns a complete Bastard out on his ear,.

Oh Well, Maybe the Repugs will re-win the Wh and more seats in both the House and Senate.

Wait 'till you see what happens to State Governorships and Legilatures.

The Dimmywits will regret their ways!

Oiks! And me here in south-central Pee Ay with only my wits and conscience to vote with!

You can only violate common decency so much before America turns a complete Bastard out on his ear

Uhh..was this supposed to refer to Kos or Bush?

GravatarI can sympathize. When I moved from Tacoma, where I was quite active in local politics, to western Massachusetts last fall…. Ugh.

I went from a state with a vibrant and active party to a locale with Democratic “clubs” where the membership rolls read the same as they did in 1964. The local races are all incestuous and the leadership is entrenched. The only good thing is that this “machine” is all about Kerry this year.

God, I miss good local politics!

Gravatar"On Specter! On Toomey!"
Cried jolly St. Nick
"a little ass lubricant should do the trick!"

GravatarAnon... you're cracking me up... stop it!

(I wonder what happened to Dr. Limerick)

GravatarI hate Bush, but what Kos did was way over the line, and the Dems should be the first to call him on it.

GravatarI live in Philly and think it's terrific. But truly the best thing about it is telling people from other cities that Atrios lives here.

I imagine that in two hundred years, there will be a little metal frame "Atrios house" much like the site of Ben Franklin's old home.

GravatarIf you wanna follow local races, stock up on Pepto-Bismol.

My former mayor was recently indicted for bribery and assorted corruption.

One of my Senators paid $60 million (was it?) for his seat. The other is there because the firestorm over his predecessor's fund raising shenanigans was so great that the voters (D's!) were actually not going to send him back in Washington, so he had to take himself out of the race with just a few weeks to go before election day.

Happy democracy day, all! At least this one will be a little shorter than most.

Gravataror a metal plaque: "on this site stood the server which hosted the Second American Revolution"

Gravatarugh my town sucks. They vote straight Repub every election. It's sickening. Most of them aren't even Reoublicans, they just don't know how to vote any other way.

Gravatar"But truly the best thing about it is telling people from other cities that Atrios lives here."

Or does he? It could all be part of his master anonymity plan. I mean, seriously, even people in Philly don't root for Philly teams.

Gravatardon't tell me. my mixed-race family is miserable living in class-wracked philadelphia. Atrios is the only Cool Factor in this town.

GravatarSheesh. I don't wanna talk about my town... highest city official "may have" given racists bullets and encouraged shooting of innocent folks who weren't same color as he during race riots back in my youth...

Gravatardarn.
ok, VOTE FEINGOLD!

GravatarI hate Bush, but what Kos did was way over the line, and the Dems should be the first to call him on it.

You're a troll. You were saying the exact same shit here yesterday when you were posting as "Richard." You posting this same crap everywhere.

Get the hell out of here, troll.

GravatarAtrios:

I am invovled with a group of local activists who are trying to build an organization to run and elect progressive democrats. We've written a pretty good proposal and I'd love to get your thoughts about it sometime.

Anyway, one of the principal organizers of this project is Stan Shapiro, who was the staff attoreny for Philadelphia city council for 25 years. A staunch progressive (and DSA member), he knows local politics better than anyone I know. I'd be happy to set up a coffee/phone call if you want to learn about the dynamics of the local party.

all the best,
Ben Waxman

GravatarOT: Jeff Lurie gave Bush $2000. I may have watched my last iggles game.

Watched the Specter/Toomey debate tonite. Our best chance is if wingnut toomey wins. He was pitching a flag burning amendment.

GravatarReally? fuck!!!! i love the eagles!!!! Goddamn. I wonder who donavan gave to?

GravatarOT: Lurie gets 500 mill in public money to build new stadium, so iggles won't move. Then, he deprives iggles fans of at least one super bowl or more by trying to win cheap and failing to address weak positions. Then, he turns around with his new publicly funded stadium, and gives 2K to shrub. I'm sure his wife gave another 2K. Meanwhile, Philadelphia schools continue to be starved of state funds, making them a war zone. WTF is wrong with this picture? sorry for rambling on...

GravatarYou're a troll. You were saying the exact same shit here yesterday when you were posting as "Richard." You posting this same crap everywhere.

Get the hell out of here, troll.
____

You're paranoid. I have never posted here before.

You must be a troll if you won't face up to outrageous posts by people on the left. It's called integrity, dude.

You are as bad as the Repos.

Gravataras long as woot's not here

GravatarI hate Bush, but what Kos did was way over the line, and the Dems should be the first to call him on it.

Why?

GravatarKos was right.

GravatarWhy?
____

Because otherwise we are as bad as Jerry Falwell selling "Clinton is a murderer" videos, or Ann Coulter spewing her lies about Dems not being patriotic.

IMO, there should be a floor for what people think is acceptable conduct in political discourse, and part of maintaining that floor is to speak out against conduct that goes beyond the acceptable bounds of decency.

GravatarRich, people step beyond the bounds of decency all the time. It happens. Sometimes they get slapped by the public zeitgeist, and sometimes they don't. Kos came back to explain where his remark came from. He's not in office. He's not speaking for anybody else. It's a freekin' blog fer cry-yie. If you don't like what he has to say, don't visit. I, personally stay away from Townhall, where my delicate sensibilities are offended routinely, and from Instapundit who bores the crap out of me.

GravatarIt's a function of age. After a certain point (and a certain number of moves) you just can't be bothered to retool again. And as you say, keeping up with the national scene is a full-time job in itself.

GravatarEls,

I have stopped stopped visiting Kos, and I appreciate your point, but I still believe it's important that those types of remarks are repudiated.

If, as some have postulated, blogs have the potential to be a critical instrument for organization and fund raising by the left, it puts an added responsibility on those that write them, as well as those that frequent them, to insist on some bounds of propriety.

I only visit Townhall when I am re-directed there to check out a column by the right that bares the lie on some of the extreme rhetoric on their side. For example, Bruce Bartlett criticism of Bush's prescription drug sham, or the myth that tax cuts generate revenue.

GravatarThe local scene here in Athens isn't all that interesting. Every now and again, the Athens-Clarke County Commission does something truly boneheaded like impose higher fees for outdoor seating at Downtown restaurants (from $90 a year to a thousand) with varying degrees of success. For the most part, though, they're in the pockets of the local developers and Chamber Of Commerce, even though the latter issued a "scathing" report card that showed most commissioners "failing" but neglected to give any criteria for a passing grade. The local citizenery is so apathetic - even the politically active who raise hell over Nader/Bush/whoever - they don't realize it until it's too late.

I've been thinking of running for the commissioner's seat (my cat, John Barrow, is leaving to run for state represenative), mainly for shits and giggles, but partly to give the freak minority something of a voice. More and more, the developers and people in the outlying areas want to stomp out anything "weird" in Downtown and turn it to a year-round tailgate party for UGA.

State politics, though, is a hoot. If they're not removing the word "evolution" from high school textbooks (so's as to not confuse the kids) they're yowling about the 10 Commandments or passing laws to ban genital piercing for women (though it's still legal for men, go figure). Plus, they've passed a bill that's putting gay marriage on the November ballot for public referendum, which is nothing more than a naked attempt to get Bible-thumpers and wingers out to the polls.

Then again, there's our governor, Sonny Perdue, who's pissed off everyone who got him in office - the Klan flaggers and the teachers - and has managed to completely destroy any ethical credibility he had in three short years. Plus...we got Zell Miller running around loose raising money for Bush and campaigning against a reality show based on "The Beverly Hillbillies". Georgia isn't quite as interesting as my home state of Mississippi, but it ain't boring either.

Gravatar"I am invovled with a group of local activists who are trying to build an organization to run and elect progressive democrats. We've written a pretty good proposal and I'd love to get your thoughts about it sometime.

Hey, Ben! What are you doing spending your Saturday night here at Eschaton? Get out there and organize those Progressives down there, or I'll have you dragged back up home to Portland to work on my campaign.

(Be well - your mom and I are power-walking Back Cove every other day _ I won't tell her you're slacking off :-D).

Gravatar"I hate Bush, but what Kos did was way over the line, and the Dems should be the first to call him on it."

Well, Kos has revealed himself to be...human. A person with feelings related to some bad experiences when he was younger. Some of us get set up Bloggers on a high pedastal and forget that they are human. I don't agree with what he said but I'm not going to flog him over this. He's catching a lot of crap right now. I'll be interested to see how his views evolve after thinking about this for a while.

I'm certainly not going to abandon his blog because of one mistake.

GravatarWell, having gone to the above Ben Waxman's site, I now realize there are two activist Ben Waxmans in the Philly area. My apologies to Ben Waxman here in comments, as I mistook you for the other.

GravatarDaily Kos down?

Is it?

Gravataranyone who is trying to follow the budget insanity in Virginia needs to check out Commonwealth Commonsense

http://commonwealthcommonsense.t...se.typepad.com/

GravatarKos has been brutally eliminated from the web.

Like the Chinese communists, our dictator in DC can destroy our community very easily.

Gravatar" I still believe it's important that those types of remarks are repudiated."

Ah, the voice of the belle - forgive me, but this bizarre prissiness that seems to be sweeping in from the right just makes me giggle. It's like listening to the Church Lady assume the role of hall monitor.

The tone always makes me want to check my permanent record, just to see what the snotty remarks column holds.

Kos isnt reachable - no indicators or referrals coming up.

GravatarKos maintenance took longer than expected

Apparently the reason that Kos is down is that they were going to be shifting DNS servers last night and apparently something didn't go as smoothly as expected. From what I know of DNS and depending on whether they dropped their DNS expire times in preparation for the move, it could be anywhere from a few more minutes to a day or so before it's back - I haven't heard anything about that.

GravatarHi there ladies;

This appears to be one of those dull,
slow moving, local politics sections.
So let me tell you a little about myself....

GravatarAh, the voice of the belle - forgive me, but this bizarre prissiness that seems to be sweeping in from the right just makes me giggle. It's like listening to the Church Lady assume the role of hall monitor.

___

You're right. Screw accountability. Anything goes.

Drink some more Kool-Aid, dude. If you can't take constructive criticism from your own side, than your are the prissy one. Irony is a bitch, huh?

GravatarAtrios and Ben Waxman-
One state race you guys should focus on is Sen. Kukovich. He's been great on the hate-crimes bill, CHIP, workers' rights and seniors' issues. He'd also make a great person to challenge Santorum in '06 (instead of Hafer), but he has to win this time around first. Kukovich is going to launch a blog soon, too - Atrios, you'll get an e-mail from the campaign when he does.

-M

Gravatar don't all regular guys take five chefs when they go see the queen of England?
