1) Enron co-conspirator (met with Ken Lay, Milken, during energy-manipulations crisis).
2) LIAR. Ran on two HUGE lies, that Pete Wilson's Car Tax was Gray Davis' fault (Pete Wilson, former gov'nor, and Frankinegger's campaign chief). R refusal to sign budget caused 'crisis,' reduced by Davis/Legislature to $8 B, even though Frankinegger continued to use the outdated $30+ B number.
3) Conspirator. Recall election was a fraud, and the result was uncertifiable (how much did Steve Shelley get, or why didn't he get anything for putting our constitution in the toilet?). No one knows how many people voted for which replacement candidate, though that was moot.
4) Unqualified, racist, and sex criminal. Supported by Thug Party, by 'kill them all' and 'women are for f*cking' imbeciles. Famous for being a jerk to women, and worse, and well-known for hatred of Mexicans, Latinos, Blacks, and Asians. Drug user, endearing in a celebrity, ridiculous in an R candidate with pompous moral positions. Illegal alien. Neo-Nazi leanings well known in SoCal and Austria. Tax fraud: paid no taxes on muscle competitions and protein powder ads while on tourist visa (illegal to work). Racist policies (DL withholding, hospitalization blocking). Pal of several warcriminals.
5) Bushliarco co-conspirator, junior grade. Plenty happy to align himself with the Coup.
6) Hummer and Whitesnake promoter. Vomit mixed with blood. Overconsumer. Braggart. Bad role model.

After getting to know him better in the late 70s I came to wonder if Karol Wojtyla wasn't a CIA asset. He's given me a very few reasons to think maybe he isn't but a lot of those he appointed have given me every reason to believe that they are.
The right didn't like the direction of the Catholic Church, especially the U.S. Catholic Church. They didn't like all those letters on Peace and Justice coming out of the American Bishops and decided something had to be done about them. The pastoral letter on the economy was the last straw.
It's no surprise that the appointees of JPII would be pushing the Republican Party and its candidates. They are beginning the most blatant attempt by the Vatican to shape American politics in history. It is an astounding irony that the way to tell the Pope to keep out of American politics is to vote for the Catholic.
George W. Bush is the Pope's candidate, it is as simple as that.
Wojtyla brings dishonor on his office every time something like this happens. And don't give me that it's just the curia run amock. It's been developing throughout his entire papacy. He isn't stupid, if he wanted to stop it he could. He's an absolute mornach, for Pete's sake.
I'm glad I'm out of it.

See, this is the problem with "gotcha" politics. If an outsider who wants to run for office -- to make the world a better place -- is going to get their personal life picked apart in the liberal media, good upstanding folk won't run for office.
A politician's religion is their own personal business, as long as they're a conservative Christian and/or Republican. Their religious beliefs should be a private matter between them and their church, except when attempting to force those beliefs on everyone through legislation.
Obviously Arnold's personal life is off limits. How dare you lower the discourse so?

I could at least respect the Vatican's position if they also refused communion to pro-Death Penalty Catholics. If they don't do so then I believe their position against Pro-Choice politicians is just political and aimed at Kerry in particular.

But it's OK. After all, he's for killing people who have been born. That seems to be OK with the Catholic Church.
And he's a conservative who hates poor people, thereby giving all good Christians the opportunity to show their love of humanity by funding charitable organizations that help poor people. If government did it all, what would the rich have to do, but spend their money on luxuries?
Isn't the Catholic Church the group that not only acted as a haven and enabler for pedophiles, but also helped keep them from facing the consequences of their evil?

I think some of the early bishops they decided later were really Popes were non-Europeans, on I believe reading was North African.
Don't hold out too much hope for the next pope, even if he is non-European. He's going to be far right unless the Holy Ghost intervenes. We all used to think that a non-Italian Pople would be a welcome breath of fresh air, but this one's been closing the windows that Good Pope John finally opened.

I guess a developing fetus is more important than a sentient human being, kind of like an invisible god is more revered than a human being.
The same Catholics who would refuse JFK Holy Communion because he believes in allowing women to decide what to do with their bodies are the same faction of the church who support the death penalty and the killing of Arabs via the new 'terrorist' crusade/inquisition.
This is not about the sanctity of human life. It all comes down to the continued propogation of the misogynist, patriarchal paradigm that's been in effect for thousands of years. I think it's time for a new paradigm.

You have to wonder why the Catholic Church should have any influence at all. Not that Catholics shouldn't be influenced by their religion, just not their church. I mean, let's be honest--it doesn't have the greatest track record in the world. Maybe a few Catholics should tell the church to concern itself with the actual religion rather than trying to decide elections.
Hopefully its attempts to sabotage Kerry will be pretty much ignored by Catholics as they realize that these actions are . . . well, stupid and hypocritical, frankly.

They aren't like some of the members of their heirarchy who want to bring back The Dark Ages along with the fundies, who think the Catholic church is The Great Whore of Babylon, btw. Though conservative in many ways, the Catholics I've met tend to be liberal and down-to-earth in many other ways.
As far as religion goes, I've found the average Catholic to be much more tolerant than Mormons, who tend to be much, MUCH more tolerant than fundamentalist Christians. Where the upper echelon in their leadership is coming from, I have no idea.

Like these people give a damn about the Pope? Most of their wingnut base consist of people who think the Pope is either the herald of the anti-christ or simply the head of some freemason, illuminati world order cult.
Take a walk through the backwaters of northern Michigan, Missouri, or even Montana, the 3-M's, and you'll find any number of people that would spit in the Pope's eye given half the chance.
The fact he's polish doesn't help matters either.
This is simply republican partisan politics. They've played it on every issue. There is nothing they won't abuse for political gain.
Of course if we were to spy on one of the various wingnut blogs they're using the same language we are right now about the Dem's.
Isn't it funny how these people toss out the words 'fascist' and 'nazi' about liberals and Dems, without even bothering to see if they correspond to the actual truth in their behavior?
If anything we're closer to socialists, but fascists? Never!
Yet Limbug calls liberals fascists and doesn't even understand what that word means.
What's also interesting is what the conditions would be should 'Jesus' ever return. We no longer have a democracy but a monarchy. We are no longer a free people but slaves to the whim of a super-king. The whole thing is laughable. Conservatives talk about individual freedoms when they're inclined to subjugate people to the will of a monarchy in contrast to liberals who would prefer true freedom for the individual but with considerations to one another that demand some concessions in regards to how one behaves with respect to others.
to the bum kisser who calls himself "Liberals are Liars": I followed your link and found this gem:
We need to jettison this entire income tax system, and the IRS, and institute a simple, Flat Tax of 13% or a National Retail Sales Tax, across the board. The current tax system is insanity. (((:::SIGH::))

friaress, I was raised by Catholics who worked their asses off for social justice. That part of the church has largely been forgotten by some in the hierarchy, who are more concerned about whether Africans are using condoms than that millions of them are dying of AIDS.
Proclamations about cosmetic issues like this, which are determined to do nothing but stir up pointless controversy, make me crazy. My father later became a flat-out atheist and told me once, "Melt down all the gold in the Vatican, sell the art collection, auction off the trappings of the church and you could cure all the world's diseases." It may be simplistic, but it struck a real chord with me.
I think this issue is interesting because Catholics used to be Democrats, I think because they felt looked down upon by Wasps. This is changing. As Catholics, especially Irish Catholics feel just at home as Wasps in the US, I think they will become more conservative, more Republican.
"I ain't gonna bump no more with no big fat woman" is on the radio. I just had to laugh.

For those who've been around long enough to remember the 1960 campaign (I was a college freshman and an enthusiatic JFK supporter frustrated at being too young to vote) this whole 'Catholic politician must follow church doctrine' thing is incredible. Renato's point is entirely appropriate. We have regressed and the church doctrine garbage is only the tip of a very deep iceberg.
