i know. it's such a stark example of just how fucking stupid the notion of a 'liberal media bias' is.
i saw judy woodruff on cnn a few nights ago talking about whether kerry was afraid to acknowledge soros' contributions or not... with the intimation that if he did acknowledge soros it would be a mistake, because clearly he is disturbed.
it made me sick quite frankly. just that they're able to continually get away with it time after time, and no one cares or seems to really notice other than us.
another example of the difference between the concept of a liberal media perpetrated by the republicans, and the reality that exists, is the way in which laura bush and their bush's daughters together have totally been given a complete pass from any sort of judgement or commentary at all. whereas hilary clinton has always been fair game, and was chased around the barn for eight years by republicans weilding their shovels and pick axes, and continues to have to run from these idiots to this day.

yeah, I found myself watching that last night. Couldn't believe when Hannity kept going "Man, can you believe how crazy these liberals are?" When Soros was calmly just sitting their, expressing his opinion. And what he said wasn't that far off, he said they were two horrible things that happened, one happened to us and one perpetrated by us, but at the same time there is no equating them. What does Hillary need to deny about that?

Y'know, I was involuntarily watching CNN at the gym today - it's mounted right in front of the treadmills, you can't not see it - and noted that they, too, went out of their way to identify Soros as "a Hungarian Jew who survived the Holocaust." (I believe that's verbatim.)
I was all like, WTF? How on earth is that germane to their story, which was about the $15 million Soros has spent to enact regime change here at home? All I could think was a logic flow something like this:
1. Damn, this Soros has a fuckload of money.
2. How does someone who's not, e.g. Bill Gates (or even Kobe Bryant) pull down that kind of coin?
3. Oh, he's got teh Jew? That explains *everything*. Thanks, CNN!

Even now, you have to determine that you will repent and follow and become one with Christianity through Rev. Moon.”

Soros built his fortune in currency trading and hedge funds, if i remember my college political economy courses correctly. he was also the guy who claimed he could bring down countries' economies with the currency he moved. He had a hand in the black monday (or whatever day it was) when the british pound collapsed in the early '90s and moved a LOT (like billions and billions) of Bahts out of Thailand around the time the S.E. Asian economies blew up in '97. Some think that movement helped to trigger the collapse, in fact.
I've always considered him a maverick either way. He's inscrutable and a pure capitalist... but he's also got a humanitarian side and it just so happens that he likes the Democrats. It's funny, because he's the kind of guy Hannity would worship if he was giving to the right (Right?) cause.

The receptivity of the great masses is very limited, their intelligence is small, but their power of forgetting is enormous. In consequence of these facts, all effective propaganda must be limited to a very few points and must harp on these in slogans until the last member of the public understands what you want him to understand by your slogan. As soon as you sacrifice this slogan and try to be many-sided, the effect will piddle away, for the crowd can neither digest nor retain the material offered. In this way the result is weakened and in the end entirely cancelled out.
"Liberals like you are so close to your sick coup of American life and thought you can't see just how sily and biased you are. Mark, dear boy, which flavor of kool-aid have you been drinking?
The attacks on Soros show something that isn't new but certainly is becoming more evident: how thin the threads are that suspend conservatives' estimations of the strength of their opinions. They're so insecure that the minute a guy like Soros shows up and offers money to get the opposing side's views out there, they go berserk.
It shows that despite their protestations of support from all over America, despite their constant reiterations that they think they really are right, they're desperately afraid they're wrong.
Their power, therefore, depends on their followers never hearing a different view.
I heard Rush going on and on about Soros today, and I thought "WTF?" I mean, do they really think this is a winning strategy? Going after a donor? Is the Soros topic red meat for the Nascar dads? Who knew? Seems a bit, uh, esoteric, compared to Rush's usual fare.

No one has said so explicitly, but I took Blankley's comment to mean that Soros must have been a Nazi collaborator to have survived. Of course he couldn't say so directly since it's, at best, unverifiable. As for Blankley's accent, it's some sort of prepschool accent, whether he went to one or nor. Here's a fun fact -- you're paying to support this drivel whether you watch it or not. It's basic cable -- your hard-earned dollars go to finance this, along with Spongebob and TCM.
Two approaches, maybe. 1) A mass-drive asking cable operators all across the country to drop Fox News. This would probably accomplish exactly nothing. So 2) A mass simultaneous cable cancellation. There are millions of us pissed off at this. If we all canceled our cable at the same time, it would register. Dollars, or lack thereof, seem to be the only language that these people understand.

Soros is not a crank, not a "leftist Scaife" because he doesn't obsess about conspiracy theories like Scaife. Soros is a million times more reasonable than Scaife.
But this is another confirmation of what we were saying...well, every three threads or thereabouts: active anti-Semitism is preserved, as per a distinction written about by Winston Chruchill, where there are Jews who are useful to the State (as in NeoNazis) and Jews who are "fair game" because their liberal criticism threatens the State (as in the people Michael Weiner attacks). Thus the tying together of "imagery" to allow this thoughtless virulent hatred of "intellectuals" and "ivory-tower tenured professors".
Part of our initial confusion was that some of the Jews who were actually "figuring out ways" (so they thought anyway) were like the Jewish councils and the ghetto police, the modern equivalent of which is the NeoNazi cabal arguing that we need a perpetual war and a strong police state for our Heimat.
Soros would be protected from this vile leucorrheia of a statement...if he were the right kind of Jew. Fail to lick the boot and you're not protected, because it's not real multicultural tolerance, it's good old Julius Caesar's patronage for the obedient Gaul.
George Soros should be proud, he should come out with a statement about how proud he is that these absolutely low base little dreckgolem (note to George if you're reading this: don't use this exact language) are treating him like this. What this says about him and about them, he should be proud.

Their idea is that corporate giving to republicans is "healthy" because it is simply corporations advancing their own interests. For rich people or people in power to give to defeat the republicans is against nature!
The Hannitys of the world have a particular porblem with it, because it suggests to them, at some barely conscious level, that perhaps there is something amiss with their simplistic understanding of a world in which they are simply acting "naturally" by pursuing their self-interest.

You should ask George to zap you, too. It's incredible.
Palmer...excellent point about boycotting cable. I used to have it. I don't anymore.
There's some things I don't get to watch, granted...like the Daily Show. But as far as activism goes, I haven't found annything more to the point than boycotting.
One thing you could also do is call your provider and ask that Fox be removed from your service. Personally, I just have a DVD player and VCR, and I get by just fine. Though I wish they'd release the Simpsons box sets a little more often.

STL Post Dispatch ran a long "Why the GOP Fears This Man" article in the Sunday OpEd section a few weeks back. Jist was Soros is buying the election thru 527's. Painted him in a negative light. I wrote the author and said she had no balance, never mentioned Scaife, Moon et al. She wrote back, said she was talking solely about 527's, she was fair and balanced, move along.

i too know a few things about soros through my work. he's under attack for the same reason some movie stars have been - he's an insanely rich LIBERAL power broker with international connections. he sets up think tanks, political action committees and cash-charged foundations to scientifically study how to stick it, hard, to the right wing. the bakuninist in me that yearns for the abolition of the monetary system distrusts him, of course, but the part of me that enjoys poking a stick into an anthill likes to see the way wingers scurry around trying to find proof that he's an emissary of ZOG. scurry on, wingers, scurry on. maybe you'll all drop dead from right wing rage and we'll have a planet left to live on in ten years.
even anarchist revolutionaries will attest it doesn't always hurt to have a couple sympathetic rich friends.

the bakuninist in me that yearns for the abolition of the monetary system distrusts him, of course,
Nothing against you, but I have to point out that Bakunin was a colossal putz, whose initial upper-crust, romantic, giddy obsession with Hegelian idealism caused him to be as soft-headed and ineffectual about anarchism as he'd been about a dozen or so previous pet projects. And his pathological dishonesty and unreliability landed a number of his "comrades" in very hot water indeed.
Some of his stuff sounds fine on paper...but read a good biography on him and it's hard not to be disgusted with his personality.

While the "Jew who survived the Holocaust" bit was disgusting - and try to parse it anyway you want, Blankley was OBVIOUSLY trying to paint Soros as a collaborator - what bent my weenie was how the Moon-man made such a big deal about Soros being an atheist. Like that's a negative. Like anyone who doesn't believe in the invisible cosmic thunder muffin is eeeeeveul and can't be trusted.
Course, I'm not surprised, what with the friggin' president mentioned GAWD every third breath and nimrod bishops blasting Kerry because he doesn't toe their line (while remaining mysteriously silent on pro-death penalty Catholic Republicans). So Soros doesn't follow an out-moded, out-dated and practically worthless superstition (in my opinion, calm down, beloved), so fucking what? That matters?
Well, to the people this was broadcast for, yep. And unusual they didn't mention all the rich cats pulling the GOP strings.
As far as Moon, I'm amazed at how unknown he is. It's my understanding that in the '70s, the Unification Church was considered a cult and Moonies were considered something of a joke. The fuck happened? I've told several of my extreme liberal friends who do not have internet access about Moon, the Washington Times, UPI, the whole "head of the Earth's religions" thing, the call for homo genocide, the picture demand while aardvarking, and so on and so forth, and they look at me like I'm telling a fairy tale.
I missed Blankley last night -- in fact, I make it a point to miss Hannity just as often as possible -- but I am sure he was as repulsive as ever: Jabba the Hutt in lounge-lizard clothes, a downmarket London accent that he's done some (but not enough) work on, the general louche air of a child-fondling uncle.

All of you people have to get with the program.
An anti-semite is not a person who hates Jews.
An anti-semite is a person who hates Israel.
Jews are not allowed to have an identity as individuals (especially as far as politics go). Thus, if an American of Spanish or an American of French descent bitches out France or Spain, he a good American. If an American of East European Jewish descent bitches out the government of Israel, he's a self-hating "anti-semite."
It's not only not anti-semitic to attack George Soros because he's Jewish (although as an atheist I don't know how much he identifies with the religion of his ancestors), George Soros is an anti-semite because liberals are opposed to George Bush's plans for the Middle-East and thus are objectively on the side of Al Qaeda and Hamas.
BTW, war is peace and freedom is slavery.

My understanding of Soros's background is that he was a child during the holocaust and his father sent him to live with a christian friend, where he posed as that person's son. That's how he survived. As far as bringing down the markets, if you know anything about derivatives and market bubbles, there was someone on the other side of every one of his bets. Soros makes money by recognizing when markets are out of whack and then bets big that they will come back to normal. He doesn't create the markets, he just knows them very well and is unashamed to make money off of them.

It's not a double standard if you look at your 'job' as an advocate, as a lawyer does when arguing a position on behalf of a client that the lawyer may or may not believe in. The lawyer's skill includes in part the ability to forcefully and persuasively argue any position. It's not a hypocritical or a double standard or willful blindness -- it's a job.
Now, most advocates know when they are blowing smoke and expect to be called on crappy illogical arguments. But cable TV is not an honest courtroom, not only is there not a judge to stop the bloviator cold, they have the license to go on and on and on . . .

Wow! I'd never been to the fixed earth site before. It turns out my people (or rather _some_ of my people...the site emphasizes there are good "Biblical creationist" Jews) are even more evil and powerful than I had ever imagined. I need to start paying more attention at those Elders of Zion meetings!

The basic task of the ADL is to defend the good name of the Israeli right and its supporters. Very occasionally, someone will do something that's so obviously and publicly antisemitic, yet has little to do with Likud, that Foxman takes notice (e.g. The Passion of the Christ). But ADL spends far too much time denouncing as antisemitic that which isn't, while ignoring antisemitic garbage that happens to come from "friends" of Israel (with friends like the premillenialist Christian community, who needs enemies?).
What's amusing is how ADL behaves when Israel has a Labor government (not really left, but a lot more left than ADL likes). Foxman's statements start shifting, only to snap back to their proper place when Likud is back in power.
All of this is a shame because, while there are certainly more pressing problems in the world, antisemitism -- real antisemitism -- does exist and is a problem. The organization that is supposedly dedicated to fighting antisemitism would actually be doing something useful if it did so in good faith.

My Kingdom for a chance to punch Hannity right in the kisser.
True confessions time:
Tonight, I went to a party, thrown by a friend who works with Sean Hannity. I even shook hands with one of his fellow wingnut radio personalities.
I did not mention politics ONCE.
No, really. I was the very model of a party guest.
Now, shouldn't I get a medal, or a ribbon, or something, for my admirable self-restraint?
(Okay, okay, maybe if it HAD been Hannity... yeah, well, but it WASN'T, so pfft!

Shouldn't someone get the guy to clarify what he means by this statement. Seems a bit of a fog.

If he is saying Soros collaborated with the Nazis, did he have any evidence?

Let's not beat around the bush, shall we?
Fuck Hannity.
I will bust him in the nose if I ever see him. Why? Because that is the only thing that bastard will understand. I'll be sure and wear a 'Save the Rainforest' shirt when I do it. And I'll post a link to the mugshot (of me) to prove it.
The best part would be, that he would be 'on vacation' for 10 days while his racoon face healed up.

John G, the chart is excellent as usual.
My multiple emails to the ADL after John's Salon article on Moon last fall requesting that they denounce Moon and demand that politicians distance themselves from him as vociferously as they do with Farakhan went unanswered.
They will ignore Fat Tony Blankley as well. On the bright side: at least he's acknowledging that the Holocaust happened. And perhaps if Soros survived, it was due to the generosity of Prescott Bush?

a good Jew in the 1940's in germany was killed. his death was a good thing because it laid the foundation for, and was redeemed by, the holy state of israel (harbinger of Christ's return). any jew who was not killed is now not a jew. jews are a people who once were victims (during the Holocaust) who are now, with "our help" (i.e., the help of rightwing rethugs) heroically living among savages and serving on the frontlines in the war on terror. any jew who was not killed or is not now living among savages fighting terror is not a jew, but, like soros, a self-hating jew.

Although I've never had a desire to be wealthy, I must say it's enjoyable to watch from the sidelines as someone as bright and talented as Soros can spend his money as he likes, and say, ha ha ha to anyone who doesn't like him. He's past their reach, due in large measure to his money. What can they do to him? Fire him? It's a vicarious pleasure to see him enrage the folks who would love to control him.

Enlightened capitalists like Soros create cognitive dissonance in the minds of typical right wingers whose memes are hard wired to believe that all capitalists and wealthy people are conservative.

You know, it never ceases to amaze me whenever some wingnut brings up the "George Soros is trying to buy the election" meme. None of these schmucks seem to have anything to say whenever we hear about how the Chimp is out selling his ass on the campaign trail to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars. As usual, the rules are different if you're a liberal Democrat. Still, it's kind of fun to watch the wingnut pundits get so desperate they're reduced to bashing guys like George Soros.

You would think the wing nuts, who all seem be to be parroting the same line....ie Soros is a nutty Jew (who at a tender age, somehow escaped the Nazis..he must have done something bad to survive and grow up and make billions of dollars, which he gives away to actual good causes, rather than support Right Wing Hacks)
Or that Al Gore is crazy.
Or that Iraq Pictures came out some porn factory...
You think all these geniuses would figure out in the babble of Democracy,
their old screeds ain't working.

Soros is pouring money into anti-Bush efforts because the United States of today is not the country he first came to as a refugee. This stuff is more evidence that this is the case, and I hope it provokes another $10 million from Soros.

BLANKLEY: Look, if he wasn't a multi-billionaire, he'd just be another ignored left-wing crank, but we all tend to pay more attention to people who have several billion dollars.
No shit. Sort of the way we pay attention to a guy with millions who was a failure his entire life but is now the President.

No I think I get it now that the whole sentence is there:
As in he is both a Jew who survived the Holocaust and an Atheist.
Implying that as a Jew who survived the Holocaust he has no right to be an atheist because of the Millions who died based on their race/religion.
I think he was not implying that he was a traitor to his race by escaping the Holocaust but he is a traitor to his race now because he is an atheist.

A wag might decry the apparent fact that Hannity's antecedents were not jews who had not figured out a way to survive the Holocaust.
You'd think this guy was a writer for People's Daily:
"Soros -- a self-styled citizen of the world who has spent billions meddling in the internal affairs of many nations -- has been credited with wrecking national currencies and toppling governments."
Actually, it's James Norell, a writer for the NRA whose piece is in the electronic rag, Frontpagemag.com.(May 31)
As BenA astutely pointed out, the fascists didn't care what propaganda they used against the Jews (bolshevik Schwein, capitalist Schwein) as long as it worked. We see that clearly in operation here.
Just try to remember: The neocons and Bushies spread democracy, while Soros "meddles in the internal affairs of others".
Of course, when Soros does it, it's on his dime, but when the neocons do it, it's on yours.

I think it would be marvelous if, every time the VRWC attacks Soros, he gives $100k to MoveOn or whomever.
That would put a stop to that shit pretty quick. And I think Soros has quite a bit of $100K bundles sitting around.
These fuckers are just beside themselves that a rich fucker would actually be on the Democrats' side. It's like a bunch of mafia thugs turning on Michael Corleone because he wants to have a 'straight' job and life. (That is, Michael before he became a mafioso himself)

Kevin-Colmes reacted to an argument that wasn't made, imagining that Soros was merely attacked for "being Jewish" and that everybody has a right to a religion. Notice the rhetorical cut-off, because in this case had Colmes acknowledged the Holocaust bit there would be no way for him to get out like he did, thus the straw man.

super duper anonymous, no, you're not because you're changing the quote. It was part of a list, Blankley was just listing the reasons he hates Soros, those two were not necessarily related. And the meaning is not that changed anyway between "Jew who figured out an escape, and then turned Atheist" and "he's a Jew who figured out an escape and also he's an Atheist".
This Blankley is a Nazi who figured out a way to survive Liberation and he's also a Jew-hater.
