NO! A repug cheating, stealing, using his office for personal gain? I just don't believe it! What will happen next? The Supreme Court stopping the vote counting and deciding in favor of a repug for president?

What the frank is franking?
Instead of a stamp, or a postage permit, the congressman's signature, or "frank" goes on the envelope and the federal government pays for the postage. Congressmen have franking priviledges that they can use for official correspondence, including letters to their constituents. They can't use them for campaign literature, but most congressman walk up to the line on that, sending out letters that pretty much say "I'm groovy, look what I've done for my district" but fall short of actually asking you to vote for them.

Eh, this could be an honest mistake.
Let's spend some time getting upset about Bush turning tail at Tora Bora in 2002 thus letting a billion opium poppies bloom instead.
So few people know how bad Bush and Rumsfeld strategic errors at Tora Bora actually were. This should be the central issue of the election.

There is a great article in the July Vanity Fair about Tom Delay and his actions regarding the slimy-ness with which he operates. It also discusses the re-districting mess he was involved in. Not to sound naive, but I didn't know he was *that* corrupt. Slimy maybe, but the power he has given himself opened my eyes. For those who are uneducated about the details, check out the article.

What is with the Texans in congress from the good old GOP???
Endless. Tom DeLay has taught them well, the term mafia comes to mind. As does arrogant and above the law (GW Bush comes to mind). As does pissy (Dick Cheney comes to mind).

Thanks a lot, George. Fumbling around for details on this animation we actually saw in Arabic on a temporary trial of an elective cable channel, with a spacefaring society based on 1870s Prussia and a character named "Royal Windsor", we come across this. At the bottom of the page. Inbetween the Japanese and Brazilian flags. Sheesh. Damn site's about old computer games, for Christ's sake.

And why is the rest of the House, at least, willing to go on being Tom DeLay's dog?
Why do they behave as though they are afraid of him?

Eh, this could be an honest mistake.
Ummm, no. They know exactly who's in their district.
This was deliberate. Everyone in texas knows about redistricting, especially the texas congressional delegation. They sat around like fat cats dividing up the state.

What's the latest skinny on the DeLay investigations, anyway? Is there any chance the Bugfucker will ever be frog-marched out of office and sent to some country club for white collar criminals, as he so richly deserves? (He actually deserves a lot worse than that, but that's about the best we can hope for in his case.)

One of Barton's aides was instrumental in the redistricting fracas. He wrote a particularly obnoxious e-mail about how the had been shafted, parts of which were reprinted in the local papers. Did anyone (like maybe the Supreme Court) raise a stink? Nope. IOKIYAR indeed.

Morris Meyer called me up here in NY state a couple of days ago, and we had a nice chat. I had sent a whopping $25 to his campaign some months ago, and he was hoping I could donate again. I was impresssed that the candidate hisself was working the phones and reaching out to small donors...

didn't a certain dem congressman, Dan Rostenkowski, go to jail for something similar?
No. Rosty was accused of exchanging a few thousand $ worth of postage stamps for cash. He never pled guilty but was convicted and did his time.
What struk me as odd about it at the time was the trivial ammount of money involved, in comparisson to other, legal, sources available to congresspeople.
Rosty was a champion at bringing federal $ to Chicagoland.
