I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

GravatarI say bloggers don't do real journalism!

Of course, I could be wrong...
.

GravatarThere was already some blogger on C-SPAN several months ago, but as we'd said this guy was a slobbering racist endorsing, with the help of callers, the very worst of the extreme right. And of course talking about leftist bloggers as insane, and of course without challenge from the host.

GravatarThe Digby post shows the kind of journalism that bloggers can do. They can keep on reminding the mainstream media about facts and inconsistencies, and that's great. Where they face trouble is when checking the facts requires flying to another country or something, unless they're well funded by someone.

GravatarWowza, that's a good pulling-together of facts, I hadn't realised that Shelby had tried to get an anti-leak amendment out - and then proceeded to leak some pretty serious stuff...

GravatarEach day I read Atrios, Orcinus, Kevin Drum, Kos, Digby and The Daily Howler (among some others, such as Dan Gillmor and Boing Boing) and there's more good journalism in them most days than in most papers most days. This shouldn't be so, and in fact it shouldn't even be possible, but it is so.

GravatarFuck Shelby. God I am sick of these people. Bill Maher's not my favorite guy, but I loved him taking it to Coke-headie last night: Would a patriot do that?

GravatarEvery major media organization in the country should be ashamed of themselves.

GravatarCandor is missed in the halls of congress. For the sake of maintaining the respect and dignity of the institution it seems.
But candor about the deceptive nature of legislators abusing their priviledges should be made, either in the open for all to see, or in the confines of congressional offices in full view of a gathering of other members, both Dem' and Republican.
Exposure, and hopefully shame, should help to keep some in line, or provide enough leverage to opposition party members to keep the transgressors in line.
Too bad these people think themselves above the law, they might actually amount to something.

MYOB'
.

GravatarIt's not just Congress and the White House, everybody seems to have lots to hide.

GravatarAnd Digby has been exceptional lately - this one is no surprise.
More props!!

GravatarWhat does IOKIYAR mean?

GravatarMaxi,

It's ok if you're a Republican.

GravatarI forgot about that whole "outlawing leaks" thing. And I forgot Shelby was the man behind it. Good gravy. What a silly bastard. You know you're a fruitcake when Bob Barr says you've gone too far.

GravatarSmear a decorated war hero? IOKIYAR!

Spit on a paraplegic Vietnam vet? IOKIYAR!

Dodge the draft, snort cocaine, and go AWOL? IOKIYAR!

There'll be more...

GravatarI had a dream that Corsi had returned to Freeperville.

Gravatar"And I deeply resent the destruction of federalism represented by Hillary Clinton's willingness to go into a state she doesn't even live in and pretend to represent people there. So I certainly wouldn't imitate it."

Alan Keyes
March 17, 2000

It's interesting that the same Illinois Republicans who will not be supporting John Kerry because he's a "flip-flopper" will have absolutely no problem whatsoever casting their vote for Alan Keyes, the carpetbagger.

Shameless hypocrisy.

GravatarSomeone mentioned Bill Maher's show:

My favorite part was when they showed Kerry and Bush doing lines of cocaine, and Cokie leans over to Steve Harvey and asks "what is that?"

Gravatar"Shameless hypocrisy.--Moonlight"

Um. I.O.K.I.Y.A.R.

GravatarI think it's so nice that we can tell our Republican friends that it's OK if you are Republican - some of them are truly embarrassed.

Those folks are in for a hell of a fight for the soul of their party someday.

GravatarThose folks are in for a hell of a fight for the soul of their party someday.

No kidding.

GravatarOT, but...

Krugman is on Russert's show, along with O'Reilly, and O'Reilly was going off on a disjointed rant on how small government is needed to help the common man, and how Krugman's socialist programs will hurt them. Krugman responds by saying "I am an economist, and I have an extensive publication record, and to call me a socialist is slander."

O'Reilly retorts that he called him a "quasi-socialist" and Krugman says "Oh, that's good. Well then you're a quasi murder."

Oh snap!

Day-um. Did O'Reily's head explode or did he leap across the table to throttle Krugman? Wow. Knew I liked that guy for some reason, the shrill little darlin'.

GravatarKarl Rove Bags Another US Spy!!

Unmasking of Qaeda Mole a U.S. Security Blunder-Experts

Sat Aug 7, 2004 12:46 PM ET

By Peter Graff

LONDON (Reuters) - The revelation that a mole within al Qaeda was exposed after Washington [Karl Rove] launched its [absolutely FAKE] "orange alert" this month has shocked security experts, who say the outing of the source may have set back the war on terror. (...)

The New York Times obtained Khan's name independently,

[From the Rove White House]

and U.S. officials confirmed it when it appeared in the paper the next morning.

Gravatarok, so reuters had it juan cole analyzed it, and now NYT has this.
`If it's true that the Americans have unintentionally revealed the identity of another nation's intelligence agent, who appears to be working in the good of all of us, that is not only a fundamental intelligence flaw its also a monumental foreign relations blunder,'' security expert Paul Beaver, a former publisher of Jane's Defense Weekly, told Reuters.

like kerry said, we need a more 'sensitive'(as in intelligent, careful) war on terror. i can't believe the it's ok if you are a... are trying to turn this into the earthtone meme. stupidest mthrfkrs on the face of this unholy earth.

Gravatarbackslider:

Bill didn't have much to say, just that we all know where they both stand.

The show degenerated from there, culminating in O'Reilly accusing Krugman of associating with the left wing equivalent of the KKK for using Media Matters as a resource to call Bill on his bullshit.

GravatarThose folks are in for a hell of a fight for the soul of their party someday.

No kidding.
------------

The fight for the soul of the GOP was during the Reagan years. The Liberals were purged, then the moderates, and so on. Today, conservatives like McCain look like sensible moderates next to these knuckle draggers.

GravatarI looked up Corsi's thesis at Harvard (on the assumption that most people with real doctorates don't usually make such a big deal about it) (although as I think on it, the ones who do are invariably 'wingers), but sure enough, it's on their HOLLIS database, "An analysis of some soul-killingly dull thing that no one gives a shit about but my advisor," Corsi, Jerome Robert, 1972.

So we know what he did during the Vietnam war.

Gravatarbut but but that would mean the repeaters have to do research and that's like, well, homework.

GravatarHaha. It's what Jonathan Chait calls ass-welt reporting

GravatarIf reporters would do their jobs maybe the rest of us could go back to painting, or playing computer games, or working on that great novel that just never seems to get finished, and just blog away peacefully about what we had for dinner and such.

Ya think?

Gravatar"like kerry said, we need a more 'sensitive'(as in intelligent, careful) war on terror."

No, we need to get the Coup out of power, period. This isn't incompetance, for the millionth time! They are shining their fat asses in your face.

'My administration never rests when it comes to damaging this country for money, profit, and wicked fun. Fuck AAmerikkka.' --GWB, turning the corner on his thumb.

GravatarI see that a Republican Senator blamed Howard Dean for forcing the Administration to "out" their spy in order to prove the info was valid because og=f his questioning the legitamacy of the terror alert... eh?

GravatarJournal - c.1355, "book of church services," from Anglo-Fr. jurnal "a day," from O.Fr. journal, originally "daily" (adj.), from L.L. diurnalis "daily" (see diurnal). Sense of "daily record of transactions" first recorded 1565; that of "personal diary" is 1610, from a sense found in French. Journalism is 1833 in Eng., likewise from Fr. (where it is attested from 1781).

Log (v.) - "to enter into a log book," 1823, from logbook "daily record of a ship's speed, progress, etc." (1679), which is so called because wooden floats were used to measure a ship's speed. To log in in the computing sense is attested from 1963.

OK, somebody explain to me again how a blogger isn't a journalist. Bullshit, blogging is the new jounalism. His Bobness was just a bit ahead of his time when he said The Times They Are A-Changing. The Posts, too. Also Tribs, Heralds....

GravatarGo, Goober...so are these clowns really in over their heads or what? Rove seems to have only a hammer in his toolbox, when anyone can plainly see that GWB needs a 2 x 4...Kerry seems to be pretty loose, for him, and they've been keeping Edwards a little under the radar (maybe the SCLM), but that may be strategy, and letting the Monkey House Boys fling their shit hither and yon, then end up eating it when they let Chimpy talk, or "out" another agent. Kerry has been out making friends, zinging da preznit every so often. It looks like a very smart, well-run, under control campaign, which is really hard to beat. Remember Gore? Yeah, he won, but not by enough, and he should have kicked Bush's ass back to Texas with ease, but the plan didn't call for that. Kerry doesn't appear to have made that mistake.

Gravatar"Did O'Reily's head explode or did he leap across the table to throttle Krugman?"

No,he just hollered at the top of his lungs, "SHUT UP, SHUT UP, SHUT UP!"

GravatarKrugman knew how to pull O'Reilly's string:

'This isn't your show, you can't cut my mike.'

GravatarBtw, this is the first time I've actually watch O'Reilly for more than about 30 seconds. He's astonishing. Empty vessels really do make the most noise. Putting him up against Krugman? Gawd, it's like putting Chimpy up against... John Kerry.

The crazy thing is that Krugman -- being called a quasi-socialist by O'Reilly -- was the recipient of many brickbats from the left in the 90s for being too gung-ho about globalised trade. It's a testament to the way in which the right has claimed to be the centre, that a centrist economist gets smeared as the bastard son of Karl Marx for refusing to take this shit.

GravatarOne thing for Team Kerry to note: O'Reilly playing the 'we all know you're much cleverer than me' faux-modesty shit. Bush may do this in the debates. The best way to counter it is to say, 'well, I don't claim to be cleverer, but I do claim to have a better grasp on the facts and the issues.'

GravatarPlease, what does IOKIYAR mean?

GravatarThe fight for the soul of the GOP was during the Reagan years. The Liberals were purged, then the moderates, and so on. Today, conservatives like McCain look like sensible moderates next to these knuckle draggers.
Darwin | Email | Homepage | 08.07.04 - 8:19 pm | #

So true. We tend to forget that McCain is the rightful political heir of Barry Goldwater -- neither left nor right of him. In the past 35 years the entire Republican party has moved so far off-center that McCain/Goldwater seems like one of the most reasonable guys among them.

GravatarWho says bloggers don't do real journalism?

Why the corporate media whores, who's own ineptitude and dereliction of duty is increasingly exposed by the growth of the blogosphere, that's who.

GravatarSeth, go to DKosopedia.com and click on "Kossary" for a complete etymology, but it means "it's OK if you're a Republican" [but not if you're a Dem]

GravatarFor further illustration of IOKIYAR, compare Bill Clinton's humints and terror investigations and either George Bush's. IOKIYAR is actually a prime basckward motivation ofr a Kerry presidency, because whereas now IOKIYAR has the major media buying every single lie with happy cooing, Kerry's most minor acts, be they equally or less heinous than Bush's, will not be subject to IOKIYAR: the mantle of mindless media worship will be thrown back, Kerry will be scrutinized and criticized as if he were President and not a king, and things will be better.

GravatarIt's really not "journalism" to point out inconsistencies on the park of politicians, Duncan. It's like shooting fish in a barrel, but it's not journalism.
