I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

Only read the freeper link if you have a strong stomach. I just don't understand 'em....

Crazy scumbags

GravatarI have a feeling that real life tough guys don't hang out at Free Republic. What a bunch of sad sacks those guys are. They must still live in elementary school in their minds. And have you ever seen their pictures? UGLY. That must be why they live in some fantasy world

GravatarNo.

They make noises.

I notice most of those posts are under pseudonyms.

Children, pretending they are adults, behaving like beasts. Typical. Not enlightening. And as empty and pointless as adolescent boys talking about what they will do when they don't depend on their parents anymore.

The ones who don't grow up, end up asking "Do you want fries with that?"

Vapor. All vapor.

GravatarThat was more than a little disturbing.

GravatarYes. Now I need a shower. I'd rather not have known what is brewing within the freeperdom.

GravatarHey, Atrios. Did you get this from my post in Bartcop's forum, or elsewhere?

GravatarUgh. Interesting group over there. Where's my bottle of pink bismuth?....

GravatarI think any links to freeperville should have a disclaimer of not safe for work. I just heaved all over my cubicle mate's desk.

GravatarOk I read it, now that was interesting. I especially liked the guy who indicated he was going to wear his Sig and his wife her Walther.

They are worried about Democrats jiggering the election? Gimmeabreak!

Okay, you see someone at the polling location carrying a weapon, report it as a possible terrorist. You are only doing what a good citizen should do.

Then sit back and watch.

GravatarJeebus, they can't even spell Tom Paine correctly. Must be because they're posting in the lulls when their oxycontin stops working.

Gravataronehandle,

from you

GravatarWell... if that news turns off enough of them not to vote for Bush, they've become your unholy allies in a way, haven't they?

Gravatar[I]t is a tale Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing.

GravatarInternational observers? Bring 'em on!

This is America, Land of the Free and Home of the Brave, making the world save for Democracy since 1917!

We invite the whole world to watch as we demonstrate our cherished democratic ideals and mechanisms in operation--watch us, as we show you how it's done. Watch as we select our leaders in the time-honored way, with every citizen encouraged to vote, and every vote counted.

If your election is above-board, there's nothing to hide, and every reason to want the adminiring eyes of all and sundry to see.

Right?

What exactly do these freepii think they need to hide?

GravatarSo the new meme will be:

UN Lover John Kerry Installed By UN.

Loverly.

GravatarI notice most of those posts are under pseudonyms.

Ummm...yeah, and your point is...?

Seriously, I've long since thought the true nature of the internet - and specifically, chat rooms, message boards, comments like this, etc. - is that it allows people's ids to run free. As our Freeper friends prove, this is what they really thing, but they're probably too gutless to say anything in public. It's just that same ol' macho posturing all-American bullshit that gets dumbass fratboys (redundent, I know) in fights on Saturday night because "He looked at my girlfriend".

They may believe what they say, but they don't have the intestinal fortitude to actually act on it. And, for what it's worth, the same goes for the left-wing variety who all but claim to be modern-day saints in their progressive actions/ideals. You know, the ones who claim some sort of liberal purity. It's easy to do so when there's no way to check.

GravatarBring it on!

GravatarSwift Vets devasting ad confirms Kerry's baldfaced lies.

http:// humaneventsonline.com.edg..._video_wmv.html

Teresa "SHOVE IT" Heinz Kerry lied about her activism against apartheid while in South Africa.

http://news.scotsman.com/interna...fm? id=909152004

They're both liars! Does the country want to go back to the Clinton Administration of Lies? - the most corrupt administration in American history.

GravatarThey also apparently can't distinguish between the French and French-Canadians... If you speak french, that is enough to be lumped into the same category of hating them, I guess.

GravatarIf the media were doing their job, they would point out that this is the culture where the author of Unfit for Action is coming from. They would do a big expose on it in some news magazine infotainment show. This is a big, big part of the so-called conservative movement that is largely hidden from Ma and Pa Kettle. The American people should know about them because sunlight is the best disinfectant.

GravatarAnd the deleting begins. Too late, "Well known hate group, Free Republic."

GravatarCould I possibly look any gayer than in this photo?

Where's Teresa? If she was here, she could classily tell these photographers to Shove It!

http://us.news1.yimg.com/ us.yimg...r3188950796.jpg

GravatarJohn Fonda Kerry wouldn't be lying about his name, would he?
Why Are We Back In Iraq?

GravatarThe most corrupt administration in history was Clinton?

Strange.. I seem to recall a fella named Nixon...

GravatarWonder how long it's going to take them to figure out they're not on the lookout for blue helmets, but yellow berets?

Then again - maybe they'll never figure it out, and just go home bewildered.

GravatarI saved the HTML and posted the tastier threats here:

http://bartcopnation.com/dc/ dcbo...topic_id=308468

GravatarJeepers, creepers
Didja see those freepers?

GravatarBlue helmets, yellow berets...I think I'll play it safe and just not wear any hat at all on election day if these wackos and their wives are running around polling places packin' heat.

Gravatar"Could I possibly look any gayer than in this photo?"

Why do you find football gay? Aside from the fact that it's a bunch of guys in tight pants jumping on top of other men in tight pants, that is....

But still! It's a great American game and you should be ashamed of yourself for hating it so!

GravatarRobert M. Jeffers--

The ones who don't grow up, end up asking "Do you want fries with that?"

Unfortunately, given today's economy that'll put them a step ahead of a lot of people.

GravatarOh my god, what complete barking maniacs....seriously disturbed group, there.

I only hope the discussions here don't come across that insane to any centrist types that wander by.

GravatarThis is a door opener. Next election they are going to have 100 observers, next one 250. Pretty soon the UN will come in and thats it for us. It is a disgrace that the representatives of the people would use their anger about 2000 as an excuse for what they really want anyway, one large government body to take care of us hapless sheeple. I know it isn't near that yet, but this is a serious step towards being subjected to the rule of a world body.

God, for all their violent, kill-em-all bluster, the Freeps are like a bunch of frightened lambs. 250 UN observers are just gonna storm the gates of 'murrica with hidden eyeball-lasers a-blaze!

If the wingnuts weren't so unstable and well-armed, they'd be the funniest thing since Jonathan Winters

GravatarThe Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe was invited to monitor the election by the State Department.

So does this mean that Bush invited the U.N. to monitor elections? Wow. It's like he actually cares about making sure we have a free and fair election this November.

Naaaaaaaah. He must be plotting something.

GravatarCurses! Those meddling kids at Free Republic are on to our plot! Now we can never create the New World Order!

GravatarWhat color hat do Freepers wear?

Ass.

Gravatar They're both liars! Does the country want to go back to the Clinton Administration?

Why yes! sign us up!

Then go fuck yourself.

GravatarThis sure makes me look like a prophet. I just said on the last thread that the freepers would start shooting and blowing up people before things in the US would change for the better. It took less than an hour to see evidence I was right.

GravatarA lot of Bush hating over there, Unless there are some of you atroses trolling....

Gravatar"Could I possibly look any gayer than in this photo?"

Kerry looks like a girlyman in that photo. That's all we need, a limpwristed girlyman when we are at war.

Of course, the idiot Dems (with the exception of Lieberman and Zell Miller) don't understand that we are at war.

GravatarThe only good freeper. . .

GravatarAh I am confused...

Is DB a troll or not?

GravatarThey're both liars! Does the country want to go back to the Clinton Administration of Lies? - the most corrupt administration in American history. - Some Troll

What, back when we had jobs? Yes, it probably does.

GravatarOh it's just the tiny-little-dick club over at the FR. About what you'd expect for a bunch of chubby teenagers and chronically underhung adults.

GravatarDid Corsi have anything to say?

GravatarTroll dipshit -

I wouldn't mind going back to having a president that preferred to keep a blowjob secret.

I'm kinda sick of the pious, fake-Christian douchbags getting our troops killed for no reason and shit.

GravatarFor those who follow the John Titor story: Does the current relationship between Arabs and Jews have anything to do with the coming war?

Real disruptions in world events begin with the destabilization of the West as a result of degrading US foreign policy and consistency. This becomes apparent around 2004 as civil unrest develops near the next presidential election. The Jewish population in Israel is not prepared for a true offensive war. They are prepared for the ultimate defense. Wavering western support for Israel is what gives Israel's neighbors the confidence to attack. The last resort for a defensive Israel and its offensive Arab neighbors is to use weapons of mass destruction. In the grand scheme of things, the war in the Middle East is a part of what's to come, not the cause.

Scared yet? That was written in 2000

GravatarThose clever Freepers - we just can't get anything by them! They've uncovered our nefarious plot to allow the UN to take over the US and institute our New World Order.

We've laid the ground work carefully! We've labeled the backs of all the speed limit signs with encrypted devices so the UN tanks will be able to navigate with ease. We have slowly, over the years, indoctrinated the children through the public school system. We've put fluoride in the drinking water and yellow fringe around the American flag. But, alas, the Freepers have been on to us at every turn!

Allowing the UN to come in and monitor the election is perfect! We'll finally be able to activate our master plan, declare an end to the United States, seize the means of production, disband the military, and collectivize agriculture (although big agri-business has done most of that work for us already).

Too bad Freepers! You better learn to sing the Internationale, in French! It'll soon be compulsory!

Bienvenue UN comrades! We've been waiting for you!

GravatarJohn Fonda Kerry-

At the risk of "Feeding" an obvious Troll. Just let me say, I read the link re: THK from Scotsman. Big Fucking Deal! She never claimed she was the "Ringleader"of some "radical" Anti-Apartheid group. She said she marched. The people in the article say she marched. Where is the lie?

If this is truly the best you can do, you guys are even more pathetic than I thought you were.

GravatarI also notice that there really don't seem to be that many Freepers. It looks like about five guys one-hand typing back and forth, occasionally turning on one of their own who fails to show sufficient wingedness. Like the traitor who dared to say "well, so what?"Probably already banned.

GravatarYou know what's amazing? these guys are so stupid that they don't have a clue how juvenile and retarded they sound.

It's unbelievable.

Gravatarklassy with a capitol "K"

GravatarJeebus, they can't even spell Tom Paine correctly. Must be because they're posting in the lulls when their oxycontin stops working.

I prefer to believe it's because they're illiterate dolts.

GravatarHahhahhahhahaahhahhaa

Dickless wimps with keyboards. It's no wonder that SWIFT found its roots at Freerepublic. Is Corsi posting on the thread?

Gravatarhmmm.. that probably should have been "capital", not "capitol"

GravatarSo the UN is gonna take over the U.S. with 100-250 troops? Holy shit, man. If they got guys that badass waiting in the wings, maybe we should let 'em.

And we're supposed to be the conspiracy nuts. Ye gods...

GravatarWow. I'd never been to Freeperland before. Ick.

Interesting that fully 2/3 didn't seem to understand that it wasn't the UN that has been invited to observe.

There also seemed to be at least one poster who thought that "observe the election" meant "watch him mark his ballot".

GravatarI only hope the discussions here don't come across that insane to any centrist types that wander by.

Nah. You guys might want to put your political enemies in prison (and gloat about the ensuing sodomization) but you don't threaten to shoot them on sight. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

BTW, why is date rape a terrible crime while prison rape is a joke? Just wondering.

GravatarSo easy to make threats in electronic comments, whether the threats are made here or over at Freeperville.

Oh, well, three more months and they'll all be crying at the bottom of the ashbin of history.

GravatarOh it's just the tiny-little-dick club over at the FR. About what you'd expect for a bunch of chubby teenagers and chronically underhung adults.
-Tena

There are aspects here I agree with you, but then you also need to watch a movie like "Mississippi Burning" again. Those civil rights workers were not killed by some Koresh-like cult. They were killed by 7-8 regular guys in small southern town. When these small-minded control freaks don't get their way, they regularly do go Postal.

GravatarI seem to recall a fella named Nixon...

Reagan and Harding much more corrupt.

GravatarBoy, those freepers are so tough, you'd think they would have jumped at the opportunity to go over to Afghanistan and Iraq and fight for Chicken George's oil. I can only speculate as to why they chose to stay home, sit on their fat asses, and type anonymous threats into their computers instead.

GravatarCould I possibly look any gayer than in this photo?

http://us.news1.yimg.com/ us.yimg...r3188950796.jpg
John Fonda Kerry

Not nearly as much as this guy:

http://www.wonkette.com/archives...girl- 018745.php

GravatarOnly the second time I visited the site. Don't think I'll go for a third. I read an article the other day that said that 14, almost, 15% of the population here is walking around with what would qualify as a mental disorder. Guess I know know where those in that group who browse the blogs hang out.

Gravataragreed with holden. we don't have registration here, so one never really knows who is posting what, but when you read something like the freeper post it should remind you that threats of violence, direct or implied, do not reflect well on you or the wider community here.

GravatarI want this group of faux-macho "tough guys" to know that we are not afraid of them and their threats. Maybe we would have been intimidated in the past; but those days are over. We are going to continue to expose their craziness and stupidity and let the American people decide about responsibility and citizenship.

If they choose them, God help us all!
I don't believe that they will.

GravatarFunny these ppl laugh at freepers, yet find nothing wrong with Ketchup's weblog having a link to The Democratic Underground, a place full of delusional deranged insane liberals.

Gravatar"I also notice that there really don't seem to be that many Freepers. It looks like about five guys one-hand typing back and forth, occasionally turning on one of their own who fails to show sufficient wingedness. Like the traitor who dared to say "well, so what?"Probably already banned."
-cory

I wish you were accurate, but unfortunately you're not. There's a lot of hate-filled bigots in this country. There's a reason that "swarming" some internet resource with massive amounts of right wing crap got nicknamed "freeping." There's a shit-load of these bile-spewing bigots all over the net.

GravatarBig surprise that Kerry throws a football with a limp wrist. What did you expect from a guy who wears a bunnysuit?

The guy is utterly pathetic. However, I am enjoying watching his campaign implode. Pure comedy gold.

GravatarBTW, why is date rape a terrible crime while prison rape is a joke? Just wondering.
ewq | Email | Homepage | 08.08.04 - 10:55 pm | #

Actually, a rape comitted by a prisoner on a fellow prisoner does carry a rather heafty punishment, if caught and prosecuted. Problem is, most prisons are run so shittily that it's almost an unspoken agreement between guards, officials and prisoners to look the other way.

As for the joke aspect of it, I think it's used in a such a way that attempts to question the "manliness" of opponents, usually Rightists who view "being a real man" as one of life's highest goals. How do you truly break a "real man" - the imagined uber-macho kind, not an actual male comfortable and confident in himself and his sexuality? You emasculate him. How do you best emasculate him? Rape him, because while he may not admit it, he knows rape is't a sexual act, it's a positioning of power and dominence. He knows if he's raped, he'll be "less a man", both sexually and in the pecking order. In addition, since most frothing Rightists seem to be white, the idea that it's a black guy doing the raping is so much sweeter. It's regrettable, but not for lack of evidence, the common perception of a "prisoner" in America is of a black male.

Still, between you and me, I dislike the "prison rape" jokes. It not only demeans the impact date rape and other forms of sexual violence against women, it demeans what people in prison have to go through since our society is frankly too lazy to do anything against crime that has any real impact. Just slapping 'em in a cell is much easier, since outta sight, outta mind.

GravatarWow! Forget the smelling salts, that was an eye opener. Where do they get all that anger and hatred? They didn't have an election stolen from right under their noses. It's frightening to think these people have the legal right to own handguns. By the looks of the posts there, what I could stomach that is, most of them didn't even read(or comprehend) the entire piece.

Gravatar"occasionally turning on one of their own who fails to show sufficient wingedness" -cory

This is something I have seen just about every time I have put my foot in freeper and lgfville. They are vicious when someone veers slighly out of line-astonishing. After reading the entire Corrie thread at LGF idiot awards
last year, I try to steer clear. [shudders]

GravatarDesperation is all it is. I got 2 pictures emailed to me by a conservative friend-- one of GWB with football and one of JFK fumbling. Something like who do you trust to be president.

I guess the Wicked Witch somewhere sent her monkeys out today to screech about football.

This is some high discourse folks.

GravatarGreat. Now my computer smells like ass.

GravatarRemember: these are the people who celebrate diversity, Glenn Reynolds-style.

Welcome to the Timothy McVeigh Republic.

Gravatarwouldn't it be nice to inform elderly and middle aged bush supporters who is on their side.

GravatarI could understand the ideas there, if A/ There were any ideas there, B/ they could spell...

I don't think they are all kids and I think they WILL KILL if provoked.

This sort of hate-speak is taught and learned. No-one from a loving family arrives at that sense of ignorant nationalist violent Amero-centricity without being whipped to it, either by ideology + Media, or just media. From the most vicious comments, one can see that the republican talking points have seriously stuck .Ingrained.
Tell them what you want them to believe, so long as what it is you think they want, and what people always want is to believe that we are better than them.

The tone of this site reminds me of the paramilitary psycho right depicted in JFK...and Mississippi Burning ....and until now I had put that all down to Dramatic effect, never dreaming that those cartoonish extremists were a real living force in the world ...at least not in 2004...

But there are towns in the US that have voted themselves out of any UN program , so strongly do they hate the will of the rest of world .

GravatarInteresting... one of these people says: "We need poll watchers at every polling place and ways of tracking these 'poll hoppers'. We catch them, we punish them, citizens arrest at the very least. Mobilize or lose. We have 90 days to wake up, the 'rats have been planning for four years."

Anybody have any idea what he's talking about? Apparently the Democratic Party has forgotten to let me in on the whole "poll hopping" plan that they've been planning for four years.

GravatarI love the way they can't tell the difference between the UN and the OSCE...

Gravatarfreepers no get turkee.

GravatarTsali: No.

http://www.livejournal.com/commu...axes/ 90359.html

GravatarI love the way they can't tell the difference between the UN and the OSCE...

I think wingnuts would say, "What's diffurnse? Thur all furriners!"

GravatarThese people are out of their freaking minds. Their comments are driven by blind emotion. Not one of these assholes has any ability to think on a critical level. Their rethoric is so violent that I afraid they will soon start shooting those that don't agree with them. Their "love" for America is so twisted it's scary. It's Nazi scary

I thank God each and everyday that I'm a liberal. But I may loose my right and my life if these goons have their way.

GravatarHowever, I am enjoying watching his campaign implode.

Sigh. Another retarded comment by another too stupid to live troll.

Perhaps you should check this out...

Big fucking crowds!!

And then prepare your crying kit for November 3.

Gravatar"Funny these ppl laugh at freepers, yet find nothing wrong with Ketchup's weblog having a link to The Democratic Underground, a place full of delusional deranged insane liberals."
VRWC

I'm no fan of DU. The owners a little too unstable for my tastes, and has turned the site into too much of a David Allen fan club. That said, DU has maybe 1/2 of 1 percent of the problems that freerepublic does. Violence aganst those who disagree and bigotry are held up as positive values at freerepublic.com.

GravatarFr33p3rz r skeeeeered.

It's not just that Chimpy's going down. The Fr33p3r wing of the Republican party is going down with him. Any Republicans with spine after November will purge them like an enema.

GravatarYeah, these guys project a lot.

Maybe we should be tracking Freeper poll hoppers.

Do they wear bunny suits?

GravatarAnother thing: Several of them seem to have concluded that "election observer" means "guy who looks behind the curtain and watches who you vote for".

If these people weren't a combination of saddening and scary, they'd be funny.

GravatarThank god for the internet and legible fonts. Can you imagine reading the freeper comments in the original handwritten crayon?

GravatarYes, they are small men with smaller penises in sore need of a diversion.

They are obsessed with blue helmets ...sort of Viagra blue, don't you think?

Gravatar"However, I am enjoying watching his campaign implode.

Sigh. Another retarded comment by another too stupid to live troll.

Perhaps you should check this out...
"

No no no no....let them think all is well, W is safe, Kerry is "imploding." A false sense of security would be one of the best possible gifts for the GOP on election day.

GravatarDoes long underwear qualify as a bunnysuit?

GravatarWow. Jon Stewart quotes Peter Cook on CNBC.

My respect for him was maxed out before, but it's just gone off the scale.

Gravatar... and they post to this picture stating: "Wonder if they'll be wearing blue helmets?"

... salt of the earth... real 'mericans... morons.

GravatarNo-one from a loving family arrives at that sense of ignorant nationalist violent Amero-centricity without being whipped to it...

Sorry, but I beg to differ. I have a winger in my very own family... my older brother proudly describes himself as a "NASCAR Dad"- he loves GW, thinks Kerry is a pussy-whipped frenchie, thinks mexicans are trying to take over the state of Texas, and truly believes that the Clintons actually did murder a bunch of people.

No one whipped him into it- he arrived at this state of retardation all on his own.

GravatarJohnny Vagabond said :

"Can you imagine reading the freeper comments in the original handwritten crayon?"

Frankly, I would never have time since I don't spend that much time in Public restrooms.

Gravataragreed with holden. we don't have registration here, so one never really knows who is posting what, but when you read something like the freeper post it should remind you that threats of violence, direct or implied, do not reflect well on you or the wider community here.

Atrios, that's an argument for registration.

We've already seen planted comments here, during the convention. Sure, they were easy to pick up, 'cuz the planters were dumb, but still...

You trust others to post on the main page. Surely you can find a couple of people you can trust to moderate the comments section.

I dunno. I've always been against registration, but lately I've been getting bummed at the number of ruined threads.

Anyway.

GravatarDubya just lost a freeper!

http://www.freerepublic.com/focu...ts? page=184#184

Ah, the sweet smell of freeper brain frying...it's a good thing!

GravatarSorry, but I beg to differ.

-fourlegsgood

Wrong. This type of extremism stays isolate in society unless there is a source that provides reinforcement to it. Faux and the right wing media are to blame for all this mass extremism.

Gravataranonymous in nc

It does seem that Dean is canonizing Stewart. This interview is hilarious simply on realizing that the class clown is suddenly the Murrow of the day.

GravatarI agree, it's pretty entertaining as Freeper threads go. But it's also pretty typical of Freeper threads lately, and that's somewhat encouraging. Note the ebb and flow of the posts:

First: *(%&^! DemoRATS! I'll kill every blue-helmeted one of them!

Second: Oops, Bush's State Dept. approved this. Libertarian-leaning Freepers promptly form a circular firing squad.

Third: Internecine flame war erupts.

GravatarAnybody have any idea what he's talking about? Apparently the Democratic Party has forgotten to let me in on the whole "poll hopping" plan that they've been planning for four years.

Ssssshhhh!!!

You must have been out of the loop. It was all discussed at atrios.blogspot.com/elite.

GravatarI've always been against registration, but lately I've been getting bummed at the number of ruined threads.
Thersites

Then why do you ruin threads by attacking people rather than discuss ideas, even if they are unconventional by your standards?

Something about practice and preaching comes to mind.

GravatarMy love of Peter Cook is outdone only by Sven From Swiss Cottage.

GravatarStill, between you and me, I dislike the "prison rape" jokes.

I agree entirely.

It's pretty sick that we have sort of tacitly accepted the fact that rape will be one of the penalties for breaking the law in the United States. And we think it's funny.

If we're going to maintain this situation, we should tell people when they are convicted that they will be sexually violated, as part of their sentence. Or else we should really do something to end prison rape.

The sicko argument that because what happened at Abu Ghraib happens all the time in American prisons doesn't excuse AG, and it doesn't fucking excuse what happens in this country.

GravatarWhen they said that the freepers had 'turned the corner,' they weren't kidding.

Those blue helmets scare them. It's either the Oxycontin flashbacks, or bad experiences from blue-boobed moms.

Don't make the freepers cry, atrios. They haven't had their nap.

--

GravatarI think the Freepers are cute.

Sort of like a zoo, where you keep the monkeys (ahem) in a cage so they can throw poop at each other.

Man, if you read that stuff, it's clear that they have been infiltrated by liberals who whip them into frothing rages with ease.

Anger, so easy to control the simple with.

Gravatar>It does seem that Dean is canonizing Stewart.

Well, Stewart did save my sanity. So that is one miracle.

>This interview is hilarious simply on realizing that the class clown is suddenly the Murrow of the day

Well, Stewart is the Murrow of his day.

GravatarI dunno. I've always been against registration, but lately I've been getting bummed at the number of ruined threads.

I'm right there with ya, Thersites.

And DB? go play on the freeway. You wish you had a ounce of the education and brains of Thersites.

Hell, you make my cat look like a Nobel prize winning physicist.

GravatarAs for wishing violence or making threats against freepi or other lower forms of life...

I'm against doing that. However, it wouldn't break my heart if god wanted to step in with a well timed lightning bolt.

Is that so wrong?

GravatarI second (third?) the registration idea.

GravatarAnother ringing endorsement for Kerry.

http://communistsforkerry.com/

North Korea, Iran, France and now the communists.

GravatarRegistration only makes sense.

Gravatarbannedman, you miss my point. Of course the fauxs of the world contribute to it. The original observation is that this kind of hate starts in childhood or something. I'm just saying that my brother and my completely different political views have nothing to do with our upbringing.

There's no question that some wackos learn it from their parents, but I don't think it accounts for all of it.

GravatarDoes the country want to go back to the Clinton Administration of Lies?

Let's see -- lies about blowjobs compared to Bush and his flying monkeys lying from sun up to sun up. If a Dubya drone told me the sky was blue, I'd have to go out and check it myself. And it would probably be night.

Hell yeah, fire up the freakin' wayback machine and get outta my way, asshole.

GravatarStewart's line that 'there has to be journalistic integrity in fake news' is actually pretty damn profound.

It's like what people have said about the difference between, say, Bob Traitor Novak and Michael Moore. One can lie with impunity, the other has to be holier than Jesus. And TDS has to be 'proper fake news' -- a kind of antimatter journalism -- to be so effective.

GravatarHell, you make my cat look like a Nobel prize winning physicist.
fourlegsgood

Ahem, that is an insult to my nobel prize winning cat Ptolemy (genetics). He is making me post this cause he'e a little upset.....

GravatarTo: Darkwolf377
So you think we should ALLOW foreigners to DICTATE and MONITOR our elections like a third rate country?

The "sunshine patriots" are now exposed.

MUAHAHAAH IT's THOMAS PAINE. FuCKSTICK FREEPER MORONS.

That site is low. And the Swift Boat Freepers for Smears are tied to them.

GravatarIt's likely that the majority of Freepers threatening violence are all talk. Chances are that anyone who was actually planning an act of violence would not announce it on some forum, "anonymous" or not.

Nonetheless, it's true that the right-wing includes some very violent elements, and more elements that give tacit support to that approach.

One thing that most clearly distinguishes the left-wing from the right-wing is that many right-wingers think it is perfectly all right to threaten, physically assault, or murder people who disagree with you. There are violent left-wingers, but as groups there is really no comparison between the two in this regard.

Leftists believe in democracy. Conservatives do not.

GravatarThe trolling is going to be real bad between now and the election, and it will be intolerable by October.

Registration will be a necessary evil.

Gravatar"I don't think they are all kids and I think they WILL KILL if provoked."

Ridiculous. Cowards to the man.

The asskissing fascists are the weakest sots in the bunch. Just ask Eichmann. The wannabes have to be purged just as much or more, because they are cowards.

Like Keystone Kops, but in a healing crisis, a group of pathetic retards with unresolved Oedipal anxieties.

We see the VERY FEW assholes this press has generated, from time to time. It is 500:1, it is a rank minority, and they know it. But cool Joseph Stalin coffee mugs, you guys. Your gear page is super.

--

GravatarVRWC,

You are scared shitless, so the only way you feel any power is to come here and rag on Kerry, but you can't argue policy or hold a civil debate. Hell, you can't even defend your boy Bush. I'll bet you have no clue what Bush has accomplished or what he will do with a second term, except for more deficits, cronyism, and tax breaks for rich folks.

Gravatarhttp://communistsforkerry.com/

Boy, you guys are so dense, you can't even recognize what passes for parody on the right wing.

Sounds like the letters section of Landover Baptist.

GravatarMakes you wonder what the deleted comments were like. I wouldn't be too worried. Freepers are just loud mouth pussies.

Gravatar"Registration will be a necessary evil.--bannedmann"

Hysteria spreading seems to be your thing.

The same rules apply: ignore trolls. To let a pathetic bunch of cowards ruin things is unnecessary, though it might be necessary to ban quite a few outright spammers. Otherwise, big deal, some idiots without a clue. It ain't illegal to be stupid in America.

--

GravatarWith a heavy heart, I do think registration is the way to go. It's only a matter of time before some paid troll posts something that's likely to send the Secret Service to Atrios's door.

It's August now. By October, the GOPeratives will be really, truly desparate, and Haloscan will look like Afghanistan.

(No threads, though. Threads kill the flow that we have here. Something like the Metafilter engine would be good.)

Gravatar"bannedman, you miss my point. Of course the fauxs of the world contribute to it. The original observation is that this kind of hate starts in childhood or something. I'm just saying that my brother and my completely different political views have nothing to do with our upbringing.

There's no question that some wackos learn it from their parents, but I don't think it accounts for all of it."
-fourlegsgood

A large part of who is consevative and who is liberal goes down to simply who believes it's okay to bully and manipulate people, and who think such behavior is wrong. That emerges at an early age and is really a facit of one's individual personality.

GravatarI second (third?) the registration idea.

I almost emailed atrios today to suggest this. It's almost like baby-sitting here. I don't mind differing points of view, but these trolls aren't adding anything that isn't shot down in two seconds flat. Much of what they say is truly laughable. One guy yesterday referenced "historian Oliver North" for some BS on Kerry. I almost fell out of my chair! And some jamoke today claims Kerry's campaign is imploding. Hello! If this isn't denial, I don't know what is.

I'm perfectly capable and willing to ignore them, but it seems others aren't.

Gravatar>>Boy, you guys are so dense, you can't even recognize what passes for parody on the right wing.

Gravatarthey'd be the funniest thing since Jonathan Winters

Johnathan Winters was a little unstable too, but he did not carry a concealed weapon that I know of.

GravatarI meant to add that it's the tolerance of the exhibition of extreme behavior that Faux and the right wing media are to blame for. If behavior is approved of, it's displayed. If behavior is disapproved of, it's kept under wraps.

Gravatarfourlegsgood

What about a lightening bolt of Insight?

I tend to be a pacifist wimp unless seriously provoked then things get a bit gnarly. Until then I prefer a less violent approach.

GravatarRegistration doesn't stop trolling. Getting a throwaway account is trivial.

Hell, I'm trolling freepers right now.

GravatarI once squandered a rainy morning browsing the freeper homeland. There seemed to be about 5 posters churning things and couple dozen who pumped out sub-moronic reactionary comments. Every now and then some poster would actually make what appeared to be a valid point. Seeing such comments in the virtual hellbroth that is freerepublic is very jarring...

Gravatar"This was brought about by 13 traitors in our government. How many more of these despicable traitors are there?"
Obviously, the entire government are traitors since this is happening.

GravatarThey're the same kind of harmless, "freedom loving" patriots that brought us the Oklahoma City bombing.

GravatarTo let a pathetic bunch of cowards ruin things is unnecessary,

How would registration ruin things. It's still up to Atrios as to whether or not he wants to ban someone. As it is now. The difference is that it stops the name-stealing and the posting under different alias's.

Gravatarfourlegsgood:

GravatarRegistration doesn't stop trolling.

I refuse to have more assholes take away yet another freedom.

GravatarSo the UN is gonna take over the U.S. with 100-250 troops? Holy shit, man. If they got guys that badass waiting in the wings, maybe we should let 'em.

That's because the Freepers know that Bush is going to commit every single last troop to Iraq, Iran, and North Korea; they're afraid, very afraid that the homefront will be unguarded.

Gravatarall registration does is protect posters by allowing them to use a password to post.

I don't see the problem.

GravatarPoor geebus.

The ASPCA has caught on to what he's been doing to gerbils, so he hasn't been able to find one. (and all of the local Emergency Rooms have banned him now)

Never fear. I hear Zhorik may be having another recruiting drive soon. In the meantime, maybe you can find a proctologist who would be willing to give you monthly sigmoidoscopies. Sorry about your seat-less bike getting stolen, btw--

Gravatarat some point I'll switch to registration, but I'll never switch to active moderation. It just isn't worth it.

GravatarAw, freepers revoked my posting priveleges already. Just because I belligerently asked someone what they were packing, I guess.

Gravatar4legs,

frankly, I'm tired of this shit. Look at DB. Here he is saying the same thing, carrying over the same fight, on like the 8th straight thread. Well, he largely missed the last one, but only because I and a few others were trolling him.

Adam 4-4-2, I disagree with on some things; I like his posts. Kei & Yuri, I disagree with, sometimes, so what. Albert Champion, a bit of a loon, but generally OK, no problem. David Patterson, hell, let him post. He's a goofy assed freak; too bad he doesn't know it. Heck, even let Toby P post. He's just a random nut, and we can handle those.

Name stealers? Delete the posts, ban as you can. Obsessional loons who say the same thing in five threads? Ban them. Self-righteous anarcho-gits? Ban them.

Dunno. Seems like the site can take this step and not really lose anything. Frankly, I think we'd get more posts from peole who are good & kind & nice but won't post now because of the troll-related schrapnel.

Atrios could get volunteers to moderate who are trusted by the community. And he could also get us to pay any possible costs.

Just think it's worth discussing.

GravatarSeen this one?
http://www.canadiansforkerry.net/

I loved the subheading.

Had a read of that freeper thread. What a bunch of mental cripples. If it wasn't after midnight and I wasn't so tired I'd go over there and stir the pot a bit. It would be fun knowing that you could trigger someone's anurism to rupture.

Gravatar"Reagan and Harding much more corrupt."
Not to mention U.S. Grant..

GravatarLook, Free Republic is a right wing joint. We can expect way out right wing nonsense over there.

Mostly they are harmless coots, about as dangerous as a big loud fart.

That they live in an isolated sort of "Bizarro World" is more a testement to social isolation and A general lack of dateing. Alienation from society has inspired several Freepy type moralists and jeremiahs in our society through the years. Jimmy "widda' hairy butt!" Swaggert, Jerry Falwell, Father Coughlin, MacCarren, McCarthy, Larry "Ronald" McDonald" and a litany of other fools, fiends, and gasbags that make up the fringe of the American right Wing. Believe it or not, Barry Goldwater used to hold his nose when mention of arch extremeists was made. Barry believed in Conservatism, not insane rqamblings of isolated little men, who feel powerless in a society they themselves have cut out of their lives.

Face it, you arn't going to make it with most girls if you blubber away about Kerry, Bush, or the glory of Ann, (or is it Andy?) Coulter. So, Free Republic is a good place for these characters to go and have some company.

AND, to the poster who complained that Democratic Underground was as bad as Free Republic, I say, "I think you will find few sites that are more fun, more interesting, and have nicer people than D.U.

Free Republic is a snotty, gloomy, morose little corner a darkened basement compared to Democratic Underground.

Logic? Fundy Christians and logic are mutually exclusive. I have a 1st cousin that went fundy Christian. I can't tell you the untold hours that have gone into trying to get her away from the Pentacostals that have brain-washed her. It's pointless. The only thing my uncle was successful at doing was keeping her kids in Public School. She tried to pull them out of school and pull that home school bullshit, and my uncle told her if they weren't back in school the next day, she was disinherited. That got through. That's been the only success, though.

GravatarUnifying characteristics of the Freeper post are one or more of the following:
1. poor spelling (and not just "teh" usual typos committed during fast typing)
2. ALL CAPS formatting
3. strange grammar
4. some reference to violence

GravatarVWRC-

Bush deserted.

Shut the fuck up about what you think Kerry did.

Bush Deserted.

He didn't show up. For months. He didn't take a mandatory medical exam.

The records he grudgingly partially released prove it. He has never explained it.

Shut the fuck up.

Kerry was awarded those medals. You can't just open up the Sears Wish Book of US Army Medals and order them.

Bush was AWOL. Deserted. Off the Reservation.

Shut the Fuck Up.

GravatarOrville, next time you post over there, copy it so we can see it here when they pull it!

GravatarI have this far-fetched thought that dicklicks like Petzold and VRWC are really pre-programmed blips from a small mainframe in some non-descript office park in McLean, Virginia owned by a company with a non-descript name like Consulting Associates or The JS Group. Some fat-turds Republican slimeballs go there each morning and program it with the latest insults and dick-rubbing innuendo from the depths of their collective stunted imaginations.

GravatarThanks again VRWC for reminding us what sort of low-lifes we are up against.

GravatarOh, I forgot characteristic #5.

Use of derogatory language regarding sexuality, excessive swearing, and an obsession with excrement.

GravatarDoh! stupid haloscan repeating my post. anyway, mh, I don't believe Titor's story complete. It is ineresting though, mostly from years of repeatedly watching Back to the future, but also for its implications. One subtle I believe he implied was that the rural people weren't the ones we see today playing soldier and blowing up federal buildings but a wide range of people from many different backgrounds. All you have to do is look at his writing style and tell he isn't one of those "Praise the lord and pass the ammuniton" freaks. He speaks of the civil war doing a lot to heal race relations and "it doesn't matter what the color of your skin is when you are fighting the same enemy". Could you imagine your average alabama militia member saying something like that? I'm not defensive though, its just fantasy. But what isn't now-a-days?

GravatarDoes anyone like this idea? Do you want international "monitors" for US elections?

Places like Haiti, Venezuela and Iraq need monitors. It trivializes election observers if our government is requesting them for the US.

Gravatarthe Murrow of the day

When the government and the meedia are full of clowns, it takes a comedian to accurately report the news.

GravatarAtrios, it's me, Jenny, way down here in the thread... registration PLEASE!
*

GravatarSorry for the double post.

And seventeen minutes apart! I have no explanation for that.

Gravatarat some point I'll switch to registration, but I'll never switch to active moderation. It just isn't worth it.

I hear you. The drawbacks are obvious.

What about delegating moderation tasks, though? You wouldn't have to do it yourself. If you trust other people to post to the main page when you're away, you could trust someone or someones to keep the trolls down, maybe. At least delegating someone to be able to delete obvious spam would be an improvement.

Anyhoo.

No complaints, by the way, Atrios. It's your deal. I'm just saying.

GravatarI don't think it's 'trivial' that people were disenfrachised in the last presidential election, and I for one would be very please to see outside observation.

Gravataryeah, I will eventually.

haloscan and blogger, for all their flaws, have their advantages from a host/moderator point of view. transitioning to new systems could be an improvement, but there will be a nontrivial bumpy period...

and, i'm busy/lazy..

GravatarThere's no question that some wackos learn it from their parents, but I don't think it accounts for all of it.

And some learn from their co-workers and friends...depends on where you move to.

Gravatarfour legsgood :Point taken , but I think I was going farther than that , the NASCAR dad ( myth , TM BUSHCO) isn't so likely to arm at the sight of a blue beret ; possibly / definitely to defend hearth and home but not at the hint of an international observer .These guys are the stereotype Idiot Extremist.
My older brother also, once an artsy lefty, moved to the country and actually adopted some very twisted agrarian/ Freemen/ Ultra-Libertarian anti-government/ 'you burned out guilt ridden liberals...' stuff and actually spouts some ugly rhetoric, but I always thought it was the roll playing of a simple mind, a sort of emulating mimicry of his demented perception that Mac Trucks = SSgt. Barnes...

I guess I always thought that could be cured with rest and exercise, but again, I see your drift.

( PS all , I am actually mildly dyslexic, and I do try and spell check everything , but if you see something really off , it is because I wanted to say it before Hecate and didn't run it through before posting )

GravatarVRWC cried thusly:
... when America is turned into a communist society ...

Calm down, nobody's going to turn America into a communist country. See, we Democrats like capitalism. And we love this country. We want America to be the best it can be. And that involves true capitalism, not this corporate welfare and cronyism that's been going on. See, Bush and Cheney just gave away 200 billion dollars to Halliburton and other cronies. That's money that will be paid for by our tax dollars. And he ran up the federal deficit to $500 billion. Does that look like a good capitalist to you? I bet he sucks at the game of Monopoly, too.

I know it's hard to admit you've been lied to by people you thought were your friends, but that's the way it is.

GravatarI love smoking Marxist trouser sausage and I'd bend over and take it up my scab-encrusted ass for Kerry & Edwards.

Gravatarbannedmann

Note the "Correct thinking people".

Whenever I hear something like that my skin crawls. Even if he is doing it for the hell of it, that has an implication that is pretty damn dark.

GravatarI'm not worried about those weenies at the cesspool of Frei Republik.

They're cowards, and they're not that bright. If any of them ever actually grew a pair and tried to start something (not likely), it's unlikely they'd have the raw brain power to actually go through with it.

Gravatarpixie: How do you qualify your disenfranchisement to observer ratio?

In other words, are you not satisfied until there are stastically ZERO disenfranchised voters? All in all, perfection?

Gravatarman, what must have happened to these wingnuts to post shit like what i just read from VRWC or whatever his name is.

it's very sad.

i wonder: does this man / woman have children? does he impart this kind of vitriol to them?

i have an acquaintance who is a marginal freeper type; he fancies himself the live-off-the-land personality, teaching his 4 year old son to hunt, for example, and how to handle a gun (4 years old, bear in mind). also afraid of minorities of any flavor, and "libruls" in general.

we used to share things in common but his vitriol and hatred for those not like him pushed me away. i feel a sadness and a sense of loss, because you feel there MUST be some kind of way to reach taht person, to help them see the light, etc.

but in the end, they don't want to be reached out to -- they want to have their beliefs reinforced, not challenged. i don't think there's any doubt that most of these people are typically less educated, less worldly (apart from stints peeling potatoes or chipping paint on some navy ship in norfolk, va), and in general, more rural or vapidly suburban.

to me, they're all like o'reilly: narcissistic personality disorders just waiting to be diagnosed and treated.

i fear there's a whole lost generation of these people that we'll have to contend with in the coming years. hopefully their kids will, like most successive generations, reject their freeper ways as "old school"....

time will tell. but it is sad, truly.

GravatarFunny spoof.

That must have taken alot of work.

GravatarBrennan -There is nothing trivial about tens of thousands of people being disenfranchised. The Black Caucus is dead serious about this, and I agree.

GravatarAs one falsely accused of Thersites of being a troll, I find his application for guard duty highly suspect.

I might change my opinion were he to give up his attacks on those who differ from him.

But I don't hold out hope for his reform.

It's like the fox applying for coop duty.

GravatarSorry for the double post.

Haloscan exists in another dimension, beyond sight and sound.(/RodSerlingvoice)

GravatarParaphrasing de Gaulle on Churchill, when we're right, we get angry. They get angry when they're wrong. We are angry at each other much of the time.

Which reminds me, DB, on the off-chance that you're sincere and not simply trolling, as the number of irritated posters who suggest that you're not as clever or rational or persuasive as you seem to think you are grows, it might be in your interest to reexamine your interpretation of their comments. It's always possible that everyone else is wrong and you're right; it's also possible (and more probable) that they know something about you about which you are unaware. Just a thought.

GravatarTo Mark Golden:

there are parts of both the left and the right that worry me.

Midnight Sun, Sword of the Lord, and a whole cracked pot full of "odd bodkins" lurks out there, on the loose. Freepers are highly visible. Liberal Forum types are highly visible.

As recent events in Texas have shown us, the potential for disaster from domestic homegrown terrorism is as close as your nearest right wing/left wing nutball neighbor.

GravatarFinally, and that means feel free to discuss me while I'm gone, I thank Atrios for not banning me, as I'm sure he's repeatedly been asked, and I also thank those courageous enough to acknowledge their agreement with some of my opinions despite the invective I've been subject to.

Good night, all.

GravatarKarin: You realize the hypocrasy of the Black Caucus being serious about election observers? Perhaps you were not aware but the CBC was a big part of the election monitoring in Haiti. Members like Corrine Brown and Maxine Waters were in Haiti for the election. Punchline: the election was one of the worst in Haiti's history. Corruption, violence, observers part of the corruption; the CBC is all knowing.

Wait, they're "dead" serious? Sounds like the CBC's M O.

GravatarHistory
The organization was established in 1973 as the Conference for Security and Co-operation in Europe (CSCE). Talks had been mooted about a European security grouping since the 1950s but the Cold War prevented any substantial progress until the talks at Dipoli in Helsinki began in November 1972. The recommendations of the talks, "The Blue Book", gave the practical foundations for a three-stage conference, the Helsinki process. The CSCE opened in Helsinki on July 3, 1973 with 35 states sending representatives. Stage I only took five days to agree to follow the Blue Book. Stage II was the main working phase and was conducted in Geneva from September 18, 1973 until July 21, 1975. the result of Stage II was the Helsinki Final Act which was signed by the 35 particpating nations during Stage III, which took place in Helsinki from July 30 to August 1, 1975.

The concepts of improving relations and implementing the Act were developed over a series of follow-up meeting, with major gatherings in Belgrade (October 4, 1977 - March 8, 197, Madrid (November 11, 1980 - September 9, 1983), andVienna (November 4, 1986 - January 19, 1989).

The collapse of Communism required a change of role for the CSCE. The Paris Charter for a New Europe which was signed on November 21, 1990 marked the beginning of this change. With the changes capped by the re-naming of the CSCE to the OSCE on January 1, 1995.

President George HW Bush signed the Paris Charter. President Ford signed the Helsinki Final Act

as i said to a freind, there are people like amy goodman and there are people like donald rumsfeld, and they aren't ever going to get along. that said, there is a real divisivness running though this culture, in my mind, since reagan. osama bin laden, and bush with there actions and policies have sought to exacerbate this divide. they need divisiveness, we don't.

but that place,(free republic) is kind of scary and considering the o'reilly thread and the entrenchment of idiocy in the mainstream i don't know how lightly it should be taken. when kerry is president he should take measures to reform the media, which fuels this nonsense. on the other hand if bush is reselected hang onto your left hand window grip 'cause there will be hard right turn com'n up. turning the corner indeed.

Yeah, tell me about it. This is going to go down far worse than when Nixon went down in flames. It's going to be ugly, and it going to be ugly for a very long time.

GravatarAs for registration- really I don't care about the trolls or even the idiots who name steal- it's just that there are days when I'm too busy to wade through their crap so I just don't bother. - fourlegsgood

Agreed. Sometimes the timewasting aspect of the trolls outweighs their entertainment value.

GravatarThey're both liars! Does the country want to go back to the Clinton Administration of Lies? - the most corrupt administration in American history.

Yes, yes, in fact, we do.

Would this coming January be all right with you? (We'll take our chances with all those lies and all that corruption).

Gravatarfourlegs, what I wondered when I read that comment was exactly what distinguished a hippie phallus from other types?

Please don't tell me. The more I think about it the less I actually want to know.

A.

Gravatar"The U.S. is obliged to invite us, as all OSCE countries should," spokeswoman Urdur Gunnarsdottir said. "It's not legally binding, but it's a political commitment. They signed a document 10 years ago to ask OSCE to observe elections."

So, the State Department is doing this because we are going to honor treaty! This is a first for the Bush administration. Expect Colin Powell to be overruled within 10 days.

Gravatar"Correct thinking people"...

also know as consumers of mass quantities of kool-aid an/or religion.

Jim in La, I think your diagnosis is spot on. My brother has turned into a loon. He still insists that the Clintons sold their new york home back to investors at twice the market value the day after Hillary won election to the senate.

Never mind that the big dog lives in the fucking place.

Gravatarhmmm, I'm guessing we now have a better idea of why colin powell's not going to be at the republican convention.

One way or another, Powell is so outa this administration come January. He has zero motivation to show up at the convention.

Those assholes would probably charge him $5000.00 to get in.

Gravatarwell, and for all you freepers out there, here is an article you should enjoy from a certifiably liberal newspaper and journalist.

hell, i should have cited syd the other evening as one of those notable investigative journalists.

this one will puzzle you. maybe not.

GravatarI was at the KC Kerry appearance. There was a group of "Students for Bush" there and I got right into their faces. What I saw in their eyes was exactly what I expected to see there. These chickenhawks should more correctly call themselves "Pussies for Bush." There's a reason these rich little shits are over here and not "fighting for freedom" in Iraq. They are, despite their big talk, miniatures of Bush-- pathetic little chickenhawks who've had to work for nothing and who are content to let others (primarily poor minorities) do their fighting for them. I was so wanting one of these little jackoffs to take a swing at me . . .

"Better decide which side you're on, the shit goes down before too long . . ." -- Tom Robinson

Gravatar"fourlegs, what I wondered when I read that comment was exactly what distinguished a hippie phallus from other types?"
-Athenae

The peace sign on the end of the phallus piercing, of course.

GravatarTough talk from the lower primates. One of my favorite comments was the bit about how "libs" are the ones peeking into peoples' bedrooms to govern their behavior.

GravatarBrennan logic:
Members like Corrine Brown and Maxine Waters were in Haiti for the election.
The election was one of the worst in Haiti's history.
Ergo: the election violence was caused by the CBC
Ah yes-and they were the ones to kidnap Aristide and overthrow the elected government too. I think I've got it, now.

Gravatarpixie: Yes. When I say "voters" I mean everyone except black people.

/puts down the fool aid

Back to reality, if such a world can exist inside Eschaton. "Voters" includes individuals whom hold the right to vote and choose to do so on election day. And I say this as a disenfranchised voter myself. And, shh shh, keep this quiet. A black man, Democrat, did it(Sec of State Jesse White Illinois).

GravatarThread's been pulled.

GravatarVRWC....wow, I could actually *feel* the flying spittle through my monitor screen!

We're coming, coming, coming to getcha....

GravatarYes, the thread has indeed been pulled.
I guess there were too many people agreeing with the concept for the mods to stand.

MYOB'
.

Gravatarand, i'm busy/lazy..

Now THAT I understand...

But

1) you could probably get people to do a lot of the work for you

2) the chances that some group of freeperesque loons will pull some wacky shinola on your entirely open comments section will get higher the closer we get to November. A manufactured "comments scandal," dumb as it would be, is actually kind of likely. Look at the pretend Kos bruhaha. I'm actually a bit surprised there wasn't a "look at the lefty loons who are sponsoring Kerry" thing going on during the Dem conventions.

Just saying, again. Anyway, I don't think you'd have to do the transition all by yourself.

GravatarLink is down. I got here too late.

Couldn't Atrios save links on Furl so we could get to pages that my be taken down?

GravatarOne of my favorite comments was the bit about how "libs" are the ones peeking into peoples' bedrooms to govern their behavior.

Sounds like a great job!

A little to the left! Go ahead and mount! Slap on the handcuffs! Bring in the midget!

That'll be $50.00!

GravatarThread's been pulled

I wonder if it had anything to do with the email that the OSCE Secretariat recently recieved?

GravatarKarin: What? Haiti doesn't get your hormones churning? How about Grenada and Barbara Lee?

The rule is if the CBC is defending there's a good chance that country is a corrupt, blooming dictatorship in disquise. Aka The Truth.

GravatarFreepers,

Too late, the NWO has tracked you and ISPs down...

and it reeducation camp for you!!!

(which should be an improvement over all those rusted out trailers and SRO apts)

GravatarI went over to Free Republic and: NEWS FLASH - I know where all the RWW militia nuts went!!!!!!! They don't have meetings in person anymore, they all just hang out on Free Republic! If McVeigh were alive that's where he'd be, too. I have a solution to the FR/troll/RWW problem, folks. Let's all just be good Amishmen/women and SHUN THEM. Do not speak to them, do not do business with them, do not break bread with them until they return to the fold.

GravatarAnyone save the thread?

Gravatarargh!

We in the NWO have tracked you down...

and it's reeducation camp for all of you!

Gravatarhmmm, I'm guessing we now have a better idea of why colin powell's not going to be at the republican convention.

There's not enough troops in the army to force the Southern people to break down segregation and admit the nigger race into our theatres, into our swimming pools, into our homes and our churches, into our republican conventions.

GravatarAnybody know how to do a screenshot? I'd like to save that post, but I'm computer illiterate.

GravatarI too urge Eschatonians to check out Neiwert's stuff, especially his 15 part series on fascism.

GravatarWow. The whole time I was reading that dreck, I came to the conclusion that this must be what it's like to be sucked into a black hole. The farther down you got, the stupider it became. It's like gazing into the abyss, but as they say, the abyss gazes also.

Anyway, let's not that bunch of mouth-breathing mongoloids deter us from our fighting for democracy. If anything, we should be fighting harder for complete brain-dead morons like them, because if anything, they are living proof of just how morally bankrupt the elites that run their party are. They've turned these poor people into emotional and intellectual cripples, stroking their reptillian hindbrains into raging against obsolete enemies. Most of them are still checking their closets and under their beds for Commies, for Christ's sake.

Maybe it's the alcohol and hallucinogens having sex in my body right now, but I'm feeling sort of charitable to those brainless turds tonight. I actually feel sorry for them tonight. Fuck's sake, am I slipping in my old age?

GravatarFrom the Secret Service website:

Today, the Secret Service is authorized by law to protect...distinguished foreign visitors to the United States....

Anyone feellike dropping a dime?

GravatarAtrios: busy/lazy.

Typical liberal.

: )

GravatarI would like to declare my desire to embody, to be the living spirit, should I live to be old enough, of everything VRWC hates. Then I will be a good person. Christ would like me more.

I am going to refer to him as VCR from now on, just to be a pain.

I would also like to argue against registration. I always loved the open town square environment and I think our argument, our perception of the facts , can stand up to the test of those sacks of bile ...we can ignore , we can argue, and as FourLegs points out " Then go fuck yourself" can be damn funny, and expedient too.

I think we all have Kos for "safe, undistracted discourse" and personally I fear not the troll. Although the name stealing is a bit confusing...

Besides, by avoiding registration, we can tell the trolling freak that democrats can avoid the desire to regulate

GravatarDidn't anyone notice that VRWC threatened John Kerry's life in his post at 11:42 PM ???

To quote:

"Time to buy a bullet and rent a gun if I hear any more traitorous bullshit come out of the mouth of JFuckingKerry about his self-assigned Silver Star, for which his commanders said he should have been courtmartialed instead. Of course, if this is the heaping pile of insiduous sludge that fourlegsgood wants for president, then I guess its time to buy another bullet."

VRWC | Email | Homepage | 08.08.04 - 11:42 pm

I think the Secret Service should be alerted and his I.P. turned over to them.
Seriously.

GravatarThis thread has been pulled.
Pulled on 08/08/2004 9:11:57 PM PDT by Admin Moderator, reason:

Under review

GravatarThis article claims that Kerry covered up evidence of additional POW-MIAs held by the North Vietnamese. And he did it by not investigating the evidence in Cheney's Defense Department sufficiently.

http://www.villagevoice.com/issu...1/ schanberg.php

"It was a voluminous, 1,223-page tome that said, in its brief executive summary, that beyond the 591 men returned in 1973 after the Nixon administration signed its peace treaty with Hanoi, "a small number" may still have been held in captivity, but that there was "no compelling evidence that proves" any of these men were still alive in 1993. Evidence but not compelling enough. Evidence but no proof. The summary read like a pinch-minded legal brief.

Amazingly, the 1,000-plus pages of the body of the report repeatedly challenged the summary, spelling out in detail instance after instance of stark evidence that Hanoi had held back not "a small number" but a very sizable contingent of American prisoners, probably for a ransom that never came. Documents unearthed by the committee staff put the number in the hundreds, maybe as many as 700."

The POW-MIA issue surfaced during the Nixon impeachment proceedings as a way to drum up support for the war and to tar anti-war activists as heartless, unpatriotic louts.

The problem with this story has always been the lumping together of prisoners of war (POWs) and soldiers missing in action (MIAs). The allegation from the first was that the North Vietnam government was holding back prisoners of war as bargaining chips in their negotiations, and therefore we should not deal with North Vietnam.

There are soldiers missing in action who may never be found. There are soldiers missing in action who died in action without being prisoners of war.

The fact that cooperation between the US and Vietnam has produced additional remains of missing-in-action soldiers keeps this issue alive.

There is still no evidence that the US knowingly abandoned living soldiers missing in Vietnam.

But proving a negative is so hard.

GravatarGrenada? I don't know why you keep bringing up countries where the US military OVERTHREW the elected governments. It really doesn't forward your argument about voting rights, which is where we started. If you were truly disenfranchised yourself, do you support the policy of doing it to a whole country?

GravatarThe post was pulled, what the hell did this guy say?

GravatarJim in LA wrote: "because you feel there MUST be some kind of way to reach taht person, to help them see the light, etc."

Classic elitistism of the Left. Only they can guide people and show them the light. The peons in the public are just too goshdarned stooopid to know what is good for them. That's why they are voting for Kerry, a man who is going to raise taxes $1 trillion.

The nerve of Bush giving people their money back and letting them do what they want with it. Doesn't he know the people are stooopid and need to be taxed heavily so the liberal elitists can take care of them and guide them through life?

Gravatarto me, they're all like o'reilly: narcissistic personality disorders just waiting to be diagnosed and treated.

jim in LA, i didn't quite complete my undergrad. in psyche but i can tell you the prognosis is poor.

i imagine, and also from reading more edumacated posters, that history has seen periods like this before. that is, where the rabid come out and spout their spew. one thing gravely changes the eqaution, the elephant in the room, the big unspoken of enchilada, is nukes. the big scare in the 50s early 60s was the bomb. but at least both sides knew it was untenable, now we have a side who doesn't care and another side that is so fearful they can't do anything but react with a knee jerk. that is one reason why i so hope it's kerry, these difficulties are going to require intelligence and 'sensitivity'. of course that argument is totally lost on the dumbasses, what their fearless leader has been doing is working so well. jeebus, save us!

ps. on principle, i am against registration, but for this place i might do it. WTF, nobody cares what i say anyway, i don't even care what i say, but i enjoy saying it.

Gravatarat some point I'll switch to registration, but I'll never switch to active moderation. It just isn't worth it.

I may put my boy child to task on this.

I don't care about moderation, but I would like to have the signature first, so I can filter on the fly.

GravatarOh please, oh please, did someone save that link? I'd love to read it. The freepervs are a particular interest of mine. I like to test out my theories about "conservatives" and "republicans" on them.

Gravataragainst correct thinking people

There, the veritable core of the freepish value system.

Me = correct thinking
You = scary, not understood thinking
Solution = remove you

It's a stage of development. Stuck in "me" or "me and my tribe," not quite able to make the leap to "we" or empathize with "you."

I still hold onto hope that some percentage of these folks will have some life-defining experience, meet a true teacher, or get clobbered with unconditional love, and move on to the next stage.

It could happen.

GravatarKee-rist in a got damn cartoon, VRWC is like one of those Nick Fury-bots in Earth X, busting in all blustery and shouting about pinkoes and shit. Fuckin obsolete and they don't even know it. Doesn't it bother you that your programmers don't even bother to update your programming for the new century dude? Do you really think we're all closet Lenin luvahs? Are you that fucking deluded?

You do realize you're a caricature, right? I mean, you can't actually believe that Kerry will raise taxes A TRILLION dollars, do you? Christ, if that's the case, the Bushies should up the lie to a BAZILLION, if you're so easily duped.

Fuck man, you are really testing the limits of the love of God that resides within me right now. I'm trying reeaaaalll hard to resist the urge to make some crack about how your dad should have pulled out.

BartCop was willing to save the info at his site. Go visit: BartCop

Isn't it time to seed the Freepers with a new meme? Let's see. Something like this:

Didja hear that Internet web sites are being monitored by federal agencies? Well, maybe you already knew this. But some sites have been set up like flypaper so that the Feds (and their UN controllers) can monitor patriotic activists and track their locations through their Internet service providers. Yeah, two of the busiest decoy sites are Free Republic and Little Green Apples. If you've been to either you're already on a government watch list. Maybe ought to warn your friends.

Yeah, tell 'em all.

Gravatarwow .. all the atrios-love got the thread pulled!!

Little shit like that is what keeps me believing there is some divine force out there.

Then I remember Carrot Top is still raking in probably millions, and my namesake is fucking dead, and I start to doubt it all over again.

You stupid deluded dipshit.

Do you really think Bush is "giving people their money back and letting them do what they want with it" when Republicans have destroyed the Unions that allowed working people to earn a enough to buy a house with only one parent and one paycheck coming in to pay the bills?

The golden days you fools keep referring to were created by unions allowing working class people to enter the middle class? The working class now works at Walmart or McDonalds flipping burgers with both parents working, neither getting health insurance for their family, not even close to making enough to buy a house.

VRWC, what fucking money is Bush letting you keep? You don't have no damn money. You don't make no damn money either, you fool.

Anyone who makes less than $50,000 a year will get a TAX CUT from Kerry. I know you make less than $50,000 a year on your security guard job, VWRC. You make minimum wage.

Only those who make more than $200,000 a year will have their tax rates returned to Clinton-era levels. You ain't NEVER gonna see that kind of income a year, VWRC. NEVER.

Not to change the subject back to the object or anything but can some post some of the Freeper fun--that link is, as has been noted, dead.

It's kind of ironic, but definitely not funny.

GravatarAs posted earlier, Bartcop has some of it.

I also have what was in my cache when I heard it was pulled (see homepage if it works).

GravatarThey hate taxes, until they want their roads fixed. Or the cops to come out when they've been robbed. Or the firefighters to put out that fire from having too many TVs plugged into one outlet.

They want something for nothing. Who will pay for it? Well, not them!

GravatarFourlegsgood, I would be tempted to respond to your post, thought by thought, except it isn't all that coherent. Maybe you ought to start tokin' up AFTER you start posting, to warm up to the task, rather than smoke the livin' bejeesus out of everything in sight, and then start posting after your thoughts are addled. I have found that your comments make more sense when you do the former, rather than the latter.

GravatarHave you ever seen a retarded monkey? I did once, at the Henry Doorley Zoo in Omaha. Up until that day, I had no idea that there were animal diseases like Down's Syndrome, but it was pretty obvious there was something wrong with this particular monkey, so I asked one of the older tour guides, figuring they'd know more about the zoo than the college aged tour guides who were obviously only there for the summer. The nice older lady, Deb, I believe her name was, said that the monkey suffered from a simian version of Down's Syndrome, the name of which escapes me at the moment. Being the sick fuck that I am, I was fascinated by this creature, and I watched in awe as he proceeded to shit in his hand...and then smear it on his own face, rather than fling it at the other monkeys like normal chimps. He kept doing this for about five more minutes, gleefully.

Every time I venture into the dark bowels of the internet that is The Free Republic, I think of that little monkey.

Ha! It thinks it's people!

GravatarAs for making threats, wasn't it the Democrats in Florida who sent out that release saying Donald Rumsfeld should be put up against a wall and shot?

I SAW the actual letter on the Drudge Report.

And for the person above who made the incredulous "Democrats stand for democracy" claim, I would like your take on the 38 Democrats in the House of Representatives who sent a letter to Rupert Murdoch asking to meet him and discuss their concerns with Fox News Channel slanting to the Right. If he does not meet him, they mentioned that there are avenues of legislation they could take.

Is this what you call democracy?

Gravatarthis just in from islamabad: privately the interior minister has sent a letter to washington critisizing the thwarting of their intelligence operation, but publicly they have no desire to take on washington.

which reminds me of condi this morning on MTP. have i said it yet, why does that stupid bitch still have her job?

if i could make 200,000 a year i would gladly give half away, that's too much money. but it is a canard, people who make that much have tax shelters. one thing i know about the rich, and i'm not saying they don't work hard, but they hang on to their money.

Gravatarummm... do any of the freepers care to explain why their man ahmed chalabi and his entire family are in ... tehran? geraldo forgot to ask him that one this evening, and no ... this time he wasn't too busy drawing the direction to tehran in the sand.

hahah..... bye bye george.

GravatarOMG THE DRUDGE REPORT! WHAT A PARAGON OF JOURNALISTIC INTEGRITY!

Give me a break, kitten. Some wackjobs in Florida say Rummy should be used for target practice, and suddenly that erases the scads of death threats and verbal masturbation about genocide of Arabs that you fucking cavemen spout EVERY FUCKIN DAY OR YOUR EXISTENCE? Christ, you cumstain, you were just frothing earlier about Commies this and phallus that, and now you're trying to play Mr. Cool and Collected? Shit kid, we got your number in a big fuckin way, and you're pissing yourself with fear, so now you switch tactics. You're fucking Claude Raines, jack.

As for Murdoch: HE'S A FUCKING AUSSIE, YOU TIT. Do you really think a FOREIGNER should have as much control over the media as he does? I thought you ass pimples were against foreigners influencing our government. Which is is, Jughead?

GravatarThey call him Flipper...

"Halliburton is guilty of shameful war-profiteering, and they need to be held accountable."

But he wasn't so critical of Halliburton (and Enron) when he owned stock in both companies.

Kerry is a shameful liar. He almost makes Clinton look honest.

GravatarVWRC... stop changing the subject. What fucking money is Bush letting you keep?

Kerry has the tax cut for working people, not Bush. Bush just want to take away overtime pay from working people. 2 MILLION working class people had their overtime taken away by Bush.

What fuckin money is Bush letting you keep?

GravatarI'm with Obsolete about reporting VCR (thanks Ash!) for the assassination threat.

I agree. Any volunteers?

From Secret Service web site:

How can I report a threat towards a protectee?

Contact your nearest USSS field office (listed in the "Emergency Numbers" section in the front of most phone books.

The Secret Service does not desire or solicit information pertaining to individuals or groups expressing legitimate criticism of, or political opposition to, the policies and decisions of the government of government officials. Gravatar"OMG THE DRUDGE REPORT! WHAT A PARAGON OF JOURNALISTIC INTEGRITY!"

So you're saying that Drudge made up a phony letter and posted it on his website?

You're truly a dundering dimwit and need a good whacking with a cluebat.

GravatarOh it's just the tiny-little-dick club over at the FR. About what you'd expect for a bunch of chubby teenagers and chronically underhung adults.
Tena | Email | Homepage | 08.08.04 - 10:51 pm | #

Right. and we, on the other hand, are oh-so-adult by comparison when we denigrate them

Gravatar(Dammed Haloscan!)

..when we denigrate them by assuming they all have small penises.

How typically fourth-grade of you, Tena. Let's raise the level of discourse a little higher, shall we?

Gravatar"In the 15 hours of testimony, no one asked me what I thought about the president's invasion of Iraq. And the reason I am strident in my criticism of the president of the United States is because by invading Iraq ... the president of the United States has greatly undermined the war on terrorism."

Gravatarperhaps VRWC can explain what the man who sat next first lady ditz at the last state of the union is doing with his entire family in ... tehran ?

ah hello?

GravatarVRWC, can you stick to one subject at a time? Is your attention span as miniscule as your dick and your I.Q.?

Well, since I so deftly parried your bullshit before, I'll do it again with out breaking a sweat:

Kerry owned stock in Halliburton and Enron? Big deal, lots of people did, including, I believe, Ralph Nader. See sport, there's a difference between owning some stock in a company and FUCKING RUNNING IT (Cheney) or BEING CLOSE PERSONAL FRIENDS WITH ITS CEO (Kenny Boy and Dubya, sittin in a tree...)

And before you bring up any donations by either company to the DNC: The ratio of donations between the parties is something like 4:1 favoring the GOP. It's called COVERING YOUR BASES, you ignorant cumrag, and it's why you'll never be in any real position of leadership outside of your local "militia" or Grand Wizard of your local KKK chapter: because the people who control you and feed you this bullshit are much smarter than you and can count on you to not think on anything higher than a third grade level.

You're a tool, dude, and apparently, you love it. Look at the glee with which you do your master's bidding, arguing with a bunch of fucknuts on the internet. I may enjoy talking to these people and cracking jokes, but I in no way am under any delusion that any of us make much of a difference aside from our votes and our voices.

So, chum, I've got two questions for you:

1. Is it really worth your time to come here and spout a bunch of indefensible bullshit? Do you really think you'll convert anyone?

2. Exactly what would it take for you to see through the right wing's bullshit? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on this one and assume you aren't some jaded fuckhead who's trolling just to get a reaction out of people, and that you actually do believe this crazy shit you're spouting. What will it take? Does Bush have to eat a fucking baby on the White House lawn before you see through his shit?

Now rub your two remaining brain cells together and see if you can answer those two questions.

Again, you poor deluded dipshit.

The right didn't win the Cold War. They didn't even know the Soviet Union was collapsing. Go look at the congressional hearing transcripts from that era. The CIA was completely clueless the Soviet system was falling apart. How the hell can the right take credit for the end of the Soviet system when they didn't even fucking know the Soviet system was collapsing.

OPEC flooding the market with cheap oil caused the collapse of the Soviet system. The Soviets couldn't sell oil for grain. Famine was looming for Warsaw Pact nations. Gorbachev had to choose between starving his people or letting the Soviet system collapse. GORBACHEV decided to allow the Soviet system to collapse. Yeltsin finish off the remnants after the coup attempt.

Gorbachev and Yeltsen ended the Soviet system, not anyone in the US. The US was utterly clueless the Soviet collapse was happening.

GravatarBannedman has to be a troll. NOBODY could be so stupid to suggest that Walmart is no good because they offer lower prices to consumers.

Heaven forbid the consumer have the option of buying a product at a cheaper price! They just might go and buy other products or invest in a company with the money they save. Can't have that!

The reason you never got a tax rebate is because you have to pay taxes to get a tax break. Squeegie kids like yourself don't make enough money to pay taxes. OTOH, I got a nice tax refund this year.

Bannedman proved what a troll he is by his praising Kerry's plan to raise taxes on the very people who create jobs.

I remember the letter ad. There was never any evidence produced that registered democrats created that ad. The head of the Florida Democratic Party immediately rejected and deplored that ad. The supposed democratic club that produced it was not registered with the Florida Democratic Party.

Bush hasn't deplored that lying pile of shit freeper boat ad.

GravatarI may be in the minority, but I think atrios' brand of anonymous public discourse is so unique, it should remain as it is.

There is frequent venting on trolls, and I have tasted that simple pleasure myself-knowing full well what an id indulgence it is. But more importantly, reading the creme de la crap of the right, seeing first hand how, or if, they think, is as valuable, or perhaps necessary an experience as reading 'Mein Kampf', or seeing Attorney General Palmer or Joe McCarthy in action. I'm sure they all started out as annoying too.

keep your friends close but...

GravatarInteresting that Bill Hicks brought up the KKK. Isn't there a Democratic Senator who...oh never mind.

But what do you expect from an ideology that has such contempt for minorities?

Insert overused Orwell reference here.

Gooood, I love baiting trolls. Ever since sitcoms bit the dust, it's my main form of amusement.

GravatarRegistration is helpful in temporarily getting rid of non-contributors.

The most important issue in registration however is to prevent name hijacking, which makes it very easy for someone to dirty the screenname of someone else - and having these results show up in search engines.

I'm all for registration. I'd also support threads, since it is much easier to follow discussion.

I think Atrios and community are open to having very damaging material posted with no way to protect our reputation. This should stop.

To be called a "troll" by VWRC is high praise.

Southern cotton producers yelled the same bullshit about lower cotton prices to consumers to justify SLAVERY!

The South seceeded from the union when they weren't allowed to expand their cotton cost-cutting SLAVERY operations to new territories and states.

It's real fucking easy to offer low prices when the labor force is being paid slave wages and getting no health insurance coverage.

I tell you what, VRCW. YOU volunteer to work 40 hours for free to keep Walmart prices low. Ahhhhhh... doesn't sound like such a good deal if you have to get off your dead ass and allow Walmart to take advantage of your white ass, huh?

Dear Dipshit,

MoveOn.org never ran that ad, it was part of a contest where people could freely contribute their own self-produced ads. No one was voting for it, and they took it off the site. Kerry has nothing to condemn, because he had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.

As for the Hitler thing, you ignorant turd, calling oneself a NATIONAL SOCIALIST doesn't make it so. Bush calls himself a conservative while racking up record deficits and increasing the federal government's size and scope more than any President since LBJ. So you strike out on that one too, champ.

No one won the Cold War, you asshat. Communism was an insustainable system that only ever worked in theory. The only Communist regimes still in existence are either inconsequential, or are embracing the free market in order to avoid becoming obsolete.

Christ, claiming that ANY one in America helped win the Cold War is bullshit. Communism collapsed because IT DOESN'T WORK AND PEOPLE LIKE TO HAVE THEIR OWN STUFF, DUMBASS.

You know who won the Cold War? RUSSIANS, YOU DUMB MOTHERFUCKER.

GravatarI can see the logic behind regisration being used to fight against name stealers and spambots, but I imagine that both could dance around it. Name stealers are the most insidious trolls in my book, but I kinda think they're also so blatant it's generally easy to figure out when you caught a perch, as it were.

As for the trolls - be they the random drive-by troll or one of our regulars - I say let 'em stay. Just recognize them for what they are. They're not gonna change their minds, even in the face of fact and logic, and they'd have to be dumber than bricks to think we're gonna change our minds just on their say-so. Has anyone ever seen where that worked on anyone but the most hopelessly naive?

Nah, they're trolls. All of 'em - DB, VRWC, Thug, Toby, Patterson, ether, Darth Philly G, Jill - are here for two reasons and two reasons only: draw attention to themselves and disrupt the thread. The latter is obvious, of course, but the former is also important. We live in a world where power is held by the few, so it's human nature to try to flex your ego where you can. Some people are dicks to their employees, some people beat their spouses, and some troll message boards just looking to stir shit up. It's all the same.

Then there are those trolls who're just here to flex their intellectual muscle by being contrary. They don't believe what they say; it's just something to stir us up. It's like the people who always play the Devil's Advocate in arguments just to prove their "intellectual superiority". Say what you will about the first group of troll, they at least believe what they spew.

Neither troll is here to gain the main accomplishment of a true debate: knowledge. They're not here to learn or share ideas or even acknowledge that a contradictory point of view is valid. Nothing we say will change the minds of the first set of trolls, and the second set could care less. Any argument you use is just somewhere new to dance.

Nevertheless, trolls do serve a couple of purposes. For one, after a hard day when life's kicked you in the goodies repeatedly, nothing feels better than whupping up on a particularly nutty troll. Plus, it helps keep the ol' brain muscles sharp for when you do face a person in meatspace who has a different opinion than you do. With this person, unless he or she is so far gone as to be without hope, you can learn from and teach to, so they're worth the time and effort we put into trolls.

Trolls just aren't worth the effort unless you got nothing better to do. Personally, I generally scroll past the bigger brou-hahas unless something catches my eye. So mark me down as "no for regisration but will register if it becomes a requirement."

GravatarAsH -

Being a free citizen has nothing to do with registration on this site. I'm sure Atrios will not go "ban crazy". There has to be a way of having civil discourse without name stealing and insult hurling and repetitive, distruption for the sake of it. IMHO.

GravatarA large part of who is consevative and who is liberal goes down to simply who believes it's okay to bully and manipulate people, and who think such behavior is wrong. That emerges at an early age and is really a facit of one's individual personality.

Ahem - this study might help.

"We consider evidence for and against the hypotheses that political conservatism is significantly associated with (1) mental rigidity and closed-mindedness, including (a) increased dogmatism and intolerance of ambiguity, (b) decreased cognitive complexity, (c) decreased openness to experience, (d) uncertainty avoidance, (e) personal needs for order and structure, and (f) need for cognitive closure; (2) lowered self-esteem; (3) fear, anger, and aggression; (4) pessimism, disgust, and contempt; (5) loss prevention; (6) fear of death; (7) threat arising from social and economic deprivation; and ( threat to the stability of the social system."

GravatarAs I'm sure many of you know, the Freep mods don't pull threads lightly. Many threads have individual posts purged (the ones that talk about assassinating Democrats or killing all the n------) but this is pretty rare.

probably never hold up in a court of law, self serving, or what ever, but facts are there. and a good example of how the right just makes up unsubstantiated assertions then everyone has to expend energy to straighten the record, meanwhile much damage is done and substantial issues are ignored to the peril of us all, left, right, and middle.

oh, and did i mention Bush is a War Criminal who also subverted the constitution.

The green light for ignoring the Geneva Conventions for the humane treatment of prisoners came straight from President George W. Bush, who decided that Taliban and al-Qaida prisoners didn't qualify for protection as prisoners of war.

GravatarI think it's just incredibly sad that there are so many vocal fascists like those at Free Republic. The irony is, of course, lost on them when they make their self righteous proclaimations about defending the constitution which they so openly despise. Even more sad is that the wealthy rightists of this country believe that stirring up and encouraging these would-be brownshirts is a good investment for them. History is a series of cycles and we're sure in a bad one right now, but I look forward to the day of reckoning when all this extremist, completely unAmerican right wing bullshit is exposed as was McCarthyism. Once that occurs, it will be a hundred years before they can resurface again without being looked at as the miscreants they are. But it will take action by both Democrats and the few morally grounded Republicans left to make sure these people are exposed and humiliated. First step should be to reorganize the big media and disallow any major news enterprise to be owned by another corporation and to return to the days when networks are not allowed to own more than a small number of stations.

Don't even PRETEND you fucking even saw the "ad" in question, you lying turd. You're just hewing to the talking points, and everyone here knows it.

Gravatar"They realized that they had to hide the fact that the Left is morally bankrupt."

Who is morally bankrupt are the people who just killed 20,000+ COMPLETELY INNOCENT PEOPLE in Iraq, you racist turd.

The moral corruption of Rs is a constant, matched only by their protestations of being religious. Bushliar has probably never read the Bible, and even if he has, his intentional killing of over 800 innocent people on Good Friday while he went FISHING (washing his hands, get it?) goes well with the POPE wondering if Bush is the Antichrist.

You may not like the Pope, but he is the Pope. The Pope and just about every real moral leader in the world begged Bush not to invade Iraq. He doesn't give a shit. The Republican Party hasn't been the party of Lincoln since before World War I. Teddy Rossevelt was the last Lincoln Republican, and he was only became President because his predecessor died in office.

Of course Walmart has no problems getting people to work for them. THERE ARE NO OTHER JOBS. BUSH DESTROYED THE JOB CREATION PROCESS. It's Walmart or starve.

I don't give a shit if their managers started by stocking shelves. The managers at Walmart don't make dick either. Assistant manger don't even make 25K salary a year, and those poor schmuck have to work 70 hours a week to get that 25 K a week. You just think they do because it's more than you'll ever see at your minimum wage security guard job.

Health insurance and a wage higher than minimum wage is "extravagant" while the company CEOs are making billions is reasonable. Yeah.

The funny thing is VWRC is exactly the type of foolish tool that is never going to make more than minimum wage or get health insurance on his security guard job.

I don't believe in protectionism, by the way. I'm for global fair trade standards. No child labor. No prison labor. That sort of thing.

Yeah, I'm sure all the Slavs and Poles and Czechs who lived under the Iron Curtain have shrines devoted to that B-movie acting, terrorist appeasing, lying, traitorous dipshit right in their living rooms.

Gravatar"just about every real moral leader in the world begged Bush not to invade Iraq."

Oh really? The leaders of the 55 countries in the coalition are all immoral? Or do you mean ChIRAQ and Schroeder are the only real moral leaders?

Do those 400,000 innocent ppl in those mass graves all over the country count? I guess not. After all, they are only brown ppl and we all know what the Left thinks of colored ppl. Affirmative Action says it all. The racists on the Left think that colored ppl are incapable of making it on their own.

But is anyone really surprised? These ppl have a former KKK member in the Senate and are voting for a self-admitted war criminal to run the country.

GravatarA link for ignorant Freepers.

And a quote by Karl Marx:

The misery that the stoppage of the factories and the shortening of the labour time, motivated by the blockade of the slave states, has produced among the workers in the northern manufacturing districts is incredible and in daily process of growth. The other component parts of the working class do not suffer to the same extent; but they suffer severely from the reaction of the crisis in the cotton industry on the other industries, from the curtailment of the export of their own products to the North of America in consequence of the Morrill tariff and from the loss of this export to the South in consequence of the blockade. At the present moment, English interference in America has accordingly become a knife-and-fork question for the working class. Moreover, no means of inflaming its wrath against the United States is scorned by its “natural superiors”. The sole great and widely circulating workers’ organ still existing, Reynolds’s Newspaper, has been purchased expressly in order that for six months it might reiterate weekly in raging diatribes the ceterum censeo of English intervention. The working class is accordingly fully conscious that the government is only waiting for the intervention cry from below, the pressure from without, to put an end to the American blockade and English misery. Under these circumstances, the persistence with which the working class keeps silent, or breaks its silence only to raise its voice against intervention and for the United States, is admirable. This is a new, brilliant proof of the indestructible staunchness of the English popular masses, of that staunchness which is the secret of England’s greatness and which, to speak in the hyperbolic language of Mazzini, made the common English soldier seem a demi-god during the Crimean War and the Indian insurrection.

I agree with you're accessment of the Bush family and the Intelligence appartatus in this country, except as far as the collapse of the Soviet system. I lived through it. I studied it. The Intelligence services in this country was caught completely flat-footed by the collapse of the Soviet system. Nobody saw it coming, and it was a scandal that was investigated as to why nobody saw the collapse coming that there were multiple Congressional Hearings about at the time.

Gravatar"Don't even PRETEND you fucking even saw the "ad" in question,"

But I did see it. And Moveon.org is in bed with the Democratic Party. Many many people saw that ad and realized how hateful and distasteful the Left really is.

Only Moonbats such as yourself deny that it was never on their site.
VRWC | Email | Homepage | 08.09.04 - 2:33 am | #

Another fucking lie. You didn't see jack shit, you fucking punk. Now, to be perfectly crystal fucking clear, I'm not saying that the ad wasn't on the site, because it was. It was a stupid ad to begin with, and they should have taken it down. That they didn't until you and your bunch of whiny little bitches started crying your fucking crocodile tears is a bad reflection on them. Personally, I don't like MoveOn. See, cum bubble, unlike you mindless drones on the right, we Democrats don't all see eye to eye. I like pornography, I like drugs, and I like red meat. Hell, I even like guns. So just because some asshead put a stupid Hitler ad on MoveOn doesn't make me feel like I have anything to apologize for. If every Republican and every Democrat had to apologize for every stupid thing other Republicans and Democrats do, we'd never get anything done, and you dipshits would all have laryngitis.

Come to think of it, that's not a bad idea. But, that's not my point. I'm not saying the ad wasn't there, because I know it was. But I know for a fucking fact that you never saw it, because I didn't even know about it until the pundits started howling about it.

So to sum up: You're either the most brain-dead, mendacious sack of shit to drag his hairy knuckles in here in a long time, or you are the most brilliant parody of a Freeper ever. Either way, I weep at the energy expended to get to this point.

GravatarQuestions for Qetchup Qing Qerry:

He was on the Senate Intelligence Committee for 8 years in the 1990s, so he had access to up-to-date information on Al Qaeda and its activities. What steps did he take to fight terrorism? Why did he propose cutting the military in bill S.1163, just months after the 1993 World Trade Center terrorist bombing? Two years later, why did he propose in bill S.1290 to "reduce the Intelligence budget by $300 million in each of fiscal years 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000?" In 1996, why did Kerry propose in bill S.1580 to reduce military funding by $6.5 billion? Why did he vote against funding vital military equipment like the MX missile, the Patriot missile, the Apache helicopter, the Blackhawk helicopter, the B-1 Bomber and the Bradley Fighting Vehicle, as his voting record clearly shows? More recently, why did he change his vote to deny our military in Iraq the equipment they needed so desperately?

Kerry explained, "I actually voted for the $87 billion... before I voted against it."

The public demands answers to these questions!

spending the last 3 years destroying terrorist training camps

-Bush gave up destroying terrorist camps to get Halliburton into Iraq.

breaking up terror cells in the US and abroad,

-Number of terroist cells Bush broke up in US... ZERO.

uncovering a multinational nuclear proliferation ring

-A big lie from Italian Intel services inluded shitty forgetd documents.

forcing belligerent North Korea to the bargaining table,

-Wrong... North Korea GAINED THE ABILITY TO HIT THE US WITH NUCLEAR MISSILES ON BUSH'S WATCH. SEE JANES DEFENSE WEEKLY. Clinton had North Korea pack up all their nuke production for the price a few oil deliveries... oil deliveries that BUSH stopped which led to a pissed off N. Korea making nukes and mounting them on missiles.

cowing Libya into giving up its WMD programs and terrorist support

-Wrong. Early Clinton-era diplomacy led to this... along with the fact that Khadifi wanted to host the World Cup. The World Cup hosting thing was actually the biggest factor. Khaddifi wanted his pro soccer playing sun to play in a Libyan World Cup. Pretty bizarre story.

and winning 2 wars against terrorist-supporting Islamofascist dictatorships in the process.

What did Kerry do on 9/11? Well apparently unlike the 7 minutes he accuses Bush of doing nothing, he did nothing for 40 minutes per a conversation he had on "Larry King Live".

KING: Where were you?
KERRY: I was in the Capitol. We'd just had a meeting -- we'd just come into a leadership meeting in Tom Daschle's office, looking out at the Capitol. And as I came in, Barbara Boxer and Harry Reid were standing there, and we watched the second plane come in to the building. And we shortly thereafter sat down at the table and then we just realized nobody could think, and then boom, right behind us, we saw the cloud of explosion at the Pentagon. And then word came from the White House, they were evacuating, and we were to evacuate, and so we immediately began the evacuation.

"...we just realized nobody could think". Ah, but had you been in Florida, Mr. Ketchup, things would have been different?

As to the time involved, the 2nd plane hit the World Trade Center at 9:03 a.m., and the plane hit the Pentagon at 9:43 a.m. Apparently Kerry "couldn't think" for 40 minutes.

Boy this record thing sure keeps biting Kerry in the ass, doesn't it?

Halliburton, as one of the ONLY companies in the world that does what it does, on the scale that it does, has subsidiaries in EVERY oil producing country in the world. That's what happens when a company is good at what they do. Everyone wants to use them...as did Clinton.

There is no crime in being successful. Nor is there a crime in being good at what one does. Halliburton is the best, and largest, in the world at what it does. Stop beating that dead-horse. Halliburton got where it is by being good at what it did, not by underhanded chicanery. Liberals should try that one of these days.

Yeah. This story is an ancient 54 minutes old at the time of posting.

Ex-Employees Sue Halliburton for Fraud

Aug. 9, 2004 (Associated Press) — Four former employees claim that Halliburton Co. engaged in systematic accounting fraud, according to a filing in a class-action lawsuit against the oilfield-services giant.

The fraud allegedly occurred from 1998, when Vice President Dick Cheney ran Halliburton, to 2001. Cheney, who left Halliburton in August 2000, was not named as a defendant in the filing.

The former finance employees say that Halliburton divisions routinely inflated their results by overstating amounts due from customers and understating money owed to vendors.

They say the company's top executives also hid Halliburton's vulnerability to asbestos claims. The former employees were not named.

Lawyers attached the proposed lawsuit to a motion they filed Tuesday in U.S. district court in Dallas as part of a class-action case against Halliburton. The lawyers asked a federal judge for permission to file the lawsuit despite a June 7 order that apparently settled the larger case.

The complaint named Halliburton and four executives as defendants, including chairman and chief executive David J. Lesar, former chief financial officer and now El Paso Corp. CEO Douglas L. Foshee, retired CFO Gary V. Morris and former controller Robert Charles Muchmore Jr.

The charges in the filing go far beyond those outlined [last] week in a settlement of a civil lawsuit by the Securities and Exchange Commission, which called for Halliburton to pay $7.5 million and Muchmore to pay $50,000 for failing to disclose a change in accounting procedures in 1998. The SEC said the change caused the company to mislead investors in 1998-1999.

In a statement, Houston-based Halliburton blasted one of the law firms filing the complaint, Scott & Scott of Colchester, Conn., which had filed two previous asbestos-related lawsuits against the company. Halliburton said a federal judge in Dallas in June gave preliminary approval to a settlement of about 20 such class-action cases and ordered that no further complaints be filed.

"This is just the latest chapter in Scott & Scott's publicity driven efforts to extort money from Halliburton's current shareholders," Halliburton said.

Halliburton said Scott & Scott attached the new complaint to a motion in an old case to get publicity for its charges "while violating the spirit but not the letter" of the judge's ruling in June.

A call to Scott & Scott was not immediately returned.

The four employees charged that Halliburton and its top executives "intentionally engaged in seri

That was scary. And by the way, in Germany where I live (as an ex-pat) many people who experienced the Nazi era can point out loads more similarities.
This is why Bush scares Europeans so much: his fascist tendencies

When they have you in their confidence, they let on that they really do have a problem with women competing with men in the workplace, with blacks and Hispanics (the former are lazy and violent and the latter are here illegally stealing our jobs), gays should either be converted to straight, ghettoized, or euthanized, Muslims should be converted or engaged in a holy war, etc. And there are more of these people than I think you might want to know, and not just in the South and nutty parts of the West. But they're not that obvious because they don't march around in white hoods; ironically, they also think the KKK are extremists or at least an embarrassment.

But please, don't call them Christians. There are a lot of good sincere Christians out who really do act on "love thy neighbor" as their prime directive from God.

"They will know we are Kristians by our hate."

GravatarYou want to make their heads explode? Ask them to name one positive thing that Bush has done

GravatarVWRC is now attacking Lincoln's enemies. Why not? I mean it gets old going after Clinton

Lincoln could have cared less about the slaves. He said himself that he only wanted the Union to survive.

Ah...as the sands of the economy and the war suck W down, the freepers go nuts.

GravatarProbably way too late, but I'd vote for some form of registration and would support the notion of allowing the PHAT team to deal with some of the more ridiculous and sophmoric troll scat, if they had time. I enjoy a good debate as well as the next person, but there are times when the trolls completely derail interesting discussions or when the same troll brings up the same points on thread after thread.

GravatarOK I woke up late and like jkas sez, the slf's pulled it. anyone save the text? otw what was the jist?

GravatarHecate: Yeah. Atrios can turn over the keys to a few trusted guys/gals to moderate for him. There would be a brief flareup as the trolls tried to test our mettle, but it would die down again right away.

Meanwhile, JimRob may have zapped the evidence, but Onehandle has preserved it for eternity:

Hey, JimRob! Delete THIS!

GravatarThanks for the link Phoenix Woman!

GravatarSadly, the Freepers have pulled the link, would love to have seen it.

It would be a mistake to underestimate these folks, if only because a few of them seem to be a little more connected than it might appear. For instance, Jerome Corsi, co-author of that Swift Vote book, is a Freeper. They are organized enough to bring people to Kerry-Edwards rallies. It's not just some pimply-faced Dylan Klebold types venting their angst at the computer keyboard. We need to find a way to take them out.

GravatarThanks Phoenix Woman, will spread this one around.

Who wants to place bets on how soon one of these nut cases goes overboard and actually follows through on their threats? Then we'll have a legal basis for shutting them down.

GravatarLink pulled? Anyone archive it?

Gravatarsorry didn't scroll up

GravatarAs someone way upthread noted, Freepers are not just a small bunch of sexually frustrated yahoos from Podunk. I live in an area of the country that's considered a bastion of East-Coast liberalism, but I've met so many people in my ordinary, daily life who espouse the Freeper mentality. On the surface, they're very sociable, average people. But as the earlier poster said, when you get them in your confidence they tell you all sorts of weird, paranoid stuff.

GravatarFor the record, the "morphing" TV spots are an accepted RIGHT-wing gimmick, from the House Of Rove. The most radical example of which was when they had Tom Daschle morph into Osama Bin I'm Not Fucking Making This Up Laden.

I think they stopped just short of a video morph, when they compared the legless and one-armed Senator Max Cleland, war hero, to Mr. Bin Lades. But the juxtaposition in their ads is now well-known, and they got away with it.

We pause to remember: IOKIYAR.

Remember that MoveOn.org conducted its ad contest at a time when attacking Bush was still a relatively gutsy idea. Predictably, the introduction of completely appropriate and accurate comparisons of this regime to that of Adolf Hitler's Third Reich were met with bloody howling screams of Republican Outrage [tm]. The mainstream media donned its kneepads and sucked, dutifully. The official story was clear and direct: We Do Not Compare Our Fascist president To Legendary Fascists Because That Makes The Accuser The Bad Guy.

MoveOn.org apologized and distanced itself from this perfectly legit spot until the cows came home. Rule number ONE, troops: STOP FUCKING APOLOGIZING!

Now, every time the bell rings and MoveOn.org comes out fighting, they're wearing a dunce cap. And as they're about to take a swing, all any media idiot has to do is bring up the Hitler ad, and MoveOn has to waste the sound bite, distancing themselves from the contestant, yet again. Christ. Buy a fucking clue.

Been like that ever since. You want a good brickbat to use against the very effective MoveOn.org? Just say, "They compared Our president to HITLER!" Doesn't have to be true, but the right's got a real good one now, and nobody's even allowed to take a looksee, occasionally, to see... if... it... might... actually... be... TRUE.

Well ya know what? I ain't runnin' for nothin'. So here goes: Bush equals Hitler. Got a fucking problem with that, Tim?.. Peter?.. Tweety?.. Aaron?..

... or any of you sissy "liberal" pundits who feel that your price of admission onto the lit set is to say, "Well, of COURSE comparing Bush to, ahhh,, ahhh, HITLER, is 'way OVER-THE-TOP, and completely INAPPROPRIATE..!". That's right, assholes. HELP them. Sheesh.

Gravatarthanks rasputina at 1:22am for saving part of the thread.

Are you kidding? Remember the Oklahoma City bombing?

Nichols brothers anyone?

GravatarBarry, anyone who has studied even a little about Hitler's rise to power can't deny there are frightening similarities between Germany in the 30s and 40s and the US today, including powerful, immoral, and lawless corporations; knee-jerk nationalism; rampant religiosity; a profoundly isolationist attitude; open hostility toward the less fortunate in society; etc. It's truly scary.

GravatarManaged to have a look at the cache. Thanks (?) Rasputina, worth knowing how completely insane the freepers can be, but it churns the stomach to see the extent.

Thank God they're just a lunatic fringe of fighting keyboarders...

GravatarAnyone know where I can get a blue helmet? We should all wear one to the polls on 11/2. Problem is, I don't think there are any Freepers here in West Philly.

GravatarIndeed, queen crab. Indeed.

Now think about THIS:

It is now officially in this country OFF-LIMITS to study it, anymore. In the greater, perennially-accepted sense of history as something to be *learned-from*.

THAT'S what's so scary.

GravatarFreepers woke up on the wrong side of their beds,
To talk big about shooting some heads,
But like each wingnut fella,
The berets will be yella,
And they're looking for blue helmets instead

GravatarI think it's obvious that if any attempt is made on Kerry's life, we'll know the first people to send the FBI after.

GravatarSimilar to First Draft's registration policy, why not let anyone unregistered post, but under a default handle ala Slashdot? Instead of "Anonymous Coward", I would suggest "Stupid Fucking Troll", or somesuch.
Another idea, which I may or may not have posted before, is some sort of IP filtering, wherein the anonymi get one free comment, then that IP is banned for 1 hour. I don't know how technically feasible that is, and it definitely won't stop the hackers, but hackers aren't really the problem.

GravatarHey, cool - there's another Cameron here. Not many of us around.

GravatarI too enjoyed Jon Stewart on the CNBC program - and Dean did well too as the host - Howard deserves a program of his own if he wants it. He's obviously plenty smart, with a good sense of humor.

GravatarVCR seems to think there is something embarrassing about the letter Q ("Qetchup Qing Qerry").

This shows you the mentality of the person you're dealing with.

Ignore him, folks, he's a fool impervious to either rational argument or verbal abuse.

Gravatar"Nazis....rampant religiosity"

Nazis? Religiosity? No.

GravatarI think the freeper has seen the error of their ways... or just got embarassed... and pulled down the post in question... Did anyone archive it for re-posting.

Gravatar"Nazis? Religiosity? No." Well, not exactly with most Nazis, but with many Germans. Though some Germans and some Nazis were deep in mystico-crap that are on par with any idiocy the Left Behind BS can come up with.

I'd also liked to add another striking and fearsome similarity between Hitler Junta and Bush Junta: their complete and absolute loathing for anything intellectual, for science, for arts, in a word, for civilization. We just need one of these clowns to say "When I hear the word "culture", I send a Tomahawk".

GravatarGhost----

Had exactly the same experience at the K/E Rally in St. Louis last Thursday with some of the Bush Hitler Youth Brigade.

GravatarI'm been camping for a week so if anyone has the original freeper thread that
started these posts, let me know. Heck, email it, cause I was wondering if I would ever see anything more nasty than the xxx spam my inbox keeps getting.

Gravatar"Nazis....rampant religiosity"

Nazis? Religiosity? No.

I'm talking about Germany in the 30s and 40s, not necessarily Nazis. Not everyone was a member of the nazi party, just as every American today isn't a right-wing nutjob (indeed very few are). But the Germans back then, like Americans today, were easily influenced by the "family values" platitudes that the nazi regime spouted. They were also easily intimidated and led to fear Jews, homosexuals, and other "others." Sound familiar? One doesn't have to mix the powder to drink the Kool-Aid.

Gravatar*laughs and laughs and laughs*

Well, what else am I expected to do considering the antics above? You can see how idiotic he is, I certainly can see it... but AM/RV/VRWC, he can't see it! Oh my aching sides!

Regarding the debate on Registery which is going on in this thread too I see (I posted earlier and briefly on it in another below), one advantage of said approach is that it adds time to the trolling process: You have to think up a new user name, and then register it from a proxy server not already banned to carry on trolling. Using email addresses for confirmation also cuts down on being able to get someone else mail-bombed: If you can't access the email, you can't use it here... It's one of the ways I caught him pretending to be Ricky, btw: I emailed the real one and asked him to confirm posting here, whilst simultanoeusly telling the "Ricky" here that he had new email... you may consider it somewhat limiting of free speach, but do you really want to be deluged in angry messages about what someone else is saying under your name?
Now whilst adding time to the process won't stop our obsessional pal here (he does not, after all, have anything else in his life to do), it will slow him down somewhat. And a decrease in the amount of bullshit he can post is justification enough, I believe, for switching over to such a system.

GravatarI for one would welcome registration if it meant the end once and for all to AN's tedious diatribes. GROW UP DUDE!!! If you don't like the trolls IGNORE THEM. Don't play out your vendettas here, it is a serious waste of time.

Gravataraw gee whiz, i love getting deluges of emails letting me know what a dipshit i am, whilst i sit around reading guns and ammo and masturbating in my own feces

GravatarThis link now says that the "thread has been pulled"

Did anyone save the text?

Anyway, when I'm as old as that, will you show me how to comment on the first paragraph in a post, and how to ignore completely the second far more mature paragraph?

And here's the best bit: If enough people complained under a Registration system, Atrios would ban me too Thus everyone wins. Isn't that nice? In the meantime, sit back and enjoy this troll free thread, which my earlier absence and lack of feeding has encouraged to remain in a pristine state...

Gravatarand americas nemesis you are fine one to talk about name stealing or trolling since you obviously steal troll names again and again just look at the above example ..."whilst" cmon guy at least switch up the lingo.

America's Nemesis

AN: Sing it, brother. (And I for one appreciate your troll-busting.)

No one here is calling for a crackdown on dissenting opinion à la Freeperville or LGF. Most of us probably just want to protect the normal functions of Eschaton: education (think lurkers, among others), thoughtful discussion, and issuing/answering calls to action re. media malpractice. These things become even more important during the next 3 months, and I'd like to be able to still participate without having to look where I step. The name-stealers and iron-butt trolls have to go (and I would frickin' LOVE it if we could get those accidental Haloscan-busting posts fixed, but I seem to be in a minority there). We're also going to have to watch for posts from trolls who will try to discredit the whole site by advocating "shooting Dubya," etc.

Eschaton is having growing pains. It was inevitable, given its success. Atrios, you'd have a lot of help out here, rarin' to go. You have only to ask people you trust -- and if any of it costs money, well, you've got the fundraising thing down. Nobody expects you to shovel up the trollshit all by yourself. You've done enough for us, and I think many of us are more than willing to do whatever we can to keep this place doing what it does best.

GravatarGosh Thoughtcrime, for someone who deals in reconditioned computers, you sure seem to be overly paranoid about how someone could track an identity online to a real life person. That's assuming, of course, that you actually do work for the Almeda County Computer Resource Centre, whose domain name it is you've used, yet upon whose homepage your email address doesn't appear at all...

Needless to say, I'd be very interested to see how you think the FBI or anyone else could track you from here however, if you simply registered a free Hotmail account and always accessed it by anonymous proxy... Or Yahoo, if you'd prefer to avoid Mr Gates.

Of course, if it later turned out that you were trying to stifle free speech by being an asshole here, Atrios could still ban both your user name and email address... but in the meantime, finding out who you actually were from that registration data? A bit of common sense could avoid that possibility entirely, (heck you don't even need to enter valid data at Hotmail: you can set your home county as Teletubby Land if you wish). All Registration would ensure is that trolls would have to take a bit of time making up new identities and couldn't steal other people's email addresses... But I guess you know all this, what with offering hard drive degaussing and what not, yes?

At least I should hope so, because the email address you've just given us all not only tells everyone where you presumably work (or at least where your email is stored, and as it's hardly Microsoft, the chances of them knowing who owns that account are much, much greater than perhaps they would be otherwise), but also the opening hours at which Johnny Ashcroft's Boys can come and pick you up.

Now wouldn't you feel much more comfortable knowing that no one can publish your information, with associated comments no less, without first having access to the email account itself? Because, as you can see, it would prevent someone like me doing the following:

"I am going to kill George W Bush and then make his daughters eat his flesh in the form of a pie garnished with sprinkled burnt Iraqi bits"

And look! I've attached your email address to the comments.

Does Registration seem such an evil now, hmm?

GravatarOne of these Freepers wrote the Smear Boat Vet book.
Please, everyone (except you idiotic Freepers) write an email today to ALL the cable and network news outlets and inform them that this should be a major story.
The fact that the Smear Boat Vet book was written by an unstable man who posts vile hate on a lunatic fringe website.
The Freepers had put Nick Berg on their enemy's list and threatened to report his name to their friends in Iraq. Next thing you know he is arrested.
These Freepers are little jackboots whose time has come.
Email the news organizations today and tell all you know about the Freepers and Jerome Corsi the Smear Boat author.

GravatarThe nazis' first group to be hostile against and jail or kill: homosexuals.

Gravatar'and americas nemesis you are fine one to talk about name stealing or trolling since you obviously steal troll names again and again just look at the above example '

Now whilst none of you believe my charmingly obsessional friend anyway, because all of you have memories long enough to recall I've been winding him up under this name alone since he was America's Memory, some new posters might occasionally fall for it for a day or so: The next day of course they see how he goes postal, and how I am still here under the same name and in exactly the same way. But in the meantime, he as a tiny little hole he thinks he can wedge his even tinier little crow bar into. Registration takes even this away from him, because only the person who set up the account, accessed the associated email, and knows the password can use said name.

Keep it up Trollboy, you are actually helping an excellent debate here for once!

"another argument for registration. putting a lid on this juvenile twerp"

Atrios hasn't done it yet, but you see, it's very hard to do so even if he wanted to. He emailed me recently, and although a gentleman should never tell, let me just state my own words, which were that I contacted him with a few pointers to online anonymous proxy lists: if he did a search for the ip addresses you'd been using, he may find the original list you might be using, and he could block ban the whole lot. Of course you see, I could just do the same to get around any of his banning efforts; all I'd need is a list of Proxies, and if Atrios found that list, I'd simply get another one. Why is that relevant? Because you and I both know how quick and easy it is to troll under the current blogger system, because we've both done it: A 2 minute google search on the words "Proxy Server" and typing the numbers into IE6 was all it took for me to get past the bannings you tried to enforce on the Ricky Vandal blog. It's pathetically easy to troll the blogger format, much harder (especially if you are lasy :-P) to stop trolls. Atrios probably can't ban either of us effectively at this moment
Registration makes that process easier... Because even if I swap my IP address to a proxy, I would still need a valid name to post, which means registering at least once.

Of course, "America's Nemesis" is almost certain to get banned... you'll race me for that name, won't you? But as I said, I'll be registering under my far older name, under which I used to post more seriously over 2 years ago... Tena remembers what it was, which I found sweet actually, so it won't be too hard for me to return to it. But to discredit that, you'll have to get my password as well as my name. No more posting as me, and no more posting that I wanted to be you.... Doesn't Registration look appealing already, Eschatonians? But there's more!

"the trolls would go away but for your fighting with them in the most childish and ineffective way."

See how h

Gravatar....
"the trolls would go away but for your fighting with them in the most childish and ineffective way."

See how he reveals himself again? Of course, my fighting with them, and him in particular, is enormously (if not actually universally) effective, and he knows it, which is why he's obsessed over me again so suddenly today... There are days when I can derail his entire trolling efforts with just a few words. Note that today VRWC has shifted from all the crap he was spouting which was drawing in so much attention previously, to trying to make a completely nonsensical comment about trolling under other names, because of the use of the word "which". Does anyone care about that though? Nope. Thus Eschaton Wins For Another Day

Now you could argue that banning me would clear up the problem, because I won't be there to provoke him into irrelevant idiocy: and I'm not arrogant enough to think that everyone who calls for that is just him trying to stop getting him to dance.
But as you regulars will note, I've been away for most of the weekend: And he's still been trolling here to the same degree as any other day... Look at these threads alone: How many trolls had VRWC made before I even came along today? And he will continue to troll, irrespective of who or what is actually submitted via/to Eschaton, because the issue with this particular troll isn't feeding, or even who feeds him at all, because it's gone way beyond the level of cause and effect for him. He has become his own cause, and he will continue to "fight for it" no matter what happens here: How many times have I, or other posters, ripped him apart until he's been left a quivering piece of intellectual jelly on the floor, and yet he still keeps coming back, believing he's making the posters here look stupid?
I don't throw the word obsessional around lightly, but this one truely is such a person: Attacking Eschaton has literally become his life.
You remember the time he started calling people at home to harass them?
Ignoring this particular troll will not work, because he's prepared to follow you home.

Now when dealing with such people as this, I think it's absolutely imperative that anyone has the option to filter him out with as little effort as possible, to lower the cost to ones life of defending it from someone who doesn't have a life worth living, and so will waste it trying to ruin yours. Think about it: If we assume an arbitrary value of 1 unit of effort spent to prevent 1 unit of trolling, that 1:1 ratio doesn't look at all appealing to someone who has (say) a wonderful wife and a career in Economics to persue. But the ratio is far worse than that, it's probably in the ratio of 5:1... and Atrios, or anyone else, does not have 5 lives to waste because this troll has nothing in his 1 life but attacking Eschaton. And why should Atrios have to pay that level of emotional/time cost simply for displaying information of

Gravatar....
And why should Atrios have to pay that level of emotional/time cost simply for displaying information of the kind the vast majority of his audience wants? Don't we all (bar one) think Atrios deserves his peace and quiet at times?

Well, Registration will ease that ratio considerably, although perhaps he doesn't believe it now... All he needs to do is type "/ban VRWC" when it becomes obvious it's a sockpuppet. VRWC actually had to register that name with a valid email account, and then use it in such a way as to avoid being banned, but then he has to register all over again when he fails. If he's also had the IP VRWC posts from banned (1 more line of effort for Atrios), he needs to make sure he always posts on under his new Identity with a new IP: And multiple user name trolling sessions are foiled too, unless he logs out as one, and then back in as another...

And finally for now, watch this jive... Our trolling pal will make some cheap point about how I can both think and type quickly and verbosely. Perhaps he'll mention the 3,000 word limit. And would Eschaton really be so much poorer off if the author of such posts were banned? Sure, he will eventually come back... but in the meantime, you'll have had time to get out 3,000 words of your own... without me replying to his either. Doesn't it sound just divine, compared to what we have now, eh?

Vote for Registration today: Another vote the Trolls will hate you making!

And make team PHAT the moderators for extra Troll goading goodness!

Gravatarcould someone please repost the contents of the link (or at least a summary?) the thread has been pulled. Thanks!

GravatarIs this something that someone can refind using Google Cache? (I don't know how to do this, myself...)

Gravatara daily posting quota -- now that's a great call. mr nemesis, fyi ive never used a proxy server in my life . I also think its amazing you really think there is only one troll whose number you have. does it never occur to you that post after self congratulating meandering post does nothing but waste Atrios' server space, and his readers time including my own?? \\

GravatarWhat was the post? Post been removed from Free Republic. Please repeat the post

Gravatar'does it never occur to you that post after self congratulating meandering post does nothing but waste Atrios' server space, and his readers time including my own?? \\'

Which is why I say we need a registeration system! Thank you folks, he'll be here all day!

GravatarTo: americas nemesis:

You prove my point not your own.

You demonstrate that asshats like yourself have no compunction whatsover about violating privacy and that registration would do little or nothing to stop trolls.

Please continue I find you amusing.

GravatarFor those who wish to find a cache of the FR thread, hit Ctrl+F, type "rasputina" and hit Enter, and then click on the Homepage displayed in that post.

And thanks to Rasputina for saving the thread for posterity - I'm sure there is a Google cache, but this one's within the Eschaton thread.

GravatarAN, I think the only qualifier I'd put on the registration system would be that there'd have to be some way of using the email addresses as identifiers w/o necessarily giving them away to spambots (my main reason for not posting an email address in comments here)... otherwise, it's as good a system as any. Not sure about calling all anonymi trolls, tho': "Nameless Lurker" might be more apt.

Gravatar"Yes, they are small men with smaller penises in sore need of a diversion."

You know I wish you would quit lumping all small penis owners in with those kooks. It's not a liberal attitude, Dammit!

I admit I have a small penis and I am not a Freeper! On a good day I can barely get it to ten or ten-and-a-half inches! And it's not funny! So, stop with the jokes already.
