I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

GravatarFuture poll:

After the Republican convention this week, do you support George W. Bush a lot more, or a whole lot more?

Gravatardid rudy's speech make you adore george bush, love him, or merely fond of him?

GravatarExtraordinary. I had to read it about six times to believe it was real.

GravatarQ: are Republicans:

a) stellar
or
b) fantastic?

Vote now!

GravatarNow that's just fucking assinine.

How about option c.-

It make me want to projectile vomit.

Gravatarwtf?

Did you already bow down before GWB or did it take Giuliani's speech to reveal the truth that you must bow down to GWB to you?

GravatarDid it make you vomit or loose your bowels?

GravatarIt reassured me that Giuliani is as big of a hypocrite as I thought.

Gravatar"Do you agree that John Kerry is a joke, or a menace?"

GravatarNeedless to say, when I saw that earlier this morning, I didn't vote.

Better choices, please.

Gravatarfunny - i just posted asking what they're talking about on a previous thread.

GravatarI actually laughed for at least 60 seconds of pure guffaw after seeing that.

No outrage. No four letter words. Just pure, unadulterated laughter.

It's official. I have gone off the deep end.

Buh bye.

GravatarThank you MSGOP for the choices on your poll. I selected (F) More convinced that the frightniks at the GOP will stop at nothing to pander to the basest fears of the public.

GravatarUnreal. Surreal. Future real.

Gravatar"Will John Kerry steal the election, or will George W. Bush win honestly?"

GravatarIs Gulianni a sycophantic ass-kisser or just an idiot. You decide.

GravatarWasn't that poll last seen in 1984?

GravatarHeads he wins, tails I lose... Damn liberal media.

Seriously, I thought his speech was little more than Republican talking points delivered in the colloquial style of an uncle who can't stand to not be the center of attention. I guess that's what passes for sincere these days.

GravatarTruly shameless. The folks at MSNBC are showing their colors. With stupid things like this poll, they demonstrate they cater to Republicans.

GravatarIs the person who creates polls for MSNBC a sycophantic ass-kisser or just an idiot. You decide.

GravatarFuck them.

We need to make our own chioces.

GravatarThe terrorists have won.

GravatarSomeone needs to hack their db so that all results read "throw up inside my mouth a little".

Apologies if this has been raised already, but apparently the War on Drugs' very own Saddam Hussein appears to be George Soros, if Dennis Hastert is to be believed:

"You know, I don't know where George Soros gets his money. I don't know where -- if it comes overseas or from drug groups or where it comes from," Hastert mused. An astonished Chris Wallace asked: "Excuse me?" The Speaker went on: "Well, that's what he's been for a number years -- George Soros has been for legalizing drugs in this country. So, I mean, he's got a lot of ancillary interests out there." Wallace: "You think he may be getting money from the drug cartel?" Hastert: "I'm saying I don't know where groups - could be people who support this type of thing. I'm saying we don't know."

GravatarMSNBC should rename itself Fox News for Dummies

GravatarSo...it's official. A one party state.

Gravatar"Do you love soft fuzzy puppies, warm freshly-baked apple pie, and the greatest American hero George W. Bush; or are you a latte-sipping, Volvo-driving granola-crunching anti-American islamo-fascist traitor who wants Terrorism to win with John Kerry?"

GravatarIs it more American to:

A) Love Republicans

or

B) Hate Democrats?

Gravatarmccain is beyond slimey. he said on cnn that his michael moore quip was 'just a throwaway line'. and in fact his real message is just the opposite -- that we're all americans..yada yada.

but then, he's also quoted as saying it was such a good line, he's going to use it again.

what a scumbag.

GravatarThe Republican convention sure supports diversity don't they?

One one hand they have people who think W is doing a excellent job.

On the other hand they have people who think W is doing a MAGNIFICENT job.

Excuse me I have to go hurl.

GravatarWhoops. Broke the format on the last one. There was actually a choice...

That's Faux for you.

On Sunday Krauthammer was arguing that Republicans are more tolerant because they allow those arguing for tolerance to speak as well as those who are for intolerance.

The Democrats were less tolerant because they simply assumed we should be tolerant and were not sympathetic to those who wished to be intolerant

GravatarThe MSGOP poll reassures me that the media is a complete tool of the Retards and moves me to support breakup of the media concentration as a major priority.

Also moves me to think that major boycotts of significant advertisers is the ONLY way we are going to get some responsibility. They have to feel it in the ass-pockets - poking sharply into their bought-and-paid-for stinky butts.

GravatarI have a slight problem. I am actually kind of curious to see what the results of this poll are so far, but the only way to see would be to actually participate in it. Does anyone have another way around it?

GravatarYou know, enough of the bitching, moaning and hand-wringing. We all do it all the time on this site.

Get out there this weekend and register some likely Democratic voters. I've signed up over 30 of them myself; several thousand have been signed up by the group I'm working with here in this part of the state, and close to 10,000 state wide. Get out there this weekend and sign some folks up, and get the info on how to contact them to remind them to go vote. One weekend of your time. If everyone who reads this site would sign up just 5 new voters (easy to do in one day) and turn them out, that's what, another 250,000 votes for Kerry? Just get out there and do it. Don't wait; many places require that a person register 6 weeks prior to the election. That means you still have 2 weeks left to make a difference. Don't soft-peddle; explain to young black and Hispanic men that another 4 years of Bush means a probably draft. You don't even have to tell them they will be the first to go - they know it already. Tell their mothers, girlfriends, etc the same. Use Obama's words: "whether you're a performer making millions of dollars or a burger cook at Mickey D's, Uncle Sam is taking money from every paycheck you earn. The people elected will decide whether that money goes to build more schools, or more prisons. Whether it goes to improve life for you in your community with new streets, firehouses, etc, or whether it goes to pad the pockets of private contractors building streets, firehouses, etc, in Iraq. You're paying for this war with money from every paycheck you earn; you may be asked to pay with your life as well if we don't get a change in leadership. This is about your life and your future."

Just get out there and do it. My goal is another 20 - 25 voters this weekend. What's yours?

GravatarC'mon guys, what do you expect from the cable news network that gave us Scabrous Kuntry? They gave a show to Michael "Savage" Weiner, for chrissakes!

GravatarMake good of it for yourselves now, Media.

GravatarIf you use Mozilla or Firefox as your browser, M$NBC polls don't work (have to maintain M$ hegemony, you know).

With these broswers you see only the results, but are unable to vote.

One of the many benefits of the mighty FireFox.

GravatarMcCain is going into the Duck Pit, now. No question. There is no redemption, there are no appeals.

He's sold his soul, he now has to face the consequences.

GravatarI'm wondering if the other choices aren't missing because of an HTML problem. They're probably doing it in Frontpage.

GravatarI agree with Pete. We need to email and call to let them know how idiotic that 'question' is and maybe to make inquiries whether they plan to have Democrats sitting there to critique Cheney/Bush speeches.

GravatarVote and you can respond with a message such as this one I posted:

*****

I think your question was assinine. Am I reassured or supportive? Why not ask if I love the Republicans now, or simply adore them?

How is this for a future poll question, "the Mass Media: suck-ups or sycophants?"

GravatarI think Kerry needs to raise the spector of a military draft in Bush's next term.

I think Kerry needs to issue a commercial in which he promises not to enact a military draft unless the United States is directly attacked by a foreign power.

"In a Kerry administration, your children and your grandchildren will not be subjected to manditory military service unless the United States is under direct attack by our enemies. America can and will be defended by our brave volunteer service men and women.

Look at your sons and daughters, and your grandchildren... and realize that the Bush administration is in the planning stages for a military draft. The neocon extremists, who have hijacked our foreign policy, are intent on regime change in Iran, and a military draft in Bush's second term is virtually assured."

GravatarIt's in my retirement package, that I get to toss in the periodic eye thumb.

GravatarSend your displeasure to GeneralComments@feedback.msnbc.com. I did, attaching a screen shot of the 'poll.'

GravatarIt could be a typo. Remember when MSNBC inaccurately spelled Niger Innis' first name?

GravatarUsually on the question of the day MSGOP gives you an option to comment on the question. I wonder why there isn't any opportunity to do that on this ridiculous fucking query.

GravatarAlong with just the grass roots, Jennifer, the Dem Party has to start playing hardball. If they don't, we lose. Unfortunately, negative ads, whether lies or not, work, and the Republicans go for effect, not truth.

When Kerry beat Dean in Ohio, the Deanies screamed about his hardball tactics. What's Kerry going to do about Bush?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5853.../site/newsweek/

Jonathan Alter: "The year 2004 was supposed to be when Democrats found their fighting spirit. Howard Dean's early success convinced Kerry and the rest of the Washington Democrats that only a feisty, give-'em-hell campaign had any chance of success. But Kerry's one tough race, against moderate Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld in 1996, may not have fully prepared him for the task. While Clinton faced real conservatives in the Hobbesian world of Southern politics, Kerry hails from a state where Michael Dukakis was seen as a tough guy.

If Kerry loses, the Washington Democratic establishment may be done, too. Fire-breathing liberals, mirror images of the ideologues on the right, will take over the party, likely dooming it to yet more defeat in a country that is fundamentally moderate. Kerry can prevent that by finding his voice and finally crystallizing his indictment of Bush in a few words that voters can actually remember. None of them need be about the Vietnam War."

GravatarLooks like at this point, 74% of Americans were reassured by Giuliani's speech, while 26% were moved to vote for Bush. Kerry better run some asinine polls of his own if he ever wants to make up that 50-point lead...

GravatarListen people of the blog.

Kerry is not just off message with talking points but with image points.

What the hell is he doing wind surfing?

Before you say well what the hell is wrong with that? Remeber, this guy is RICH and has to appeal to a cross range of voters with high to low incomes. How can you reach the people with that image. (all over the news) Kerry has yet to connect emotionally with the middle class. He has yet to convince them he will take care of them. I know he says it but he is not helping his cause with that wind surfing. This guy just does not get it. Bush is a farmer, yeah he is a fake farmer but people buy the regular guy image. Kerry has got to pull his shit together from Wed to the election day.

GravatarYou know, enough of the bitching, moaning and hand-wringing. We all do it all the time on this site.

Amen, sister.

I'm sick of the hand-wringing and excuses. Maybe more than anything else, I just don't find it to be a useful emotion.

Frequently these past few days, when people raise concerns about the Kerry media campaign, they are either chided for not having sufficient faith in Kerry, or being defeatist or some such. This is nonsense.

First of all, faith has nothing to do with it. Faith in their fearless leader is what the Right does--it's not my bag. We have plenty of historical precident that should lead any thoughtful activist to be skeptical about the Dems--they've rolled over time and again in the last 29 years. So it's important for us to keep letting them know that we don't want to be hung out to dry this time. We are ready to do our part, and we deserve to know that the leadership is prepared to do its part.

Secondly, what's really defeatist is to keep talking as if The Media is a scary monolithic monster that we can have no impact on. The fact is, we need to keep pressing Kerry and let them know that we want a muscular campaign. We need to keep working the media refs. We need to keep being creative with the media, especially the media we have available to us. And above all, we need to TAKE IT OFFLINE.

More feet on the ground will win this for us, whether Fox News likes it or not.

GravatarThe disgusting Richard Cohen compares and contrasts.

http://tinyurl.com/7xqgj

McCain, merely by speaking the truth, seemed virtually luminescent, a Roman candle of a political figure...he country would be better served by contrasting McCain to the man who wanted his services as vice president and, foiled in that, could at least use him as a role model. I am speaking, of course, of Kerry, who should use the hiatus of the GOP convention to figure out how to speak plainly to the American people. At the moment, the Democratic nominee seems to be speaking from under water. He has to do better than glub, glub.

You gotta giggle at the nonsense.

Either by happenstance or design, I've been with John McCain for three nights in a row and have watched the magic he works on people. At a dinner the other evening, someone asked the secret of his appeal. A colleague and I looked at each other in disbelief. It's his honesty, his willingness to (mostly) say precisely what's on his mind. He just clears his throat and says what has to be said. John Kerry ought to try it. It could make him president.

Surprise! Richard Cohen pimping John McCain. Has William Kristol been whispering sweet nothings in Cohen’s ears? Nah...the guy's on autopilot.

GravatarMy letter to MSNBC:

To Whom It May Concern;

While you may come in for criticism from some quarters, I want to say that I appreciated today's poll question, which gave us the choice between being reassured by Rudy Guliani's speech or being moved to support the Bush/Cheney ticket. Some will try to tell you that this choice is biased. I respectfully disagree. Why bother muddying the waters with stark choices that might reflect negatively on Republicans, when it is so easy to provide two overlapping alternatives that are guaranteed to make my inner conservative feel all warm and fuzzy? There is far too much critical thinking and nay-saying in this country, and if the major media insist on limiting our options and ability to express our true opinions, I say "Hear, Hear"! This country would be in a much better condition if people simply turned off their brains and and let the media tell us how we're allowed to think. Kudos to you!

GravatarI became this cynical after fighting so hard to save Americans from themselves only to find out, they're not worth saving.

GravatarI have no idea why I typed "the last 29 years". Anyway: last few decades or something.

GravatarI sent this to GeneralComments

As a person who has written more than his share of survey questions, I am not sure if I should be amused at the incompetence or appalled at the bias in your polls. They are as bad as Senate Majority leader Bill Frist's fake polls.

As a quick lesson: In general, usable poll questions should allow a range of responses. Your current question, kind of along the lines of "Is W right, or is he really really right" is a farce.

People might actually take you seriously if you do a better job of hiding your obvious biases!

GravatarThe poll results were 75% reasured 25% Bush backer.

Ass chumps.

GravatarIn the interest of combatting some of the negativity I think we've all been hit with after the hate-fest last evening...may I call your attention to Mr. Barak Obama's closing remarks from last month:

In the end, that's what this election is about. Do we participate in a politics of cynicism or a politics of hope? John Kerry calls on us to hope.

John Edwards calls on us to hope. I'm not talking about blind optimism here -- the almost willful ignorance that thinks unemployment will go away if we just don't talk about it, or the health care crisis will solve itself if we just ignore it. No, I'm talking about something more substantial. It's the hope of slaves sitting around a fire singing freedom songs; the hope of immigrants setting out for distant shores; the hope of a young naval lieutenant bravely patrolling the Mekong Delta; the hope of a millworker's son who dares to defy the odds; the hope of a skinny kid with a funny name who believes that America has a place for him, too. The audacity of hope! In the end, that is God's greatest gift to us, the bedrock of this nation; the belief in things not seen; the belief that there are better days ahead. I believe we can give our middle class relief and provide working families with a road to opportunity. I believe we can provide jobs to the jobless, homes to the homeless, and reclaim young people in cities across America from violence and despair. I believe that as we stand on the crossroads of history, we can make the right choices, and meet the challenges that face us. America! Tonight, if you feel the same energy I do, the same urgency I do, the same passion I do, the same hopefulness I do -- if we do what we must do, then I have no doubt that all across the country, from Florida to Oregon, from Washington to Maine, the people will rise up in November, and John Kerry will be sworn in as president, and John Edwards will be sworn in as vice president, and this country will reclaim its promise, and out of this long political darkness a brighter day will come. Thank you and God bless you.

GravatarI sent 'em the following:

George Orwell meets Gallup. If "reassure" means "reassure me that George W. Bush should not be given another 4 years", then "reassure" works for me.

GravatarI'm reassured about my vote for Kerry in November.

GravatarTrust Kerry to turn his boat into the line of fire as soon as the real campaign begins post this hatefest -
It was a lot like '92 last night and all Americans are not kool-aid drinkers and will take notice - using 9/11 for political purposes is not forgivable
- Kerry's going to kick it off in Ohio right after the chimpster delivers his speech Thursday
- Make like Jennifer and do the grassroots stuff - It works - don't forget to inundate the media with what you think of their coverage - that works too -
And attaturk that is just disgusting but nothing anymore is unbelievable - Sisyphus is on that story and other good stuff too

GravatarThey're not. So let's see what comes afterwards.

GravatarI broke down and voted, I had to know what the totals were. Reassured is leading 74% to 26%. I just have to wonder what that means.

GravatarIt's a loaded pol, and a dishonest one to boot. Choice c.) should have been Repulsed By All The Above

GravatarBRING BACK THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE!

GravatarI know that Iran comes afterwards.

Gravatarso many choices.

GravatarI had to vote just to see where it was going, and to send a message. "Reassure" seemed the lesser of two evils. Then I responded on their online form:

"The choices were inappropriate - either one could be interpreted as approving the Republican Party's message. So, as useless as online polls are, this one is one of the most useless I've ever seen."

GravatarThis has been the big front page splash on CNN's site all morning.

Bush lauded as bold, decisive

"President Bush's resolve in defeating terrorism was praised by speakers at Monday's Republican National Convention. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani said Bush "sees world terrorism for the evil that it is," while Democratic opponent John Kerry has no such clear vision."

OK, I give up. George W Bush is the kindest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known.

GravatarAs far as being gay and how bad it would be: We've suffered the worst imaginable for centuries and we're still here so chances are we'll still be around. We can still go back in the closet and hide from heteros.

GravatarI sent the following letter to MSNBC, and I hope that many others will do something similar. "I can't believe you really meant this question to be taken seriously by anyone:

"Did Rudy Giuliani's speech reassure you or move you to support the Bush-Cheney ticket?"

With my two choices being {a} reassure or (b} support Bush-Cheney ticket.

In my case, and I gather in many more instances, Giuliani's speech did neither. What it did was convince me that this not so subtle use of 9/11 is a travesty and in the worst taste imaginable.

Michael R. H. Swanson, Ph. D."

GravatarThat is hilarious...

GravatarMy letter to the Editor

Dear Sirs,

Your question of the day is somewhat befuddling, as Mayor Giuliani's speech neither reassured me nor moved me to support President Bush. The Mayor's speech, as well as Senator McCain's and the spectacle of the 9/11 widows, deliberately and shamelessly blurred the lines between 9/11 patriotism and Republicanism. The victims and heroes of 9/11 deserve better than being political props. The choices in your question do not account for these feelings that I have. In fact your question assumes that everyone who reads it 1) either supported Bush before the speech or 2) supports him now.

Better choices please
Boston

GravatarThe question is not unlike the choices the corporate media are ramming down our throats:

"Do you support the conservative pro-corporate party, or the liberal pro-corporate party?"

The way to answer "none of the above" is to vote for Ralph Nader or The Green Party. Actually these alternatives are better than "none of the above" for the following reasons:

1) Your non-corporate vote helps to build an alternative to the corporate parties that are taking us to war, exporting our jobs, and helping their corporate contributors gouge us for their rich owners.

2) Your non-corporate vote helps to qualify an alternative party for matching Federal funds in the next election.

3) Your non-corporate vote avoids giving the corporate parties undeserved credibility.

4) Your non-corporate vote tells the statisticians of the corporate parties WHY they lost your vote. This influences them more than if you vote for them; they'll just take your vote for granted.

5) Your non-corporate vote helps to raise issues the corporate parties won't talk about, like a single-payer healthcare system.

Don’t play the corporations’ rigged game!

GravatarHey folks

here's a poll we can get behind, on www.boston.com:

Do you approve of the use of Sept. 11-related imagery at the Republican National Convention?

GravatarGood Christ. J. Jonah Jameson is running MSNBC's web polls. "Spider-Man: Threat Or Menace?"

GravatarAs of 1:04 pm MSNBC appears to have taken down the poll. I doubt we'll see any acknowledgment of it.

GravatarNew Poll up in place. Go freep the fuck out of it!

GravatarAlan8: Why do you insist on banging the drum for a known GOP operative?

GravatarNew poll:

Did Rudy Giuliani's speech move you to support the Bush-Cheney ticket? * 611 responses

Yes 40%

No 60%

GravatarAs of 1:14, with the vote running 58-42 against Bush, MSGOP has removed the poll entirely from their site.

GravatarThe poll is still there when I click on atrios' link.

GravatarI hope someone got a screen capture of that original poll. That was unbelievable.

I sent the link to it to some folks, and got back all these befuddled emails asking why I was so freaked out about what seems to be an ordinary news poll. I go back, they've changed the feaking thing, and now I think I've been hallucinating, except other people have seen it too, as the comments here prove.

Urrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh! It's too early in the morning for a double. Maybe a single, or about three or four samosas. That's it. Samosas. I'm going to go get brunch-ified now...

Gravatari sort of wish the poll was meaningful, since i read it as 55-45 for Kerry.

Gravatari sort of wish the poll was meaningful, since i read it as 55-45 for Kerry. And that is within the population of knuckle-draggers and freepers who actually participate in on-line polls,

GravatarCongratulations Posters. MSNBC has changed the poll; I truly believe that your comments shamed them into it.

Gravatar"Matthews is just another liar for Bush"

I cannot figure him out. See this from the transcript of Aug 27 appearance on Bill Maher show

http://www.safesearching.com/ bil...time_082704.htm

MATTHEWS: All they're going to have is him as their president. That's all they get out of these guys. And my answer is, you want to think about this election more seriously? Vote Bush, vote Kerry, but think about this: do you really want the country to go in the direction they're taking you or say they're going to take you for the next ten or 20 years? Raise the stakes. That'll make it easier for the undecided voter.

If you can't decide based on what you've heard, think about this: do you want to continue on the road of basically being go-it-alone in the world? I mean, Tony Blair will be gone soon. Musharraf will be gone soon. Then we'll be completely alone in the world. Do you want to go to an economy that's basically geared toward tax cuts for people who have a lot of income, and the working class and the middle class gradually disappear? Well, you know which party that is.

If you want to go to a party that is a little more hesitant, this president – if we elect John Kerry president, he will be hesitant about going to war. He will be careful. In fact, he'll probably wait around to hear what the French think. And if that bothers you, vote for Bush. It's easy. But these stakes are big.

Do you want health research for the next 20 years or do you want the same diseases we have now in 20 years? I mean, think about it. [applause] I think there's an argument for the Republicans, but it's a long-term argument for both sides, and people ought to make – how can you be undecided about Bush and Kerry? I don't get it. These guys offer radically different approaches.

MAHER: All right. Thank you very much. I appreciate you being with us and I'll see you on your show soon, I hope.

It seems like maybe he just panders to whoever he thinks the audience is.

GravatarIs John Ashcroft:

(A) A stalwart defender of Americans' security, or
(B) A stalwart defender of Americans' civil liberties?

Vote now! Katherine Harris is standing by to count the votes!

GravatarAlan8: Why do you insist on banging the drum for a known GOP operative?
Gary Frazier

Ralph Nader is and has been a consumers' and citizen’s activist for over 30 years.

Recently some wealthy Republicans have contributed to his campaign, and helped collect signatures, to drain support from the Democratic candidate.

Some people are too stupid to tell the difference between someone who backs corporate Republican interests and someone who backs citzens' interests who Republicans are donating to.

Anyone who's interested can look at www.votenader.org to see the issues Ralph Nader is supporting. (Why don't you do this right now, Gary, before typing any more of your ignorant blather.)

Keep in mind that rich Republicans can donate to ANY progressive candidate. Does this mean they can invalidate ALL progressives just by taking out their checkbooks? Does this mean you're going to let rich Republicans decide who you can and can't vote for?

Ralph Nader's campaign is important because it gives us an alternative to the pro-corporate policies of Bush and Kerry.

Bush and Kerry favor profits for the HMOs and pharmaceutical corporations over citizens' health care. Why? Because these corporations donated tens of millions of dollars to their campaigns. Ralph Nader is calling for a single-payer healthcare system

Bush and Kerry favor profits for corporations that do manufacturing over American workers' standard of living. Neither will pull out of NAFTA or the WTO, but Ralph Nader will.

These are just two examples of how Ralph Nader represents citizens' interests, and is a real alternative to the two corporate shills dominating the media. Think about this before any more of your ignorant Nader-bashing.

GravatarOk Alan8,
Either Bush or Kerry will be elected president on November 2, but Ralph Nader will not. You can choose to vote for someone who has a 0% chance of being elected if you like, but you might just as well stay home on election day.
Ralph Nader chose to leave his name on the ballot (as a green no less- the least environmentally friendly thing he could have done!!!) when it was clear that the Bush/Gore election was tied. He is doing it again and still says he sees no difference between the Repub and Demo candidates. I would recommend that you actually see if their are any differences you can discern between these two men. Look at their records on the environment, education, foreign policy, and economic policy. Instead of repeating the no difference drivel look and try to find a candidate that is closest to your values, because one of those two men will be our next president. If you are in the "bring on the apocalypse because then everyone will become a progressive camp"- well then you are an idiot and you deserve to throw your vote away.

GravatarTo make it simple for Alan8:

NADER = BUSH

Their philosophies might not be the same.

But the practical results are.

Gravatar1. A candidate can produce positive changes without winning. The classic example of this is H. Ross Perot, who made the deficit an issue in 1992. He didn't win, but something was done about the issue he raised.

2. Staying home on election day will help neither Nader's party nor the Green Party qualify for Federal matching funds. It also won't send a pro-citizen message to the corporate parties, because they don't know WHY you didn't vote for them.

3. Ralph Nader didn't say there's no difference between the corporate parties; you've been lied to. There is, however, little difference on some of the most important issues affecting us. When it comes down to citizens vs. corporate profits, Bush and Kerry choose the corporations every time.

On the issues you raise, there's not as much difference as you seem to think. They both support the invasion and the continuing occupation of Iraq. They both support policies that allow corporations to continue exporting our jobs to low-wage countries. They both oppose environmental laws that interfere with corporate profits. Neither supports a national living wage. (I'm not familiar with their positions on education).

4. It's about more than just the next election.

We want someone who will support the Bill of Rights -- Kerry, like Bush supports (and voted for) the USA Patriot Act. We want someone who will not allow corporations to make US workers compete with third-world workers who make a dollar a day. We want someone who will speak out about the Soviet-style government and media the corporations are forcing on us.

We're not going to get any of this voting for either corporate shill. We get shills like this because people, like you, continue to vote for them, only thinking about the next election.

We can take control of the country back from the corporations, but it's going to take several elections. There are enough of us who refuse to vote for a "Republican-lite" Democrat to show them they're risking the election by selling us out to the corporations.

This will give them a strong incentive to change their "business-first" agenda. The Democrats are conspiring with the Republicans to take away our jobs, our health care, and our civil liberties -- How much more damage do they have to do before you realize they're selling us out to the rich, just like the Republicans?

5. Another benefit of voting progressive is it shows the Democrats they'll lose millions more votes if they move even farther to the right. If it weren't for this implicit threat, what's stopping them from acting even more like Republicans, and getting even more corporate money?

The only reason they get away with such pro-corporate candidates is they con people into thinking only of the next election. We have to make a stand, and reject the corporations’ rigged game, and the pro-corporate choices they have selected for us.

GravatarSomewhere in the ninth circle, Jerry Nachman is looking at this morning's MSNBC poll and grinning...

Gravatarslightly ot: thank god the olympics are over and my basic satellite has deleted MSNBC from my viewing options. I don't think I could watch that "stellar" line up of Tweety, the Exjock and Facelift Norville another minute.

GravatarMSGOP designs poll questions for the sort of people who go out of their way to take a survey, only to answer "Don't Know" to just about every question. In other words, total fucking morons.
