Gravatarif it were only real....

Gravatar"Yeah, I got yer seven minutes right here, pal."

GravatarFunny. Really funny.

Not at all conducive to rational discourse in this country, no, but...

...damned funny, all the same...

GravatarAtrios is drunk....he should be watching PBS, listening to the first-person accounts of WTC survivors.

Bush or no Bush it's an amazing set of stories.

GravatarChimpy lets his true feelings about America slip...

He's the Smiler come to life...

GravatarShocked.... stunned....

GravatarI believe Bush and his neocon cohorts are responsible both for failing to take the warnings of the impending attacks seriously, and for increasing the subsequent danger of future attacks by diverting resources to an unrelated invasion of Iraq.

But today, I think that's enough.

Gravatargotta love bobo, our preznut, even when he's in a crowd he looks airbrushed in

GravatarHey, it's as true as that shot of Kerry onstage with Jane Fonda.

GravatarNow THIS is the way to respond to the "middle of the road" trolls!

You rock - I've been wondering what happened to the liberal economists ever since Friedman stumbled on to the scene.

GravatarIf you don't have a heart, where do you put your hand?

GravatarHmmmm....one detects a whiff of desperation coming from the left nowadays. Taking solace in fake photos, and trying to make points off of forged docs.

Oh well, I will let you guys get back to self destructing

GravatarIt would have been better if everyone in the photo was giving the finger.

GravatarYeah, having Kerry back within the one point days after the RNC, we're crying ourselves to sleep every night.

Bush bounces like a deflated basketball.

GravatarThe right sure can't take a joke. Must be sad to lack a sense of humor.

Gravatarsy hersh on CSPAN is painting a really really bleak picture in iraq

this whole terrible episode needs to be tied around bobo's neck and he needs to self-strangulate over this mess

GravatarHmmm, have to say I think this one is a bit too juvenile, considering the context. Not really very funny.

GravatarThis photo is indeed offensive and shocking, but I'm not changing my previous stance. As far as I'm concerned, talking about Jenna's abortion, Georgie's pedophilia, and Laura's physical abuse of her on-again, off-again lesbian lover is still uncalled for.

GravatarDisgusting, just disgusting. What will the children think?

GravatarAlmost as funny as the now proven fake "Daschal left-hand over heart photo". Really this is not how you win the debate.

Gravatar[[snerk]] Now we know where he keeps his heart ...

Or maybe he's doing like the crew of the USS Pueblo and saying "Help! Get me out of here! They're torturing me!"

GravatarIf you can reproduce that on early 1970s equipment I'll be impressed!

GravatarIt's not forged: the digits don't match or line up exactly.

GravatarSitting in Harajuku, central Tokyo, signing up voters left and right, okay so not the "right" ones, seems like a lot of southerners. of the 20 I did last weekend 18 where from the south. ALL democrats.

GravatarI didn't catch that the first time.

Gravatarand 5 southerners tomorrow. its like the southern democrats are waking up or something.

GravatarAtrios,

Thanks for the tip on Nellie McKay. Picked up her album today & am enjoying it a lot.

Cheers!

GravatarAnd the site the DNC made for us OverseasVote2004.com is getting 2,000 a day... a day...

Mars, my little bitches!

GravatarCheap shots only work with an element of truth.

There are some very sad realities hidden behind this photoshop satire.

GravatarC'mon, it's just a frat-boy prank.

The prez has a sense of humor.

GravatarDomo arigoto Sonicsan!

Gravatarand at 20:1 the comments and "gestures" I get are pro-Kerry, pro-fuck-bush. I have gotten only 2 "sneers".

GravatarOT. I'm watching a 9/11 Never Forget Kind of thing on MSNBC and they keep interrupting it with flash bulletins about the green zone getting mortared from Sadr City.

Very weird.

GravatarAtrios, I happen to believe that is a forgery. There is no way the cameras of this morning would have the capability to take that picture! The ratio of height to width of the image is MODERN, as in was invented today, around 9:13pm, when it was DARK in DC!!! Sorry guys, hate to burst your bubble, but this picture is a fake. I am registering my concerns with the littlegreenballz and the freepers right now... You and your DNC backers won't get away with this!!! You're going down, moonbat, and you're taking Kerry (who no doubt authorized the FRAUDULENT pic!) with you!

Gravataroh.. new freeper/RNC talking point/meme... we are Safer, but not safe.

stupid fucks...

GravatarWe make fun of Nedra but does anybody remember Kelli Arena, she said something about Bin Laden being for Kerry. She was the first one I heard on CNN starting the "Safer, but not safe" crap.

GravatarHALDEMAN: They're all... that's the whole thing. The Washington Post said it in it's lead editorial today. Another "McGovern's got to change his position," and that that would be a good thing, that's constructive. Ah, the white wash for change.

PRESIDENT: Post prints the news so they'll say that is perfectly all right.

HALDEMAN: Cause then they are saying...on the other hand... that maybe we're not so smart. We have to admire the progress he's made on the basis of the position he's taken and maybe he's right and we're wrong.

PRESIDENT: To be very (unintelligible) (laughs).

HALDEMAN: Sitting in Miami played into our hand a little bit.

PRESIDENT: No.

Gravatar... we are Safer, but not safe.

stupid fucks...

Our "catastrophic success" has ushered in a grand new era of "secure peril."

GravatarDead cats bounce higher than Bush's numbers after the RNC.

I should know.

Here, kitty, kitty.

Gravataroh and some moran on Larry King's terrorism "panel" was saying that if we remain strong the terrarist's will just give up. I assume he has read "The Mind of a Terrarist" by Ima Moran.

GravatarOur "catastrophic success" has ushered in a grand new era of "secure peril."
Mustard is Evil | Email | Homepage | 09.11.04 - 11:18 pm | #

BTW. Is anybody keeping an archive of all of the terrorism scare crap.

In 25 years (if we're lucky) it's going to seem as dated as "Reefer Madness" and "Duck and Cover."

You're going to have middle-aged people denying furiously that they were ever afraid of the International Islamofascist Conspiracy of Nasty Brown People Who Want to Kill them.

You're also going to have liberals like Josh Marshall jockying for position over who was against the war first.

GravatarGlorious Leader sez "fuck you."

Lord knows that finger wasn't in Pickles.

.

GravatarHe's out of practice on the proper salute--Looks like he's missed some drills.

GravatarI assume he has read "The Mind of a Terrarist" by Ima Moran.

No, it was Under the Bleachers by Seymore Butts. An Amazon bestseller, right next to "My Pet Goat".

GravatarSWR, you're such an optimist.

GravatarLord knows that finger wasn't in Pickles.

Pickles? He eats pickles with that finger?!

Ewwwwwww!!!!

(for the record: this photograph is juvenile and entirely in bad taste.

Which makes it damned funny!)

Gravatarthats right Mustard, we are exactly enough safer to keep bush, but not safe enough to vote kerry, apparently if we vote for democrat, there will be piles of dead babies in our living rooms, blown there from the suitcase bombs the iranians have. oh and saddam was evil.

Gravatarwith so many people believing this photo is real, many who are very bright and informed people, I must conclude that I cannot be certain that this photo is doctored in anyway. Now there is another photo showing quite a different pose, yet one has to wonder who might do such a thing. There two sides afterall. The Bush camp would like us to believe that there are 5 fingers present. The Kerry camp, that hand is "flipping the bird" . I just don't know. 2 sides afterall. Atrios reports, YOU deceide.

GravatarI just watched The Deer Hunter. I wonder when the Iraq or Afghanistan evacuation begins...

Gravatarwhy is the guy behind bush (to the left) reaching for his glock?

GravatarSWR, you're such an optimist.
queen crab | Email | Homepage | 09.11.04 - 11:24 pm | #

We got through McCarthy.

We'll get through Bush.

We got through the John Birch Society.

We'll get through Little Green Freepballs.

GravatarI think that middle finger is "kerned," meaning it must have been flipped in the future.

GravatarWhy does w hate America?

GravatarA surprising moment of candor from the president.

What has this man done for the victims, and families of victims, of 9-11?

1) Ignored a PDB that warned of this type of threat
2) Fought tooth and nail against the call for an investition (i.e., the 9-11 commission)
3) Appointed Henry Kissinger (??!) to lead the aforementioned commission when it was clear that it was political suicide to continue opposing it
4) Used the tragedy to attack a country that had nothing to do with the events of that tragic day.
5) Exploited (and continues to exploit) the victims of 9-11 for his 2004 campaign.

I know I'm missing many things here, but my point is that you folks who are suggesting this photo is disrespectful need to understand that Bush has pissed on the victims of 9-11 at every turn.

Yeah, he didn't literally flip anyone off, but look at his damn record!

Gravatarsomebody please tell me that this is a doctored photo.........disgusting, even if it is not real. He's an opportunist asshole. Still, I wouldn't put this kind of thing past monkeyboy.

GravatarOT: but, "Children of the Kern" from yesterday was the snap-pop, line to drop.

Gravatarbelay my last comment.......didn't scroll down. Bad Webhead!

Gravatarthe real picture was offensive, this one's damn funny!

GravatarOh and Steve Gilliard has a great post up about the digby post, about the Children of the Kern.

GravatarThere's a web site offering $10,000 to anyone who can reproduce a copy of Bush order memo that looks reasonably like CBS's copy using 1972 equipment.

http://defeatjohnjohn.com/2004/09/10000-part-two- ibm-selectric.htm

GravatarObviously someone Photoshopped the version the AP used, fixing it so it didn't look like the one-finger salute he obviously gave to all the souls lost that terrible day.

Gravatarthat picture is an obvious forgery; Dick Cheney did not develope the capacity to express hemrhoids until 1960 or so... the rectal stains on that digit are clearly circa 1950s... and decidedly belong to a much...much... much younger man

GravatarJust got a Ohio voter, democrat. heh. f-u george.

GravatarI'm calling Adobe and telling them that you have crossed the line with this pic. I think you've voided the warranty.I don't think it's a bit funny and I've sent copies to all my friends so they can share my disgust.

GravatarNow if someone can just move Ted Olsen's arm so it looks like he's got his finger up his nose.....

Gravataroh.. new freeper/RNC talking point/meme... we are Safer, but not safe.

That's an old one. It was taken from the 9/11 commission report. It was the only thing Bush (originally via Condi) could say about the report. Something akin to:

"We agree with what the 9/11 commission where it says 'we are safer but not yet safe.' We agree completely on that point, and we will continue to wage the blah on blah blah..."

We're safer because we the people are now more ready to intervene if we see something suspicious; hell, even homeless people are telling me to notify the cops if I see something suspicious on the train.

I use the excuse when caught ogling a woman. "I thought I saw something suspicious, honey. I swear! Hand on my groin!"

from yahoo news

SEOUL, South Korea - A large explosion occurred in the northern part of North Korea (news - web sites), sending a huge mushroom cloud into the air on an important anniversary of the communist regime, South Korea (news - web sites)'s Yonhap news agency reported Sunday.

Citing an unidentified source in Beijing, Yonhap said the explosion happened on Thursday in Yanggang province near the border with China. The damage and crater left by the explosion in Kim Hyong Jik county was big enough to be noticed by a satellite, the source said.

"We understand that a mushroom-shaped cloud about 2.2 miles to 2.5 miles in diameter was monitored during the explosion," Yonhap quoted an unidentified diplomatic source in Seoul as saying.

North Korea was founded on Sept. 9, 1948. Leader Kim Jong Il uses the occasion to stage performances and other events to bolster loyalty among the impoverished North Korean population.

Experts have speculated that North Korea might use a major anniversary to conduct a nuclear-related test, though there was no immediate indication that the reported explosion on Thursday was linked to Pyongyang's efforts to develop nuclear weapons.

On Saturday, North Korea said recent revelations that South Korea conducted secret nuclear experiments involving uranium and plutonium made the communist state more determined to pursue its own nuclear programs.

The South Korean experiments, conducted in 1982 and 2000, were likely to further complicate the already stalled six-nation talks aimed at dismantling the North's nuclear development. South Korea has said the experiments were purely for research and did not reflect a desire to develop weapons.

On April 22, train wagons at a railway station exploded in the North Korean town of Ryongchon, killing 160 people and injuring an estimated 1,300, according to some estimates. The blast was believed to have been sparked by a train laden with oil and chemicals that hit power lines.

The source in Beijing that told Yonhap about the explosion last week said it was reportedly bigger than the train explosion in Ryongchon.

Gravatarbut joshowitz I then heard "amerika's mayor" say it, and then Shay (R) conn. say it.. I think the push is on.

GravatarOh and Steve Gilliard has a great post up about the digby post, about the Children of the Kern.
Hubris Sonic | Email | Homepage | 09.11.04 - 11:30 pm | #

Steve's a mild mannered guy but he's also from Harlem (unlike Josh Marshall and Yglesies).

He knows that you don't back down from a fight when someone gets in your face.

That's why he got it right when the Little Green Fuckheadballs went after Kos and Kevin Drum and the rest of the "moderates" were tut tutting about the mercenaries.

Funny how Kos had to take more shit for an offhanded remark about a few dead mercanaries than Charles the Racist Freak Johnson had to take about a year long postumous campaign about a dead woman.

That's because liberals love to back down.

I saw it in NYC last week when all of the "mature" liberals took vacation days and cleared out of town because they got spooked by the anarchism scare. The easiest way to disrupt the RNC would have been for the whole city to demand that the city go on as normal, but did they do that? No. They cleared out and let the cops piss all over anybody who wanted to exercize their first amendment rights.

There are timest that you do compromise and act sensibly. If I'm talking to a nice, civilized moderate or conservative, I'll lower my voice and entertain as many "what ifs" as I can.

But when you're dealing with a racist freak like Charles Johnson, you put your brass knuckles on and get ready for war. You don't quote him the way Josh Marshall did.

GravatarNow, THAT'S funny. What I want to know is who cleaned up the photo so we can't see him pissing on the Constitution?

GravatarIs he showing us his IQ, or the number of friends he had before his dog died?

Gravatarhey Toby Petzold, did you know that if I shrink down my brain to like 24% and overlay it with your brain they fit exactly.

GravatarOne question about both pictures: who sends a child to a memorial service wearing pink?

GravatarBush has single digit lead

GravatarJuvenille yes. Funny, definitely. Because fart = funny. It's the first rule of comedy.

OT but don't miss JK's comments to the black congrssional caucus awards tonight. He said flat out that the Bushes and the right wing were preparing to actively engage in voter fraud and supress the black vote in not just Florida but all the battleground states.

It will make the papers. I think a continual barrage of this stuff could actually force Bush on the defensive. Keep swinging!

GravatarDoD: Hersh's new book DOA.

You mean like --

Ah, shit. Too easy, and it's not like they're not full of shit anyway...

GravatarHe said flat out that the Bushes and the right wing were preparing to actively engage in voter fraud and supress the black vote in not just Florida but all the battleground states.

wow, he said that.

although, its only because its true.

GravatarThank you, for keeping this alive, Charles Johnson.

...Johnson. Hmmmmm... never thought about it that way.

GravatarI can't look at Bush without getting rash all over my arms. I swear that he came from a pod. The original is funnier, I think, but it's important to do this one, too, so that the freepers see that we could be just the way they are if we so wanted to lower ourselves.

GravatarAnd how did they manage to twist that vapid grin off of Laura's face for the photo?

GravatarWe don't negotiate with North Korea, that's appeasement, instead we turn them into nuclear powers. It's OK though because Kim-Jung-Il... he's the sanest guy on the planet. We can trust him with a nuke or two... just as long as we don't appease him! I think he's crumbling now! NO? Well soon he'll fold... just like Castro!

GravatarThe North Korea explosion is very scary.

GravatarI wish I'd thought to fire up PhotoShop and do that.

GravatarPossible October surprise? Time to "Deal" with North Korea?

SEOUL (Reuters) - A huge explosion rocked an area in North Korea (news - web sites) near the border with China three days ago and appeared to be much bigger than a train blast that killed 170 people in April, Yonhap news agency reported on Sunday.

"There were rumors that the explosion was much bigger than the one at Ryongchon train station and the United States is showing a big interest as the blast was seen from satellites," Yonhap quoted an unnamed source in Beijing as saying.

The cause had yet to be determined but the source said Washington was not ruling out the possibility that the blast may be linked to a nuclear test.

Yonhap reported that a mushroom cloud up to 2.5 miles in diameter was spotted after the blast in remote Yanggang province in the country's far northeast.

The New York Times reported in its Sunday editions that the Bush administration had received recent intelligence reports that some experts believe could indicate North Korea is preparing to conduct its first nuclear weapons test explosion.

How about the one in Baghdad?

Gravatarwhy is it that sy hersh is our only real source for anything "real" about iraq and our future in iraq?

where is the leadership on iraq? no one wants to touch this with a ten foot pole and if kerry is pushed for an answer on iraq, I swear it's another karl rove trap -- there is no answer other than pulling out of iraq and turning the country into chaos

this is gonna make the fall of yugoslavia look like the end of "Friends" on TV; what a freakin mess this is

anybody out there have any ideas? I don't have one, and our administration is becoming a joke each day this goes on

GravatarWhy aren't more people calling BushCo on the *9/11 = Iraq* fiction?

They push that meme every chance they get (Bush, today). Their political survival depends on people being too honorable, or gullible to question one of their most useful lies. Fer fuck's sake!

GravatarJoshowitz, as much as I'd love my completely fake picture that confirms our completely fake rumor that they she supports abortion and perhaps had one (no real evidence!) to become news... I'm afraid you may have linked right here a disaster for us (the United States), S. Korea, Japan, and possibly Bush... EVERYONE SHOULD GO TO THAT LINK AND WORRY. A LOT.

If that was a nuke, the election is either over or Bush is the luckiest ducky of them all. Also, if it was a nuke, that means I'm back to viscerally hating Bush as opposed to pragmatically and rationally working to get him out of office...

GravatarI think every nation on the damn planet should possess at least one nuke. I can't think of a better deterrent against American aggression.

Gravatareverything is exploding, Happy 9/11 Everyone!, remember were safe, just not safe!

GravatarReport: Mushroom Cloud Seen After N.Korea Explosion

Gravatarzgveritas, you beat me by seconds. ARGH (on a whole lot of levels... a WHOLE lot.).

GravatarI love how a explosion last week is breaking news. can we just scrap the entire newsmediaCorp and start over.

GravatarHow about the one in Baghdad?
SWR

OMFG! I missed that...been watching 9/11 shows on PBS.

Is this how the rest of the world commemorates the WTC/Pentagon attacks? Makes me feel safe, like my hero Demosthenes.

OTOH, I guess the Axis of Evil don't realize that they have more impact on a slow news day. Haven't the insurgents/North Koreans taken any journalism courses?

GravatarSo, this explosion happened three days ago, and word is just now getting out?

Gravatarfourlegsgood:

cheers! to your departed little friend;
may he find a place in heaven as loving as the one he left...

GravatarSo sorry to hear about your loss fourlegs. Peace.

GravatarCondolences, 4legs.

We found our Kerry/Edwards signs, by the way. Apparently when the bastard heard me screaming "motherfucker" at him, he tossed them into the pasture across the road into the pasture. We only noticed them today. A bit worse for wear, but intact.

A symbol. Fight on, people.

Gravataryeah, I just wrote a post about the N.K. nuke test. this is about the worst news, how did the US not hear about this for over 2 days??!! this is NOT GOOD!

GravatarIf that was a nuke, the election is either over or Bush is the luckiest ducky of them all.

if that is a nuke that just went off, bush is done for good. every responsible democrat has been stressing that north korea is the problem; and bush negotiated with them as opposed to doing something about it, remember?

Gravatardharma: yeah, that seems odd doesn't it? Even if not a nuke test you got to wonder why this didn't get out when the train disaster coverage began a few hours after it happened. Kind of a strange thing going on. The cloud was, according to the report, 2.5 miles wide, and that's pretty big. Maybe perspective was off and they didn't really accurately determine the width? I guess we'll have to stay tuned and not let this go down the memory hole should we hear nothing more about it.

Nothing of any note whatsoever on the official Pravda-esque North Korean news service... Hopefully it's nothing.

GravatarChances are they did hear about it and didn't reveal it till Bush had time to prepare his response!

And I thought 7 minutes in a FL classroom was a long time.

GravatarMy condolences, fourlegs.

GravatarSy Hersh -- "You're not going to stop terrorism with guns."

GravatarNK has nuke-capable submarines, too, thanks to Sun Myung Moon (R).

GravatarFour Legs-

Sorry to hear about your cat.

Gravatarsyntallic, no the problem was that for 3 years Bush made it a point to NOT negotiate with them, and at the same time ALSO didn't do anything proactive (militarily) about it. He just shut them out completely.

GravatarSUCK IT UP SUCKERS!

GravatarI was wondering what was missing in american politics until I saw Ted Olsen in the photo and remembered his squashed wife Barbara. It was the rats feet over broken glass that I had so yearned for these past three years.

Gravatarimogod bush should totally have invaded north korea ... that's some pretty fucking astute analysis dipshits

GravatarI'm sorry to hear about your cat passing on.

GravatarI love how a explosion last week is breaking news. can we just scrap the entire newsmediaCorp and start over.
Hubris Sonic

I thought that was what we were doing with blogs?

But how scary is it, in the nuclear age, that a nuke explosion would take days to get around? Where's the satellite photo? If someone can find out what company, I am up for investing in some copies of Thursday's flyby over that section of NK.

GravatarRelevant news story from August 29th when the Beiking 6-nation talks fell apart, with the only decision being to meet again in October.

Quotes from relevant news story: "Although the Beijing talks have now ended but officials attending the meetings have indicated a further round of negotiations in October was discussed -- an outcome that most observers had seen as best result expected from the talks."

"In July, a Japanese newspaper quoted Japanese and North Korean sources as saying Pyongyang was prepared to conduct a nuclear test unless the United States responded positively to its proposals for resolving the nuclear crisis."

"Reports back to us from the delegation are that they (North Korea) said they were preparing to declare themselves a nuclear nation and contemplating testing."

Gravatar"Report: Mushroom Cloud Seen After N.Korea Explosion"

Yep. Feelin' safer everyday.

GravatarThis photo is indeed offensive and shocking, but I'm not changing my previous stance. As far as I'm concerned, talking about Jenna's abortion, Georgie's pedophilia, and Laura's physical abuse of her on-again, off-again lesbian lover is still uncalled for.
Mustard is Evil

Well, yes, I totally agree with the last part, but if it can be verified that this is, indeed, a legit photo, I might consider voting for the man.

GravatarA *nuclear* mushroom cloud in NK would completely change the calculus of the "We are safer" crowd.

If W did anything short of ordering a massive strike on NK, a fair amount of his mighty-righties would come to the conclusion many of us already have. (but for different reasons)

He is a pussy!

If it was I nuke, certainly hope it was only a test. The fact that it was near the Chinese border seems a little odd, but not out of the question.

GravatarCall the WaPo, NYT, CNN, and NPR.

I can vouch for the authenticity of this photo.

I am also an expert. Since I got my internet connection, I have looked at millions of photos.

GravatarDeepest sympathies, fourlegs. It's tough to lose a good friend. Sorry for your loss.

GravatarDamn, by the time that photo got to me, it had been faxed and photocopied two or three times and it's so grainy and wrinkly, I can't figure out what he's holding in his hand, there. Is that his weiner?

GravatarSeems the Bushites have been aware of a Nuclear Weapons test for a few days now:

Reports May Indicate N.Korea Nuclear Test-NY Times

If we don't invade today, Bush does not care about the safety of the United States!

pass it on.

GravatarExplosion in the Green Zone?
Bravo to you, brave Iraqi resistance!!

Good point

I am sitting hear listening to Greek Radio (No I can speak the lang. but it still sounds good).

I check daily on the MArs Rover photos.

I sit here and read the immediate opinions of hundreds of diverse people near realtime.

I can catch the latest on Selectric type fonts.

But one big boom on the planet, we have to wait to hear about.

GravatarNobody is suggesting an invasion of North Korea, and no, I won't toss your salad, you nasty ass ghoul...

We, the US made an agreement with them that WE didn't live up to, then they backed out too. We were giving them non weapons grade uranium for power and told them we'd aid in building new reactors not capable of creating weapons. we never followed through, then Bush backed out. This was a predictable scenario, but these fucking pie in the sky head up their ass BushCo. motherfuckers had to act like cowboys instead of doing the negotiating and heavy monitoring that was agreed upon originally in the first place.

God, no invasion, please! They may be starving, but they're armed to the teeth! THAT'S THE FUCKING PROBLEM, we have exactly NO good options left in dealing with them. Well done, BushCo...

GravatarNYT's has a story about NK "preparing" for a nuke test.

ASHINGTON, Sept. 11 - President Bush and his top advisers have received intelligence reports in recent days describing a confusing series of actions by North Korea that some experts believe could indicate the country is preparing to conduct its first test explosion of a nuclear weapon, according to senior officials with access to the intelligence.

While the indications were viewed as serious enough to warrant a warning to the White House, American intelligence agencies appear divided about the significance of the new North Korean actions, much as they were about the evidence concerning Iraq's alleged weapons stockpiles.

Ooops. it appears to have happened.

Dumbfucks.

GravatarThis photo is a forgery. I was able to reproduce it with Photoshop and Crayolas. Also, pixels and shit. And kerning. Which was not available yesterday on Sans Serif. And my left nut is itchy.

GravatarSome people say that this photo is real, and that the one without the finger is a forgery.

Some people say that the president likes to snort coke off Dick Cheney's shiny pate while masturbating with Condi's hand.

Who am I to argue with some people? The media use them as a definitive reference.

It was peaceful for Nikki too. He had lost so much muscle mass we were suspecting lymphoma.

I'm having a whole bottle of wine in his honor. Echidne, thanks, you rock.

And Thersites, I'm glad you found your signs. I think there's something to the idea that if you appear to be a crazy motherfucker that the idiots will think twice about fucking with you. I'll bet it doesn't happen again.

Gravatar"The New York Times reported in its Sunday editions that the Bush administration had received recent intelligence reports that some experts believe could indicate North Korea is preparing to conduct its first nuclear weapons test explosion."

"Thursday was the 56th anniversary of North Korea's founding. The reclusive communist state often stages extravaganzas and big events to mark important anniversaries."

If a nuclear bomb explodes in North Korea, and Bush is maniacally focused on Iraq, does it go boom?

All that said, no confirmation at ALL it was a nuke test, just lots of circumstantial evidence, so hopefully they're been bluffing all along and have no nukes or the capabilities to make nukes... Wouldn't that be nice.

Gravatarsyntallic, no the problem was that for 3 years Bush made it a point to NOT negotiate with them, and at the same time ALSO didn't do anything proactive (militarily) about it. He just shut them out completely.
Deerhoof

i neglected to put the word HASN'T in my response - so my typo stands corrected -- and here is a wonderful link on the Bush doctrine with respect to N.Korea

Negotiate with North Korea | March 2003 issue

The United States, the Korean peninsula, indeed, the whole world, would be better off if Washington would shelve its military plans, dispense with the belligerent rhetoric, and get down to serious bilateral negotiations with the Koreans leading up to the signing of a nonaggression pact in exchange for North Korea agreeing not to reprocess fuel rods.

Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Powell ought to learn, at some point soon, that the sledgehammer military approach is disastrous. If they don't learn this lesson in Iraq, they are sure to learn it on the Korean peninsula.

But by then it will be too late for the huge numbers of innocent people who will die. Cause of death: recklessness on Pyongyang's and Washington's part.

Gravatarimogod bush should totally have invaded north korea ... that's some pretty fucking astute analysis dipshits

No, you're right. We needed to invade Iraq to prevent that "smoking gun--that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud." link

I mean, look at all the nukes and other WMDs we found there!

I guess the NRA pressured Bush into inaction, they demanded to see a really BIG smoking gun or else no endorsement...

Nahh, no way is his weiner that big.

GravatarFrom Feb 25th, 2004 posting:

Today George Bush is poised to set off a new nuclear arms race by building bunker-busting tactical nuclear weapons, smaller and — some, incredibly, believe — more usable nuclear bombs. Well, I don’t believe our world or our country will be safer with more-usable nuclear weapons. And as president, I will engage Iran and I will renew bilateral negotiations immediately with North Korea, and I will seek a new international protocol to track and account for existing nuclear weapons and to deter the development of chemical and biological arsenals in the future. - John Kerry

Gravatar"Poll my finger!"

First time I laughed all day. Thanx, CapM!

GravatarI think the explosion annoucement in NK is to keep everybody scared. its more fearmongering on 9/11. bush wants three days of pray and rememberance. pretty soon it will be year round. maybe people should pray say... 5 times on 9/11..

GravatarI am very curious understanding how China feels about this. I have had the opinion it will come down to China to clean up North Korea or China working with us in some form of coalition.

Fourlegsgood, sorry to hear about your loss.

GravatarHey, do you think that's dubya's latest "purty face" in the khaki pants and blue blazer in the photo?

GravatarSo, do you think they will still move 12.000 troops out of South Korea???

GravatarBush has three options with NK:

1) Do absolutely nothing except jawbone about "pressure" to the masses. This will allow NK to build its arsenal and make sure that the probelm is his successors, not his. (most likely)

2) Full out pre-emptive nuke strike. NK and Seoul are obliterated. China get's really fuckin' pissed. (Freeper's favorite option)

3) Actual enter into serious, meaningful negotiations that demand nothing less than full access in exchange for just about anything they want.

I vote for #1 by a very very long margin. And I'm sure that the lapdog media will praise bush's leadership even though he does nothing about the probelm except give strong speeches.

GravatarI have had the opinion it will come down to China to clean up North Korea or China working with us in some form of coalition.

be very weary of any coalition that includes the chinese - they are playing long term and we play for the news cycle

GravatarI think he might be hiding some 2000 chads in that jacket.

Why Are We Back In Iraq?

GravatarSome more: "The New York Times reported on its Web site Saturday that US President George W. Bush (news - web sites) and his top advisers have received intelligence reports describing a confusing series of actions by North Korea that some experts believe could indicate the country is preparing to conduct its first nuclear weapons test.

Citing unnamed senior officials with access to intelligence, the newspaper said US intelligence agencies appeared divided over the significance of the new North Korean actions.

The suspicious activities included the movement of materials around several suspected test sites, including one near a location where intelligence agencies reported last year that conventional explosives were being tested that could compress a plutonium core and set off a nuclear explosion, The Times said."

Well, even if it wasn't a nuke, shouldn't (a) something be done about this, maybe not a war, but SOMETHING and (b) what the hell exploded that was so huge?!?

GravatarCurrrent polling from Oregon

Riley Research Associates, a Portland-based polling firm, came out with a poll earlier this week (Tuesday, I believe) that showed the race for President in Oregon all but tied, with Kerry at 46%, Bush at 45% and Nader (who might or might not be on the ballot) at 1% (MoE of +/- 4.35%). I had thought this outfit was a little pro-GOP (their previous poll, in May, showed Bush up by a 45-39 margin), and I hadn't even looked at the poll because it so differed from the Zogby poll of the state that came out at about the same time showing Kerry up by nearly 10 points in the state.

There's lots of internals on 3 of the state's 5 Congressional races, though I'm not sure how relevant they are given the small sample for each district (about 100 voters in each).

the story is here

---

If you want more information on these races, check out my "Basie! on Oregon" page for my full analysis of the state's politics.

GravatarYeah, sure. China is going to do "our" dirty work with NK. Ten years out "we'll" be at war with them over the Saudi oil fields.

North Korea was founded Sept. 9, 1948. Leader Kim Jong Il uses the occasion to stage performances and other events to bolster loyalty among the impoverished North Korean population.

Maybe it's just an accident, like goofing up some meters-to-feet conversion when they dug the test hole? Yet another reason to ALWAYS wear safety glasses.

GravatarBush ridicules Kerry about " changing his position" on Iraq.
WHAT IS THE BUSH IRAQ PLAN?
We are at war and Bush hasn't got the time to make a major speech on Iraq?
Bush is laughing on the stump while we are dying over there and the media lets him get away with no plan?
WTF is going on in my country?

GravatarI vote for #1

er... I *predict* #1....

GravatarQuestion for you all: Does it do any good to try to communicate with the Kerry campaign?

Kerry should point to the mushroom cloud in NK and say "Look - Bush has screwed this up." He should point to the storms in Florida and say, "Look - these are a serious problem, they're getting worse every year, and Bush is hiding behind false science because he's in thrall to the oil companies. A real leader would be working to improve the future, not hiding from the present."

The assault-weapons ban thing is good to talk about - but saying its lapse helps Al-Qaeda just makes Kerry look silly.

GravatarNorth Korea agreeing not to reprocess fuel rods

ha ha like they took the last set of agreements so seriously

where do you think they reprocess those rods now idiot? when do you imagine such facilities were built? you think a nuclear weapons program can be switched on and off like a lightswitch? you're kidding yourself!!!!!

GravatarSeoul, Sept 12 Reuters - A huge blast three days ago in North Korea was unlikely to have been a nuclear weapons test, South Korea's unification minister said on Sunday.
According to Yonhap news agency, Chung Dong-young told South Korean reporters after a National Security Council meeting that Seoul's assessment so far was the explosion was unlikely to have been linked to the North's nuclear arms ambitions.

GravatarI don't think it would be China doing our dirty work, having a mad man on your borders with a willingness to play the nuke game would be the reason. They ahve been building out of the cold war mentality, I don't think they would want to abort that process just as it is getting good.

GravatarI am very curious understanding how China feels about this.

China's thinking "We got all your paper, motherfucker. Sooner or later you WILL be our bitch."

No way is China going to stand by and let chimpy start a nuclear war in their neighborhood.

The service question
A review of President Bush's Guard years raises issues about the time he served
By Kit R. Roane

Last February, White House spokesman Scott McClellan held aloft sections of President Bush's military record, declaring to the waiting press that the files "clearly document the president fulfilling his duties in the National Guard." Case closed, he said.

But last week the controversy reared up once again, as several news outlets, including U.S. News, disclosed new information casting doubt on White House claims.

A review of the regulations governing Bush's Guard service during the Vietnam War shows that the White House used an inappropriate--and less stringent--Air Force standard in determining that he had fulfilled his duty. Because Bush signed a six-year "military service obligation," he was required to attend at least 44 inactive-duty training drills each fiscal year beginning July 1. But Bush's own records show that he fell short of that requirement, attending only 36 drills in the 1972-73 period, and only 12 in the 1973-74 period. The White House has said that Bush's service should be calculated using 12-month periods beginning on his induction date in May 1968. Using this time frame, however, Bush still fails the Air Force obligation standard.

Moreover, White House officials say, Bush should be judged on whether he attended enough drills to count toward retirement. They say he accumulated sufficient points under this grading system. Yet, even using their method, which some military experts say is incorrect, U.S. News 's analysis shows that Bush once again fell short. His military records reveal that he failed to attend enough active-duty training and weekend drills to gain the 50 points necessary to count his final year toward retirement.

The U.S. News analysis also showed that during the final two years of his obligation, Bush did not comply with Air Force regulations that impose a time limit on making up missed drills. What's more, he apparently never made up five months of drills he missed in 1972, contrary to assertions by the administration. White House officials did not respond to the analysis last week but emphasized that Bush had "served honorably."

Some experts say they remain mystified as to how Bush obtained an honorable discharge. Lawrence Korb, a former top Defense Department official in the Reagan administration, says the military records clearly show that Bush "had not fulfilled his obligation" and "should have been called to active duty."

Bush signed his commitment to the Texas Air National Guard on May 27, 1968, shortly after becoming eligible for the draft. In his "statement of understanding," he acknowledged that "satisfactory participation" included attending "48 scheduled inactive-duty training periods" each year. He also acknowledged that he could

Then why am I starting to have the same nightmare I used to have as a kid in the 60's and later in the 70's?

Thank you President Bush, I wanted to revisit those cold sweat moments when waking up and then trying to separate the dream from the reality. The world is still here, maybe the next time, it won't be.

GravatarWe laugh at the incompetence of the Bush administration - but today, it's less of a laughing matter. Their incompetence is a danger to national and world security.

What are aWol's options now?

2> Go to Crawford and clear some brush for a month to clear his head.

3> Ask Condi to go out for some blow.

4> Wage nuclear war against the evildoers.

Those are about all the options Bush has tried in the past and I suspect he doesn't have a hell of a lot left up his sleeve.

GravatarJust for fun...

Dateline 04Jul99 and Pete Slover at the renowned Dallas Morning News takes time out from tuning his pulitzer prize acceptance speech to pen...

"Mr. Bush said he sought the Guard position on his own, before graduating from Yale University in 1968. He personally met with Col. Walter B. Staudt, commander of the 147th group.

In an interview, Mr. Bush said he walked into Col. Staudt's Houston office and told him he wanted to be a fighter pilot.

"He told me they were looking for pilots," Mr. Bush said. He said he was told that there were five or six flying slots available, and he got one of them.

While Guard slots generally were coveted, pilot positions required superior education, physical fitness and the willingness to spend more than a year in full-time training.

"If somebody like that came along, you'd snatch them up," said the former commander, who retired as a general. "He took no advantage. It wouldn't have made any difference whether his daddy was chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff."

Bobby Hodges, the group's operations officer, and others familiar with Guard rules said Mr. Bush made it to the top of the short list of candidates who could pass both the written officer test and a rigorous flight physical to qualify for the three to four annual pilot training "quotas" allotted to the unit."

Hmmmmm.

I love the smell of rethuglican pants-on-fire merriment in the morning, smells like, victory...

GravatarI wonder if Atrios is drunk, cautious, or asleep. I think maybe the speculation on the North Korean blast deserves a thread of it's own? Even if not a nuke test it's still newsworthy, maybe it was a pre-emptive strike by the United States w/ a tactical nuke, or just a plain old mysterious big ass explosion? Also, the bizarre time lag between big boom and journalism of any sort, not to mention official US intelligence reports, is worthy of discussion.

GravatarCNN quotes an administration official as saying the mushroom cloud was possibly from a forest fire.

Or the "Talk about your subliminable" clip. Or the roving eyeballs in F911 just before the Iraq go-to-war announcement.

Right side: The carnage of Iraq. Bombs in the green zone. Injured in hospital. Tombstones. Bugle playing taps at military funeral. (No dead kids, real though they may be.)

This will piss off ALL supporters of the douche-bag and undecideds. And there is no way they can deny anything in it!

either the japanese are suffering from group misplaced hearing due to hiroshima PTSD or that's the loudest forest fire on record, and since when does a forest fire leave a crater?

from yahoo: "It remains unclear whether it was a deliberately planned nuclear test or it was just an accident," the source in Seoul told Yonhap. "But it doesn't seem to be an ordinary explosion."

The source said the explosion took place "not far" from a military base that holds North Korea's Taepo-dong ballistic missiles. North Korea, which has a large missile arsenal and more than a million soldiers, is dotted with military installations.

The damage and crater left by the explosion in Kim Hyong Jik county was big enough to be noticed by a satellite, a source in Beijing told Yonhap.

GravatarSomeone who was in Vietnam and left the service as a major said that during the time Bush was in the Guards promotions on schedule were almost impossible to avoid. You just got them if you turned up, he said. Then he pointed out that Bush didn't get these routine promotions, and said that George must have done something very bad.

GravatarRove is on his game here. By holding back the military records he has made the military records the issue, and has managed to divert the media from the real issue, which is the community service. If those legal files ever get out, showing that Bush was convicted of a serious drug offence, his political career will be finished. The real reason that Bush went AWOL was that he couldn't afford to take a drug test. The real reason he couldn't afford to take a drug test was that it would have been a condition of his sentencing that he remain clean. If word of the failed drug test had filtered back to the court, he would have gone to jail. His fear of the criminal legal consequences is why he went AWOL, and that's why the community service is the key to understanding what is going on here. By concentrating on the military records, the media is walking right into Rove's trap."

GravatarThe great "Brother Dave Gardner" used to tell a joke about where he wanted to be when they dropped The Big One.That was somewhere that he would have to say (drops voice) "What Was That"

GravatarSmattering of Empty News Calories: S. Koreans Doubtful, Japanese Clueless, Chinese Noncommital, Americans Think It's A Forest Fire.

"I received reports that there were signs of an explosion in North Korea," South Korea's Unification Minister Chung Dong Young said at a briefing today in Seoul. "I'm aware some foreign news media have reported the possibility of a nuclear test. But, for the moment, we believe that this wasn't related to that." Chung added that authorities were gathering more information.

"We are still trying to find out about this,'' Japanese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Akira Chiba, said in Tokyo when asked about the report."

Chinese source: "I know there was an extremely large explosion in Kim Hyong-jik County... Evidence of the explosion was detected by satellite, and I understand the U.S. and other surrounding nations are paying attention to the incident."

American "official": "...Forest fire..."

So, uh, man it'd be nice to have a definate answer on this that didn't involve an exploding forest.

GravatarSo...would anyone in Seattle like to stick a geiger counter out the window and find out what's happening?

GravatarNewest Washington Post article: But Bush administration officials were closely monitoring the reports Saturday night. One official in Washington said the Americans were examining satellite images of a mushroom cloud -- reported to be as large as 2.5 miles in diameter -- and that further information had been provided to the U.S. government by a diplomatic source in Beijing.

On Sunday, U.S. officials would not rule out a potential nuclear test, but officials at Seoul's Unification Ministry -- its government agency that deals directly with the North Koreans -- said the blast appeared to be "non-nuclear" in nature.

Those excepts are out of order, btw. Apparently not all US officials got the forest fire memo? Was the forest fire thing a joke that the reporter making the call didn't get or something? Is North Korea (a little like a rocky, colder New Hampshire, from what I've heard) even PRONE to forest fires?

GravatarIn the first photo, Bush was reaching to protect me; in the second, much funnier photo, Bush was reaching to stroke me.

GravatarYOU GO!!!

GravatarDkos user submitted photos of mushroom clouds formed by a wildfire and a gas explosion. Maybe the crater is really just a bunch of charred stuff?

BTW, sorry if all my posts are annoying, but there's nothing engaging about the fake photoshopped picture after the first 5 seconds.

GravatarBush's secret plan for Korea: Pull out the 12,000 troops to use for Iraq, Iran, Syria,..... and implement the Star Wars Defensive Missile Shield! Lots of bodies to feed the invasion war machine, and lots of money to "invest" in unproven, never-worked-correctly-in-any-missile-test-yet technology. Of course, the no bid contracts for the missile shield would go to Halliburton.....

GravatarKim Jong's wife died the other day. Who knows, maybe a connection. We can't understand the yellow mind you know!

GravatarIf N. Korea has gone nuclear Bush will not get ANY of the blame. The public will just go yipeee, another war, thank god George Bush is in office.

GravatarDidn't you ever hear of Koreans just blowing off a little steam?

Gravatar>There's a web site offering $10,000 to anyone who can reproduce a copy of Bush order memo that looks reasonably like CBS's copy using 1972 equipment.

>http://defeatjohnjohn.com/2004/09/10000-part-two- ibm-selectric.htm

Oh, my, free money. I can't see, however, these guys ever paying out.

GravatarSorry, Hubris Sonic,

But "Southern" Democrats usually vote Republican!!!

Go figger?

That's why they are called "Southern Democrats!"

GravatarBUSH IS A WIMP!!!

Powell still plays role of ‘good soldier’

Plan of Attack

And Powell, shaking his head, kept saying, "This is lunacy." It was not clear where the off switch was or whether there was an off switch. So the secretary of state sought opportunities to speak directly to the president.

"Don't let yourself get pushed into anything until you are ready for it," Powell advised Bush, "or until you think there is a real reason for it. This is not as easy as it is being presented, and take your time on this one. Don't let anybody push you into it."

"Don't worry about it," the president replied. "It's good contingency planning and I know what they are doing and I'm in no hurry to go look for trouble."

Still alarmed that such a scheme might get traction, Powell again raised the matter of a quick strike or incursion into Iraq to the president. He said, "You don't have to be bullied into this." He urged Bush to take it slowly.

"I've got it," the president replied. "I know it."

GravatarYour comment people are gutless. If you don't supply your real name and don't stand by your opinions why should I take you serious?

GravatarKim Jong's wife died the other day. Who knows, maybe a connection. We can't understand the yellow mind you know!

must be one of those uranium enriched funeral pyres they use up there

GravatarYour comment people are gutless. If you don't supply your real name and don't stand by your opinions why should I take you serious?

I don't know. Why should you?

GravatarPaul Phillips. (if that is your real name)
why should we take you, or your opinions serious(sic) anyway?

GravatarMore from C*cksucking News Network:

About 15 minutes into today's "CNN Presents," regarding 9/11, they recount Bush's arrival at the school that morning and learning about the first plane.

"His instincts are to think this is not an accident."

Hmmmmmmmm.

Going to the 9/11 Commission Report, it takes no time at all to find this sentence on page 35:

"The President's reaction was that the incident must have been caused by pilot error."

Not to mention that EVERYONE remembers the "must have been some bad pilot" comment, which is on video, I believe.

Of course, they skip from Andrew Card's whisper about the second plane to the press conference half an hour later (complete with cute Florida schoolchildren as an oh-so-appropriate backdrop), with no mention of the time between.

GravatarIf you don't supply your real name and don't stand by your opinions why should I take you serious?

If you can't supply properly constructed adverbs, why should we not string you up by your nuts and beat you like a pinata?

GravatarI am all for the pinata thing, big time.

GravatarIt's weird how everybody is dancing around about whether its a bomb or not. Like it could be a "test."

Well, wouldn't they be testing a "bomb?"

GravatarPinatas are fun.

Gravataraw, the word "test" implies the bomb. No one is dancing around anything, I don't think... Regardless, no matter what it is, this little bit of googlenews (the text of the "top" two stories for terms searched) juxtaposition (the two items were a mere 2-3 pixels apart) was, um, interesting:

North Korea cloud 'not nuke blast' - CNN - 1 hour ago

US wonders if North Korea is preparing for nuclear test - Channel News Asia - 1 hour ago

Haha.

GravatarPinata! Pinata. Troll pinata!

On the subject of Trolls: I bought a whole packet of those lttle silk US flags they hand out at games and presidential visits and such.

Every time a troll comments, I'm gonna burn one of 'em. Just for fun, y'unnerstan?

So, trolls, if you have something worth burning a flag for, go right ahead and say it. But fair warning: If you make even one grammatical or punctuation error, I'm going to wipe my hairy ass on it before I burn it.

Have a nice day!

GravatarUS officials don't know, but denies there was N Korean mushroom cloud anyway (ABC Australia): US officials are "pretty sure" that a reported blast in North Korea three days ago was not a nuclear explosion or test but there is no definitive explanation yet, a State Department official said today.

"We've got no indication that anything of the sort (nuclear test) has happened. We believe these reports to be completely unfounded," said the State Department official who asked not to be named.

"People are pretty sure it's not a mushroom cloud and not a test of any kind."

Another US official, who declined to be identified, said the United States had seen some activities on Thursday that might have been preparations for a nuclear test, or an actual test, but there was no definitive conclusion.

Yonhap news agency reported that a huge explosion produced a mushroom cloud that sparked speculation that Pyongyang might have tested an atomic weapon.

The news agency quoted an unnamed source in Beijing citing rumours that the explosion appeared to be much bigger than a train blast that killed 170 people in April.

A third US official said it was unclear what had happened and that there were various possible explanations.

"We watch everything in North Korea very closely. At this point, we don't have any definitive information to report. There are a variety of possible explanations. What this is is not clear," said the US State Department official who spoke on condition that he not be named.

GravatarThis "forest fire"

1. Caused a crater visible from satellites
2. Had a blast louder than the Ryongchon train explosion
3. Caused a mushroom cloud 2.5 miles wide.
4. Occurred on the 56th Anniversary of North Korea's founding.
5. Came as the US received intelligence of preparations for an N-test in North Korea.

Nothing to worry about then.

GravatarMcRutter, since the seismograph data has come back negative, I'm starting to wonder if (considering the cloud was seen in the vicinity of a missle base) the USA didn't drop a MOAB or something on a site in N Korea...

GravatarWhats an adverb?

GravatarGot a link for that seismograph data?

GravatarDeerhoof: Hello? Are you saying the US lobbed a missile into NK?

Wouldn't that be considered sort of unneighborly? Maybe even an act of war?

GravatarBy George, Deerhoof, I think you've got it.... This must be the surprise we've been waiting for...

Gravatar...cause this one doesn't look so good (date is 9/9)

GravatarBy George, Deerhoof, I think you've got it.... This must be the surprise we've been waiting for...

GravatarNo N Korean "quaking" in last week... Although it seems as though the cutoff point is 2.5 on the Richter scale, so something smaller than that wouldn't show up, presumably.

Gravatar[puts on blindfold and picks up baseball bat]

Because you should judge opinions based on their merit and the facts, not on the name of the person stating them. I know it's easier for you to just automatically accept as true anything Sean Hannity says and deny everything Michael Moore says, but that's not what an intelligent person would do.
If an anonymous poster says Bush lied when he said most of his tax cut would go to the people at the bottom, it's still true. If Rush Limbaugh says typewriters from the '70s didn't have proportional fonts, it's still a lie.

GravatarWhat rains down when a troll pinata is busted open? Partially digested kittens?

Gravatarfourlegs,

If you're still here:

My condolences.

I think the community service stuff may still be tainted by association with Hatfield's book, so I'm not sure how ready and willing the media are to look further into that. Also, I'm not so sure Bush's military records are such a bad thing to be looking into. Lukasiak has turned up some interesting stuff with the documents that are already out there.

GravatarBush hid in a class of children because he is impotent when he is under attack.

He cannot deal with confrontation.

He ignored the intelligence that warned of this attack and then blamed everyone else for his being asleep at the wheel.

He went AWOL on 9-11 like he has through out his life!!!!

He was a coward in 1974 and on 9-11, cowards should not be President...If you loved your nation, you would realize this. You should respect your nation more than your party and stop defending a coward.

Bush is a failure as a cheerleader, a soldier and a President!!!

GravatarThis is *totally* off-topic, but someone mentioned Juanita Broaddick.
I admit to being at least semi-duped on this one--I remember at one point I had a "My God--what if he really did it?"

So. Everyone needs to read "THE CLINTON WARS" by, yes, Sidney Blumenthal. EVERYONE on this thread. It's fucking fantastic. Get the book and look up Broadick, Juanita in the index.

Turns out Juanita's bosses are sisters who run a nursing home. Their father was murdered. The killer was on death row. In 1980, then-Gov. Clinton commuted his sentence.

Game, set, and match. Broadick was either pressured to lie by her employers or she hated Clinton for that as much as they did.

And why didn't we hear about this from the SCLM?

GravatarMoveOn.org...

Good fun, and we raised a bit of money despite the generalized lack-of-money of most people I know.

The grand prize was Peace Signs, a great collection of antiwar art.

Kerry/Edwards '04!!

GravatarOkay, Haloscan just cut off the first part of that comment...odd.

I was saying that I just returned from a poker tournament (Texas Hold'em, of course) I organized among my friends, with all proceeds going to MoveOn.org...

GravatarAh! Last drink of the night! 4th! Always triple dark rum, honey, brown sugar and green tea! Now 2 capsules of Valerian Root and 1 Melatonin tab. Fire up a joint and ease away with the headphones on with some nice sounds! Sleep Apnea is a BEAR! Everybody have a nice one! "PEACE"

GravatarIsn't that the finger most used on a typewriter?

GravatarAlways triple dark rum, honey, brown sugar and green tea!

Is that a drink or homemade cough syrup?

GravatarYes, Bush said something about a lousy pilot. Here' the problem with that statement. HE KNEW IT WAS BULLSHIT!!

From the Washington Post article about The Day Before:
During the president's daily morning briefing by the CIA, the White House learns that Ahmed Shah Massoud has been assassinated in Afghanistan. The death of this leader in the resistance to the ruling Taliban dampens U.S. hopes of ending fundamentalist Islamic rule in Kabul. All signs immediately point toward Osama bin Laden, the head of a shadowy Islamic terrorist group called al Qaeda, which claimed responsibility for the bombing of the USS Cole in 2000.

On 9/10, Bush knew our guy (for lack of a better term) had been assasinated and al Qaeda did it, so for him to make a dumbass comment and walk into the school after being told a plane hit the WTC was either
A) beyond moronic
or B) stone cold callous.

Worst. President. Ever.

tow

GravatarThe green tea might be a problem R.L. its got LOADS of caffiene.

Gravataroops, haloscan ate my link
WaPo

And about NK and the "maybe" nuke, I sure wish I had a geiger counter.

GravatarBefore the war, the left blogosphere seemed to have the facts on their side. Whatever your political beliefs the arguments seemed to be inescapable. Now, Little Green Footballs has the facts on their side.

GravatarOh, lord. Looks like Iraq is getting all Bushified. You know how Bush always just stops keeping track of things that make him look bad? Well, now the Iraqi Health Ministry has ordered its stats to department to stop keeping track of Iraqi civilian casualties!!

Disgusting.

GravatarBefore the war, the left blogosphere seemed to have the facts on their side. Whatever your political beliefs the arguments seemed to be inescapable. Now, Little Green Footballs has the facts on their side.

Wow. What a completely vacuous and unsupported statement.

GravatarIf a nuclear test is above ground, does it still make a seismo signal? Questions, questions.

GravatarWow. What a completely vacuous and unsupported statement. Yeah, that's the point.

GravatarBlast, Mushroom Cloud Reported in N. Korea.

GravatarThe guys over at Little Green Footballs are saying the NK nuclear test is evidence that the Kerry/Edwards 2004 campaign is openly conspiring with our sworn enemies to undermine President Bush’s war on terror. Apparently they have photos of some Kerry staffers eating at a Korean BBQ restaurant in Los Angeles that is known to be frequented by North Korean intelligence agents. They are demanding to know if Kerry approved of these contacts between his staff and NK intel and if he had foreknowledge of this apparent nuclear test.

The Axis of Sober Moderation (Josh, Kevin and Matt) while not completely accepting the truth of these allegations (for that’s all they are at this point) are nevertheless deeply troubled by the dire implications of these charges and are demanding that Kerry immediately open an investigation and fire any staffers who have indeed been making unauthorized contact with NK intelligence.

No comment so far from the White House on all of this.

GravatarIm gitin a assault rifle with a 50 round clip, and going to washington to hunt me some varmits. The one with the finger looks like a good place to start.! Opps! I have to wait till tuesday to git me my ar15 bushmaster. yahoo, I kin hardly wait!!

GravatarKorean BBQ house in LA? Do you have an address? You know what they say -- spies know all the best places to eat -- just look at some of the gourmet stuff James Bond ordered in the books.... Makes your mouth water.

GravatarSpies know the best places to eat? You've obviously never been to the Vienna Inn (Vienna, VA). Famous for chilli dogs and rude service. Some people get upset if they aren't insulted when going there.

I have no idea what the BBQ reference is referring to, but I'll bite--there's a great place near the Beverly Center, down and across the street from what used to be the Nikko Hotel. It's so good because it's a front for the Korean mafia.

Personally, I'll take a good yakiniku joint any day.

GravatarOops, just saw the BBQ reference. Damn Haloscan.

Anyway, I'd bet these 'photos' are from this place. It's an upscale joint.

I've eaten there. Am I conspiring with the Axis of Evil?

GravatarThen he pointed out that Bush didn't get these routine promotions, and said that George must have done something very bad.

Or be stunningly irresponsible. He went in as a first lieutenant, the lowest officer rank, and was still at that rank six years later.

Pretty suspicious to me. Thats equivalent to being an ensign in the navy.

GravatarWile E. Odysseus, thanks. I'm off to bed now.

GravatarAn amusing story, for those who haven't heard about it yet:

I new book by a very well-connected British journalist states that Colin Powell told Jack Straw that Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Wolfowitz are "f***ing crazies."

Very funny, to me at least.

This is the "Missing Comma Ploy." Oh, did we miss that little old comma? Oh shame on little ole us.

GravatarAsterisks & commas, why do they hate America?

GravatarRemember how we found out about Chernobyl? Scientists noticed an invisible radioactive cloud passing overhead.

Let's not start worrying that this is a nuclear test or accident by the North Koreans until we get the same kind of data.

They'd have to be complete, utter morons to do an above-ground nuclear test.

(Although, a mushroom cloud 2 1/2 miles big is, uh, pretty freaking big!)

Gravatargrr said:

'

No, but if you're in the L.A. area and you're eating Korean BBQ and you hear some white guy going on about international politics, you just might have encountered the Node of Evil.

Just checked out your site. Do you get many right-leaning individuals who oppose the war on terror? I don't know any myself and I see damn few on TV.

GravatarAs I understand it, it could be easily determined whether or not it was a nuclear test by anyone with a siesmograph (sp?). Nuclear detonations send shockwaves through the earth that are different to those caused by earthquakes. If it was a nuclear test, half the siesmographers in the world would know about it, so I wouldn't expect it to remain secret for very long. Although there may be limits to that approach, as I heard about this some years ago and am not clear on the detail.

Answer: yes

GravatarIt’s funny that you guys are talking about this K-town, Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs says that he has also heard this mysterious place mentioned as a possible location for clandestine activity. The wingnuts are desperately trying to figure out where it is, some speculate it is near Simi Valley. Others have pointed out that they have heard cryptic mention of a possible J-town. Charles put two and two together and figured out that these J and K–towns actually referred to John Kerry’s initials and thus secret cabals of traitorous liberals are meeting North Korean intelligence in these secret locations.

Josh and the boys generally agree with Charles’s analysis but think the J-town connection is slightly exaggerated. Kevin Drum is from LA so he is pretty sure this K-town is down there by Laguna Beach.

GravatarWe haven't done dick with N. Korea because they actually might pose some sort of threat to us, unlike Iraq (though with each passing month and dead soldier, I think it's dawning on the Bushie hawks that Iraq isn't the cakewalk they thought it'd be).

Kerry should be focused on 1) Lapsing weapons ban a potential boon to terrorists, 2) Continued instability in Iraq, 3) Weapons program in Iran that's being completely ignored by the US, 4) Recent terrorist activities and instability in Russia, 5) Hands-off strategy with N. Korea by the Bush camp, culminating in this possible nuclear capability, in addition to the proposal to remove our military resources from the area.

All of these points knock the foundation out from underneath Bush's major selling point: that he's 'Strong On Terror'. The Kerry camp needs to be hitting this HARD while the news is still fresh in everyone's mind. Bob knows something will come along at any minute to distract everyo... oh look, is that Paris Hilton in a body stocking??

GravatarSeveral officials speculated that the test, if it occurred, could be intended to influence the presidential election, though a senior military official said while "an election surprise" could be the motive, "I'm not sure what that would buy them."

Atomic Activity in North Korea Raises Concerns

I think it's important for us to continue to lead coalitions that are firm and strong, in sending messages to both the North Koreans and the Iranians."

mr. bush you don't think, that's the problem, and then when you do think, that's really a problem.

Gravatar"I'm with stupid->"

GravatarThe agency also quoted an unidentified government official as saying there was seismic activity related to two blasts in North Korea at 11 p.m. Wednesday and 1 a.m. Thursday.

GravatarCheck out CSPAN...They have the swifty vs a Kerry vet

GravatarAmerican intelligence agencies are reporting that it is already well into the autumn season in North Korea and this is the time of year that the Great Leader, Kim Il Sung takes a month off and clears brush on his huge estate in the foothills of the Dbya-izawanka mountain range. Well is seems as if the Great Leader does not always follow the rules that he himself sets for his people. The air pollution levels have been quite high lately (the elderly were advised to stay indoors yesterday) so burning garden rubbish is strictly forbidden. It turns out that the Great Leader did not feeling like hauling all the refuse to the local dumps that is more than 15 kilometers away so he just burned it. Now his estate is absolutely huge so the CIA is saying that they are not surprised that it shows up on the satellite photos as a mushroom cloud.

The White House stated this morning that the fact that this is not a nuclear test only goes to show just how well George W. Bush’s get tough approach with North Korea is working.

GravatarSo I hope Kerry will attack Bush on this

Gravatar"According to data gathered by Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI), Yongjori is a suspected site for North Korea's uranium enrichment program."

GravatarChina urges stronger cooperation with DPRK from China Daily 12 Sept... and DPRK is aka North Korea. So if you think China is going to do the heavy lifting for the US to keep the DPRK in line, fuhgettaboutit.

Bush is sooooo Cheney'd on the North Korean issue. Every time the North Koreans get near a deal, Bush sends Undersecretary of Defense John (don't call me Michael) Bolton for Weapons Proliferation to piss Lil Elvis off some more and sabotage the peace negotiations.

Bolton is the Little Green Nutjob of Weapons of Mass Destruction and claims among other things that Fidel Castro has massive stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction. The Norks just refer to Bolton as "human scum".

Gravatarwhy do we have to 'attack' everything as americans?

I know - an attack is an example of either a cornered animal - or a rational animal who knows they are wrong!

but alas - the discourse and average capacity to understand is soo low - that those of us who attempt to explain end up being called names like loony.

america is a great country - americans are the crappiest rich-people evAr!

where is the sanity?

it has been long-gone - american society is falling apart and no one cares - I simply hope to live long enough to experience the rioting...

America Deserves Bush - 2004

Gravatarbitching is boring,

Kerry has to attack Bush b/c the media will not question him anymore, unless Kerry raises the question. Thats all. Don't give americans so much credit

GravatarJeepers H. Christmas--CNN just closed out a news seg before moving onto "House Call" by saying U.S. officials are downplaying the satalite pictures of a small Mushroom Cloud over N. Korea yesterday. It could be a forrest fire, they tell us.

GravatarOT:

Americans deserve Bush. I just saw the CSPAN argument between the new form of the swifties and the veterna defending Kerry. Judging from the performance I realize why Repubs win easily. The lie wiht no compunction and people don't have time to find out what is true. I was checking it in real time using google and I cought the guy in 5 lies within a 3 min. period. The Kerry guy was trying to correct the guy, but more lies kept coming from him mouht. Overall the swifty guy won the debate, b/c the Kerry guy was worried about facts, and it seem as if the callers belived the lies. What to do?

GravatarShocked:

I agree. Problem is, that the press and repukes call the Dems liars when the Dems are stating factual

. The maddening thing is the stuff sticks (i.e. the people
believe that the Dems lie).

This am on Today, Lester whatever was
interviewing dipshit Fineman about
another document surfacing that shed
negative light on the Bush Boy's
TANG service. The entire interview
centered on whether or not the docs
were fake and how this would end up
backfiring on Kerry when he hasn't
even said a word about the whole deal.

Remember the rap on Kerry's service?
Anything that was said negatively
about Kerry was reported as fact in
the press even when refuted. The
whole god damn thing is a joke.

GravatarI would like to take this moment to wish Maureen Dowd much unhappiness and misery. Nice fucking column there, baby. You truly suck.

GravatarTed Olson must think he's Napoleon.
Porter Goose

No, just the center of the universe. They all think that.

So. Does everyone agree that that brilliant invention to order, the Axis of Evil was the cap of Frum's career? Such clever word-smithing and such wonderful results.

This wouldn't have happened if Gore was sitting in the oval office.

GravatarOlson should be the one giving Bush the finger. Olson, more responsible than anyone except James Baker and Clarence Thomas for the Bush ursurpation/presidency, was repaid for his efforts with the death of his wife, Barbara, in the plane that hit the Pentagon. It is all too clear that Bush's negligence was a contributing factor. The Olson kids should be giving the Prez the finger, as well.

GravatarOT - if anyone is using firefox, i discovered a brilliant new extention that turns email adresses and urls which aren't posted in html (ie, posted as regular text) into regular links. It's called "linkification", and just google it and firefox together to use it. Also works with mozilla and netscape, it's just brilliant for haloscan and other comment threads.

Oh, here's the homepage for it.

if you had linkification installed, you could just click on that link.

...if you don't, you can click on homepage below. Only works with firefox/mozilla/netscape.

GravatarI agree with dowd on this one. Americans are stupod, we like our leaders to blow shit up, and to have big penises(even the females). Americans simultaneously say they dislike attacks but rewards the attacks. Anyday now, the repbs are going to be blaming Clinton/kerry for N korea. How would the line" I will kick osama's ass so hard that shit will be running from his nose", appeal to the 42% that still believes Saddam was responsible for 911? The past 12 years has taught me that the media atmosphere favors the bigger liar. What to do with supid Americans

GravatarI just saw a story on the possible NK nuke test on Yahoo and have been reading the comments here.
A big explosion on "Nation Day" in a remote corner of the country is not a good thing. It seems like the sort of thing the Koreans would be really be hyping, but there's not been too much said aboutit which seems to indicate that something went wrong.
Since this was in a mountainous region, maybe the plan was to test the bomb inside a mountain such as was done in Pakistan. Maybe they had a sort of "blow out" or worse maybe it went off during assembly or arming prior to the test.
Either way,it will be confirmed as nuclear or not as the cloud drifts outside of the area

GravatarOn 09.11.01 I was in Britain.

When it was reported that Barbara Olsen was on one of the planes I snarked, "At last some good news."

My dad slapped me down but good.

GravatarOT: but entirely within the MO of the Bush admin-

"A furious row has broken out over claims in a new book by BBC broadcaster James Naughtie that US Secretary of State Colin Powell described neo-conservatives in the Bush administration as 'fucking crazies' during the build-up to war in Iraq.

Powell's extraordinary outburst is alleged to have taken place during a telephone conversation with Foreign Secretary Jack Straw. The two became close friends during the intense negotiations in the summer of 2002 to build an international coalition for intervention via the United Nations. The 'crazies' are said to be Vice-President Dick Cheney, Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and his deputy, Paul Wolfowitz.

Needless to say, Powell and Straw both deny the conversation. The book is scheduled for release next week.

GravatarShocked... are you talking about Dowd's sept 12 NY times column? Jeez...she's carrying republican conventional- wisdom-talking-points water, adding to the echo chamber. She's sliming Kerry, and it's pathetic.

I would love to see Kerry fight back harder and I've becoming very worried this past month, but what she's doing with this column is ... dunno. She must want a Bush victory, or just not fucking care. I can't stand her. Shit like this adds to my growing feelings of resignation, and i'm sure I'm not alone.

GravatarChicago Sun Times Editorial
"CBS falls for Kerry campaign's fake memo"

!! OK !!
You guys want to all think this shit is over... Look at this crap...

Totally pushing the "it was made with Microsoft Word" bullshit, and claiming in order to change a font you had to " unscrew the keys, grab a hammer and give them a couple of thwacks to make the ''t'' and ''h'' squish up all tiny."

This fool totally buys into and pushes the "liberal media" myth..

I want to scream, I want to die.. I'm sick of this garbage.. Let's give everybody their own fucking reality..

WAIT WAIT I took the REd pill.. GIVE ME THE BLUE PILL!! I WANT THE BLUE PILL..

I agree. It was probably accidental if it's nuclear. Hopefully, it took out some of their top scientists working on the project which may set them back a decade or so. We have monitoring equipment depending on the winds.

GravatarDoomed! We're doomed!!

The media is saying Kerry needs to respond to attack more quickly! The media is saying Kerry's campaign is struggling! The media is saying the documents might be fakes!

Doomed I say! Doomed!!!!

GravatarTy,

She does not care who wins or not. She is rich and untouchable. I am watching all the talk shows today, and I swear to God I better hear a direct attack on Bush, something that will grab the headline.

Gravatari love how round heels looks like a total zonked out whore.

GravatarWith all the questions raised about Bushboy's NG service how come the media isn't demanding that Bushboy come out and clear the air?

How come Bushboy isn't holding any press conferences? How come he doesn't answer any questions at his rallies (except from planted Gooper questioners)?

How come Bushboy isn't expected to explain himself as Clinton was with regard to his sex life?

Does Bushboy's military record and issue of integrity matter less than whether Clinton got a blow job or not?

Methinks not in the rightwing controlled American media today!

GravatarRudy,

I am watching FOX right now. Richard Holbrook is on. He is doing great. Very solid. He is dumping it all on Bush's lap

GravatarAP Story needs to be rated up.

WASHINGTON - While working relentlessly to portray Democratic Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites) as a "flip-flopper," President Bush (news - web sites) has his own history of changing his position, from reversals on steel tariffs and "nation-building" to reasons for invading Iraq (news - web sites).

More:

_Last month, he said he doubted the war on terror could be won, then reversed himself to say it could and would.

_A week after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, Bush said he wanted Osama bin Laden (news - web sites) "dead or alive." But he told reporters six months later, "I truly am not that concerned about him." He did not mention bin Laden in his hour-long convention acceptance speech.

"I'm a war president," Bush told NBC's "Meet the Press" on Feb. 8. But in a July 20 speech in Iowa, he said: "Nobody wants to be the war president. I want to be the peace president."

Bush keeps revising his Iraq war rationale: The need to seize Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s weapons of mass destruction until none were found; liberating the Iraqi people from a brutal dictator; fighting terrorists in Iraq not at home; spreading democracy throughout the Middle East. Now it's a safer America and a safer world.

GravatarShocked -

agreed.

GravatarOn Drudge's website, they had a group of Arab muslimes apologizing for everything done recently in the name of Islam except the beheadings and hanging of the headless bodies of gays on poles in the town square in their communities.

GravatarDeath Knell: Take a deep breath and walk away from the computer screen. That Sun Times article is an op-ed piece written by a wingnut columnist. I read him whenever I want to know what trash the heartlands is being fed.

BTW, I'll give $500 to the first TV interviewer who turns off a wingnut's microphone in mid-conversation, stares into the camera and says "We're going to pause this interview for a couple of minutes while my staff checks the veracity of that last statement." It would be great theater!

GravatarWhat do you expect from a pedophile. This sick bastard collects kiddie porn.

That's much worse than CLinton's rapes!

GravatarI see that Colin Powell was on TV this morning denying the explosion was nuclear. Now I'm really worried . . .

GravatarIncog,

Now what? I am beginning to hear from the rebus that N korea was Clinton/Kerry's fault.

GravatarGood performance by Madeline Albright on MTP this morning. Compared Cheney to Joe McCarthy.

GravatarTime for Kerry to stop fucking around and take off the gloves. Where is Osama?, Why is N Korea testing their nukes, How will you get us our of Iraq. Why did bush say that he wanted to send jobs to China? Why was he making fun of not finding WMD's to the press' face, while troops were dying. Why did he taunt the terrorist to bring it on? There is sooo much ammo. what is up?

GravatarJohn Forgery Kerry.

Gravatarwhat is up?
Shocked

John effin Kerry is running on only one issue, his naval service in Vietnam.

GravatarYonhap news:

North Korea: Two signs of explosions, on the night of 09/08, and the early morning of 09/09

A government source disclosed on Sept. 12 that two seismic activities were detected on the night of Sept. 8 and the early morning of Sept. 9, from the explosion at Kim Hyong-jik County, Yanggang Province, N. Korea.

According to the source, both S. Korean and Chinese earthquake monitoring stations picked up from Yanggang Province area of N. Korea, " seismic activities presumably related to two explosions, one at 11pm on 09/08, and the other at 1am on 09/09."

Earlier, another key government figure revealed, "The incident occurred on the night of 09/08. Our government(S. Korean gov.) noticed a sign of trouble on the early morning of 09/09. That is pretty close to what happened. Before the mushroom cloud was observed on the morning of 09/09, we detected another sign of trouble."

disclaimer: This isn't my translation and you don't want to know where I got it - trust me. But I think it's reasonably reliable.

GravatarHas anyone considered that the explosions in North Korea may be pre-emptive US attacks on a North Korean nuclear facility?

GravatarRemember ten years ago?

Remember Newt's (Frank Luntz enabled) words?

"Traitor"
"Sick"
"Anti-American"

I would love nothing more than "Lincoln-Douglas." But that isn't the case.

Hit 'em. Hit them hard.

I want blood.

.

GravatarShocking, yes.

But this sort of behavior is just totally unpresidential!

GravatarHas anyone considered that the explosions in North Korea may be pre-emptive US attacks on a North Korean nuclear facility?

It sounds like MOABs, but there's no way we could have gotten a C-30 close to the Chinese border.

At any rate, it will be a wonderful excuse to start up StarWars. Let the games begin!

GravatarI see that Colin Powell was on TV this morning denying the explosion was nuclear. Now I'm really worried . . .
BCF

Collin has just bought himself the title of most clueless Sec. of State in history. His speech to the security council, lying and showing phony documents and now denying the possiblity of a mushroom cloud on the horizon. Brilliant man of charecter. And this is the kind of idiot who is adored by the Washington establishment.

Must smile a lot at parties.

GravatarJohn effin Kerry is running on only one issue, his naval service in Vietnam.
Usamabinlazy

Uhhhh, nope, sheepdip.

Kerry is talking jobs, economy, environment, health care.

Your boy is talking fear, period. Of course, he has nothing else to run on, does he, brainwave?

Run along, ignatz.

GravatarSwear to God in a couple of years 9/11 will be the occasion of furniture sales, car sales, and a few hackneyed editorials about never forget blah blah.

It's true. There is absolutely nothing that American capitalism won't turn into a marketing opportunity.

Gack!

GravatarBears Repeating:

Upthreat a person named "Shocked" wrote the following which, bears repeating and, in fact, copying, pasting and faxing & FedExing to Kerry Campagin HQ:

Time for Kerry to stop fucking around and take off the gloves. Where is Osama?, Why is N Korea testing their nukes, How will you get us our of Iraq. GravatarLook how old Ted effing Olson looks.
Is that the evil spawn of Barbara in
front of him?

GravatarYou're all so very, very wrong. About everything. Look, we've had the goods on W for about ten years now and NOT ONE FUCKING THING HAS SLOWED HIM DOWN. There is no justice. There is no fairness. There is no hope. Let us put our heads down and slouch towards November, because our votes and voices are already moot (see, I'm trying to play off the common mispronunciation of "moot" as "mute"). Are fucking word games all we have to make ourselves feel better? It looks like that's our choice after this election: guttersniping or rioting in the streets. I hope it'll be revolution, but I suspect it will be self-delusion. We're fucked. Who has a reason for carrying on?

GravatarSpies know the best places to eat? You've obviously never been to the Vienna Inn (Vienna, VA). Famous for chilli dogs and rude service. Some people get upset if they aren't insulted when going there.

ARGH! The Vienna Inn! Go on a Sunday and be forced to sing Hail to the Redskins every time (if any) the 'skins score a touchdown! I wonder if they still sell those wooden nickels? You can (could?) get seriously drunk on wooden nickels during a high-scoring game.

GravatarYou know if that was John Kerry and this was freerepublic.com, we would be looking at a week of coverage of this "blatant disrespect for Amurrika and the patriots who died protecting this country in a collapsing skyscraper" before it was found to be photoshopped and disaapeared without a retraction.

GravatarPersonally, I think Kim-Jong Il was just clearing some brush at his ranch.

GravatarCould someone ask Pickles to put the Lobster Claw away?

To think she has three more of those...

GravatarAint it amazing how Dubbya ALWAYS seems to be so much smaller than life?

GravatarBush's whole campaign is about 'homeland security,' for the violation of which he is more responsible than any man in the world... 9/11 fell on his watch. Which means he can't run on his record. Get it?

Gravatarfor the violation of which he is more responsible than any man in the world... 9/11 fell on his watch. Which means he can't run on his record. Get it?

Here in the grown-up world it is generally understood that human beings don't have the capacity to possess or exploit the level of knowledge necessary to arrange the world as we see fit, producing the outcomes everyone wants.

What this means is that here in the real world, one can do everything right and still lose, still be wrong, and it doesn't necessarily make one evil or incompetent.

Get it?

:jackson

Gravatarthat pickles looks more manly with each passing pill-popping day.

Gravatardig the guy in the tan pants, checking out the first keister.

now, i know that dubya has never denied his attraction to young men, but that guy is probably a little too old for georgie to invite him up to the linkin' bedroom for a special three hour tour.

Gravatar"It's 9/11. Do you know where your patriotism is?" (I am shocked to find no article about it on HaloScan)

We were attacked. About THREE THOUSAND of us were murdered by Islamic 'activists'-including the mother of those little girls.

http://www.jimlynch.com/911/amer...- attacked2.html

GravatarVery funny, Atrios, except GWB really meant it. Up your ass, pally.

GravatarThis photo proves that proportional flipping off was possible using Photoshop in 2004, and that the photos showing Bush not flipping off the public are forgeries.

GravatarEveryone's focus is on W...What about Laura?? Ask any female to put her hand to her heart and I bet she WON'T put her hand on her breast like Laura here. I am dazzled at this public display of ... what? Somebody out there has the right word(s) for it, I'm sure.

Gravatarhoary cripple said:

'Just checked out your site. Do you get many right-leaning individuals who oppose the war on terror?'

Several, actually, who know enough history to realize that indeed the U.S. has done little to actually spread democracy and lots to tick off the rest of humanity in the last twenty or so years (with some breaks for Carter and Clinton, both of whom were at times far from perfect). Anyway, I'm not much of a partisan myself (politically independent Mormons don't fit well into the current spectrum), so I try to keep the Node off blatant partisan attacks. However, that does not exclude bad policy, and the Bush administration has that in spades. And that, it turns out, is a truth which has alot of bipartisan support.

GravatarAssios,

Was that photo done with Photoshop Paintshop Pro?

You're showing the Democratic party's desperation. Keep up the good work.

4 more years!

GravatarForged documents; forged photos. Hmm. To what depths shall you next sink in order to slander and libel Bush?

GravatarForged documents; forged photos. Hmm. To what depths shall you next sink in order to slander and libel Bush?

GravatarAt least the phony photo is a beter forgery than the phony memos.

GravatarBush cares so little for anything,or anybody that this slight change in the photo image is is really Dubya's true feelings because Mr. Smirk "doesn't feel like he owes anybody an explanation" being (the juvenile delinquent) king that he is.

Bush obviously feels like he can be nasty to anyone he whats to be because he's king and you're not.

If Bush losses the presidential campaign, I'm sure we Americans will all get a "fuck you" from Junior and GOP, not just from Dick Cheney. It'll be Bush's nasty little parting shot to every American. I'm sure Bush feels like those 9/11 victims got exactly what they deserved if so reason, we frightened Americans fail to re-elect Mr. presidential face for president again.

It'll be "Here's your seven minutes, indeed" from the king of nasty behavior.

GravatarNot funny, not even a well-done photoshop.

You dem-bats must be drinking your own vomit again.

GravatarRight back atcha, Atrios.

GravatarSick and inappropriate.

GravatarWhen Bush wins by a landslide in November, will all of you then STFU?

GravatarAtrios, you are about a dumbass, pecildicked idiot. Get a fucking life, you adlepated moron.

GravatarAtrios, you are about a dumbass, pecildicked idiot. Get a fucking life, you adlepated moron.

GravatarI agree. Bush is the problem, not al-Qaeda, PLO, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Syria, Iran, North Korea, et al

GravatarI agree. Bush is the problem, not al-Qaeda, PLO, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Syria, Iran, North Korea, et al.

GravatarThe more and more I hear and see Democrat supporters, the more I feel they should be called "Saddam's Band of Brothers". All their arguments have been for a "status quo" of a brutal dictator's heinous crimes against humanity.

You Dem's are truly Satan's pawns.

GravatarSo very, very funny. You pathetic whiner.

I'm going to fall asleep tonight dreaming with joy of how much therapy you're gonna to need when Bush wins in November. You'll probably end up being glad the "assault weapons ban" is no longer in effect, so you can stock up for your "revolution." Good luck with that project, by the way!

Now, on another subject: Why have you "disappeared" the Electoral College map? Can't stand it now that the numbers aren't going your way anymore?

Moral coward.

GravatarBush is the problem, not al-Qaeda, PLO, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Syria, Iran, North Korea, et al

Uh huh. Go to North Korea and say something like that about Kim Jong-il. See how long you get to keep your teeth.

GravatarHmmm, did Bush note that there were leftie/liberal parasites in the crowd from Atrios, Daily Kos, Josh Marshall, and so on?

GravatarI was pleasantly surprised to note that the young girl in the foreground (wearing a grey/pink plaid skirt) knows the correct location of the heart.

GravatarWell I descided to look up the judges in the Ohio appeals case that was heard early this morning (dawn) by three judges from the 6th court of appeals.Surprise two out of the 3 were Bush promotions one is listed on Bush's web site!
Judge John M. Rogers appointed by Bush in 2001
Surperior Judge John Ryan appointed by Reagan and promoted to Superior by Bush jan 1st 2000!
For those who don't know about this case it is a case allowing people from the GOP to contest voter's eligiblity at their polling place and was thrown out already by 2 Fed judges.

Gravatarand you can't see the weak photoshop work?

Please.

GravatarThe psychosis of feeble leftist and the desire of control.

Leftist, living only in the mind’s ego must confirm one's own meaning through the judgments and reasoning of others. Without conformation from others, their feeble minds feel a need of 'want' and 'emptiness,' because the ego only can be validated by others. To control this sad state of existence, the leftist must attempt to control others. So they try as hard as they can to convince you to use less gas, recycle cans, oppose confrontation, they say things like, ‘we can give humanity all it needs if you would only listen and let us control,’ you know the mantra. When people don't listen, two things happen, 1) depression, self loathing, 2.) hate toward those who one can't control. This is the state of existence of all socialists, this is the psychosis behind the fascist socialist, Hitler. This is the psychosis of all tyrants who want to centralize the powers of man upon a single linage of control.
The leftist is a simple loathsome creature indeed. From an Anthropological perspective, I would deduce the leftist not be accepted into genome of the Great ape , but known as the putrid remains of evolution gone amuck. All tyrant loving leftist elitists, should be recognized and spoken down, for their puny philosophy is the religion of heathens.
