I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

well i'll be...

GravatarAtrios -- How about a Fox News e-mail address so we can point this out to them?

GravatarHmmm, I think Dan Rather might like to know about this one.

GravatarDo you get the impression that we Journalists aren't very bright?

GravatarDan Rather! Dan Rather!

I'm still curious as to what it says when people just chuckle about Fox, but Rather is the end of the world.

Don't people realize that Fox has an absurd amount of influence?

GravatarYes, please point us in the right direction, via e-mail addresses or phone numbers, so we can battle the malicious creeps effectively.

GravatarOf course if they had interviewed ME they would have fact checked my name.
I'm just sure of it.

Have you seen this from Fox?
http://www.conspire.com/fox-phot...x- photoshop.jpg

GravatarI looked at the commies for JK link and it didn't appear to be Times Roman. Does that mean it's for real?

GravatarMaybe these guys and billionares for bush should get together for a debate.

GravatarI sure wish I could be"becoming my dream", but I have to spend the day awake. But all night I am free to entrepreneurship like crazy!

GravatarAnd people say Republicans don't have
a sense of humor....

GravatarI'll tell you what I do about fox. I've deleted them from my TVs. Now when I flip through the channels I'm spared the agony of watching morons jabber.

How to delete FOX forever
---------------------------------
1) open the setup menu on the TV
2) navigate to add/delete channels
3) select the FOX channel
4) select 'delete'

ahhh.....

Now if we all did this, it would hit where it counts, the wallet.

GravatarWould that make him a sock puppet, or a FOX puppet?

GravatarJodi Wilgoren, Girl Journalist, regardless of font type, I can recreate it in Word, therefore it must be fake.

GravatarShit like this gets out there, and, like the forged Fonda / Kerry picture, seeps into consciousness. NPR interviewed a vet who said he couldn't vote for Kerry 'cause of that picture. Did NPR's reporter tell the person it was a fake? Did NPR tell the listeners it was a fake?

Of course not.

Death, debt, and deception, on and on.

GravatarI'm sure it was an accident. Fox would never blatantly post something like that.

GravatarLooks like Fox has taken it down. Anyone have a screen shot?

D'you think Howie (Mistah) Kurtz will take Faux to task over this?

GravatarSpeaking of hacks, Broder outdoes himself today:

The debate confirmed that Kerry is simply incapable of appealing to people in personal terms. The kind of emotion Bush displayed when talking about Missy Johnson, the war widow he had comforted in Charlotte, just does not come from Kerry.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp...0- 2004Oct1.html

Gravatar"Do you get the impression that we Journalists aren't very bright?"

You gotta remember: The individuals working for Fox aren't journalists.

GravatarWhy not start turning off Fox's regular programing, boycotting the products, and emailing the sponsors and telling them why.

Gravataremd - Well obviously Karl has recovered enough to get the memos out to the media.

I can't believe Fox is actually this blatant. I really can't. This is disgusting and funny all at the same time.

GravatarHow about "Nazis for Bush"?

GravatarLater in the article, they mention the group "Billionaires for Bush" and correctly identify the spokesperson as a Bush "supporter". So they did communicate the satire in that case, but do not do so in the case of the "Communists for Kerry" representative.

GravatarWe need to absolutely flood those fuckwits at Fox with email for this shit and the manufactured quotes from Carl Cameron.

GravatarI'm sure it was an accident. Fox would never blatantly post something like that.
ortsed

...and never twice in one day!

GravatarHow about "Nazis for Bush"?-David

I second that motion.

Gravatartime to pile on Fox. These such a richness of material.

GravatarI spell it F-o-x, but I pronounce it, "Scum."

GravatarRupert's going to lose.

GravatarIt isn't Fox's fault. Bob Novak is picking up extra change while he is laid up in the Miami Hospital, writing feature stories for Fox.

GravatarOh - socialism is still the enemy. I thought enemy-of-the-month was "Islamofascism" now. You've got me confused.

GravatarRemember not to get too upset about the obvious bias against Kerry in all media...Save some outrage for the upcoming theft of election via voting machine.

GravatarCommunists for Kerry. To what level will they sink.

Nevermind.

My take -- they are putting these deceptions out on purpose knowing that many of the ding-bats that view their site will never read a retraction, or it they do, , will still continue to believe it.

They just like building those sraw men up...

GravatarAt Fox, it's "hard work" to constantly lie against Kerry, I mean, uh, it's "hard work" you know.

GravatarIs anyone ever going to hold this network to any standard?"

Of course not. What good would it do?

Gravatarsombody who watches this s##@ should alert those who don't what the next advertisment is, after this stuff, and we all should stop buying that product.
IT'S WAR

Gravatar"reassured fox news that his organization is not a parody group". Heh, heh, heh. From their website:

Top Ten Reasons to Pledge Allegiance to John Kerry

* * *

10. He will stop the current economic boom created by George W Bush.

9. He will replace the “two Americas” with one homogeneous welfare state.

8. He will redistribute rich republican widows, as well as all their currency, in a way that will benefit the poorest Americans.

7. He will give every American a free health-care kit containing an aspirin, a band aid, and a free medicine ration with your choice of any eight pills.

6. He will reform education by cutting the pork infested middle man and giving the much-needed money directly to students. In turn the students may decide to either give money back to their local public school, submit their currency to the Party, or purchase high quality cocaine, thus improving the economy and creating jobs.

5. He will shut down the Guantanamo Bay, a black spot within the heart of the South American brotherhood, and issue green cards to the prisoners, as a gesture of goodwill for enduring the heartache of mistreatment by the imperialist army.

4. He will end our dependence on Middle East oil by decreeing that all American cars be run on ethanol-based fuels derived from the fruit of the tomato tree.

3. He will eliminate pollution by harnessing the exhaust of the tomato-fuel refineries, and turning it into useful and profitable ketchup.

2. He will reinstate the cut taxes to subdue the menace to society known as “the successful businessman."

1. America will collapse in less than three years as a result and we will finally take over this country, bringing the Communist Revolution to the American shores. In due time, Potyomkin will be docking at port Boston!

GravatarWho among us doesn't love shitpile cable news channels?

GravatarOT- (back in reality) If you still think Kerry won the debate the other night,

you're still right! .http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/ A1771-2004Oct1.html

Work for a Kerry Victory.

and help...

Gravatarare we confused? is this story itself a parody? or is it really junior-league?

Who is Jane Roh, an idiot? Or is she joking around?

GravatarWorking so hard, Working so hard, working so hard BLOW ME.

1)I love the Nic Jodi Wilgoren, Girl Journalist

2)Shouldn't Fox have a tag on the logo? "Fox News -brought to you by the Republican Party."

3)Bob Novak was pushed. He should have security guards at the hospital. They don't want him to talk.

GravatarWhy is Broder supporting an obvious "girly-man" who gets all weeping and emotional? A real man does not cry, right AhNuld?

GravatarEmail complaints to foxnewsonline@foxnews.com

Mine follows:

Do you people EVER fact check anything before you post it?

(That's a rhetorical question. The answer is an obvious "no."

You are running an article on your website which includes the following:

"Of course, there were some Kerry supporters in attendance who had no doubts whatever about their candidate.

"We're trying to get Comrade Kerry elected and get that capitalist enabler George Bush out of office," said 17-year-old Komoselutes Rob of Communists for Kerry.

"Even though he, too, is a capitalist, he supports my socialist values more than President Bush," Rob said, before assuring FOXNews.com that his organization was not a parody group. When asked his thoughts on Washington's policy toward Communist holdout North Korea, Rob said: "The North Koreans are my comrades to a point, and I'm sure they support Comrade Kerry, too."

It is unclear whether the Kerry campaign has welcomed the Communists' endorsement."

You post a link to this "organization." On its own website, which we would assume someone in your organization viewed before posting the link, the group describes itself thusly:

"About us
"Communists for Kerry" is a campaign of the Hellgate Republican Club, a tax exempt non-partisan public advocacy "527" organization that exists for the purpose of;

"Informing voters with satire and irony, how political candidates make decisions based on the failed social economic principles of socialism that punish the individual by preventing them from becoming their dream through proven ideas of entrepreneurship and freedom."

Our members help elect candidates who support economic growth through Entrepreneurship, limited government and lower taxes. Communists For Kerry is separate and distinct from the Communist party of America and any of its organization. None of it's members are members of any communist organizations." (Emphasis and grammatical errors original).

So on successive days you have posted an anti-Kerry piece by your crack Kerry campaign correspondent which parrots insulting RNC talking points; and you have posted the above.

Finally, gentlemen, have you no decency?

How about posting apologies for the above "journalistic" atrocities?

Gravatarfor fox contact info, go here: http://capwiz.com/congressorg/dbq/media/

and type in fox in organization. a list of foxnews contacts is available.

GravatarHas Carl Cameron stopped blowing dogs yet?

Gravataroh christ,

I Cheneyed that up good,
well at least i didn't break haloscan.

a reason to smile

GravatarThis article isn't even newsworthy. If I wanted parody or satire, I'd watch The Daily Show. Although I hear that O'Reilly and Stewart are currently fighting it out to see who's the better satirist!

GravatarIraqis to Broder: He came in here and he trashed the place, and it's not his place!

GravatarOT, but does anyone else think that aWol realised about 10 minutes into the debate that he was losing terribly and decided to audition right then and there ("... Thinking and speaking is hard work Jim, very hard work, hard, hard, hard work."
)to take over BobDole's role as Viagra pitchman?

For FOX News Channel comments write to

except ignore the spaces between "foxnews" and "online" and between "comments" and @foxnews.com" which I added in order not to break HaloScan.

GravatarThat same story also quotes "Hugh G. Monunment VII," of "Billionaires for Bush," which is also clearly a parody.

What idiots.

Fair and balanced my ass.

GravatarLet's flood Broder's email. Atrios where be you?

GravatarMaybe Dan Rather should point out all this BS by Fox at the end of his show and chuckle at their expense like Prick Hume does at the end of his show.

GravatarEverytime I take a dump, my asshole blows the Faux news theme song.

GravatarAt Kerry's Kissimmee rally last night, someone gave him a small child to hold and the little girl didn't want to leave him.

Don't tell me he can't relate to people.

But Broder wants his own spin to get in the way of what we see with our own eyes.

GravatarSend David "Where's my teeth" Broder to the glue factory. That senile old fool is done.

GravatarI don't see what emailing them would do. They don't care.

GravatarI think Ima gonna write a letter to the editor of my local paper and sign it Nazi's for Bush.
What a great name for a group of yahoos

GravatarJohn Kerry should have pix taken with kitties and doggies - the animal people would love it.... and we know he's not going to drop them, right?

GravatarIt's no excuse for shoddy journalism, but this one was equally stupid--

READ THE PIECE --

There's anti-Bush group cited withour irony as pro-Bush "Billionaires for Bush".

If you cry unfair (rahter than stupid) each time, you can even alienate the sympathetic.

But, hey, that's never been aproblem for Democrats or the left.

GravatarAt Kerry's Kissimmee rally last night, someone gave him a small child to hold and the little girl didn't want to leave him.

The little girl knows a future president when she sees one.

GravatarWhere's General J.C. Christian when you need him? He needs to be writing to Fox on this subject, is what I'm thinking.

Gravatardavidbroder@washpost.com

Incog,

It is worthwhile to write them. They get away with this stuff because no one calls them on it. Look what happened when we all emailed Ohio about its silly paper requirements and what happend to Luntz when we let them know we were onto them. Conversely, look what happend to CBS when they were innundated with freeper e-mails.

It takes maybe 10 minutes to write and email a letter letting them know that they're being watched.

GravatarFox News wasn't snookered. Bubba and Billy-Ray down in 'Bama who rely on Fox news were the ones who were snookered.

Gravatar"Comrade Kerry" and "Capitalist enabler" Bush. Is anyone over the intellectual age of twelve supposed to...oh, this was on FOX. Never mind.

GravatarI agree with Incog. In fact, Can anyone point to where ANY of them respond or care about emails?

After spending a couple years in radio, I understand the 'cubic bucks' factor in relation to advertizing dollars. (and they pay big bucks for air time)

They could give a fuck less. Now, if we could somehow influence that money flow - you might make a difference. If anyone took the time to look at the CJR site today ('who owns what') -you'd see that most TV & radio owners have LOTS OF THEM!!

Ya gotta affect the income stream to make them listen. Chances are, they'll find another source of income.

GravatarIs this "Rob" from "Communists for Kerry"? He looks 17 years old to me.

GravatarI prefer Zombie Baby Eaters for Bush, but then again, I'm old-fashioned.

I'm all for satire, but what's with the decade-old commentary? *Communists* for Kerry? What's next, Dirty Hippies for Kerry? Beatniks for Kerry? World War I Vets for Truth?

GravatarHecate - MSNBC has like what...... 17 people that watch them?

/sarcasm OFF

Gravatarlying liars.

GravatarWhatever, this isn't about fact-checking; they did this on purpose. Meanwhile, did anybody else find the tone of that piece just a little bit scary? It read like something from the North Korean news service. At this point Fox is more than a network with republican bias. It is our official state media. We need to accept this and frame the issue accordingly.

As for Broder's little comment - when people can't afford the health care they need because they don't have enough money in their "health savings accounts" to cover it, I'm sure they'll feel a lot better if their president can act like he feels really bad for them.

Broder, of course, does not give a busted fuck either way.

GravatarHey Itsit,
Are you daft? The anti-Bush parody was identified as such. The anti-Kerry parody was...what's the phrase, hook-line-and-sinker.

Gravatarla times has a good piece on the split screen issue:
http://tinyurl.com/3jqxc

Split Screen Wasn't Kind to Bush
During the debate, the president often looked peeved as the camera focused on him reacting to Kerry. Each network made its own decision.
By Nick Anderson and Scott Collins
Times Staff Writers

October 2, 2004

WASHINGTON — The split screen gave the GOP fits.

On the day after the first presidential debate, many Republicans fretted that side-by-side images of President Bush and Sen. John F. Kerry drew attention to the president's expressions of irritation and annoyance while the Democratic challenger looked confident and composed.

According to procedures agreed to by the Bush and Kerry campaigns in a 32-page memorandum, the event was supposed to be televised only through isolated shots of each candidate as he was speaking.

Democrats said the Bush campaign sought that restriction. But the networks made no secret of their intention to ignore it.

Saying they were not parties to the Bush-Kerry agreement, network officials insisted on their right to use the split screen to show the reactions of the candidate who was not speaking.

That decision helped Kerry significantly at the debate in Coral Gables, Fla., many analysts said.

The reaction shots "were not that kind to the president," said Shanto Iyengar, an expert on political communication at Stanford University.

"I saw several shots of Bush grimacing and looking quite hostile during Kerry's criticisms of his Iraq actions. I certainly don't think he [Bush] came across as being especially likable," Iyengar said.

GravatarHave you seen this from Fox?
http://www.conspire.com/fox-phot...x- photoshop.jpg

Heywood - I'm not sure what the issue is with the two photos. Are you trying to assert that Fox doctored a photo?

GravatarI hate to rain on the parade, but I'm really tired of people calling the Bush Cartel "Nazis". "Nazi" is short for "National Socialist" and there isn't a socialist bone in Bush's body. Sure he's militaristic, has fascistic tendencies, seems paranoid, has invaded foreign countries, has extra-legal detention facilities--all elements of German Nazism. But in absolutely no sense of the word is he a socialist.

Gravatardon't forget poland!

Gravatardo those few on the other networks who still have pretensions of being "real journalists" not realize that they are being tarred with the same brush?

we need walter cronkite looking out from under his eyebrows and saying, "shame....shame."

GravatarBarndog makes a great point about bitching at the advertisers for the media whores as that's where the bulk of their money comes from.

We oughta pull an O'Lielly on them when we catch them in a lie. Bombard an advertiser on the media whores shows or papers about sponsoring outright porpaganda and lies.

GravatarI figured it out ... the nationally syndicated FOX news network is nothing more than an over-grown undergraduate humor magazine. I feel so much better now!

Gravatarbkny - I just have to laugh - Bush supporters are so brainless that instead of being nonplussed by their candidate's behavior, they are pissed for having his behavior shown as it really is as it was happening.

The Bush Repugs are either zombies or robots. They focus solely on the image and not on the real man.

GravatarI'd say 'set up Klan Members for Bush', because no-one would identify it as a parody.

GravatarHey carl p. - Seig Heil, baby. Bush and his cronies are fucking Nazis. Don't like it? LOL.

GravatarBut in absolutely no sense of the word is he a socialist.

Neither was Hitler or the Nazi Party.

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea isn't democratic, the USSR wasn't a Union of Soviet Socialist States and the Democratic Republic of Congo is neither a Democratic or a Republic.

GravatarTena

The Bush Repugs are either zombies or robots. They focus solely on the image and not on the real man.

You credit them with knowing the difference.

GravatarI'm sure it was an accident. Fox would never blatantly post something like that.

GravatarWASHINGTON — The split screen gave the GOP fits.

So let me get this right...

The GOPranos insisted on nominating a pampered wastrel for their candidate, even though he had lost his previous campaign.

And when the miracle of technology (what most of us call "cameras") reveals to the world what a spoiled, petulant ass he is, they complain about the media. Oh, it couldn't possibly be King Georgie's fault that he wasn't able to conceal his utter contempt for the democratic process.

GravatarIt ought to be noted that the actual Communist Party USA has, in fact, endorsed Kerry, just as they have endorsed every Democratic candidate since 1984. Not that this really makes this less egregious.

GravatarI think Carl was making fun of the right-wing "fascism is a leftist ideology" argument.

Either that or he's a knuckle dragging moron.

But given his Harvard email address(granting of course that dude could be an imposter), the tone of the post, and that it is in my nature to give people the benefit of the doubt, I'm going to go with parody.

GravatarI work for one of Rupert Murdoch's many holdings. Nothing to do with Fox News or I'd have to shoot myself, but I have been wondering for some time now whether I really want to support Murdoch's aims in any capacity.

Fortunately, the decision has been made for me -- I've finally been caught up in one of their periodic rounds of layoffs. I am surprised what a relief it is.

GravatarAnd when the miracle of technology (what most of us call "cameras") reveals to the world what a spoiled, petulant ass he is, they complain about the media. Oh, it couldn't possibly be King Georgie's fault that he wasn't able to conceal his utter contempt for the democratic process.

Jack Nicholson in a military courtroom suddenly springs to mind....

GravatarEmailed to Broder:

Thanks for parroting the CW, David.

Exactly how does one get from " he [Kerry] vowed he would not pull out of Iraq without a victory," to "the implication of his words is clear: If Kerry wins, the future of Iraq will be left to Iraqis." Can you quote some portion of Kerry's remarks either at the debate or previously that makes this statement supportable (it's not true, of course, but can you even supply a shred of evidence making it a rational thing for a well-paid pundit to put into print)? Kerry in fact stated that he would engage our (former, and now reluctant) allies in the world community on the subject of Iraq's future.

Bush's plan appears to be to "stay the course" so as to create an larger supply of war widows like Missy Johnson, whom he can then claim to have comforted. Making sure that Ms. Johnson's husband and the rest of our troops are only put in harm's way when it is essential is the President's job. Here the president failed; we went to war to test the neocon's pet theories, not because it was necessary.

Bush has to "appeal to people in personal terms" as you put it, because the stubborn facts of his failed policies simply cannot be wished away. Therefore, he cannot appeal to the people on factual terms. Thanks to pundits who have consistently refused to hold Bush to account for his failures, his approach may well succeed in getting him re-elected, to the great detriment of our nation.

GravatarRobert M Jeffers - Oops - my bad. You're right.

Yet, Robert, what I think has happened is that there are Repugs out there who have bought this pig in a poke because the poke says: "Republican" on it. I'm hoping that at least a handful of them have now gotten a clue.

GravatarOT- (back in reality) If you still think Kerry won the debate the other night,

so does ABC News Morning Wrap(and Pat Buchanan).

GravatarAnd when the miracle of technology (what most of us call "cameras") reveals to the world what a spoiled, petulant ass he is, they complain about the media

Bush's whole campaign has been an attempt to control every detail of his presentation. No press conferences to speak of. No one allowed into his speeches who hasn't signed a loyalty oath (and he gets away with this while receiving federal dollars for his campaign how?), anyone who dares to speak up is hustled off and arrested.

It's clear he can only repeat the same few talking points over and over (turned the corner, better off w/o Saddam, hard work) and simply cannot stand being challenged in any way shape or form.

Does anyone know who's handling the camera feed for Friday night? We should start writing to them right now and demand split screen. Because, you know, they'll be getting tremendous pressure from the Republicans not to show Bush's responses.

Gravatartena -- i've given up on bush supporters. i just figure they're retarded. but what i really don't understand are the undecideds. wapo has a piece on them this morning. like jason alexander said: WHO THE FUCK ARE THESE PEOPLE!

re the broder comment -- it is interesting that that's his criticism of kerry, when he's one of those highbrow old coots who turns his nose up at the 'oprahization' of u.s. politics. i hate that wdc cocktail circuit clique.

GravatarI hope that God damms Fox 'news' and its filthy whores to the worst part of hell.

GravatarI'd say 'set up Klan Members for Bush', because no-one would identify it as a parody.
anonymous in nc

klan members for bush, you say????

*** start dream sequence ***

Interview with The Ku Klux Klan: Jeff Berry: "Berry: Say The Klan liked George W. Bush. If we came out and supported him, don't you think that would hurt him?

Liberator: Yea...it may be perceived as the kiss of death.

Berry: If we wanted George W. Bush to win, we would make an announcement that we support his opponent because people hate the Klan so much. Just because we support a candidate, the media is going to find something racist about him and make him loose the election. That's how much control the news media has. "

GravatarOT- (back in reality) If you still think Kerry won the debate the other night,

so does ABC News Morning Wrap(and Pat Buchanan).
Robert

Yeah, we know Kerry won the debate, but we're still voting for Bush.

So there.

Gravatarcarpbasman: i wasn't trying to be a knuckle dragging moron...i guess this wasn't the right forum for my complaint. but i'm not an imposter, and do really really really want Senator Kerry to be the next president. so sorry to have given the wrong impression.

GravatarYIKES!! Pastor General Asscroft with his Revisionist Historical Context

Ashcroft's Flirtations with the Racist Right: "THE CUDDLY, obsequious warmth between John Ashcroft and the racist right is quite up front in his 1998 interview with Southern Partisan, a journal that glorifies the Confederacy and views people of color as mosquitos swarming onto the veranda to ruin the evening's mint julep.

In the precede to the interview, Southern Partisan said that Ashcroft, the nominee for attorney general, is ''a champion of states' rights and traditional values. He is also a jealous defender of national sovereignty against the New World Order. His bold leadership on these issues and others makes this Border State senator a natural for the pages of Southern Partisan.''

If Southern Partisan considers Ashcroft a ''natural,'' then his nomination by President-elect George W. Bush should be declared a natural disaster. After winning the political civil war, Bush has chosen to shoot the defeated in the back by elevating a man who praises the traitors of the real Civil War.

In Southern Partisan, Ashcroft praised the journal's defense of the Old South. He said, ''You've got a heritage of doing that, of defending Southern patriots like Lee, Jackson, and Davis. Traditionalists must do more. I've got to do more. We've all got to stand up and speak in this respect, or else we'll be taught that these people were giving their lives, subscribing their sacred fortunes and their honor to some perverted agenda. ... The right of individuals to respect our history is a right that the politically correct crowd wants to eliminate, and this is not acceptable. Take those history standards: the standards make no mention of Lee's military genius!''

GravatarI've recorded the REAL Communist Party's position over at my blog; suffice it to say, that they probably would prefer Kerry to Bush, but they're not endorsing anyone.

That said, I'd rather have Communists voting for Kerry than, say, the militias who helped out the OK City bombers...who of course are loyal Republicans generally.

GravatarHoist by their own petard yet again.

GravatarIs "Jane Roh" an actual reporter, or a psuedonym (ala "Jane Roe")?

GravatarDavid Broder must be senile. I'd love to confront these morons and ask them what evidence they have that allows them to make their ridiculous assertions?

How can they continue to shill for this administration?!!

Disgusting human beings.

Gravatarbkny, I don't understand the "undecideds" either, other than my rough impression that they seem like old-school Libertarians who should be called 'Contrarians'.

Gravatarcarl p.: This far down the road, does anyone really give a rat's patootie what the nazis' original "political philosophy" was?
I thought not.
Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's not raining on my parade.

Shit, did I just feed a troll?

GravatarClarification: If you're undecided it's because you're looking for something entirely different than what the candidates are marketing and ideology plays no role in your process. When have the candidates been so different (speech, height, intellect, accomplishments)

GravatarDan Rather is a professional journalists working for the network once number one, now number three. He made an error of judgment attributable more to competitive pressures than to partisan bias.
Cameron works for Fox. Fox exercises its First Amendment right to function as an agency of the Republican Party. That's a throwback to the nineteenth century, but if rabid Republicans can live only on pablum, that's their righ.
Still, it's naive and foolish to treat Fox as a journalistic enterprise, and to let them get by with pretending they're anything but a Republican publicity machine. These recent events have exposed them for what they are, had there ever been any doubt.

Gravatar"Iraqis to Broder: He came in here and he trashed the place, and it's not his place."

Then Bush-boy SOLD all of Iraq's remaining, un-broken stuff (assets) to corporations. What the F*CK right did he have to sell THEIR assets? Out-freaking-ragous. He should be in the World Court for that one alone. Oops, but he didn't sign the World Court treaty. How convenient. These guys are truly international criminals...

GravatarNTodd

Note how the photo on the left shows the height difference and the photo on the right makes it seem much smaller. It is a little thing, but that photos was clearly selected over other photos that make Bush look smaller. I might think it was photoshopped because of the bizarre lenghth of Bush's torso, but I found the orginial on line and noticed the same thing. I don't think the AP would doctor a photo, but notice how easily we believe that FOX would?

Here is the email that I sent to Chris Matthews
Dear Chris:

Did you notice that when Fox broke the rules and showed reaction shots how peevish and angry Bush looked? I don’t think he is used to anyone questioning him, ever. In the debate he demanded no follow up questions from the moderator and he demanded no direct questions from his opponent. At one point when Kerry called Bush on his continued false linking of Saddam Hussein to 9/11 I thought Bush was going to pop a vein and scream, “I wish I could challenge you to a duel!”

It was good to hear both candidates speak. Of all the lines tonight the one that struck my heart was when Kerry talked about this poorly planned war. “It is vital for us not to confuse the war, ever, with the warriors. That happened before.” We can honor the warriors, without honoring this war.

GravatarWhy on earth did I have to choose now to be reading all about 20th centure German history in preparation for my move over there? It's making me paranoid about what I see going on here.

GravatarWait a sec- they ALSO don't mention that "Billionaires for Bush" is a phony group, too!

And they've been called on that one before as well.

GravatarA Texan in Maryland, probably making the Germans paranoid too.

GravatarWell, as I said Carl, I thought your post was a parody and was giving you the benefit of the doubt.

Apparently, I was wrong, and you were seriously arguing that the Nazis were socialists rather than facists (or both, it's kinda hard to tell from your post exactly what you're arguing).

The thing about this argument is, not only is it seriously misguided about the nature of extremist politics, not only is plain wrong, it's an argument frequently batted around by the arch conservative ends of the blogosphere and is an almost sure mark that the person advocating it in a liberal forum is a troll.

It's a sort of argumentative kind of denial by those that inhabit LGF and Nicedoggie.net that allows them to miss the mote in their own eyes of their own outwardly fascistic beliefs.

Since you seem to be earnest rather than overtly disruptive, I'm treating you with a little more respect than I would a common troll. However, you must understand why that argument recieved the reaction it did, no?

GravatarAnd as far as any kinds of standards or jounalistic ethics go, they are a waste of time where Fox is concerned. I've said this before about the "news media", but it applies especially to Fox. These folks are selling cars and beer to the couch potatoes of America. Lots of cars, lots of beer, and just enough of the "right kind" of political spin to assure their place at the feeding trough. Let the political winds change, and watch the Fox change it's spots real damn quick. It's happened before.

GravatarUm, guys, gals, if you read the article on Fox start to finish (at least the one that's up there now), it should be clear that it's a feature piece that's attempting to spoof the man-on-the-street survey style of campaign reporting.

Like most bad writing, it tells more about its author than it does about its subject. The serious point here is not that the author is biased against Kerry (which is surely the case), but that he (or she) is feeding slurry into an important channel of public information.

GravatarJohn Kerry will have to be our generation's Lincoln. Especially if he wins the election and the republican's cry foul instead of accepting defeat.

When the republicans are defeated, we will need to be EXTRA vigilant during the time they are on the way out. Expect lots of pardons and lots of executive orders allowing drilling in the Rocky Mountains and in Alaska as parting shots to "help the country".

GravatarNote how the photo on the left shows the height difference and the photo on the right makes it seem much smaller.

Note how the shots were clearly shot at different instants from different angles. Occam would not smell conspiracy: just different placement of the AFP and Fox photogs.

Gravatarno imagination: I'm trying to find German news reactions to the debate and campaign in general. Everything I've come across scored the debate as a win for Kerry and notes that it improves his chances. Would that it were, would that it were...

From what I've seen, approximately 6% of Germans would like to see Bush win. There's a pretty even split between the CDU/CSU ("conservative" parties) and SPD and Greens (left). I've been told, though, that the CDU more closely resembles the more centrist US Democrats and Germans see the US Democratic Party overall as center to center-right.

Gravatar8. He will redistribute rich republican widows, as well as all their currency, in a way that will benefit the poorest Americans.

So that means I get a rich republican widow as my maidservant? Kewl!

GravatarThere's no way they didn't know this was bullshit.

They put it out there knowing their readers would believe it and would probably be too lazy to click through to the link.

They're desparate to say something crappy about bush. Desperate.

GravatarYa know, I don't know what's sillier: the fact that Fox News did this goofy shit or that anyone with two brain cells honestly thinks Kerry or the modern Democratic party has anything - anything - even remotely Communist about it. Seriously. I would love for someone to explain why a moderately progressive taxation system the requires actually not having deficits somehow equals uncut Marx and Engles.

GravatarIf you want to be just a tad freaked out in a fun sort of way check out the site: bushisantichrist.com
I found it when I searched, George W. Bush, AntiChrist.
I won't tell you why I searched that, long story, deals with Revelations, blah blah. But go to the site for a glance, but stay because it's so much fun (in a scary way)

GravatarSorry, that was they want to say something crappy about Kerry to blunt to the post debate criticism of Bush.

They've staked their whole campaign on ridiculing Kerry as a man unfit to be president.

In a short 90 minutes, Kerry put that whole lie to bed. Every bit of the republican spin has been lies and smears- they don't want the american public to see the real Kerry.

GravatarShouldn't someone be polling other groups to see where their votes are going? How about the KKK vote? Don't we want to know how heavy that demographic is swinging to Bush? How about the PERSONS WITH AN IQ BETWEEN 60 AND 80, don't we want to know how far they're leaning towards Bush? And let's not forget the GREEDY MOTHERFUCKERS group...I'm sure they're leaning for Bush too.

Someone call FAUX and get them on this right away!

GravatarThe Rude Pundit may be vastly misinterpreting this part of the debate last night, but did President Bush say that he fucked an Iraq War widow in the White House? Here's Bush, trying to demonstrate how much he cares about American soldiers dying in Iraq: " I think about Missy Johnson. She's a fantastic lady I met in Charlotte, North Carolina. She and her son Brian, they came to see me. Her husband PJ got killed. He‘d been in Afghanistan, went to Iraq. You know, it's hard work to try to love her as best as I can, knowing full well that the decision I made caused her loved one to be in harm's way." So, like, using the Led Zeppelin test of the word "love," it appears that George W. Bush fucked Missy Johnson in the White House in front of her four year-old son. Wow. That's a man who really, really cares about the soldiers. New ad: President Bush: He'll send you to die, he won't attend your funeral, but he'll gently fuck your wife.

GravatarI'm sad that so many Germans seem to have seen or read about that debate, as it will be just that much more embarrassing for me to admit that moron is my president and supported by nearly half of my countrymen.

However, it seems to have made them like Kerry even more.

GravatarHey Erica, have you noticed when Bish gets a tan or burn on his face a very strange "eye" like design appears on his forehead? The first time I saw it, it kind of freaked me out. What kind of mark is that, anyway?

GravatarDrudge has a teaser on Kerry's health disclosures. The clear implication is that he is HIV positive. Only when you read the last line of the NYT article do you learn that:

"He has tested negative for H.I.V., and has never been in trouble with the law for drug or alcohol abuse."

Unlike Bush, who has been convicted mutiple times for DUI.

GravatarCBS has a story on the Faux idiots--it's a lead on their website.

Faux is evermore like the National Enquirer or the NY Post. Something is going on here--F has some slanted stories but does anyone know if they ever planted this kind of crap before?

GravatarOops, that should read "Bush."

Gravatar"Drudge has a teaser on Kerry's health disclosures."

Of course, Bush has put off his checkup until AFTER the election. I wonder why?

GravatarDrudge has a teaser on Kerry's health disclosures. The clear implication is that he is HIV positive. Only when you read the last line of the NYT article do you learn that...

But Drudge will be able to claim that he obviously meant HIV-negative because he used "HIV -". That's a minus-sign, not a hyphen, though I'd bet he's hoping people won't notice.

Of course, Bush has put off his checkup until AFTER the election. I wonder why?

Because he tested positive for demonic possession. That totally won't go over with his fundy base.

GravatarCarpbasman, the original Nazi party under Feder was a supposed workers party- an amalgamam of socialist economics, rabid nationalism, and anti-democratic values. Later, when Hitler took over in 1920, the party minimized its socialist economic bent, promoting instead anti-semitism, anti-communism, anti-Versailles, and a more pro business bent. The majority of its adherents were lower working class folks disillusioned by their lack of economic prospects i.e. the depression, reparations, etc. When we labelled it facism, I'm not quite sure.

Anyway, it is quite legitimate to note that originally it was a "socialist" party. However, in no way was it a leftist movement ala communism.

As to facism, I often think the word is bandied about too much by both the right and the left. And I do understand your problem with Carl's post, since frequently rightwing nuts try to paint leftists as being responsible for facism. Rabid nationalism, properly zenophobia, and corporatism are more clearly the underlying factors/idealogies that fueled facism.

Anyway, Carl has a legitimate point, but I fail to see how it applies in this forum. For now, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

GravatarBecause he tested positive for demonic possession. That totally won't go over with his fundy base.

Humorous aside...my buddies The Drive-By Truckers have a song on their second album Pizza Deliverance called "Demonic Possesion". The last line has the devil complaining "He says the only thing that's buggin' him/Is hell's filling up with Republicans".

Man, I love that band.

GravatarA Texan in Maryland

I had a GREAT conversation with a German after the debate. I asked him all the questions that I want to know, not just assume. Of course he is a data point of one, but it was very helpful.

The republican's seem to think that our good reputation in the world community isn't really important. Why is it important that we have good relations with Germany?

He said that the world is complex and that one country can't deal with the world's problems. We need to work together. We in Europe are used to working together out of necessity. We have experience in it and we know not to go it alone anymore.

Some people say (see what I learned from Outfoxed?) that Iraq is such a mess that no country will join us in Iraq as part of a coalition.

He said that part of rejecting this war was rejecting Bush and his LACK OF A PLAN for the war. He didn't have an exit strategy; he didn't really want to build a coalition. They might not help out with Bush's war. But they will help with Kerry's mop up and plan for peace.

He asked me what Kerry's position on Global Warming was and the Kyoto treaties was, I admitted that I didn't know exactly, but the person I was with said that Kerry had a long voting history of support for the environment. He also noted that Kerry believed in SCIENCE! Unlike our president who shuns things scientific in favor of faith-based politics.

What I learned for the exchange heartened me. What I also learned was to ask questions first instead of spewing my views. By the act of asking him questions I not only learned something, but I was also able to find ways to effectively support his current views.

I have a feeling that he will go back to Germany with the feeling that not all American’s are anti-science idiots. And that the anti-science idiots are supports of the president.

This guy doesn't vote here, but when it comes time for him to support a vote for a coalition in Germany, he will support a Kerry sponsored coalition, NOT a Bush coalition.
That is why international support is important!

Gravatarmy buddies The Drive-By Truckers have a song on their second album Pizza Deliverance called "Demonic Possesion". The last line has the devil complaining "He says the only thing that's buggin' him/Is hell's filling up with Republicans".

Damn GOP. Ruining everything here on earth and in hell.

GravatarCarpbasman, yes, and as I said, this was the wrong forum. I was careless and didn't properly think about what the reaction would be. But now that I've thought about the reaction, I realize that I should be more careful about assuming that the private distinctions I make to make sense of the world are not necessarily shared. I've never been called a troll before, and, to be honest, it kinda sucks. Vote Kerry!

GravatarI SWEAR TO GOD-IF THE DEMS BLOW THIS ONE AND DONT TAKE DOWN FOX...

Everybody knew Fox was a repub station, but this even the Ignomericans can understand. Terry Mac should have people on this right away. This should be the dem mantra for the next week. Until they give a public apology. Even if Dems peel away 10% of their viewers, it is a start. Of course Kerry/Edwards should stay away from it.

GravatarA Texan in Maryland, yes the Germans are not all that impressed with Bush and see him as more a threat to world peace than terrorism. While not enthralled, they strongly favor Kerry. However, from what my friends say, you'll probably receive less political heat from the Germans than you would from the Irish. I too would be embarrassed going abroad and having to admit that Bush is our president.

Gravatarspocko: Thanks for telling me about this. Did he mention whether he leaned more towards the CDU/CSU, FDP, SPD or Green 90? Which Land was he from? I'm moving to Bavaria, which is apparently one of the more conservative ones.

GravatarBush can't get his physical because they will discover his Moronic Plague infection occuring from his bicycle crashing into the coffee-table he made from wood chopped on the old family homestead Ranch (purchased in '99) while he was having a pretzel watching football by himself.

GravatarIF THE DEMS BLOW THIS ONE AND DONT TAKE DOWN FOX...

Oh, really? Why should Dems deny Fox its freedom of speech, even though it's very often misleading and favors one political party?

You don't know much about this country. Do you?

GravatarTAKE DOWN FOX...

The reimposition of the fairness doctrine for broadcast is the place to start. Could FOX withstand fairness? Would the American people find out what journalism really is if they experinece it?

Deport Rupert and his foul brood. Smut peddlers, enemies of the people, whatever. He's done more than any other person to turn the United States into a toilet.

GravatarYa know, I don't know what's sillier: the fact that Fox News did this goofy shit or that anyone with two brain cells honestly thinks Kerry or the modern Democratic party has anything - anything - even remotely Communist about it.

Kerry and Communism are both bad so the comparison is accurate.

GravatarDon't Get Mad, Get Even Dept.

Fox News Exclusive: An anonymous White House source confirmed that President Bush did indeed fuck the young Iraq war widow Missy Johnson - multiple times, in fact - but vigorously disputed the assertion that any of their couplings occured in front of Ms. Johnson's four year-old son.

"That would have been unbelievably crass," the source exclaimed. "I mean, come on - give the President some credit for at least a modicum of tact. Jeeze Louise!"

The unofficial policy of allowing the President to copulate with attractive young war widows was implemented shortly after top advisor Karl Rove instructed the kitchen staff to begin surreptiously mixing in ground up Viagra tablets with the President's Fruit Loops each morning.

"Nothing like getting GWB horny as an old coot to bring out his fighting spirit," the source explained. "KR felt this was an easy way to get GWB revved up and ready to hit the ground running when we headed out on the campaign trail."

Unfortunately, First Lady Laura Bush - who in the past has born primary responsibility for attending to the President's libido - is no longer able to fulfill this role adequately, owing to the recent onset of menopause. "And GWB told me she used to be a really sweet piece of ass, too," the source said, shaking his head sadly. "It really is a crying shame."

Ms. Johnson was non-committal when asked if she'd received any pecuniary or other compensation for her sexual services. "Some things should be, you know, kept like private," she remarked .

Staff Reporter Carl Cameron contributed to this story.

GravatarI have contacted Dish Network to ask that every program on FAUX is listed as "Paid Programming". Truth in advertising.

GravatarGo to Donkeyrising to read about what looks like a great bounce for Kerry.

Newsweek apparently shows a bounce, too.

GravatarHere's what I find scary. In the same Fox article Atrios linked to regarding the Kommies, here is a quote from someone named Tom, who works in finance:

"In diplomacy, in the environment, in lying to the public and going into Iraq instead of focusing on terrorism, [Bush has] lost my vote," Tom said. "But I don’t like Kerry at all. I think he’s an opportunist, I don’t think he has much character. As a registered Republican I’m not sure I can vote Democratic and have it on my record when I really don’t like the guy."

So, my votes go on my record? Is that the permanent record my grade school teachers warned me about? Wow.

I guess Bush supporters like this, committed to a man they wholeheartedly disagree with, for an absolutely inane reason, are the ones reflected in the bizarre polls (I think Bush is taking us down the wrong road, I trust him and will vote for him).

GravatarYou can't hold Fox to standards of journalism. The cartoon section of the cable network is saturated already.

They'd have to go dark and then Rupert would come to the meetings and all that chanting the Lord's prayer backwards is such "hard work".

GravatarRe Kerry health. Anyone else thing this is one of the Karl Rove "surprises?"

Rovian techniques
1) Go after the opponent's strengths to turn them into weaknesses by questioning them.
Realize we still have a world of people who think that we would never stoop so low as to go after something that was truth and try and make it a lie.

2) There are NO consequences for pushing rumors. Slip them to the source of rumors that the press check regularly. They can't resist something that sounds real. Also, they can control the "balance" of the story. Our president is healthy, but we don't have to prove it. They do.

3) Set up the spin machine to see who will run with this one. To provide fake balance have some recent health issue that the president has dealt with exposed. "The president has a condition that causes dry eyes and mouth." Find the most minor condition that does this.

4) Put the real health issue of the president into the hands of someone who can be discredited. Find a doctor that we can discredit to break the story. That why we look at the Doctors credibility NOT the actual health issue Bush has. "Does Bush have a minor from of epilepsy? Does he have an early form of Cancer? Alzheimer’s?" All of them could be real, some would get him sympathy, some of them would scare off even the most nutty republican's OR make them MORE supportive and then they can attack the democrats for not practicing what they preach, "Why aren't you supporting the president, are you discriminating against people who have epilepsy? Remember, Alexander the GREAT had it!"

GravatarAnother person who doesn't know what a contraction is. My, my.

It's *don't*.

GravatarHey, a Faux shill shows up on the trackbacks. The point ignored being that Fox tired to sell the Communists as serious, but the Billionaires as for sure a parody.

GravatarAs a registered Republican I’m not sure I can vote Democratic and have it on my record when I really don’t like the guy."

When did they start recording how we vote? Did I miss something?

GravatarThere's something up with this physical postponement, but I'm not sure why. Once Bush loses in November, it will no longer be an issue that America has to worry about.

GravatarWhen did they start recording how we vote? Did I miss something?

Only votes counted on Diebold machines. Part of PATRIOT.

GravatarWell, when I start running the police state - as implied by that dingaling Usamabinlazy the other day - we'll be recording how you vote. Well, just if you voted. If you don't vote, we don't let you have any fun at all. You'll also have to listen to nothing but Michael Bolton and Mariah Carrey records.

GravatarHey, a Faux shill shows up on the trackbacks. The point ignored being that Fox tired to sell the Communists as serious, but the Billionaires as for sure a parody.
Assamite

Can't remember the details but I remember reading that in the 30s or maybe early 40s Reader's Digest tried to bribe someone serving time for espionage to implicate Franklin Roosevelt.

These crypto fascists all end up doing the same kinds of things.

Gravatarisn't there some provision that the president must have an annual physical or you're out. i mean, after all, if it's good enough for the air force/national guard, it should be good enough for the executive.

Gravatarhahaha - Lots of heads exploding at Freeperville over the Newsweek poll.

One comment was on Cheney tearing "wonder boy" a new one. Yeah, right, just like Bush was going to tear Kerry a new one. That one didn't go so well for them. Edwards is going to rip Cheney apart. I would rather have four root canals and open heart surgery at the same time than have to face Edwards in a live debate.

GravatarStop at nothing to bring these guys down.

These people could use everyone's help:

Adbusters.org
And specifically, Mediacarta.org

Don't just sit there, do something!! You telling me you can't spend 10 minutes a day bringing down Rupert? That's just as much bull as these two made up stories!

Gravatar"Liberal Media Commentator"

ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzz.....

NO. Even if Kerry was bad, there's no comparing him to any other bad things that he's not related to. Meanwhile, Bush has endorsed policies that benefit corporate cronyism. Next monkey please.

GravatarRemember, Cheney is a mean shit-covered bastard. His schtick is to be nasty, whether telling certified registered hand-picked Republicans in a Spontaneous Sincere Display of the People's Gratitude that voting Kerry is death or browbeating CIA analysts for telling the truth. A major accomplishment for him would be to try to make Edwards look inexperienced. "Look, I've been running the country for the past four years. He looks young. Who's better qualified?"

Gravatartheyeti, I don't watch Faux. In fact, I removed all the Home Shopping crap from my teevee, and I've just done the same to Fox.

Gone.

GravatarYeti, half of the people on this forum probably hadn't heard of Adbusters. Nearly NO ONE knows who they are in mainstream America. Fox news, on the other hand, is a fully mainstream network. Next monkey please.

GravatarOHSHITOHSHITOHSHIT I thought you were a trolltard. I didn't know you were an Adbusters supporter until I read your post carefully. SORRYSORRYSORRY!

Still waiting for monkeys, though.

GravatarI would rather have four root canals and open heart surgery at the same time than have to face Edwards in a live debate.

Edwards is also very easy on the eyes and from South Carolina. You know SOUTH Carolina.

Poor snarl-lipped Cheney. And he's told so many lies.

The Bushies have nothing. We saw Act I on of their final performance on Thursday.

I can't wait for Act II.

Gravatarbkny:

The military requirement for a physical was ignored by Bush, why should he change his methods now?

GravatarDon't be fooled folks they knew what they were doing.
What they were hoping for though was that you wouldn't catch on.
They figured that if anyone bothered to check the link they could always say that they never accused Kerry of being a communist, nor were they unawares of the nature of the group.

It's one of those cases where you can get away with it simply because you can't prove anything.

MYOB'
.

GravatarMYOB -- you beat me to it.

Communists for Kerry is very well known in wingnut circles as snarky good fun.

This was an obvious plant, not a screw up on Fox's part.

Remember that for months we've been saying it's just going to get worse and worse the tighter the noose gets on this admin. I shudder to think of what the next month holds.

Not to be accused of "on the other handism", but... on the other hand, I, too, can't wait for Slantymouth Cheney to debate our own Mr. Sunshine. In the post-debate spin, when they're trying to convince people Cheney was worn out from comforting Mount St. Helens victims, they'll reach quickly for that old goodie about Edwards being a slick lawyer.

And, I saw Going Upriver today. Inspirational. Made me so f*cking mad at those Swifties all over again. Cowards.

GravatarCarl P., No Imagination:

Fair enough.

Carl P.

I wasn't really calling you a troll because I didn't think you were one (hence the benefit of the doubt). Rather that, usually when someone says "Nazi's were leftists" that person is a troll. And that explains the response you got. You (I think) were arguing something subtler than that.

Anyway, you are no doubt not the first and probably not the last person to be wrongly labled a troll at Atrios. People's knees tend to jerk on the subject. Not unjustifiably given the overabundance of trolls around here, but at times people do tend to jump to the wrong conclusion just because someone posted something they don't agree with.

GravatarQuit setting high expectations for Edwards. Cheney didn't spend the last 40 years in the public by being a punching bag.

Cheney will do much better than Bush.

That said, I hope Edwards brings out the long knives.

GravatarI know its hard to resist whacking Fox over the head here but be careful..........It is Rovian that if this gets picked up in a newscycle evey comic and Pundit will be talking about cuticles and then we loose ...LET IT DIE a SLOW DEATH...KEEP you eyes on the PRIZE!!!!!!!!!! Bush out ion Nov 2nd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gravatarsay it with me now:
FuxSnooze.

GravatarNotice the article is "balanced" with a Billionares for Bush quote, followed with the word "supporter" in quotes to note the *wink* joke.

They don't do that for Communists for Kerry.

Gravatar Cheney didn't spend the last 40 years in the public by being a punching bag.

He spent his life being an opportunist, def. That hardly makes him smarter or invincible.

Gravatar"Communists for Kerry" is a campaign of the Hellgate Republican Club, a tax exempt non-partisan public advocacy "527" organization that exists for the purpose of [...]

Um, ok, so they're part of a Republican group but they're non-partisan?????????

GravatarI am waiting for the "Lex Luthorians for Kerry" article as submitted by free lance reporter Jimmy Olsen. I am sure they will do the due diligence on that one too.

GravatarI sent a protesting email to Lowermybills.com that was advertising on the offending page.I let them know, I now link their name and reputation with this further outrage by Foxnews.

GravatarHe spent his life being an opportunist, def. That hardly makes him smarter or invincible.

"Smarter" and "Invincible" not even close to what I said.

Unkle Dick might lie through his teeth and eat babies, but he will be composed and tough on Tuesday.

Don't expect eye-rolling and stuttering.

Do expect him to go on the offense and make the wingnuts happy.

Edwards will do great, but I doubt he will KO the VP. Cheney can take a punch and give it back. That's all I said.

It *IS* highly likely that Unkle Dick will get caught in his Iraq/OBL bullshit... but I doubt that the moderator will let the two get nasty.

GravatarAnyway, you are no doubt not the first and probably not the last person to be wrongly labled a troll at Atrios. People's knees tend to jerk on the subject.- Carpbasman

Precisely why I made my comment. Once, I mistakenly jumped on someone because I had failed to realize they were being sarcastic- I felt terrible. At times, I have seen long time posters, who may not post as often as they used to, called trolls.

Since the medium is the written word, it can often be difficult to pick up on somebody's nuanced, (and oftentimes confusing), language. Hence, I try to tag my stuff when I am being sarcastic, ironic, etc. and try to give the benefit of the doubt to someone until they prove themselves otherwise. But, as I said, given the subject matter, I can understand your response and concede that you in fact had not called him a troll. Perhaps, this may be a good lesson for Carl, maybe he will learn to express himself more clearly or how to broach a sensitive subject more tactfully. /leaving podium

GravatarNot a great deal of activity about this on Google News as of yet (me and News Hounds at the moment), but The New Republic and Cox News had items at the end of August identifying the group as a Republican operation.

The Washington Post appears to have been suckered as well, during the Democratic convention. New motto: "We're every bit as good as Fox."

No doubt we'll be hearing outraged calls for congressional inquiries into Fox News from Republican senators.

Really.

Any minute now.

GravatarShameless blogwhoring but...
when a Freeper criticises the French or mentions Communists for Kerry, you can point to this write up of mine: Investors To Baghdad Bush: Drop The Voodoo Economics, Mmmmkay!

It shows that global capitalists and their investment dollars now favour communist China and France over the US. The US was on top with global capitalists during the Clinton years, but all of that good will has been run over a cliff by catastrophic misjudgements on the economy by Baghdad Bush.

Capitalists love France more than Baghdad Bush! Capitalists love the Commies more than the Freepers!

Gravatarbeing surprised with anything FOX does anymore is just flat out pointless.

i really hope kerry does something about media bias when he's elected, specifically related to using FOX news as a beacon of what a news organization purporting to call itself a 'journalistic outlet' is allowed to get away with.

I have in my mind a bill named after fox, and like someone else said, a requirement that all future programs on fox have a little 'paid programming' tag in the upper-left hand corner until they either go off the air, or decide to finally give a crap about the word 'journalism'. until then they can fuck themselves.

Beyond reversing the trend in media consolidation, I don't think there's a lot the government should be doing in this case. This effort has to be more grass-roots.

I think we need more boycotts and general shaming of the sponsors of these programs. Given the number of liberals/Democrats in this country, there is a lot of purchasing power that is not being harnessed into political power.

Likewise, we need more exposure of the Scaifes, Coors, Koches, and others who fund the right-wing spin machine. I mean, when George Soros decided to dedicate $X millions to stopping Bush's re-election, I heard about it all over the media. But that's basically the same thing that these right-wing backers have been doing for over a decade. Why is it that I'd never even heard of Scaife until I'd read David Brock's book, and then did some follow-up research of my own? Sure, Soros is more open about his efforts, but that's not an excuse.

I think the groundwork is beginning to be laid, in part thanks to blogs like this, for a genuine liberal counter-spin effort. Until we see what the fruits of that effort are, I'd like to keep the government regulation of the media (beyond, like I said, reversing the trend of consolidation that began under Reagan). That doesn't mean that Democratic politicians shouldn't make a lot of noise about this crap, though--they should speak out about it in instances like this.

Gravataris it my imagination or are people on this board getting really trigger happy about classifying people as trolls? i say give new people more of a chance. if you suspect someone of being a troll, why not try to draw out all the rich trolly goodness before slamming them? it's more fun that way anyway.

GravatarI'll tell you what I do about fox. I've deleted them from my TVs. Now when I flip through the channels I'm spared the agony of watching morons jabber.

How to delete FOX forever
---------------------------------
1) open the setup menu on the TV
2) navigate to add/delete channels
3) select the FOX channel
4) select 'delete'

ahhh.....

Now if we all did this, it would hit where it counts, the wallet.

GravatarSent to Washington Post (David Broder should be ashamed, the nasty whore!):

Having read the editorial by David Broder, the undisputed dean of the Washington press corps, "Bush's Real Opponent," I thought a more accurate headline would be, "Bush's Unpaid Assassin." I don't know what the going rate for a mob hit is, but I'm sure that Karl Rove must have made you an offer you couldn't refuse.

I could barely believe my own eyes when I read: "A Kerry weakened by months of Republican rhetoric painting him as a vacillating wimp was far less of a threat to a second term than the disturbing news bulletins and television pictures from the Iraq battlefront." Meow. How catty! Surely you can do better than to spout such venomous vitriol. I would expect the heralded dean of the Washington press corps to avoid parroting the Republican's offensively vulgar and deceptively derisive depiction of an honorable United States Senator, former prosecutor, and brave war hero.

When your boy, George W. Bush, flunks public speaking 101 in front of 62 million viewers, it is the responsibility of an ethically sound press to present those facts. I'm well aware that you, Mr. Broder, are no reporter, but you are not a spinmeister for the Republican party either, are you?

The most shameful segment of your sneaky sniper duty was this: "The debate confirmed that Kerry is simply incapable of appealing to people in personal terms. The kind of emotion Bush displayed when talking about Missy Johnson, the war widow he had comforted in Charlotte, just does not come from Kerry." On what do you base that statement? Just pulled that one out of DeeCee's thin air, huh?

Once again, the press is asking --- no, demanding --- that the American people ignore facts, reason, and logic, and choose a President based on likeability, emotion, and short snappy sound-bites. Now, that approach might appeal to a few girlie-men, those who have no understanding of military "strategery," economics, or world affairs, but it repels us C students who haven't forgotten about Poland! Those of us who can locate Tora Bora on a map also know that 1,052 Americans have died in Iraq, over 10,000 Iraqis have been killed, a barrel of oil costs $50.12, we're running a federal deficit of $422 billion, assault weapons are back on the street, 1.9 million manufacturing jobs have been lost or outsourced, and Medicare premiums have increased 13%. With facts like those keeping me up at night, I can't rely on cutesy emotional stories to determine who will lift our nation out of the quagmire George W. Bush dumped us in. Plus, the reoccurring nightmare I have of He-Who-Is Often-Confused-With-Saddam ordering another strike on our vulnerable borders robs me of all patience for those people who think George W. Bush should be given a second term.

You, in your infinite wisdom, sir, went on to write: "I have argued for a long time that Bush's real opponent in this campaign is n

GravatarIt's not clear how much of that is satire and how much is poor reporting. It's like they're having a nervous breakdown over there.

Gravatar(continued)
You, in your infinite wisdom, sir, went on to write: "I have argued for a long time that Bush's real opponent in this campaign is not John Kerry but the Iraqi insurgency, and unfortunately that is turning out to be the case. Bush did nothing during the debate to defuse the threat." This is illogical. What threat? That the Iraqi insurgency would be discussed openly? That the President would have to answer at-length and in depth about Iraq and the carnage happening there, instead of reciting a few shop-worn, over-used phrases in front of a limited number of pre-screened loyal supporters? How could Bush do anything during the debate to defuse the threat? Perhaps if he had been in the habit of responding to the American people with weekly press conferences, daily news briefings, and open campaign appearances he wouldn't have become undone at the seams. How ugly was that unraveling?

At any rate, your premise is faulty, irrational and biased. John Kerry made a direct emotional link with me when he said these words: "95 percent of the containers that come into the ports, right here in Florida, are not inspected. Civilians get onto aircraft, and their luggage is X-rayed, but the cargo hold is not X-rayed. Does that make you feel safer in America?" Those words stirred my heart because I know we're not any safer now than we were on September 10, 2001. And that's why I will be voting for John Kerry. that's why I'll be urging all my friends and family to vote for John Kerry. That's why I'm asking you, as a responsible journalist, to either help bail water on this sinking ship or put down your pen while John Kerry navigates this ship through these dangerous waters.

Perhaps your words were written because you're stressed out by the barrage of bad news that keeps coming out of Iraq. If so, that's perfectly understandable. Why don't you round up a few of your co-workers there at the Post and indulge in a few hours of group sex? According to the Vice-President's favorite hunting partner, it does wonders for social tension.

GravatarEmail your papers guys. Lets give this story legs. Fox is a joke

GravatarMissed this bit later on in the article:

But being in the vast minority was empowering to at least one Bush fan. A willowy, tattooed brunette who bore an eerie resemblance to Kerry's daughter, Vanessa, heckled the Democrat from her perch atop a table. Several in the crowd yelled at her to "Shut up!" while others resorted to misogynistic name-calling. Unfazed, she appeared to relish her unpopularity.

Gravatar"network"?

Gravatar the Hellgate Republican Club, a tax exempt non-partisan public advocacy "527"

Am I missing something?

Gravatardef, i think the wingers who like cheney like him a lot. but most people don't like him at all.

GravatarYou'd think they'd come up with a better excuse than fatigue. That's the same excuse they are using for Bush's shitty debate performance.

"After withdrawing the item, Fox posted a statement on its Web site apologizing for the error. It said: "The item was based on a reporter's partial script that had been written in jest and should not have been posted or broadcast. We regret the error, which occurred because of fatigue and bad judgment, not malice."

GravatarPhew! I must have been grading papers for too long today. I thought the post read "Hellmouth Republic Club."

How's Kerry polling among the undead, anyway?

Gravatar"It ought to be noted that the actual Communist Party USA has, in fact, endorsed Kerry, just as they have endorsed every Democratic candidate since 1984. Not that this really makes this less egregious."

uh, no.
http://www.cpusa.org/article/art...eview/591/1/27/

"In the past month, several phony reports have been circulated by right-leaning papers and websites -- making various false claims about the Communist Party position on the 2004 elections.

Some have dabbled in dirty tricks to smear Kerry using the toxic mix of red-baiting and forgery. For instance, several websites have allowed a forged document to be posted that appears be an official CPUSA endorsement of Kerry, but it is in fact an incompetent counterfeit"

There was a wingnut email awhile back making this claim; same technique as the email about THK alleged funding for terrorist groups. (and btw, THK and the Heinz Foundation have no relationship to the Heinz Company; first hubby divested years before his death)

GravatarDon't know if it's been noticed before, but anyone think it's funny the idea that Bush's performance was because he's not used to having his views challenged? What a damning account of the failure of the media to hold Bush accountable. Why is it that he was able to get away with having so few press conferences? It's no wonder he's so out of touch, how else is he going to know what the people want, if the press isn't asking the tough questions. It's not just Bush's advisors, it's the whole crowd of media people that have been covering him that are the "sycophants".

If FOX doesn't fire Carl Cameron it'll be clear that the network has too much power over the public.

GravatarFifteen years after the "revolution of 1989," the right wingers still can't let go of red-baiting.

Kerry stood next to "Hanoi Jane" at a rally. Kerry went to a secret meeting in Paris to sell us out. Liberals want to ban the Bible. Kerry calls himself a metrosexual. Kerry lied in order to get his medals. Kerry wants to wage war by showing al-Qaida our soft side. And now, Kerry is the candidate of the communists.

If a candidate has to be supported with lies, then the truth is against him.

As long as the right-wingers are defending the Bible, how about that commandment that goes, "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor" (Exodus 20:16)?

GravatarNah, Commandment-wise, Neoconservatives like Mr. Limbaugh, Mr. Gingrich, Mr. Giuliani, Mr. D'Amato, Neutron Jack Welch and Henry Kravis much prefer another of the Top 10.

GravatarFox has revised the article to point out that the group is a satirical group that actually favors Bush.

GravatarThey've now changed the article and acknowledge that it's a parody group, in tandem with "Billionaires for Bush."

Does anybody have chaches of the piece that was posted with the phony Kerry quotes and the original version of this article, so they can't weasel out of these gaffes ?

GravatarI dunno...normally I'm against Fox and for Atrios...but I thought the article made it fairly obvious that the Communists for Kerry were Bush supporters trying to screw him.

What's the problem?

GravatarAh, they revised it. Nevermind then.

GravatarThe sublime and the ridiculous are often so nearly related, that it is difficult to class them separately. One step above the sublime makes the ridiculous, and one step above the ridiculous makes the sublime again

GravatarThe latest Fox News revision:

Editor’s Note:

In an version of this article that was published earlier, the Communists for Kerry were portrayed as a group that was supporting John Kerry for president. FOXNews.com’s reporter asked the group’s representative several times whether the group was legitimate and supporting the Democratic candidate, and the spokesman insisted that it was.
(emphasis added in this paragraph)

Fact checking? What's that?

People as naive and incompetent as this should never be allowed to operate communication tools. They'll hurt themselves.

GravatarAnd of course our earnest Mr. Cameron of recent Faux manicure story fame had previewed the Commies for Kerry theme this June when he felt it newsworthy to note that Langston Hughes, from whom Kerry sometimes quotes, had "praised communism". Read about it at MediaMatters
http://mediamatters.org/items/20...ms/ 200406160011 .
Somehow at the time he forgot to note the Bushes praise of Hughes.

GravatarPlease go to the link and read the article at the Fox website. I am a Kerry supporter and understand that Fox is a Republican network, however, what is written here does not match what it says in the Fox article.

Gravatar"FOXNews.com’s reporter asked the group’s representative several times whether the group was legitimate and supporting the Democratic candidate, and the spokesman insisted that it was."

At least CBS sent the documents to experts before selectively using their advise. FOX doesn't even do that when it thinks the quote will hurt Kerry.

GravatarI take it all back. The link leads to the "revised" article about Commies for Kerry. Guess Fox news remains the kind of "fair and balanced" that gets away with crap.

Best thing to do is flood the other networks with email telling them to have at Fox for poor reporting.

GravatarGee. Naive and incompetent. The Foxies naively believed that reporting that a Communist organization supports Kerry would damage Kerry's chances. And to top it off they incompetently published their phony reporting and spread it as widely as possible.

Poor bastards need your sympathy. They've certainly got mine.

GravatarSo let me get this straight. Dan Rather presents a verifiably true story marred by bad fact checking. The world immediately comes to an end.

Fox News presents two verifiably false ludicrous stories marred by no fact checking. No one knows about it because the other networks are too afraid to bring it up.

GravatarSpeaking as a Billionaire for Bush, I will say that these Faux Pinkoes were specifically set up to counter us legitimate Billionaires. In fact, during the RNC, the little reds came out to the protest the protest... and specifically, we of the upper crust!

And to think, all we were doing was supporting the excellent financial planning capabilities (for us) of this administration! What a faux-fox-pas on their part!

We Billionaires, do not look down upon these website-impaired, misguided, Commies. We know that we'll have more money then they can ever dream of! Is that, I ask, why they hate us?

Now, maybe if they were humorous, we would actually be offended!

GravatarHere's a mail I wrote to the Hellfire Boyz (not sure why, I just felt inspired to write them...)

Hi,
with all due respect to your organization, your ideals, and your commitments, I would like to relate a small bit of personal experience.

I am an American living in Germany (been here 8 years). Germany is a so-called "social democracy", which, to put everything in a simplified nutshell, means: high taxes and excellent social services. As an employee I get for my tax bill: excellent free health care (much more unbeurocratic than the whole HMO-red tape hell in America!), retirement benefits etc. etc.

It's a trade-off. Sometimes I think I would like to have more of my salary (less taxes), and decide for myself how much health care etc. I would like to have. But: the German model is a very valid and functioning state model, one which does not in any way infringe on the basic democratic rights of the individuals living here. Voter turnout is higher than in America, the media are VERY open and critical of the government in their reporting, and people are free to travel, change jobs, pursue their dreams and do other things associated with the term "freedom".

The fact that the government takes a big chunk of your salary away for health care, unemployment, and retirement is probably what you would object to, as this could be interpreted as an infringement on individual financial freedom - fair enough. However, "freedom" is a complicated concept. It could also be argued that in this system, I am "free" from worry about my health care costs, unemployment benefits if I lose my job, etc. In short, the state provides me (and everyone else in Germany) with a valuable service for my tax bill.

As far as "becoming your dream" goes, I was unable to afford college in America, and was stuck in jobs which I felt were under my abilities. Since coming to Germany, I have taken advantage of the fact that going to college is FREE here to get my Masters degree, and am working as a software engineer in a medium-sized software house here.

I'm not dissing America, certainly a part of my problems getting a college education there had to do with my own personal discipline, but let's just say that in Germany, I didn't so much have the feeling that the cards were so stacked against me, and gave me a "springboard" to become something better.

My point is essentially that a certian degree of 'gasp' socialism is not necessarily detrimental to individual liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and that your statement:

"...the failed social economic principles of socialism that punish the individual by preventing them from becoming their dream"

simply does not apply to the very succesful social-democratic West European nations.

If by "socialism" you are thinking of Stalinism or the brutal, totalitarian regimes in the former USSR, or North Korea today, well, of course they are evil, but that's like saying "our organization is against Na

GravatarSo, what's up with Fox News first silently editing out their errors and then attaching a correction notice a few hours later?

GravatarAs a UK resident I can assure Americans that most intelligent people here think of FOX News as a joke!

In fact friends have castigated me for wasting my time reading their website - I only do so seeking laughs.

I watched the "debate" on CNN - my overwhelming impression was Bush repeatedly saying "it is hard work, it is tough going, etc." begging the obvious question "Why is he bothering to run again if he cannot handle the hard work involved in running the country?"

I noticed Kerry did not say that he would start by firing Halliburton - Kerry said that when he appeared on Letterman's The Late Show.

Most cringe-worthy moment was when Bush claimed "every life is precious!" This from the Governor with the record number of executions in his term of office!

GravatarThe FOXNews story [1] has been modified and now has the
following at the bottom:

Editor's Note:
In an version of this article that was published
earlier, the Communists for Kerry were portrayed as a
group that was supporting John Kerry for president.
FOXNews.com's reporter asked the group's representative
several times whether the group was legitimate and
supporting the Democratic candidate, and the spokesman
insisted that it was.

I guess the Fox reporter just got a bad break. After all,
being a bit suspicious, she did ask the guy in the bar
*several* times if Communists for Kerry was on the level.
And he *insisted* it was.

To help their fair, balanced but overworked reporters (it's
not easy interviewing people in bars) Fox might hire an
editorial assistant to do fact checking. That nice young
Mr. Google is available. He's a hard worker, knows a lot,
and doesn't waste his time flirting with the interns.

Gravatarthe Fox News piece now (Sunday monring at 10am) has the following lead in:

"And then there were the pranksters in the audience . . . the Communists for Kerry (who, in fact, are rooting for Bush) and the Billionaires for Bush (who, of course, are Kerry supporters)."

Question - if this is how it reads now, did it read like this before? As I read through the comments above, it seems as if they changed it. Did anyone capture an image of the article when it first came out?

Gravatar"Communists for Kerry" is a campaign of the Hellgate Republican Club, a tax exempt non-partisan public advocacy "527" organization that exists for the purpose of [...]

Um, ok, so they're part of a Republican group but they're non-partisan?????????

BIGGEST point I think about here...how the hell are they getting a tax exemption? Forget whining about it here, lets get the damn IRS on their fake-communist asses. They ought to be stripped of that status, this is outright fraud if they are not communists...

and they are not paying taxes? This crapola is coming out of OUR shares folks! Get angry!

GravatarHellgate Republican Club.

The un-Christian members of the Republican Party?

But seriously, the Republicans are getting desperate and using McCarthism tactics more and more to keep Dubya in control.

Like I've always said. Bush is NOT a Christian but rather a criminal.

When the Bush passed his Medicare bill for prescriptions and someone threatened to fire some employee over that bill if this certain employee told congress the bill was really some 1.5 BILLION dollars more that the bill was being presented to congress - will that was impeachable material - The PRESS DID NOTHING about this story.

This was very much a white collar crime and Bush and Cheney should have been impeached of that issue. The press isn't working anymore - end of story.

GravatarBut I saw the Billionaires for Bush at the vote for change concert last night in Ohio and they said they were for Bush. I mean, I asked them... where was Fox?

GravatarWhat's funny is that every commie I know wants Bush to win. Revolution will come sooner and all that.

GravatarI agree with Tuttle.

And every muslim that I know wants Kerry to win. Revolution will come sooner and all that.

GravatarSo, it would be okay if we started up a 527 and called it "KKK for Bush", and made up completely false quotes about the man and inferred that he maintained membership and support from that group?

GravatarFor Carl P. and the Nazi issue, don't forget Mussolini's definition of fascism: "fascism is corporatism. " If the Nazis were socialists, it would be odd for such capitalists as Joe Kennedy, Henry Ford, and Prescott Bush (convicted for trading with the enemy in 1942) to support them.

GravatarWTF are Colleges "teaching" journalist students these days?

Don't actually question people and do research before you write a story? Oh...sorry...that would be "hard work."

GravatarFranklin Delano Roosevelt, after five years of his presidency, in a formal message proposing an investigation of monopoly in the nation, said:

"The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic State itself. That, in its essence, is Fascism -- ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or any controlling private power."

GravatarJillian

I have a friend who has worked in journalism and PR, who defended the "stenographer at a press conference" approach to journalism as being fair to both sides.

The problem is, if you just print what both sides say without doing any research, you give a tremendous advantage to whoever is more willing to lie.

Don't compare this to Rather by any means.
