Atrios,

Aren't those 2 new Hoeffel ads?

that's what i wrote

GravatarCan someone explain why Michael J. Fox is doing an ad for Spectre? Sure, Spectre supports stem cell research, but his party doesn't. How can he pick Spectre over Hoeffel?

And what is the deal with that Sister Mary Scallion supporting Spectre? Spectre is arguably pro-choice and feverishly pro-death penalty.

I don't think I've ever seen a priest or nun or any religious endorsing a senator in a TV ad.

GravatarAnd besides, Arlen Specter killed Jesus.

GravatarGreat ads!

GravatarWhat a hilarious debate. BTW, if anyone doesn't know, Clymer's in the middle of a wonderful lawsuit: a gay couple tried to get married, they were denied a permit, so Clymer and his conservative buddies sued *the couple* on the theory that the uncertainty surrounding gay marriage in PA was a threat to their economic interests.

Oh, the name of the lead plaintiff suing? "Creative Protrusions." Yuck yuck.

Bastards.

GravatarLive blogging from the debate...oh my, Specter is slapping Huffy all over the set. Bye Bye Huffel, guess you'll have to try to get a spot in the Rendell admin afer your 11/2 butt whipping.

GravatarThe Hoeffel "Stands" ad is probably a contender for most mentions of the candidate's name in 30 seconds. Looks like they've heard of the name recognition issues.

GravatarGore Lawsuit Challenges Australian Election Results

(2004-10-09) -- Just hours after the polls closed across Australia, and Prime Minister John Howard headed for his fourth term, former U.S. Vice President Al Gore filed a lawsuit in international court at the Hague alleging "irregularities" in the balloting.

The election was seen by many as a referendum on Australia's participation in Operation Iraqi Freedom and the subsequent efforts to bring democracy to Iraq. Mr. Howard's opponent, Mark Latham, had promised to withdraw Australian troops from the Coalition.

"Somebody was disenfranchised or coerced down under," said Mr. Gore, now an itinerant professor. "John Howard betrayed his country. He played on their fears. There's no way they could have re-elected him legally. We'll fight this result all the way to the U.N. Security Council if need be."

Democrat presidential contender John Forbes Kerry expressed displeasure at the Australian election outcome.

"This is the wrong election result, in the wrong place at the wrong time," Mr. Kerry said. "Think of the precedent this sets."

GravatarI thought the debate was great, and not just as a debate, but as theatre. Best line of the night was Joe to Specter, "What century are you legislating in?" Joe sounded relaxed, confident, engaging, well-informed and articulate than he did at the first debate. And his closing statement was as clean and clear a presentation of the choice we have on Nov. 2nd as anyone could wish for. Specter: between droning on about his resume and puffing his professional prospects on the appropriations committee, the Senator sounded like he was trawling for voters at a single's bar. He didn't have an answer to the question Hoeffel raised about the Holmes appointments. As for Clymer and Summers, bless their wacky little hearts; I've grown very fond of them. They're sincere in their beliefs and honest, unlike our resident anonymous troll. I hope they make off with every Toomey voter in the Commonwealth.

A mid-southern gentleman here.

Please have Mr. Hoeffel remind people that he can bring foreign policy as an advocate for moderation in Israel.

With moderate resolve in the Mideast it would make the goal of terrosit containment quite possible.

Containment ended the cold war with little bloodshed. It can help isolate terror networks by robbing them of fertile recruiting grounds.

Containment works and will again. Remember they keep talking about how the terror war will last decades.

Containment lasted decades and worked with far less collateral damage.

There is a valid infrastructure to facilitate containment. The secular body of the UN and the various NATO and non-NATO status alliances we are in can coordinate these efforts.

The best result of such would be that none of these coalitions would impose a greater burden or risk to America, they exist already, and their communication/response and cost/benefit levels are the best value we have to addressing the morphed and multifaceted terror approach of the AQ network and its splinters.

GravatarI watched the debate. Heoffel did the best of the 4 there. I swear Specter was sleepwalking through the whole thing. Definitely a good showing though for Hoeffel. He'd called Specter out numerous times. Definitely the smartest guy in the room.

GravatarWait, we must get properly riled up..

ahem..

Grr, you are so dastardly to say mean things about [Hoeffel/Kerry/Democrat of your choosing]. We are so upset. You have a lot of nerve to come to this board from [Freerepublic/Foxnews/FatMenInDiapers.com] and bother all of us. Oh, whatever are we to do?

Now that we are this outraged, you may return to [arguing over which Star Wars rox the most/bidding on Lord of the Rings figures on eBay/masturbating to fat men in diapers--one of which may be your real father].

Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
Management
