GravatarI have contacted both my local Representive the Honorable William Jefferson and my Senator Mary Landrieu. The following is what Rep. William Jefferson from Louisiana e-mailed me back. I think the more Democratic elected officials who get in the fight the better we will be.

I do support the Democratic Party re: Sinclair.

I am asking you to support the Democratic Party's effort to stand up to Sinclair Broadcasting in their attempt to smear an American War Hero. I know that you are a fighter for truth and that is why I am sure that you will join in the fight. Thank you for all your hard work for New Orleans, the great state of Louisian, and the U.S. God bless you and God bless America.

Gravatardo you think the heads of sinclair goto together before deciding to run the movie and anticipated that they would get an advertising shitstorm as a result of pulling a stunt like this and decided to go through with it regardless? or do you think they just dove into it without any sort of periphrial vision whatsoever, ala der fuhrer?

either way, what a bunch of maroons.

GravatarThis might be a touch OT, and a bit lengthy, but to aid anyone who's planning on contacting advertisers, here's a list I made. Gadflyer listed some email addresses for national companies that advertise on Sinclair, one of which is Procter & Gamble, a major maker of home products. So I did an off-the-cuff assessment of my P&G buying habits (go to www.pg.com for a list of brands) and then cross-referenced to other major marketers' brands (caveat: these other guys may just as easily be Sinclair advertisers, but hey, one at a time):

P&G Switch to
Cascade Palmolive (Colgate)
Bounty Viva (Kleenex/KimClk)
Tide Surf (Unilever)
Puffs Kleenex (KimberlyClk)
Charmin Scott or Cottonelle
Always Carefree
Pantene Aveeno
Infusium Neutragena
Pampers/Luvs Huggies
Ivory/Noxzema Ponds/Dove/Lux

(My apologies if this comes out with wacky formatting, I'm a bit of a Haloscan novice.)

Anyway, if you contact the station sales managers and then the P&G PR contact, you can make a similar list of easy-to-swap product brands. Brand loyalty is the MAJOR currency of marketing/sales. And it doesn't have to be logical, should any of these companies also advertise on Sinclair (i.e., you can swing the stick both directions, depending on whom you're trying to leverage).

Kimberly-Clark www.kimberly-clark.com
Johnson & Johnson www.jnj.com
Unilever www.unilever.com
SC Johnson www.scjohnson.com
Colgate-Palmolive www.colgate.com

Gravatarwastelandusa: Good question re: whether Sinclair anticipated advertising shitstorm . . .

Answer: No.

This looks so much like a "sleeper cell" Rove move . . . and those turds at Sinclair clearly don't think their shit stinks.

But it does. And the stench is gonna bring them down.

GravatarStart with auto dealers. They're big buyers, and they rely upon cultivating a reputation for home-town honesty.

Tell them that you'd rather not see their reputation tarnished by being associated with Sinclair. Mention other stations that offer real local coverage that isn't dictated from Baltimore. (Especially good in the South and Midwest.)

And yes, this is meant to keep us busy for a couple of days while the wingnuts sit on their bloated asses. But Sinclair's own bloated ass depends upon a Bush victory, since it's only that which will provide the further deregulation that can keep 'em afloat... they're desperate.

GravatarI could get to the list of advertisers about an hour ago, but now it's being blocked by my corporate firewall. I work through a few agencies for the gubment, but my corporate location and facilities belong to Lockheed Martin.

If you live in DC, you've been inundated with Lockheed 'leader' advertising all over the place for the past few months - most trumpeting Bush in one way or another, but not so directly that Lockheed can be accused of openly campaigning for Bush.

Just a little conspiracy theory is all...

GravatarJust a note to Wisconsin readers:

The advertising on the Milwaukee Sinclair stations (WCGV and WVTV)is the Milwaukee Bucks.

Our Senator, Herb Kohl owns the Bucks. I just phoned his local Milwaukee office (couldn't raise anyone in DC) urging him to pull the Bucks advertising from these two stations. I will phone the Bucks organization and do the same (414-277-0500).

On Wisconsinites...defund the defamers...

Gravatarwastelandusa,

On another post I mentioned that I think that it is quite possible that Sinclair just threw this out as an easy way to throw shit at Kerry and motivate w's base while having no intention of actually airing this propoganda.

As with 527's who produce controversial spots and get a lot of coverage w/o even having to air them, Sinclair gets to discredit Kerry with shameful attacks.

It can then announce "Because of relentless attacks against us by well-financed special interest groups and the threat of lawsuits, we will be unable to air the documentary that the Kerry campaign does not want you to see."

Very plausible, no?

I think so too. Then, they rush it out on DVD and treat it is the "balance" to F9/11, and the media dutifully spin it that way too...with lots of attention paid to the "censorship" issues.

FCC COMMISSIONER STATEMENT ON SINCLAIR AIRING OF ANTI-KERRY SHOW
Tue Oct 12 2004 13:39:02 ET

FCC COMMISSIONER COPPS CRITICIZES SINCLAIR CORPORATE DECISION TO PREEMPT LOCAL STATIONS FOR POLITICAL BROADCAST

Commissioner Michael J. Copps reacted to reports that Sinclair Broadcast Group will preempt more than 60 local stations across the country to air an overtly political program in the days prior to the Presidential election.

Copps stated: “This is an abuse of the public trust. And it is proof positive of media consolidation run amok when one owner can use the public airwaves to blanket the country with its political ideology -- whether liberal or conservative. Some will undoubtedly question if this is appropriate stewardship of the public airwaves. This is the same corporation that refused to air Nightline’s reading of our war dead in Iraq. It is the same corporation that short-shrifts local communities and local jobs by distance-casting news and weather from hundreds of miles away. It is a sad fact that the explicit public interest protections we once had to ensure balance continue to be weakened by the Federal Communications Commission while it allows media conglomerates to get even bigger. Sinclair, and the FCC, are taking us down a dangerous road.”

GravatarBut does it really matter if BC04 whip up their base? NO. The problem is that this movie will be seen by a bunch of undecided voters, who may very well view this as tipping the scales in favor of voting Bush. The conservative base is a lock for Bush (except for those few deficit hawks who may lodge a protest vote--Lincoln Chafee et al.). Let them have a mass DVD release or a pay-per-view event--the only ones who will pay for this crap are those who were never going to vote for Kerry in the first place.

I think you need to prove its not reasonably accurate prior to complaining. Seems to me it IS accurate, and damaging, and thats why you don't like it. You like talking about Bush's past. Let's talk about Kerry's.

I think you need to prove its not reasonably accurate prior to complaining. Seems to me it IS accurate, and damaging, and thats why you don't like it. You like talking about Bush's past. Let's talk about Kerry's.

GravatarIf I may make a suggestion when contacting Sinclair's advertisers, aknowledge their rights of speech, but bring in our rights to choose not to subsidize such things with our hard-earned (not-yet-outsourced) dollars.

GravatarTJ,

I don't really think too many people are going to watch this movie if it is aired.

Truth be told, I think that just as many, if not more, reasonable people will see this for what it is... a blatant false attack against Kerry and an abuse of corporate power.

At this point, W has to hope that he can get a huge amount of his supporters out to the polls, and I think that is what he is really after. With his blatant attacks against Kerry, he has more or less given up on trying to lure undecideds.

GravatarSorry, Steve. To my recollection, none of the networks have pre-empted their programming to show any "propaganda" movie criticizing George Bush. Please enlighten me which one you seem to be alluding to when you say "You like talking about Bush's past." I haven't seen any on my network stations.

GravatarIt is incredibly important that Sinclair be defeated on this.

If this sort of blatant and direct hijacking of the public airwaves is allowed, the march of corporate fascism in America will have moved past the creeping phase.

At some point, folks, the pussy-footing will stop and the grab for power will come down upon us in a fell swoop. Hitler put up with elections and debates for a while before slamming THAT door.

Hey, just because your name is easy to spell doesn't mean you get a pass.

It's easy to change on the Web. Then people will wonder wtf Dana is talking about.

I'd prefer they say that about me than you, actually.

Gravatar"Sinclair gets to discredit Kerry with shameful attacks."

Actually, in showing "Stolen Honor", Sinclair lets Kerry discredit himself (yet again, lol) by airing his own attacks against American veterans and Viet Nam POWs (in specific). Cool little irony there, Tsk. Since they've offered Kerry equal time to come on and answer to the POWs whose mental & physical torture he exacerbated, he has no reason to whine about the documentary being aired. Americans are left to wonder why he is so afraid to take up Sinclair's offer of free air time.

Gravatarwhat's up with Wisconsin? The Packers are a disaster and supposedly the Chimp is close in the polls.

I think you've reversed cause and effect. The horrible season the Packers are having is a judgment on them for not voting Kerry 2-1 like they should.

Of course, I say that as a devout Packer hater, who woke up my girlfriend laughing at last night's MNF game

GravatarSome of you may disagree that a pro and anti Kerry film needs to be show on Sinclair stations. But I think the issue is that a broadcasting group needs to follow the FCC's equal time rules. If we say don't show the anti-Kerry film (which I dislike greatly) then we may appear as against the equal time issue as Sinclair. I dislike the venom spewing from the RNC and the groups supporting Bush- but it's part of the game. So below is a sample of the letter I have sent to PepsiCo and a similar one to Chili's Restaurants. Have more to do! Feel free to use it, if you want.

"It has come to my attention that you advertise on the various Sinclair stations. As a consumer of Pepsi products and diner at Pepsi owned
restaurants, I am very concerned about the one-sided presentation of the anti-Kerry documentary that the Sinclair stations must air. I have never participated in any boycott of any products before; however, if your
company fails to support equal airtime (same franework/same time space) for a pro-Kerry film on the Sinclair stations then I feel that I must encourage a boycott of your products in the Fort Worth/Dallas area. Regardless of the owner's political views, the Sinclair stations need to present both sides of the issues to their audiences according to FCC rules."

Gravatarmy contribution from the stock thread below. and yup! you betcha' i have added them to the master list. i also sent my review, and the link to the master list, to about 20 other people around the country.

just doing my little part.

Local Ad Buyers in Pittsburgh:

1. Law Offices of Gail Suhr & Micheal Weiss 412.343.0300

2. Edgar Snyder, Attorney
www.edgarsnyder.com

3. "Shootz" Billiards Bar on Southside

4. Empire Today carpet store 800.588.2300

5. Pittsburgh Used Car Source instant credit hotline 438.2777

6. LiveLinks Singles Network 210.1010

7. HighMark Blue Cross & Blue Shield Health Insurance

(so, cheap carpets, car loan scams, sex phone lines, bars, health insurance and well-known "ambulance-chaser" law firms...i am sensing a theme here!)

National Ad Buys:

1. Movie: Disney's "Incredibles"
2. Movie "The Grudge"

3. Honda Accord LX Sedan
4. Nissan Altima
5. KIA Sedona

6. Subway Sandwich Shops (that one makes me sad!)

the remaining ads, some 20 or so, were ALL for the local WB22 station programming, or for the national WB programs--over and over and OVER again, with one ad for a Fox53 show--they must have gotten the two stations mixed up? who knows. in any case, i was ready to stab out my own eyes with a plastic fork!"

GravatarI got a great idea, Steve. Let's have Sinclair broadcast Farenheit 9/11, too. That's a movie/documentary also, and it criticizes Bush. Assuming they both get prime time preempted broadcasting, that would be perfectly acceptable. Otherwise, to be fair and balanced, anyone who wants to see this anti-Kerry movie should be able to go see it in the theater and pay just like they did for F9/11

by airing his own attacks against American veterans and Viet Nam POWs (in specific).

This is a common misconception, Steve, so I don't fault you for subscribing to it, really. Maybe you just don't know the truth, so all you have is the RNC talking point on this subject.

Here's the truth - google it yourself if you're interested in the truth.

Kerry's testimony in 1971 was based substantially on testimony previously given by over 150 other Vietnam veterans. Kerry simply reported what was stated by those other veterans.

You see, Steve, Kerry was actually supporting those veterans by ensuring that what they saw and what they were subjected to in Vietnam was heard by the people who could do something to change it.

Now go fuck yourself, troll.

GravatarACecchi, is KMWB itself a Sinclair station?
Yes, it is. It is the local WB station here in Minneapolis.

GravatarDon't let Sinclair turn this against us. This production is NOT speech, it is COMMERCE. It's taken me a few years, but i've come to the conclusion that political advertising is not speech. Television stations make buckets of money airing this crap, so they don't have to cover campaigns. The stations then cover their ass by analyzing the ad's truthfulness. And to top it off, all the "coverage" you get of a campaign is the "horse race." I've sworn off all television news (at least the first 15 minutes), but thank GOD for "The Daily Show" and Keith Olbermann's "Countdown."

GravatarSuggestion----

Call the local affiliate and ask for a listing of their local advertisers.

When they refuse, tell them that you wanted the list so you will know who to contact locally so you can tell them about your planned boycott if they continue to advertise on the Sinclair affiliate.

The word will get back, I assure you.

This is war, friends!

GravatarActually, in showing "Stolen Honor", Sinclair lets Kerry discredit himself (yet again, lol) by airing his own attacks against American veterans and Viet Nam POWs (in specific).

_Actually_ I've yet to see any winger propaganda regarding Kerry's speech to Congress that doesn't use some sort of creative editting. Like the Swifties dropping the "they said" from Kerry's reference to the anecdote's of confessed war criminals to make it appear like Kerry personally claims to have witnessed certain events.

Mr. Thompson, can you name one bit of good that came out of staying in Vietnam until 1975 and withdrawing under essentially the same terms as were proposed at the Paris Conference in 19-friggin-68? Or would you prefer we still be fighting in Vietnam today?

Kerry is like the friend who takes keys away from the drunkard. The drunk inevitably gets pissed and belligerent, but upon honest reflection he sees that the friend was right. Kerry was right in 71, and he's today. Those he can't see that are clouded by hubris.

GravatarAmericans are left to wonder why he is so afraid to take up Sinclair's offer of free air time.

These must be the same subset of Americans wondering how Saddam survived flying into the WTC on 9/11. He must've slipped himself into one of those aluminum tubes before the plane hit.

Maybe Kerry has the good sense to know not to walk into an obvious ambush, even if someone "dares" you to? You don't need to be a combat veteran to know that - anyone over the mental age of six has that figured out as well.

These must be the same subset of Americans wondering how Saddam survived flying into the WTC on 9/11. He must've slipped himself into one of those aluminum tubes before the plane hit.

GravatarI just called my local Sinclair Broadcasting Group station and told them I would not stand for the airing of their Ronald Regan documentary.

Now I feel much better!!

Gravatar"I got a great idea, Steve. Let's have Sinclair broadcast Farenheit 9/11, too"

"to be fair and balanced"

Sure, tell Sinclair to run F911 - go fo it!

But the "fair and balanced" & "equal time" memes are completely moot since Sinclair is very publicly urging Kerry to take up it's offer of free air time to show up and rebut, defend, explain his actions, to denounce America's vets yet again, apologize to the vets ala Jane Fonda, to pontificate or whatever. So the only question left is - "Why is Kerry so very, very afraid to take up the offer?".

GravatarSteve Thompson,

I was wondering what kind of brain damage you suffer from. Reason being, I was curious how you thought a half an hour of a person talking was even roughly comparable to a professionally edited hit piece?

As they have said, following this piece of swiftie tripe with Going Upriver (or a version edited for time) would be comparable. Being ambushed by a "reporter" on live TV would not.

Could you tell me why Bush is afraid to speak to crowds unless they sign loyalty oaths, or why he refuses to give press conferences? The man you support is the real coward.

GravatarWhy is Kerry so very, very afraid to take up the offer?".

Why was Bush so very, very afraid to go to Nam?

Why is Bush so very, very afraid to let people into his rallies unless they've signed loyalty oaths?

Why was Bush so very, very afraid that someone partisan would sneak into the second debate and ask him a hard question?

Why was Bush so very, very afraid of appearing alone or under oath before the 9/11 Commission?

Why was Bush so very, very afraid of there even being a 9/11 Commission/

Why was Bush so very, very afraid of telling Congress how much his medicare plan would cost?

And, finally, John Stewart has repeatedly invited Bush to appear on TDSWJS. Bush refuses. Why is Bus so very, very afraid of appearing on TDSWJS?

GravatarFrom a reader at Talking Points Memo:

" I just called the Cincinatti station's sales mgr. He was really concerned when I read him a list of local adverstisers and said I'd be calling their advertising managers to express my displeasure that they choose to advertise on a Sinclair station. He practically begged me not to, saying "this involves people's livelihoods." And then I did call the local advertisers.

So you are correct. Local stations -- SALES MANAGERS and local advertisers AD MANAGERS are the pressure point."

SO: KEEP IT UP!

At local stations, it doesn't take a deluge of calls to make a difference. It takes only a few. This thing may be about to turn a corner, but it's going to have to come from the stations. Call them. Get them on the phone. Talk to them.

"This is a war we did not start, but which we will win!" Use their own words against them. Kingfish

GravatarSteve,
Kerry didn't attack the troops. He attacked their leaders for putting them in a world of shit and for allowing things to get out of hand. All wars result in atrocities, it is the role of the leadership to maintain discipline. The leaders FAILED.

I don't understand the mentality.
Why are you so upset at criticism of the powerful? Why do you contribute to the age old ruse of hiding the guilty bastards behind the people, the flag, the troops, America?

GravatarSo you also are not quite sure of what has Kerry so terrified to take advantage of free air time, int argc - other than your speculation that he has deep-rooted feelings of complete incompentence and of the inability to handle himself? Well, that's a good reason as any. Perhaps he could ask Jackie Chirac to be with him on air - to provide moral support and strength for this, the most difficult "global test" he has ever faced?

Since Kerry can't handle a gift of free air time to provide balance, how could Americans ever trust him to be able to handle "nuisance" terrorists?
Tsk, tsk.

GravatarSteve? Of Atlantic Monthly fame? Could be.

Kerry is the bravest, intelligent, open and friendly candidate America has had since the days of Ike and Kennedy. He's a real man among men. He went into a debate with everyone expecting to write a Kerry obituary. And what did he do? He disembowelled a weak, cuntish and venal President backed by a craven rightwing press corps.

Bloggers will deal with Sinclair on his behalf. it's the least we can do for the Senator.

Gravatari just find it so very odd that otherwise intelligent americans think that something like this 'unmasks' john kerry. unmasks what? that he said that he was at a meeting where others said they personally raped, cut off limbs, blah, blah. where is that a lie? he DID attend a meeting where these things were said.

that talks of atrocities were demoralizing for pow's? that's an unmasking of the truth? no shit it was. maybe instead of getting on the guys/gals that said atrocities happened is to maybe be angry at the people that committed atrocities or the very least the people whose orders led to these atrocities.

i like to think i'm a smart guy. i truly don't know what to make of people that think there needs to be an 'unmasking' of john kerry. most of the moderately informed already get what he did.

why is dissent, asking tough questions when over 50,000 americans are dead, trying to inform a senate panel YOU WERE ASKED TO TESTIFY IN FRONT OF what a group you lead BELIEVES is so horrible that it needs an 'unmasking'?

GravatarMy local Sinclair station was onto talking to the local Sales Manager approach, they refused to connect me.

I'm convinced that the locals are receiving detailed instructions on how to stonewall us from corporate. Maybe Sinclair is tracking Kos and Atrios.

Going directly to the local advertisers probably works more effectively.

GravatarI'm posting this here because I don't have an account for DailyKos..

This summer I worked at the law firm that dealt with Randy Kuhl's divorce and the entire file is still sitting under the desk where I used to work.

I always wanted to look through it but, since I was the messenger.. I was always busy. And besides, it's sort of illegal to look through a client's personal files.

Given the DKos story, I wish I had opened that file.. I knew right where to look to find the charges levelled against him..

Oh well..

GravatarI went directly to a local advertiser, a law firm specializing in medical malpractice, and suggested that their best interests did not lie in supporting a partisan smear that works to support an administartion that has targeted trial lawyers.

The only other advertiser listed was a hair salon, and I'm afraid I didn't have the same sway as an anchorman might. I'm a consumer of a lot fewer hair care products.

GravatarSteve,

Thanks for replying... I wasn't sure if you could read or were programmed to spit out spin points. Astonishingly, you appear to have parsed my words successfully, if only to attempt to misunderstand them in the way most convenient for your (I am generous in calling it this) argument.

Clearly your comprehension could use a little work. Let me draw it out for you.

1. Sinclair airs hit piece produced by Swifties in exchange for gov't defense contracts for a subsidiary
2. Sinclair offers to "interview" Kerry for "balance" afterwards
3. An interview with a hostile reporter (probably your butt-buddy Mark Hyman) lacks the emotional impact of a professionally (I use the term loosely) produced piece of propaganda footage
4. Kerry tells them to fuck off, because that's not balance.
5. Finally, I tell you to fuck off, because you're not worth any more of my time.

i want you to know that your very presence here is a boon to the cause. with every post you write, another five of us finally decide to get in gear and dedicate our weekend to getting out the vote. and with every repetiton of another half-truth talking point spoon fed to you by some halfwit, you motivate another twelve of us to hit rightwing media where it really hurts, in their wallet.

so thank you steve and bless you, you have shown us face of ignorance and challenged us to redouble our efforts to fight the right wing spin machine. bless you.

GravatarSteve,

I'm a vet, and a former member of VVAW. You want to go over Kerry's 1971 testimony again so I can show you what a dupe you're being in support of a cowardly piece of sissified shit that currently, thanks to his name, sits in the White House?

Or would you rather talk about how that sissified piece of shit has run this country into a gutter and is too drunk to drive us out again?

You're right. Plus from now on, I'll be sending the DNC another couple of dollars for every time Stevie posts his shit here.

So, go ahead, Stevie, post away. It'll help run pro-Kerry ads in swing states.

GravatarGreat! Now I can support Sinclair's advertisers. This is no different than the major networks shilling for the democrats for the last 30 years.

GravatarMike,

And thanks to your post we see the average Bush supporter.

Or, should I say, below average?

Vote Bush! He Doesn't Read Either!

GravatarSomething I've noticed lately.

When we organize on a point that's particularly threatening, the trolls come alive. They start making inflamatory comments. It's as though they're trying to change the focus. That tells me they are very afraid of our ability to mobilize.

My suggestion is to ignore the Kerry baiting. Rather than respond to some insult or whatever, simply dig up another Sinclair advertiser and contact their VP of marketing. Tell them you will be adding their company's name on a weblist promoting the boycott of products advertised on Sinclair stations.

Revenge is a dish best served cold.

GravatarYou know people, we may be viewing the awakening of something very new.

Think of the union movement, and the power of organized labor. It's no secret that blogs and the web have had an impact politically, and in the media. What has been less evident is their ability to organize people nationally in a way that influences corporate governance and commerce.

With this Sinclair effort we may be witnessing the beginning of something very new, mass mobilization that impacts commerce. In a system that honors money above all else, we are talking about real power.

Feel the power of what's happening with Sinclair. Don't stop. Making this happen will make us aware of our real power.

GravatarI think the word "collective bargaining" has real meaning here, particularly because the blogosphere makes national mobilization virtually instantaneous.

The implications are sending chills down my spine.

GravatarGood work everyone.

This is the way to attack the media courtesans: shit where they eat. Sinclair's stock is sliding lower, even faster than it had been before, and advertisers are peeling off at a pretty good rate. We can make an example of Sinclair, that being fascist enablers is a good way to lose money in this country.

GravatarAll the blogs and internet activism will do no good unless you hit the streets. Let's get the vote out, Let's make it happen. We have to want it more than them. YOU have to make it happen.

Gravatarjust called Iams. The woman was very aware of the "Sinclair Issue". She said "We want you to know we are only trying to get our product out there and take no position etc"

I said "I understand, but as a consumer I am going to take a position to no longer purchase your lamb and rice formula FROM TARGET(another Sinclair advertiser) until you cease advertising on Sinclair stations."

GravatarKingfish...All the blogs and internet activism will do no good unless you hit the streets.

Yes, you have to vote. But you miss the bigger point. You don't have to hit the streets, that's the good news.

One million people letting it be known that they will not purchase Chevrolet or Iams don't have anything more to do than live up to their word. In most cases, just letting it be known is enough. Iams cannot afford to take the chance they'll lose hundreds of thousands of customers. The live in highly competitive markets, and that's our power.

GravatarMade two phone calls to advertisers in my home town. Both indicated it wasn't the first call they'd received about this and that they would be taking it up with the local Fox affiliate.

One told me the DNC had filed a lawsuit to halt the broadcasts. Does anyone know whether that's true or not?

GravatarI'm using the advertiser link to email support for Sinclair stations, and also to tell them how grateful I am that they send advertising dollars to companies that are willing to air such upstanding, truthful documentaries. Thank you, atrios!
Oh, and I got the link from a "wingnut" blog, so I'm sure after everyone from my side gets through sending their comments along, it will all come out in the wash. Absolutely pointless.

GravatarHere's the caveat. Once the powers that be think this kind of organizational movement is beginning to realize it's own power, they will resist with everything they've got. They have to stop it before it realizes its own power.

GravatarMy point being, Sinclair cannot be seen to be giving in. Expect a prolonged fight.

Sinclair may never give in. If you think about it, they can't. That doesn't represent a defeat for us, however. This effort should awaken us to our real power. That is what we can carry forward, and use with great effect.

GravatarHi all,

I've been emailing and emailing various advertisers, especially in the city I plan to move to (Asheville, NC).

I have gotten back many emails with the wonderful words, "User Unknown". I have checked on some websites and the email address is correct. Do you think these are bouncing because of the amount of emails they are receiving, or don't they like me? I'm all for writing and calling, but I sure do hate it when all that work is going nowhere except back to my computer.

GravatarFYI, I worked in syndication for years. Only Bill Butler of Sinclair makes programming/marketing decisions. The Sinclair affiliates do not make decisions.

GravatarBTW, you can also pressure syndicators, e.g., the suppliers of Sinclairs programming. These include Universal, King World, and many others.

This is old news, Kngfish; except that the issue is the slimy repulsive unAmericanness of the Sinclair, it is a different issue. McCain has been silent on this episode, which is MUCH MORE EXTREME.

GravatarBut the "fair and balanced" & "equal time" memes are completely moot since Sinclair is very publicly urging Kerry to take up it's offer of free air time...

LOL. You're free to appear after a showing of my documentary 'Steve Thompson, Goat-Fucker And Child Abuser' to refute the charges. Fair and balanced, no?

GravatarPoor widdle Nazi Haloscan troll --
he's never heard of the "br"

Speaking of Bush/Sinclair/Contago

Google for "Contango Oil", "Jay

to learn about the role of Contango
employees in the death of students
aboard a Japanese fishing boat

Or just go to Big Oil at the Controls:

GravatarVictoria's Secret just responded to my email about their advertising on Sinclair channels by saying that they do not necessarily endorse the views of any program they advertise on.

hm, not much commitment there, is there.

GravatarI commented more fully under the 'Follow the Money' thread, but check out:

http://cnnfn.investor.reuters.co...& docid=20582667

There is some reason to think that this might be a cynical drum up controversial business (granted, in a massively irresponsible fascist way) ploy.

Sinclair IS NOT doing well. If you know anyone holding their stock they have multiple good reasons to sell as fast as they can.

GravatarIn case you don't believe the local "hit 'em where it hurts" strategy can work, I just had a successful exchange with a local advertiser:

"I am truly sorry that Sinclair Broadcasting Group has done this. I strive to excel in all that I do and hope that you will understand my shock when I learned that Sinclair has done this. I had no idea when I chose to advertise with the local NBC 40 that they would do this. I advertise in several ways with numerous companies, none of which struck me in a way to cause alarm. In light of this information, I will not be advertising with Sinclair any more. I called my advertising agent earlier this evening and they will be pulling my advertising effective immediately. To sum this up, I hope that you and your family will not hold the fact that I advertise so that I may obtain business to make a living in this world, something that I know you can understand. I keep politics out of my business and try to focus on providing the best quality real estate service in Tallahassee."
