Atrios, could you start a new thread entitled "Debate Advice for Kerry" or something to that effect? I think there are a lot of good ideas floating around this site and it would be great to see everyone brainstorm together.
We could then cull some of the better ideas from this thread and send them off to Kerry's website; hopefully it isn't too late to pass along a few tips to the campaign.
As my first offering on the topic, I would encourage Kerry to compare Bush's criticism of Kerry as a tax and spend liberal to H.W. Bush's criticism of Clinton on the same topic. We all know how that turned out. 8 years of a booming economy, accomplished without significant shifts in tax burdens. And it can happen again.

Hey...now we have proof that they are cheating. Go to www.klas-tv.com and read Las Vegas CBS 8 breaking news story. It is about a company called America Votes. They are listed on Career builder as being funded by the RNC and they have at least two employees who have come out against them throwing away ANY registration forms where the person checked Democrat. The news station checked with the state officials to see if these alleged registered voters had been cheated and at this point they have found at least 300 people who say they registered dem. and now they are not registered to vote. I am asking that we all start calling and emailing our local stations and newspapers to get this story on.

As mentioned above, here's the America Votes story. My God, this is FAR worse than anything we've uncovered so far, because as the article on the KLAS website points out, the destruction of Democratic voter registrations is FUNDED BY THE REPUBLICAN PARTY! Atrios... you should make a splash of this, a.s.a.p!!
George Knapp, Investigative Reporter
Voter Registrations Possibly Trashed
(Oct. 12) -- Employees of a private voter registration company allege that hundreds, perhaps thousands of voters who may think they are registered will be rudely surprised on election day. The company claims hundreds of registration forms were thrown in the trash.
Anyone who has recently registered or re-registered to vote outside a mall or grocery store or even government building may be affected.
The I-Team has obtained information about an alleged widespread pattern of potential registration fraud aimed at democrats. Thee focus of the story is a private registration company called Voters Outreach of America, AKA America Votes.
The out-of-state firm has been in Las Vegas for the past few months, registering voters. It employed up to 300 part-time workers and collected hundreds of registrations per day, but former employees of the company say that Voters Outreach of America only wanted Republican registrations.
Two former workers say they personally witnessed company supervisors rip up and trash registration forms signed by Democrats.
"We caught her taking Democrats out of my pile, handed them to her assistant and he ripped them up right in front of us. I grabbed some of them out of the garbage and she tells her assisatnt to get those from me," said Eric Russell, former Voters Outreach employee.
Eric Russell managed to retrieve a pile of shredded paperwork including signed voter registration forms, all from Democrats. We took them to the Clark County Election Department and confirmed that they had not, in fact, been filed with the county as required by law.
So the people on those forms who think they will be able to vote on Election Day are sadly mistaken. We attempted to speak to Voters Outreach but found that its office has been rented out to someone else.
The landlord says Voters Outreach was evicted for non-payment of rent. Another source said the company has now moved on to Oregon where it is once again registering voters. It's unknown how many registrations may have been tossed out, but another ex-employee told Eyewitness News she had the same suspicions when she worked there.
It's going to take a while to sort all of this out, but the immediate concern for voters is to make sure you really are registered.
Call the Clark County Election Department at 455-VOTE or click here to see if you are registered.
The company has been largely, if not entirely funded, by the Republican National Committee. Similar complaints have been received in Reno where the registrar has asked the FBI to investigate.

I noticed that, too. And these days to get into a Bush event not only do you have to be a registered republican but you also have to write an essay about why the Chimp should be re-selected. So the only people they get are those who are wildly enthusiastic for the man, no wonder he's treated "like a rock star".
And don't think for a minute that the WaPo's use of the word "lurch" to describe Kerry was innocent. That's Rush's nickname for him.

Use Janklow, but use him carefully. He might just know where the bodies are buried. Just be careful that they are real bodies, not Roves plants.
If we can nail the RNC hard on this one, it could dramatically change the course of the election. They have been subverting our democracy, and we have to stop them.
If Bush wins andthis comes out afterward, this will get buried. Ashcroft will be assigned to investigate, a few low level folks involved who really don't know the whole story will be convicted, and the RNC will issue a statement about how shocked they are...and business will continue as usual.
Use every tool at our disposal. And Janklow is certainly a tool. (In both the useful and pejorative senses of the word tool, obviously.)

One more comment before I get back to work.
If you talk to a wingnut and really back them into a corner, they all say, "but all politicians are crooks."
This is a total crock. It gives you carte-blanche to do whateverthefuck you want. And it is not true. Corruption is not acceptable. And it is not commonplace.
It is really important to attack the myth that it is ok because others are doing it. Others are not doing it.

Hi, hardly new or unexpected, but a reporter friend says he's picking up very strong hints that the "October Surprise" will be an allegedly major series of arrests of alleged terrorist leaders.
Not Osama, but a bunch of others. Be prepared. The seizing of indymedia's servers in Europe could be just the beginning. Also hearing elsewhere that the US govt. is planting viruses and spyware on Islamic sites, then tracing everything a site visitor does. Creepy, just in time for Ramadan.
We love you muslims!

Hey, demvet22, what zinger did Edwards send to Bush last night? I missed it...
Of course it's not a mistake, just compare the headlines from all major media outlets and it's obvious they're doing their darndest to help BC04. Minor example: Yesterday ALL FRIGGING DAY on cnn.com, we had these two parallel headlines: "Bush Slams Kerry on Health Care" versus "Edwards Mocks Bush." There are so many things wrong with mainstream media, it's too depressing to even begin.

Yesterday a FL county ran a pretest of its DIEBOLD voting system. The test was cancelled as the server malfunctioned.
The story is the hurricanes caused electric outages which made the server overheat.
I haven't figured out why a server would be left on when not being used.

I emailed about 40 newspapers this morning with Atrios' first mention of the voter mess. I even included someone else's list of names, emails, cellphones of the local organizations involved in this. You know, to give all those busy reporters a helping hand.
By the way, did anyone send the Washpost the link to the story about having to write essays to get into a Bush event? And has anyone noticed the latest thing with the Bush crowds? Bush mentions Kerry and pauses, the audiences hoot derisively. It seems to be getting louder and nastier. Bizarre.

I read all over the internet last night about a private voter registration company in Nevada tearing up Dem registrations, but sending the Repubs in...I thought wow, what a huge story and sat down to watch Jeff Greenfield's report from Nevada for Anderson Cooper on CNN ready to hear his assesment of the situation. Instead I got that both candidates are working really hard to win it. THEN! And I'm sorry, I know this is against our beloved Oddball Keith, but I read a few articles on the web pointing out that Bush is against his church's stance on many important issues like gun control and the death penalty, but the media never calls him on them...So last night, what's the number 4 story on Countdown? Catholic bishops telling people it is a sin to vote for Kerry. Only mention of Bush? That he went to talk to the Pope about getting his help to be reelected...No discussion of whether that's a little too over the boundaries of church and state. Fuck. Increasingly I am feeling more and more depressed about the whole thing.

And don't think for a minute that the WaPo's use of the word "lurch" to describe Kerry was innocent. That's Rush's nickname for him.
Absolutely not innocent. It was the headline on the Post's homepage, from which most folks would link to the article, but not the headline of the article proper, or the headline on the print edition.
Not that the print headline: "Lifelong Collector of Data can Bog Down his Staffs," is much better... but the "Lurch" is definitely a flag for the dittoheads (if not a subliminable massage).
So this is what we've come to... a candidate's willingness and capacity to deeply engage with the complexities of policy issues is now a liability... truly sad.

Let us not forget that Janklow is the scumbag who ran a stop sign at 70mph and killed a firefighter riding on his motorcycle. He then tried to lie his way out of responsibility for this criminally negligent act. He served only 100 days in a low-security facility. Meanwhile, the firefighter is still dead. I don't consider Janklow a credible source for ANYTHING, and would hesitate to use anything he said to try to make noise about the election.

Yesterday a FL county ran a pretest of its DIEBOLD voting system. The test was cancelled as the server malfunctioned.
The story is the hurricanes caused electric outages which made the server overheat.
I haven't figured out why a server would be left on when not being used.
I work with all kinds of servers, from the tiny to the extra large. Servers are always kept on, so that is no shock. What IS a shock is that it would be kept on in a data center that isn't keeping cool. The first thing that a sysadmin does when a data center loses A/C (and it happens alot, sadly) is shut off servers to keep them from overheating.
I think Florida is so far in the bag, with Diebold and Jeb and Kathryn Harris, that we have to focus on how Kerry can win without Florida.

What I want to know is what recourse these voters who have had their registration forms destroyed have?
In texas, you have to be deputized to take registrations, and you have to give voters a receipt. And if they show up with a receipt at the polls and they're not on the voter rolls, they HAVE to let you vote.
Also, as a deputy, I'm required to take registrations from EVERYONE, not just people I think will vote for Kerry.
I want to see these fuckers do jail time.

Atrios,
Could you start a new thread entitled "Debate Advice for Kerry" or something to that effect?
NYT doesn't have anything like this story up...it does feature a story on the politcs page about how THK can talk knowledgably about "classic French sauces."
I shit you not.
When we have VOTER FRAUD, when we operatives of one of our major political parties subverting our democracy, the times gives us "classic French sauces."
I know, I shouldn't be shocked, I should understand that is just the way the world is right now across our SCLM, but every time I think I've built some decent callouses to this sort of thing, they come along with a belt sander.
No link included, feel free to go visit the NYT politics page on your own if you can stomach it.

On topic of debate lines. I humbly offer this to Senator Kerry:
Last week I was registering voters and a man saw my Veteran for Kerry button and asked if I was going to vote for the man and then vote against him. I laughed and said if he had 30 seconds I could explain that vote and, intrigued, he said OK.
I said, "When I give my daughter the keys to the car, I don't expect her to drive it up a tree."
I offer it up freely, to whomever wants it.

SD voter suppresion is just a tip of the iceberg.
FL - Wash post front page top headline story on black voter suppression.
OR - State Atty General and SecSTate announced investigation on voter registration fraud. They have a video tape of a worker tearing up dem registration papers and sworn testimony of workers they were told to throw away Dem voter registration forms (illegal).
Nevada - local papers and TV on destroying dem voter reg papers. Speaker of the house (Dem) and other Dem leaders taking up the issue.
PA and WV also reporting similar activities. They are tied to one Nathan Sproul, an AZ repub operative and dirty trickster. His firm hires local people to pass out voter reg forms in different states and registers REpubs only by throwing out Dem registrations (illegal, of course).
This is breaking out in the last couple of days. DKOS diarists are digging this up and connecting the dots from different states. Will be a huge story when the networks and big papers get on it. Even if national papers don't, the state papers and TV in the afffected states are getting into it. Local activists working with
media.
This can turn Nevada to blue and OR has already turned blue.
Similar reports from WI and MN.

As for debate advice...
I don't see Kerry using a devastating one-liner on the Bushboy. Sure, he'll prick him by mentioning his father, turning his back on him, and being devastatingly honest about how badly Bush has failed.
But I think he's above using a soundbite like "Where's the beef?", "There you go again." or even "You're no Jack Kennedy."

steve, I only say that, because Janklow, a known speed demon who abused his office more than once, got off so lightly after killing a man.
More telling, he seems to have escaped night and day cries of outrage by members of the opposition. I doubt that a dem would have received the same treatment.

More telling, he seems to have escaped night and day cries of outrage by members of the opposition. I doubt that a dem would have received the same treatment.

Long as we're coaching Kerry:
Honor of the Office -
How much honor is brought to the White House by contiuning to protect the person who revealed Plame as a CIA agent?
Religious allusions -
Jesus: Abundant Life
Bush: Abundant Lies
Bush is an Idolator: Putting the protection of capital ahead of compassion for the poor & elderly.
Bonus points -

Hey...now we have proof that they are cheating. Go to www.klas-tv.com and read Las Vegas CBS 8 breaking news story. It is about a company called America Votes.
unfortunately, this is not true. america votes is a non-partisan voter registration firm. the firm in question is actually a group called sproul and associates, headed by the former chief of the arizona republican party, former advisor to john kyl, former head of the arizona christian coalition, nathan sproul. sproul and associates has been misreprestenting themselves as america votes in order to:
1. hire employees through internet jobs sites such as careerbuilder.com or temp agencies such as kelly services
2. gain access to locations where they can solicit new registrants, such as libraries, malls, etc.
america votes IS NOT responsible for this voter fraud. it is the motherfucking GOP. those fucking slimy assholes.

2. Follow-up "even worse" "abuses" [torture]: swept under rug.
3. Plame indictments: put off until after the election, when they can be dropped altogether.
4. Filegate: huh? What's that?
5. Yellowcake memo fraud: What? We're having dessert?
These things all disappeared. But thanks to Sinclair, Kerry-as-traitor is not only fresh, but about to be rammed down our throats as "news."
At the very least, let me hear about the fraud behind the medical prescription bill tonight. The one group that seems to take action when provoked is the old folks lobby.

Holden,
I agree about the zingers. Not necessary but perhaps useful - especially due to the fact that they are easy for the simpleton press to pick up and run with.
I don't think Kerry should be "above" using a zinger if it is accurate and serves to successfully crystalize and distill a particular broader point that he is trying to make.
Regardless - the idea is that the new thread would be a forum to offer any advice at all, whether in terms of slogans or in terms of strategy.

[Voter Fraud Stories are] breaking out in the last couple of days. DKOS diarists are digging this up and connecting the dots from different states. Will be a huge story when the networks and big papers get on it. Even if national papers don't, the state papers and TV in the afffected states are getting into it. Local activists working with

Sad to say that the Reno Gazette Journal said they won't run a story unless the AP does it.

OT but what the fuck is up with Wapo? Yesterday it was a fawning piece about how bush is treated like a rock star on the trail and that Kerry's audiences are bored stiff. Today, they describe his "style" as lurching and chaotic. Something tells me they won't be pursuing any similiarly critical "analysis" of bush. - Demvet22
And Matt Bai wonders why Kerry is so guarded with and "inaccessible" to (now really - how accessible is Bush?) reporters?
And speaking of that article - are Republicans as stupid as they sound?
Let's review the facts:
Kerry, pre-9/11, realized that terrorism and terrorists organizations, financed by the idle rich and not serving directly rogue states, was an emerging threat and must be dealt with immediately.
BushCO, after we were attacked by a stateless cartel of terrorsts on 9/11 (Afghanistan was sheltering them to be sure, but Al Qaeda was not a client organization of Afghanistan), still sees terrorism as a tool of rogue states and terrorists as some sort of rogue state army.
And they say that Kerry is wrong on how to deal with terrorism and make fun of his statement that he doesn't see much having changed with 9/11 -- when Kerry understood the threat of terrorism before 9/11 and BushCO still doesn't get it?
The tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorist in me says the real reason BushCO is so afraid of Kerry and willfully misunderstands the terrorist threat is that by shutting off the financing of terrorism, Kerry's plans would also shut down money laundering tools used by BushCO.
At the very least, considering that terrorists, by definition, want to terrorize us, doesn't viewing 9/11 as such a paradigm shifting event grant the terrorists a victory?
I mean isn't Kerry's infamous "nuissance" quote, when translated from 'New England Brahmanese' into 'New York Old Money' "the only thing we have to fear, is fear itself"? To me, getting to the point where we are no longer terrorized by terrorism is precisely the point at which we can declare victory in the war on terror!
If people are so stupid as to fall for BushCO's "everything is different after 9/11" line of Santorum, perhaps they deserve to live in a once great country being sucked down the drain by the military industrial complex. But they should know that when our great Republic collapses, it is their fault!

there's also a story in the portland state university Daily Vanguard (in oregon) about petitioners solciting petition signiatures from PSU students, then re-registering them as republicans. this is not nearly as bad in the general election as it would be in the primary, but it's still sleazy and underhanded, which is to say it is explicitly republican.

Somewhere on earth, two panda bears are fucking and all you guys care about is fraudulent voter registration.
I'm not surprised that the crap in Las Vegas is linked to the Christian Coalition. Those bastards will lie, steal, cheat, bear false witness and a host of other sins if it means they gain more power.
Why I Am Not A Christian, by Bertrand Russell. Russell delivered a lecture on March 6, 1927 to the National Secular Society on this topic, and the following quote speaks to what you're saying and is especially prescient for today's world:
Conquer the world by intelligence and not merely by being slavishly subdued by the terror that comes from it.

grappler. I am an OK democrat. No, we are not all like that. But, apparently you have to pose as a republican to get elected. Carson's latest ad has his wife saying "they called my husband evil, then a liberal. I don't know which one is worse." Oh really, it is better to be evil than a liberal? I actually knocked doors for Carson before I realized what a miserable excuse for a democrat he is. He acts like he has to apologize for being to the right of pat buchanan. Oklahoma used to be one of the most progressive states in the union. We are the people who brought you Will Rogers, Woody Guthrie, and, of course, me.
We will rise again.

I haven't figured out why a server would be left on when not being used.
Anonymous
Servers are designed to be left on almost all the time. They handle functions like remote access, E-mail, data storage, and data backup (usually scheduled to auto-execute in the wee hours of the morning when traffic is less). We can post our rambling HaloScan comments at 2:30 in the morning because their servers are on.

unfortunately, sproul and associates has been operating in a number of states, so it is not limited to las vegas. there are reports of similar problems up in reno, nevada. it's also happening in missouri, west virginia, pennsylvania and oregon. it may be occuring in other states as well. these fuckers have no integrity. there is no end to their depravity. there is no floor they will not sink beneath. they are amoral, and, quite offensively, they adopt a moralist posture. they deserve the worst punishment karma can inflict.

Kerry- "Who's running? I'm here aren't I."

An even better Kerry response: "Bush likes to say you can't hide, but he does just that on the campaign trail. To attend one of his events, you have to promise to vote for him and submit an essay about why he should be re-elected. Never in American history has a candidate for President gone to such lengths to shelter himself from people who don't completely agree with everything he's done. We might as well call him 'Bubble Boy.'"

what "liberal media"? where the hell are the reporters and journalists these days? In the pockets of the wealthy. Forget media...I want some f-ing news!!!! I would also like to throw this out. It is from a Now with Bill Moyers episode back in August or July. Demvet,
I'm sorry for the sad state of affairs in OK, but I live in NC so we can't exactly throw stones. It's marginally better, what with people like Edwards and our rep, David Price, but we're still the state that brought you Jesse Helms, Liddy Dole, and the stupid fucking GOP redneck peckerwood asshole who said women who are raped can't get pregnant because "their juices don't flow."

I agree with comment above re Florida probably lost, making Ohio even more important, particularly if you assume PA is in Kerry's grasp. EVERYONE who isn't in a swing state should try to get to one for the election. Go to America Coming Together. They have a sign-up for volunteers to go into Ohio, etc., and get out the vote. This is definitely worth doing.

for what it's worth, my take is that Rethugs can justify cheating because this is a war. It's a war for the hearts and soul of America, or in their warped heads, for the heart and soul of what they believe America has to be. And when you're at war, there are different rules. It's okay to kill, lie, cheat, sneak, and steal if the cause is justified. I don't agree with them, but from some recent conversations I've had with coworkers and family, I think that attitude is commonplace. I'm not saying they are all willing to do it, but that they can turn a blind eye to it.

I e-mailed all the advertisers on Sinclair's list, who had e-mail addresses in their websites. I heard back this morning from Sky Blue. They said they are proud sponsors of the debate tonight. I had to write back and say thankyou, but could we also get a phone call from you putting preasure on sinclair to drop the movie.
On another subject, I found this item on the Hoffmania blog site. It is just wonderful, and so encouraging for all of us.
Germany in rethink on Iraq force deployment
Germany might deploy troops in Iraq if conditions there change, Peter Struck, the German defence minister, indicated on Tuesday in a gesture that appears to provide backing for John Kerry, the US Democratic presidential challenger.

Thieves hit Democratic Party offices; computers containing sensitive data removed
>Thieves shattered a side window overnight at Lucas County Democratic headquarters in Toledo, stealing computers with sensitive campaign information and triggering concern of the local party's ability to deliver crucial votes on Nov. 2.
>Among the data on the stolen computer of the party's office manager were: e-mails discussing campaign strategy, candidates' schedules, financial information, and phone numbers of party members, candidates, donors, and volunteers
Sound familiar?
There's more
>Also taken were computers belonging to Lucas County Commissioner Tina Skeldon Wozniak and to a Texas attorney working with the Kerry/Edwards presidential campaign to ensure election security.
snip
>At Democratic headquarters, officials stopped short of publicly blaming partisan politics, but at the same time, they all but ruled out run-of-the-mill criminals.
>Two other computers, holding less sensitive information, were untouched, as were a petty cash box that usually holds $80 to $100, televisions, portable radios, and other electronics. Moreover, other offices inside the building, 1817 Madison Ave., were not entered. Files, papers, and pamphlets remained in neat piles, and campaign signs leaned, apparently undisturbed, against a wall.
>"They knew what they wanted," Mr. Chabler said, calling the incident a 'third-rate burglary,' " a not-so-subtle reference to the break-in at National Democratic Committee offices in 1972 that began the Watergate scandal that eventually led to the President Nixon's resignation.

The Blockbuster store in Cedar Park, TX (one of our lovely suburbs in the Austin area), is keeping their copies of F 9/11 behind the counter as if it were porn.
Actually, that might be a good sign. My blockbuster puts movies behind the counter that are so popular they want to regulate the rental of it.
That DVD will bring in some major numbers, I bet. I bought one for a conservative friend of mine, cuz he said he'd watch it if it were free.

So last night, what's the number 4 story on Countdown? Catholic bishops telling people it is a sin to vote for Kerry... Fuck. Increasingly I am feeling more and more depressed about the whole thing.
Rock.
Don't be! You are experiencing the earliest days of the newest phase of the Information Age! When a buncha dumbass, yawning, snortin' bloggers have better and faster access to more useful information, than do national news orgs.
So what do we do? We e-mail the fuck out of those news orgs RELENTLESSLY, every time there's an urgent story like this one, that Joe and Jane need to hear. I think you'll find that only half of them are water carriers for the the Rethugs; the rest just need a heads-up, and someone who's willing to do their initial legwork for them.
Start with Keith (uh, rots-o-ruck with Wolf and Daryn and co!).

This is what I was trying to remember all morning - comes from trawling in some very distant seas:
Oregon Librarian Thwarts Voter-Registration Fraud
A librarian in Medford, Oregon, uncovered in September the real identity of a group claiming to be part of a nonpartisan, nationwide voter-registration organization called America Votes. The group had called and sent letters to several libraries in Oregon, including Multnomah County, West Slope, and Corvallis-Benton County.
Meghan O’Flaherty, library manager of the Jackson County Headquarters Library, checked into a letter from a group called Sproul & Associates asking to set up a voter-registration booth in the library. The letter began: “Our firm has been contracted to help coordinate a national non-partisan voter registration drive, America Votes! in several states across the nation.” Checking the Internet, O’Flaherty found that Sproul & Associates is a political consulting firm headed by former Arizona State Republican Party Executive Director Nathan Sproul.
An employee at Sproul & Associates said the group’s drive is called Project America Votes and admitted to knowing about the similar names. Claiming an innocent mistake, Sproul said in the September 21 Medford Mail Tribune, “We were not trying to copy their name. All we were trying to do was register people to vote. You telling me that they even exist was really the first time I’d heard it.”
O’Flaherty contacted Kevin Looper, the state organizing director for America Votes, who told her that Sproul & Associates had absolutely nothing to do with his organization. “You’ll have to forgive me for not finding it credible that they would not have heard of a group that is one of the largest in the country.” He also said that America Votes is “in the process of pursuing all of our legal options to pursue [an order to] cease and desist.”
Looper credits O’Flaherty’s and other Oregon librarians’ quick thinking in the matter: “If it wasn’t for their initiative on it, I would not have known about it.”

"Schaefer Faults AIDS Patients
Official Defends Proposed Registry"
(WaPo)
Maryland Comptroller William Donald Schaefer (D) yesterday called people with AIDS "a danger" and said those suffering from the disease "brought it on themselves."
The 82-year-old former governor, well known for tossing out incendiary remarks, offered his candid views about AIDS after he was asked during an interview to explain comments he made during a public meeting last week. At the meeting, Schaefer asked the state's AIDS administrator why she doesn't establish a public registry to list the names of Maryland residents who have tested positive for the HIV virus...

Holden,
The Blockbuster store in my town only has 6 copies of F9/11 but 12 copies of Fahrenhype 9/11 the anti F9/11 cut up piece. I should have asked them what was up with that but I didn't. Blockbuster also didn't carry Scorsese's "The Last Temptation of Christ" either.

There must be something about former R governors:
Elmer L. Andersen: 'Why this Republican ex-governor will be voting for Kerry'
Date: Wednesday, October 13 10:27:29 EDT
Topic: Election 2004
By Elmer L. Andersen, Minneapolis Star Tribune
Throughout my tenure and beyond as the 30th governor of this state, I have been steadfastly aligned -- and until recently, proudly so -- with the Minnesota Republican Party.
It dismays me, therefore, to have to publicly disagree with the national Republican agenda and the national Republican candidate but, this year, I must.
The two "Say No to Bush" signs in my yard say it all.

FWIW, I posted on the Nevada Voter Reg thread last night about another story of Republican voter fraud. I finally found it, happened in South Dakota, here's a LINK
Ok, so you've got two Republican Voter Fraud stories in one day, today you have Janklow, so when is someone from mainstream media going to start looking into this seriously?

OT: More from the "Lurching" article by Dale Russakoff & Jim VandeHei
.......
Kerry's mixed record as a manager is significant because, if elected, he would be the first president since John F. Kennedy to arrive at the White House from the Senate, with no major executive experience. Four of the past five presidents were governors, with long records of calling the shots. In Kerry's case, the strongest clues to how he would manage come from recurring themes in the way he has tackled being a prosecutor, a lieutenant governor, a senator and now a presidential candidate.
.....
Gee, 20 years of Senate politics experience accounts for nothing, I guess. Bush had one term as Texas governor and is run by his father's buddies. Clinton was beaten on regularly by the press for "not understanding politics inside the Beltway".
Who are the two turds that wrote the article? Does anyone have bios for them?

anyone read Myth of the Liberal Media-A. Huffington. explains a lot as to why we are not hearing about any of these MAJOR stories. I guess the GOP learned one thing after Nixon...control the media. I still believe that the truth will come out, but sometimes that belief starts to dim. This president and his entire administration should have been taken out of office so long ago. I wonder if the general puppets...I mean public will ever know what these jerks have done to their country.

One of the front men for the de-registration in Las Vegas had the audacity I would've said balls but new and improved Repubes have the screw on type, to appear grinning in the area of town not shown on the Las Vegas propaganda shows (CSI Casino Dr Vegas) a lower income minority area Black and Latino that the rat rapers know is heavily Democratic. There at the new city government complex on the corner of Carey and Martin L. King beneath a badly done statue of Dr. King the egotist smirked and gurgled how his outfit was just keeping the voter rolls legit. Yeech. Las Vegas is a small town on steroids with a redlight district that calls the shots. Most Dems and Repubes politicians check in with the casino bosses to see if any of their legislation will hurt their bottomline or enhance it. So that mix of corruption, political complaisance and stupidity allows shit like this to happen on a regular basis with little more than winks and handslaps if you're in the right group banishment if it's just too damn blatant.

Incidentally, it was Sproul's company that was working so hard to obtain questioned signatures for Nader for the AZ ballot - and it was his efforts that caused that petition to be thrown out. Not only is he a little whirl of energy, he's also, unquestionably, damned incompetent.

Last night on PBS Frontline showed us that Bush doesn't have the capacity to care about anyone in this country. He doesn't even give a crap about his rightwing christian base. All he has to do is pretend to be born again and he can count on them for votes.
It has become obvious to all of us that Bushco is not really a part of a political party, but a vicious criminal enterprise. They bring nothing to the table but manipulation, strong arm tactics, and lies.

IIRC at some point in the 90s, Viacom (owner of CBS) bought Blockbuster, but Blockbuster was losing money so I believe they either sold it two or three years ago or else spun it off into a separate company because it was dragging down the Viacom bottom line. I don't know what the relationship of Blockbuster and Viacom is at the moment.

Last night on PBS Frontline showed us that Bush doesn't have the capacity to care about anyone in this country. ...

I caught the last ~20 minutes of it, and was really sorry I'd missed the first 40.
By the way, that unvarnished gin blossom on Bush's nose is spectacular.

Holy Shit... this guy is an old man, but he needs to leave office immediately...
Schaefer is a Baltimore and Maryland institution. He's never been the most diplomatic person, and I doubt he'll start to change at 82.
Not apologizing for his statement, just trying to possibly shed some light on why he'll be in office in MD until he dies.

What a devastating retort that would be, if not for the fact that there are numerous other confirmations of this claim.
Didn't pass your purity test, did Janklow? I'm afraid that many Republicans commit the sin of considering Democrats human, and some even *gasp* friends. Care to talk some shit about John McCain, for example?
As an aside, it takes a special kind of asshole to make us defend Al Sharpton around here, given that repub operative Roger Stone financed his campaign. But you are special, just like your mommy said.

Smarty,
Willy Don Schaefer has been a nutjob for as long as I've lived in Maryland. When he was Governor the common wisdom was that he still wanted to be Mayor of Baltimore.
A few months ago after our Repub governor came out with a multiculturism is crap statement, Schaefer piped in with a complaint that the counter person at his McDonalds didn't speak english and that the food bad had words in every language but english on it.

"You are experiencing the earliest days of the newest phase of the Information Age! When a buncha dumbass, yawning, snortin' bloggers have better and faster access to more useful information, than do national news orgs.
" -Champlain 12:01 p.m.
So true, my husband and I were watching the news last night, and most of it was old news to me. My husband hadn't heard anything about most of it, even though he spends a great deal of time on the off-topic board, much of it politics, of a sports website. Naturally, I had to fill him in since the cable TV news was weak at best.
Matthews mentioned the Sinclair thing on Hardball last night, and that organizers on the internet have gotten some results in having Sinclair's sponsors drop.
Enjoy the freedom - I doubt it lasts if Blinky the Chimp is re-elected - his gang will find someway to shut down or seriously restrict the blogs.

I'm really looking forward to the day when the evil Democrats (that means all of them - they are always wrong and the Republicans are always right - just like Jesus!) there is no Democratic Party and I can live in a one-party paradise like Stalin's USSR, Hitler's Germany, or Saddam's Iraq. I feel no shame in my demonization of my fellow countrymen because they are sub-human vermin who have been oppressing us, even though we control everything. Everything that goes wrong is their fault, even though they don't control anything. It's obvious that their mere presence is corrupting the country and making God mad at us. What we need is a final solution....

I wonder if Nathan Sproul is related to Dennis Sproul, the Arizona State quaterback in the glory days of Sun Devil football?
or if he's a decendent of the character in cormac mccarthy's novel, blood meridian, who is simply known as 'sproul' and is ditched by the main character when their possee is ambushed by indians and sproul is shot in the arm by an arrow, can't get treatment for it since it's in the middle of the desert, and is ditched because the rotting arm smells so horrendous.

for what it's worth, my take is that Rethugs can justify cheating because this is a war. I'm not saying they are all willing to do it, but that they can turn a blind eye to it.

i had a lovely great-aunt who said back during the vietnam war, "it's better for those little vietnamese babies to be burned with napalm than to be burned in hell for all eternity for being communists."
all i can say is...corny as it may sound...these are the moments when we need to remember the examples of our foremothers and fathers who loved liberty so much they were willing to give their lives for it.
and i include people like crazy horse, cinque, harriet tubman, and joe hill in that list, along with the usual suspects like patrick henry et al.
the authors of the constitution weren't liberals - they were radicals!
it doesn't end nov. 2 - it begins.

What, it is domestic policy. OBL is the one who attacked NYC on Sept. 11, 2001. That's domestic. The Aug. 6 PDB was entitled bin Laden determined to attack IN the US.

The problem with the national media taking up these stories is that in the interest of Fairness, they would have to address cases of Democratic vote fraud, which don't exist. So they can't cover it.

"When I give my daughter the keys to the car, I don't expect her to drive it up a tree."
A great zinger. A two-word change would give it even deeper meaning:
When I trust my daughter with the keys to the car, I don't expect her to drive it up a tree.
Kerry should use it.

Registrations being destroyed? Voter fraud by the GOP? Supression efforts?
Wow, what a surprise!
Having worked for the GOP in the past (I have no desire to be anything other than a Democrat and a patriot now), I could say I told you so (about 5 to 7 days ago)...
I was waiting for this. Wonder how many registrations have "disappeared" in Ohio?
