You aren't going to like this, or maybe even believe it, but please listen:
This campaign is in trouble, almost soley because of the corruption and complacency in the media. Kerry has been kicking Bush's ass, but it is going under-represented.
I am just one screaming voice in a sea of screaming voices, but I implore anyone who will listen to hammer home this point anywhere and everywhere they can:
The populist message that Bush and his record (not his party, even if it's true - that will alienate swing voters) stands for the rich and the privledged (the "anger meme" is still good, too). We are in a situation in which only a trickle of our message is going to get through, so it VERY, VERY important that we speak in the sound bites the media loves. The message also needs to be relevant and populist. HAMMER this MF'er and get focused like a laser beam.......

Kerry is best. He is my choice, and tonite he was repeating lines which were old when spoken in the first debate.
Bush looked and acted like he'd just gotten acting lessons, and admited as much when talking about his wife's advice.
He stood up straight. He smiled. Wish that was all there was to being President.
Time for a fresh attack from Kerry and his handlers need to work fresh angles.

Noticed two cool things while out poll-hopping. One was on CBS where they reported Bill O'Reilly was being sued for sexual harassment. That man is a disgrace to the Irish everywhere. The other was on the WaPo site, where the photo shows Kerry literally dwarfing Bush. Now I'm a short guy, but a picture like that has got to have some kind of positive effect.

Yeah, the "Kerry just said plans but had no specifics."
1) If Kerry has no specifics how the hell can Bush say how much the "plans" will cost?
2) "I see Bush on the news giving specifics" So Bush gets the benefit of outside the debate info, but Kerry doesn't.
HA! "We're trying to get an analysis of the debate." So stop telling us how fricking religious he is! Go C-Span.

I'm sorry, but how the HELL do you have a domestic policy debate and NOT have a question about the environment. I realize that the questions were probably tailored to swing-state issues, but the environment is still one the of issues on which Bush is most vulnerable.
I guess that's what you get when the moderator is your golfin' buddy.

It seems like more pundits are willing to call it a draw and give Kerry props. I think the one comment I read, that Bush didn't stop Kerry's momentum, gets it right. Kerry won all three debates, but most important, everyone could envision him as the President.
I think JK is tired. He has looked tired for about a week. He should take few days off before the stretch run. Lots of dirt will be flying from Bushco now.

Karen Hughes babbling is just another example of the GOP's Homer Simpson "No, YOU'RE out of line" strategy, which has been working for them for a while. They try to produce confusion and moral ambiguity by accusing us of the things they are and do themselves. It started with the assertion that Al Gore was trying to "steal" the election when it should have been obvious that it was W, and has been repeated ad nauseum in connection with things like "angry liberals." Unfortunately, it works with a measurable fraction of the electorate.

Peoples, get out the vote on Election Day, not now. Who cares about unscientific online polls? You're wasting your time. And so are the Bush people who do the same thing. Obviously, it proves nothing, except that people will participate in dumb online polls.
And any pundit or journalist who takes these polls seriously (which is the only justification I can think of for the faithful participating in them) is an idiot.

I really think that this debatewas the best of the three. Both candidates were pinned down to their positions more accurately.I think we saw Junior get pinned to a no idea position on most of his policies. The other ones he didnt get pinned to he dodged.
Kerry was smooth and concise and clear.A very powerful performance by our next president.

Human scum Larry King prefaced his report of the Gallup results by apologizing to the audience that the public opinion on debates changes 72 hrs after the debate and that the poll wasn't representative (not sure why he says the latter). We must be vigilant. ABC News and Peter Jennings ere trying to spin it in favor of Bush.
I have a feeling that Larry King and, following him, Aarogant Brown will keep spinning it for Bush.
In ABC's poll Kerry beat Bush 42 to 41, with a sample of 38% Republicans compared to 30% Democrats. In the Gallup poll, Kerry beat Bush 52% to 39%. Kerry won this thing. But these news fucks are going to try to take it away from us and John Kerry.
We have to write in and call into these news channels, like ABC, CNN, and MSNBC, to make sure that these so-called journalists do not manipulate public opinion to ruin Kerry's victory.

I admit that I love the media (I know, it's a dysfunctional relationship), but they're making me sick!
This whole idea that you can't call a debate until you find out how people sway in the next 48 hours -- what?!? Call a freakin' winner right away you idiots -- as in a technical winner. Them two days later you can say who supposedly got the bump. But, c'mon are ya so scared of the liberal label that you can't call an obvious winner?

Just to be fair: I thought Bob Schieffer did a very good job. If he was biased in any way, I didn't detect it. Since Schieffer does have personal ties with Bush, I had been skeptical. So was Atrios. I'm glad we were wrong.
There really is something to be said for professionalism.

Take a look at the LATimes poll. It asks about all three debates and asks about attitude changes, if any. When I looked at it, 96.9 per cent said that Kerry won all three debates! Only 10 per cent said that they were for Bush before the debates and were still for him. Just under 10,000 had voted thus far.

At this point, now that its past bed time the talking heads can bable all they want and the public will be secure in their heads that Kerry is fit to be president since the initial diagnosis is that Kerry won.
Yes the media will try and take it away, but that is a moot point,THe long term effect has been burned into the psyche of the public and they will now make up their minds to vote for Kerry .
This was a powerfull performance by Kerry. He blew my socks off.I believe that most of thinking Americans will have seen this point of view too.

Sadly, the debate had to compete with the big baseball games. But I did watch a bit. Kerry seemed tired, and his delivery on the "taking advice from Bush about fiscal policy is like taking advice from Tony Soprano on fighting crime" joke was pretty weak.
Bush's mouth was droopy and he had some curious reactions from time to time. It has struck me that he actually believes his own propaganda. He insisted on repeating the easily debunked claim that Kerry has voted to raise taxes 98 times, and was incredulous that Kerry would contest the notion. And Bush totally whiffed when asked by Schieffer how he would pay for Social Security reform.
I spent some time trying to figure out the "rectangular humpback" mystery. I saw the strange shape on his back right at the end, before the Bushes dashed off the stage. Did anybody else? For the most part Bush seemed reasonably glib (though hardly truthful), but he did have occasional strange pauses that made me think he was channeling William Shatner.

Poll on Yahoo. I've never seen one of those. Click on the homepage link.
Larry Kig Live just showed a clip of Bush intended to spin it so that Bush looks "principled." Our victory will become defeat unless we fight these newsfucks at CNN, MSNBC and the networks right now.

Remember my friends,
it's not just the online polls,
we also need to write EMAILS and regular old style LETTERS too.
pick your least favorite talking head, and bombard him/her.
pick your least (or most) fave network and MAIL THEM.
tell them why you think Kerry won, and more importantly why KERRY will make a great president.

The Wyoming link above is to a poll with a tricky question. The question is "Which candidate needs to win tonight's debate in order to improve their chances in the election." In other words, automatically choosing Kerry's name sends a message most of your poll-takers do not intend.
Make sure to read each of the poll questions before resonding folks.

Bush promised not to get a flu shot this year. Pretty irresponsible behavior from a President, not to take a simple step to keep himself healthy and fit for duty, eh? Interesting how he emphasized that the shortage was due to a British company (Tony Blair, please note the snide tone), and that now the U.S. is looking into importing more doses from (irony alert) Canada.

Someone mentioned this up thread but I gotta agree.
I was finishing getting dinner on the table when the rest of the family yells at me to come see: "Bush has a big lugi in the corner of his mouth!"
Ha Ha sure enough he did. Plus he looked like he was on something -- that big shit eatin grin on his face.
And he slurred his words more than usual. Weird.

Speaking of Willian Shatner, Bush would fit in well in the Star Trek universe as a Feringhi, what with the high=pitched whining voice and the smirk and blinky eyes. And the monomaniacal devotion to business and money.
So the Bulge is back, eh? Most curious. None of the explanations I've heard really fit or make much sense.
Kerry should have brought it up somehow.

Hey folks, a Presidential Voting poll that I noticed while voting at MSNBC for Kerry as the winner of tonight's debate:
In my territory, flu shots are available only if you're on a doc's list as being on the "endangered" list (very young, over 65, ill, etc.). They're being very careful about it.
Very true about getting a pneumonia shot -- very VERY important. When you die of flu, it's usually pneumonia for which no antibiotics are very effective these days. We've worn out the antibiotics...

Here's part of what Josh Marshall (Talking Points Memo) has to say:
"Kerry controlled the tempo of the evening. He kept the president on the defensive. He landed his key points about the budget deficit and the president's avoidance of the job issue several times. On health care there was more of a tussle. But I don't think the president framed the evening in the way he and his advisors wanted -- defining Kerry as an out-of-the-mainstream liberal. He did better at that in debate number two than he did tonight.
"Let me draw back now and say something about timing and the progression of the debate. I thought both candidates came out to fight. The president came in hitting hard. But Kerry stood toe-to-toe with him. And after maybe 15 or 20 minutes I thought some of the ummph went out of the president..."

I still cannot believe; not one question on energy or environment, that is appalling.
Kerry did great in many ways.
I would like to just once see a moderator call both sides on the tendency to not answer the question. It is maddening, and they both did some of this although i thought Bush was guilty of this more often.
I'm almost afraid to say this, but President Kerry sounds pretty good to me.

I made that Ferengi comparison a week ago or so. Glad to see that someone else sees it.
I actually cheered as I heard some of Kerry's answers. He stepped around potential traps on religion and abortion.
Speaking of abortion, I loved it when Bush charged that Kerry's health plan would take away patients' choice. Choice is good, eh, George - unless you're a pregnant woman, of course. Then the government is supposed to control you.

Just to be fair: I thought Bob Schieffer did a very good job. If he was biased in any way, I didn't detect it. Since Schieffer does have personal ties with Bush, I had been skeptical. So was Atrios. I'm glad we were wrong.
There really is something to be said for professionalism.

schieffer was the best of the four moderators hands down - he even went into immigration and border security which I never thought he would do -- i just wished he went after the environment for a question or two - but overall a really nice job

Oh this is so much fun...
As usual, the instant online polls of news organizations, that the DNC is steering its members to here, will be less valuable and useful if the result is so stunningly skewed that no one believes it. So a poll that shows Kerry won 99 percent to 1 percent is less useful to the DNC than one that shows Kerry won 70 percent to 30 percent....
from freep, earlier tonight.
Kerry 69, Bush 31...

Question: Why is it that when Kerry is up in the polls by 1 or 2 points, all the talking heads say the race is a "virtual dead-heat"... but when Bush is up one or two, they mention that he's ahead... And it's not just the usual suspects... EVERYBODY does it. WTF?
