Last Friday, I told you about an important strategy meeting taking place over the weekend. Now I want to report back about how that meeting went and how your efforts made all the difference.
Towards the end of every presidential campaign, strategists like me crowd into small conference rooms and huddle around spreadsheets with polling data and financial reports. We argue about the best course of action in key battleground states and then we argue with the finance guy about if we can afford it. These meetings usually involve a series of tough decisions guided as much by cash shortages as they are by strategy.
The meeting we had this weekend was different. Time and time again when we decided on the best strategy to win a state and turned to the finance guy his answer was "go for it." It was "go for it" because of the contributions you made just last week.
You deserve some specifics: At one point during the meeting, talk turned to Colorado. Many pundits thought this state was in the win column for George Bush. But polls show this is not the case -- we can win Colorado. We decided that we should be aggressive here and once again the answer was "go for it." On the night of November 2, when Colorado is called for John Kerry, know it was because of you.
I just wanted to say "thank you" -- you continue to make the difference.
Let's get it done,

Glad to see how well that "Faith-based" crap is workin' out for the Bushman. Since it's probable that Jah told him there weren't going to be casualties, he can at least pass the buck on this mistake to the Man on the Cloud.

God, Robertson is so full of shit. "God told me it was going to be a disaster!" God doesn't tell Robertson anything, and if the war was going well, he'd be saying God told him it was going to be a cakewalk.
I can't even fling this at any wingnuts, because they'll just say, "Oh, we know Robertson's a lying shit." The guy has negative-50 credibility...

It's a sad day when you're noting that the judgement of an American president is far less reliable than 'Pat' Robertson's direct line to the Jebus.

Robertson said the president then told him, "Oh, no, we're not going to have any casualties."
"I've been to war. I've raised twins. If I had a choice, I'd rather go to war."
These statements, taken together, are a slap in the face to the US military who have suffered such heavy casualties in this wackjob's adventure. Bush's absurdness never ceases.

I've been to war. When? When did you go to war? I've raised twins. Not very well. I bet he was hands off in his parenting style. If I had a choice, I'd rather go to war. What an awful thing to say. What an insult to his daughters, and what an insult to the soldiers.
And why is Robertson just talking about this now? God I hate Pat Robertson.
13 days and counting. Had my Kerry Edwards signs ripped off again last night. These are the ones that I just replaced, because the other ones were destroyed.
This who down in whoville will just keep singing...

Bush's ability to simply will away the obvious through the fervor of his beliefs reminds me of a satirical Australian TV show years ago. In one skit, the supposed President of a large oil company is being grilled by a reporter about the fact that one of his ships broke open and is "spilling massive amounts of oil and causing heavy damage to the environment.
When asked what he is going to do about the problem, the President replies, "Oh we've already dealt with the problem. We towed the ship outside the environment."
George Bush has spent four years towing his mind well beyond reality and now it is clear, somebody cut the towrope long ago.

13 days and counting. Had my Kerry Edwards signs ripped off again last night. These are the ones that I just replaced, because the other ones were destroyed.
Probably the same culprit. If you get anymore signs, put tabasco and vinger on them. You can get a small jar of it in the pepper section of your supermarket. Here the brand name is Trappery's. Anyway, splash it all over the signs. The wing nut grabs your signs, he's sure to rub his eyes late at night and become blinded driving into the ditch and flying through the windshield impaled on somebody's mailbox.

I emailed Safire and told him he was more amusing when he was making shit up about Muhammad Atta in Prague than just rewriting RNC blast faxes.
I considered it my duty as a member of the reality-based community.

The big question of this election is if the corporate establishment will pull the wool over enough Americans to reimpose the idiot son of one of it's most corrupt families as president of the United States. George W. Bush is the facade over corporate rule, he follows in the footsteps of Ford, Reagan and Bush I. All of them figureheads covering rot. After Quayle they figured they needed some adult supervision so they tried out Dole and when that didn't work they put Cheney in charge of the boy.
The face isn't that important, it's the fact that the Republican party and the broadcast and cable media are entirely in the hands of the corporate oligarchs. Only by defeating the political arm of the oligarchs and destroying their hold on the media will they be defeated. Both have to be done.
Religon isn't in the hands of the oligarchs, at least not all of it. If people, such as myself, who care about real religon are to keep it from being a third arm of the oligarchy we are going to have to challenge the fundamentalists on the ground of religon.
To begin, "christians" are heritics, exactly the people Jesus warned against. "By their fruit will you know them". Look at what they produce, rot, corruption, hate, violence and greed. Fear as a replacement for faith, comic action instead of justice. They are frauds and it is the duty of every Christian who believe in the gospel of Jesus to oppose them.
We need a good old fashioned religous conflict. Call them what they are, the spawn of evil.

Even as Robertson criticized Bush for downplaying the potential dangers of the Iraq war, he heaped praise on Bush, saying he believes the president will win the election and that "the blessing of heaven is on Bush."
"Even if he stumbles and messes up -- and he's had his share of stumbles and gaffes -- I just think God's blessing is on him," Robertson said.
So an ill conceived disaster which hsa yielded nothing more than crony contracts and nearly 10,000 casualties is a "stumble." Pat Robertson is absolutely satanic.

Pat Robertson doesn't know this "politics game'? Um, didn't he like run for president?
These televangelists - a group that includes our very own president - think we are all as brain-dead as their followers.
And the Bushes just treat everyone like the hired help.

Bush's god told him there wouldn't be casualties;
Robertson's god told him the war would be a disaster.
Whose god told the truth?
Why the fuck can't people see that there is something not quite consistent here?

But the number of American casualties pales into paltry insignificance compared to the number of Iraqis who have been killed.
Sorry, man - neither paltry nor insignificant. Yes, the Iraqis have lost 10 times our number - and that's just civilians, apparently no one has any idea of nor concern for the Iraqi military, most of whom were no doubt conscripts. But - 1100 lives snuffed out and many thousands more hopelessly wrecked. If we still had Vietnam-era medical technology and transportation, I think we would be at 5-6000 dead by now. But many of those casualties are brain-dead or otherwise ruined physicallly. Nothing paltry or insignificant about losse on either side. My guts are torn in two every time I see another death in this stupid stupid stupid stupid criminally stupid invasion.

The frist guy to compare war to fatherhood- aWol Bush.
See this is freudian. Bush never showed up for guard duty, he never showed up to play sober daddy.
Some people think this is funny. They misunderestimate the serious, revealing glimpse into chimp cranium that one remark actually offers.
As for "we're not going to suffer casualties" line, well Repuke politicians never have to serve or fight.
And collateral damage helps Bush in polls. See also Jesse Lynch (who now speaks out against this war and should not be forgotten) and Lynndie England( the poor victim of Abu Grab-Rape).
It's why they tried to send a unit on a bad fuel run to Fallujah. So what if their vehicles are not sutiable, send them out. Any jeep that does return is cost plus, and any solider that does not return helps Bush in his base polls.
See Bush doesn't give a rat's ass about undecideds. He lost last time. He's floating trial balloons of voter fraud. They need to just shut down DC as a whole. Drive trucks and cars and park them around the capital bldg and white house and SCOTUS.
Call their fucking bluff. Give the media a real story to cover. Only people who can honestly pull such a gig are large gatherings (rock the vote) and large groups (labor unions or veterans support groups, enviro groups with loyal enrollment).
Remember what civil rights entailed in its struggle.

The fact that 1,100 lives lost in Iraq is insignificant. We lost 400,000 in WW2, and Saddam was 100 times the threat to our security than Hitler. Those 1,100 lives are but a blip, a speck, a miniscule drop. Trust me, the majority of America is not so obsessed with body bags as you whiny liberals. Why should we waste our beautiful minds on stuff like that!

Had Kennedy lived, Krulak thought, the war
might have gone differently. Kennedy’s
fascination with counterinsurgency and the
lessons he would have learned by 1965 would
have enabled him to grasp the importance of
what Krulak was saying when Krulak had gone
to the Oval Office with his strategy paper in
hand. The president would have forced the
Army generals to fight the war intelligently.
If Krulak was right about Kennedy, if there
was any substance to his musing, it was
another of the many might-have-beens of
Vietnam. In this war, 14, 691 Marines were to
die, three times as a many as had died in
Korea, a weighty loss in lives, a loss that
had weighed more heavily than the 24,511
Marines who had been lost during World War
II. For Brute Krulak was to know, before most
of these Marines of Vietnam had died, that
all of them were to die in vain.

lessons he would have learned by 1965 would
have enabled him to grasp the importance of
what Krulak was saying when Krulak had gone
to the Oval Office with his strategy paper in

Pat R.'s god isn't too good with weather prophesy either, as I recall.
I've always wondered why these apparitions never tell you something you need to know. That Croat BVM sighting, she lectured girls on their hem lines and demanded to be worshiped every day. Shouldn't she have warned them about the coming war?
By the way, that's usually a good way to tell a sane Catholic from a fascist. The fascists always go for these apparitions. Especially Fatima. That's their favorite. Not 100% reliable but something to watch out for.

I think we all ought to thank Rev. Pat for providing the Kerry campaign for today's talking point. The Moron was also adamant in telling Russert back in March that he was absolutely certain he was going to win in Nov. My paranoid mind at the time told me he knew something that the rest of the media wasn't aware of. Now I realize from Robertson's statement that the guy is not cock sure, but , in fact, delusional. I'm convinced that the bulge in his back is a Jack Daniels IV drip.

Seems like the plan is for Bush to get yet another free pass from the mainstream media; doesn't seem like they plan on picking this up at all. Clearly they lack any concern for the military who have suffered such extensive casualties because of Bush's "no casualty" fantasy. For shame.

I agree that this is a bit of a gift and that Satan is a notorious liar. But for Robertson to sit there and say that George told him that god said "no casualties," and Robertson answered that god told him it would be a disaster is so insane that I may never recover from having read it first thing this morning.

"13 days and counting. Had my Kerry Edwards signs ripped off again last night. These are the ones that I just replaced, because the other ones were destroyed."
Vicki - I had my sign ripped off (my one gun-nut fundie Rethug neighbor was the prime suspect). So I made another sign that said "Some scared Republican STOLE my Kerry/Edwards Sign!!" Mind you, I live on a busy street. Suspect comes to my house the next day, gives me a half-assed story on how he saw it blow away in a windstorm - zero credibility, holes in his version. (He's obviously not part of the reality based community.) I told him I didn't believe him and closed the door in his face. Next morning, my sign is back in my front yard!!

Yesterday, our local yokel noon news actually allowed this telescammer, Robertson, on to hawk his lame ass book on the S. Court and his far right agenda. It really pisses me off because I tune into the local news for the latest on the home town murder, mayhem, and drug busts not friggin' kooky religious proselytizing. If I wanted to watch Pat's proselytizing, I can easily enough find him yammering away on the friggin' 700 Club on one of the cable channels. I sure as hell don't need seeing his ugly mug on our local news. Pardon me now while I go express my pissedoffness to our local yokel NBC affiliate. Toodles.

I think we all ought to thank Rev. Pat for providing the Kerry campaign for today's talking point.
This will help Kerry, but I'm pissed off because this should not be turned into a partisan or campaign issue. This is an issue concerning the mental health of a sitting president. The media should be all over this; Kerry and the DNC should not have to be the ones to point out the outrageousness of Bush's lunacy and cynicism, considering how heavy our casualty toll is. I say we continue to bombard the media with emails as was suggested upthread so that they can get report this crucial story which exposes what appears to be a severe mental illness on the part of the American president. Another strategy: if the American media won't fulfill their responsibilities for reporting this, perhaps international media sources, particularly London's, would see the seriousness of this story and should be contacted.

So, let me get this straight. Robertson says that because God is blessing Junior, he can just keep on screwing up and he will not be held accountable? God is pleased about this?
That may be a theroy worth persuing.
If George Bush maintians power through whatever means, perhaps we should all start screwing up, big time. Maybe we should all, immediately, stop paying our credit cards, go out into the streets and just have a freaking party for days, refuse to go to work, shut down the entire nation. I mean, we shoud be trying to do the will of God, right?
We could all use a few blessings, right? But who knew that George Bush had the answer? God loves screw-ups.
Actually that is exactly what we should do. There is more than one way to skin a CorporoNazi!

I'd never in a gazillion years thought that I would side with Pat Robertson on something.
From a recovering fundamentalist perspective. This is definately huge!

I agree that this is a bit of a gift and that Satan is a notorious liar. But for Robertson to sit there and say that George told him that god said "no casualties," and Robertson answered that god told him it would be a disaster is so insane that I may never recover from having read it first thing this morning.
AAAaaaargh!

Even if they try to spin (I haven't turned on the TV yet today, so they may have already done it) the "no casualties" into "pray there would be no casualties", I would give my right nut to be able to face the Chimp on TV and ask if he felt that God regarded him so highly that it was not out of line to ask that he be granted a bloodless conquest of the Middle East?

I want the U.S. to pass a law requiring any politician who votes for a war to fight in that war.
No excuses, no exceptions. Stop protecting them from the consequences of their decisions. Or God's decisions. Whatever.

Hey, I'm all for Allan Sherman's Perpetual War Zone (which he offered up in The Rape Of The A*P*E).
Simple plan: We rope off Greenland. Anyone who wants to settle a dispute with violence can go there, and is supplied with whatever they want from sticks and rocks to tac-nukes. Nations are not the only ones who can use the PWZ; for instance, Coke and Pepsi could duke it out once and for all.
Violators, i.e., those who would start armed hostilities elsewhere in the world, are parachuted naked into the middle of the PWZ.

GN - I happen to think that a lot of the media realize that Bush is insane and are covering for him. And I can't figure out why.
But if I can sit this far removed from D.C. and know absolutely, based on what he says, how he acts and the 3 debates he participated in, that he is insane, then the press corps at least has to know. And I will never forgive the press corps and the rest of the media for letting an insane preznit stay in office. Never.

I'm tired of hearing how soldiers 'died in vain'. To me, no soldier ever dies in vain.
They may not 'win', but they serve as lessons to the living.
It may seem cruel to suggest that thousands died just to make a minor point, but that's the alternative? If we don't understand the lesson, only then will they have died in vain.

Derail the Vote 2004: A Karl Rove Production
The Bush administration’s long-anticipated October Surprise is upon us. Are you watching? The real magnitude of the story is not evident, because it’s the sum of many local and regional stories. So do this. Go to Google News and type these words into the search engine: voter registration fraud. As of Monday morning, that string yielded 1,940 returns from the previous couple of weeks.

Orwell sums it up nicely:
"The point is that we are all capable of believing things which we know to be untrue, and then, when we are finally proved wrong, impudently twisting the facts so as to show that we were right. Intellectually, it is possible to carry on this process for an indefinite time: the only check on it is that sooner or later a false belief bumps up against solid reality, usually on a battlefield."

No Dems have to make it an issue, not wait for the media to get off their lazy asses. didnt you guys and gals learn anything from FOX/Sinclair/SwiftBoats/etc. Every dem blogger should be pushing this, and and ad should be made. Terry needs to push this too. Or else this story will die.
You're right; I guess I temporarily left the "reality-based community" in thinking that there's any chance media would actually engage in the business of real news and analysis. You've slapped the silly out of me.

Aside from the asinine remarks by Robertson about his and Bush's links to God - the very idea that Bush felt so god-like himself (as to make such a god-awful and stupid claim) is truly scary - I am now convinced more than ever that Bush is a madman.

Never.

Guy - that's exactly what I've been saying!!!
October surprise?? you're soaking in it!!!
we are in the midst of a HUGE orchestrated effort to keep democrats from being on the voter registration rolls ... last time they did it through "purging" felons, but they knew they couldn't play that same card again ...
so what better way to achieve that end than to shred all Dem registration forms (and receipts)!!!

President Bush to Rev. Pat Robertson in 2003 before our invasion of Iraq: "Oh, no, we're not going to have any casualties."
This comment, a promise to a noted national religious figure, is light years ruder than talking about somebody's campaign-staff daughter who's been out about her sexuality for ages.
The President is a bad man, a BAD man, and a bad Commander -in-Chief, and I say that as a citizen.

I beg you to remember that these fucking fascist pigs will likely NOT quietly relinquish their power; AND that they can call upon the services of several million rabid, fanatic, religious zealots who will believe the political defeat of the Bushistas to be the equivalent of the defeat of their Savior by the devil (and who seem willing to sacrifice EVERYBODY ELSE to their faith); AND that the fascists will not scruple to unleash these rabid religious dogs should it suit them.

Some highlights of last night's Michael Moore event in Seattle
- Michael Moore predicting that the 9 wingnut protestors outside Seattle Key Arena would get equal or greater air time in the 11PM news. And what do you know? Fuck you Kiro tv...
- Eddie Vedder singing "You've got to hide your love away", "Masters of war" (fucking brilliant), and a Cat Stevens song, all on solo acoustic guitar.
- Michael Moore telling us about Eddie's 4 month old daughter, who has a t-shirt that says "I already know more than the president"
- Jim McDermott, our fearless Representative, who was interviewed in F/911
- Eddie Fucking Vedder, bitches!
- Moore was in great form, and Key Arena was filled almost to capacity (10,000+).

It could have been done very differently and we coulda way avoided these casualties, I think most people grok that.
........
We really should never have had anything remotedly like this.
........
Bush massively bungled the way we went in, the way he operated and created the conditions for the massive catastrophe we now see.
........
It shoulda all been very different altogether.
.........
Thank heavens the fool is going.
.........
Slowly, we will start to put it all back together.
.........
President Kerry will be a great President for 8 years.

That the boy king has a cavalier disregard for the lives of soldiers.

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -- Former President Clinton is likely campaign for Sen. John Kerry early next week in Philadelphia, a senior Democratic official who is familiar with the former president's plans said Tuesday.
GREAT NEWS This is the October surprise I've been praying for.
The Lazarus tour will Grab Headlines
and the repubs will squirm. Bill Clinton in Pennsylvania, Florida, Ohio, and Wisconsin (?Arkansas?) will be a lethal weapon for the Dems.

Oh good christ - the Dallas Morning News has gone into full "elect Bush at all costs" mode. There is a scurrilous attack on Kerry on the editorial page today. Mark Davis, a radio talking head, listed a bunch of things Kerry needs to do: Apologize to Mary Cheney; stop the hate; stop using churches for political reasons...
What the fuck?

Apologies if this has already been said, but how is it that the Lord told Robertson one thing and Bush another? Was the Lord playing tricks? Testing somebody? I'm confused.

Captain McCallister, they are not finished yet. We still must fuck them while they are down. SBG fucked up and they will pay. I'm calling many of the local advertisers daily letting them know they lost my potential (and current) business. I'm not shopping Circuit City until they announce they've pulled ads. I have a $1k speaker purchase I'm itching to start on. They lost it.

in 2 hours
Bartlett : "President never said that, he was misquoted."
in 3 hours:
Robertson: " I think I may have misspoke, what bush said was that he "prayed" there would be no casualties.
in 3 hours and 1 minute:
SCLM forgets story
xegar
Sounds very plausable, especially if Herr Rove has already gotten on the horn to Pat, mentioning in passing that the FBI has on occasion investigated televangelists for fraud....

I also think there's a special place in some hell dimension for Robertson but
I dont' think he's stupid.
This is political. Somebody did something that pissed him off. Or his constituency has convinced him to take a stand. Or he's sniffed the air and figured out what side's going to be up post-November 2.
He damn well knows what he said will have an impact. This is a shitbomb and he threw it on purpose.
Proof that Bushco's support base is crumbling.

I'm sorry everyone, but the fix is in for Bush. John Howard, Australia's newly re-elected Prime Minister, just today came out in favour of Bush. Never mind the utter lack of propriety in doing so, but why the hell would he do that unless he knew there was a fix in? He's highly trusted by Bush; he's stood by all the WMD lies all along. He must know for a certainty that Bush will win. Otherwise, he'll be screwed if Kerry takes office. What would Howard say to Kerry in their first telephone conversation?
I think there's a fix in, and our weaselly dick of a PM in Australia knows about it.

I will repeat this till you're sick of it over the next 2 weeks.
To quote Michael Moore from last night "Voting isn't enough!"
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE volunteer for duty, whether it's phone canvassing, door to door canvassing, or driving people to the polls on Nov 2, please sign up for volunteer work.
Don't be put off by the idea of phoning and door to door work, mostly it's all about contacting Democratic voters to give them friendly reminders and motivation to do their bit on Nov 2. You won't come into wingnuts or other hostiles, if that's what you're worried about (as I was). It's COOL, so no worries!
It's all about GOTV people!
Please sign up!!
I love you all (yes I do)

They're most definitely trying to fix the elections; if this were the year 2000, it would probably work.

Here's some good news, though.
During the month of September the Bush campaign spent more than half of the $75 million in public funds that they are allowed to spend between their convention and the election.
And what has he got to show for it?

W. can't get his story straight on anything. His latest "gaffe."
"My opponent seems to be willing to say almost anything he thinks will benefit him politically,” he said. “After standing on the stage, after the debates, I made it very plain we will not have an all-volunteer army.”
“And yet this week...” he continued, before suddenly realising the gaffe and shouting: “We will have an all-volunteer army.”
So, when he told Robertson that there would be no casualties, he really meant...?
In the words of Paul Simon, "I don't find this stuff amusing anymore."

W. can't get his story straight on anything.
In the words of Paul Simon, "I don't find this stuff amusing anymore."

ummm, dimethylsulfoxide. Someone knows thier organic compounds.
This is getting too sophisticated. I suggest urine or dogshit.

No no, dogshit is funny, but what's funnier is that LSD + DMSO + touching a sign to remove it = tripping freeper who doesn't think they've taken any drugs. DMSO can be used to push drugs through the skin IIRC.

Magnum,
Little Johnny Howard is covering his ass; Australia still has troops in Iraq and he was a big proponent of the invasion. If he comes out now and says "By the way, I think George Bush is a stupid, bible-thumping git," he has to explain why he hasn't pulled his troops out of Iraq yet.
As much as I hate to say it (having staunchly liberal -- in the American sense -- relatives in Oz), Howard is catering to his electorate.
And what about the rest of the WORLD who wants Bush out?

Oh good christ - the Dallas Morning News has gone into full "elect Bush at all costs" mode. There is a scurrilous attack on Kerry on the editorial page today. Mark Davis, a radio talking head, listed a bunch of things Kerry needs to do: Apologize to Mary Cheney; stop the hate; stop using churches for political reasons...
What the fuck?
Tena | Email | Homepage | 10.20.04 - 10:05 am
Take heart, Tena. If they have to savage Kerry like that in Texas this close to the election, they're scared out of their minds.
I know we're not going to take Texas, but it's more competitive than BushCo ever imagined, and that's gotta have 'em sweating.

Dallas Morning News says Kerry has to apologize to Mary Cheney?
What a bunch of BS!
Fox and Friends were pushing that this morning, too. "Kerry may lose the election over the Mary Cheney comment."
The Mary Cheney comment is but a very micro element of this election. That's all they've got to go on? Drives me nuts. What drives me even nuttier is that I live in a country where gays are being used as tools to advance a platform of hatred.
I'm seriously becoming misanthropic toward the Bush apologists. Like I tell people this year, I don't respect you and I think you're an idiot if you're voting for Bush. I've never been so aggressively vocal about politics in my life, but I'm sincere.
And yeah, everybody, work the polls!

1. No president who lost the popular vote and won the electoral college ever went on to win a second term.
2. The tallest candidate almost always wins
3. Dems are energized and will turn out to vote Kerry in record numbers
4. The polls are wrong for all the reasons we've discussed before.
Just GOTV and John Kerry will be our next president. We can all tivo Bush's crabbed, ungracious concession speech and watch it over and over and over again. We can make pics of John and Teresa celebrating their win into our computer wallpaper. Who will you convince to vote Kerry today?

Vicki Stein, caught someone on CNN this morning saying that the only ones who continue to push the Mary Cheney issue are a certain group of repubs, including Mary Matalin. Strangely absent from his list was Mary Cheney. He said everyone else is concentrating on the real issues, you know, jobs, Social Security, the war, etc.
