GravatarI dont see how an attack anywhere in the US helps chimpy. After all, it would be the second time such an attack would have taken place on chimpy's watch.
So busy campaigning that they avoided protecting the country.

I feel it in my bones. I feel it in the air. I feel it with the growing attacks from the right and the moronic statements I and my brother have heard from Republicans ... they know they are going to lose, big time ... and are left with nothing more than simple minded attacks.

GravatarOh, and IIRC, one of the vice presidential candidates DIED before the election in 1912 and the election went on regardless. IIRC, the nominee chose someone else and the election proceeded as if nothing had happened. It was a different kind of campaign then, of course, but there would be precedent for continuing if a candidate were sick.

I also think he is sick with something. Will America be pissed when he reveals his Hep C/Liver Cancer/Epilepsy?
Or will they give him a pass and he will get some sympathy vote. You know his sister died of Leukemia. That is why he is such a strong supporter of trying to find a cure for it. (What, he isn't? What a heartless jerk!)

GravatarDid you folks see the shot of him on First Draft for the caption contest?

Scary skin color. Yellow. Spider veins. Something with his liver.

They are trying to spin this that "We JUST FOUND OUT!" He is trying very hard to survive, he needs your prayers. Of course the perfect illness won't kill him it will just make him have to get some help and then be all better after he gets the sympathy vote. See the thing is, Cheney isn't robust so they can't leak his serious illness until AFTER the election. I the meantime they need to keep him underwraps so that he doesn't show his fainting spells.

See the thing is, Cheney isn't robust so they can't leak his serious illness until AFTER the election. I the meantime they need to keep him underwraps so that he doesn't show his fainting spells.

Gravataryou know, it could very well just be for security reasons, to minimize risk to the prez in case of disruptive attack prior to elections.

Cause, let me tell you, Crawford is out in the middle of buttfuck nothing! The closest town is Waco. And while Waco is big enough for something to go unnoticed, it's a hell of a lot smaller than DC or any other major city. If he's in crawford, it would be easy for the SS to close ranks around him-he would be as safe as he would be on an island or up in an airplane

Ain't gonna matter if Bush flys to Iraq because all anybody is going to remember is Big Dog, is he healthy, is he going to affect the election, etc.

GravatarYou just KNOW that Karen Hughes was behind the "It's Hard Work!" idea. She and George were being stung by the charge that he spends too much time at the ranch.

I just put together a short video of him from the debates (on my blog) and he really HITS the "It's hard work!" line. Because his words are battling
his actions.

I snuck in a voiceover of Karl telling George what to say in the video. Funny how well it fits in with his pauses.

GravatarDo you think it might have something to do with the triumphant return of the Big Dog next week?

Cause that's going to get a hell of a lot of attention. The repugs have to be careful-they may not want to be caught publically putting down Clinton while he's still in fragile health. So, if they can't play by their usual rules, maybe they're just going to sit it out.

speaking of that, did anyone see Crowley this evening saying comparing Kerry to Clinton, Kerry having a chance to learn about being "truly presidential?"

I hate her.

This sounds thhe most likely. After all he *was* wearing something like a defibulator in the debates.

GravatarDown time at the pig farm? For one thing, he doesn't have to win elections, he has people who do that for him.

Or, maybe he's getting subconscious pre-fetal-position stirrings and seeks a private, familiar enclosure.

Thinking back to his daddy's despair in the final days of his failed reelection campaign, when he brought Flush Limpballs out on the stage with him, I wonder when aWol's fear of impending defeat will come up in the back of his throat. Surely Rush is too sullied to be of much use. Bad timing for O'Really's difficulties. Perhaps Hammity, putting the cream on Sean's patricidal wet dream? Or Michael Weenie? I guess that, whoever it is, this would be the sign for me that Shrub was, at long last, toast.

GravatarBush hasn't worked a 24-hour day in his life -- I doubt he's ever cracked 12 hours.

Neglecting his daily photo-ops, my guess is he averages 12 minutes. Why would the boy in the bubble who relies entirely on his "divinely inspired" instincts need any more time? Certainly, no real thoughtful consideration of the issues goes into any decision he makes. He'd actually have to read something for that.

GravatarSOMEONE has a serious medical condition.

It certainly looks that way. And it's not going to be somethng they can cover up this time.

Heart specialists? Nah, it's gotta be his liver.
Dr. Pedant

There is something that is effecting his brain. Since that story about the doctor speculating that he has early onset dementia I've heard some old tapes. He used to know how to construct a sentence that wasn't on a paper in front of him. And it's come on really fast. There is something seriously wrong with him and the DC press must know about it. They're part of the cover-up.

GravatarYeah Hermes,

Is Pat Robertson lying?

Or did Chimpy really say there would be no casualties in Iraq?

You can tell us, we won't spread it around.

GravatarI hope someone has mentioned this--I read only about a third of the thread.

The illness or death of a candidate won't legally affect the election because we are NOT electing a Pres & VPres.

We are electing Electors who will ever so courteously elect our next Preznit for us, somewhere in early January, I believe.

GravatarCan he just die from the excesses of his youth before he kills more thousands of people? Well, that wouldn't work, you'd still have everybody else and it would make him a fake martyr. But that is still the most terrifying thing we've seen in a long time: nobody needs to be told what can follow an extended stay at the ranch for no particular reason.

GravatarLook, if there's a terrorist attack before election day, their whole "A vote for Kerry means we'll be attacked" strategy bites them right in the ass. So if it happens, the Bushistas are NOT behind it, m'kay?

As for the trip to Iraq...I can't help but think even the most ardent Bush supporter wouldn't see that as cheap.

He's just tired. This is not a guy who likes to work hard, remember. And Kerry needs to be all over it.

GravatarBoston 8, New York 1, bottom of the fourth.

Nope, Boston 8, New York 1, bottom of the sixth!

Will the curse reverse?

Disclaimer: I am NOT a baseball fan, have never watched a whole baseball game in my life...but even I can appreciate this!!

Actually, I watched most of a game once when I saw the Orioles play...DUBYA's team! And Dubya & then-President Dad were there! It was a huge pain because of all the security, and I remember shrugging my shoulders, thinking: "Spoiled rich kid" and never giving Dubya another thought until he ran for Pres. Ha.

I'm so not a fan I don't even remember which team he owned. It was some Texas team, right?

BTW wha?, you are hilarious.

GravatarCaligula used to be fairly articulate. I've seen some of those old tapes too and he wasn't always so clumsy with words.

And he's gotten rapidly worse in the past four years.

Something is wrong with him, but I'm not prepared to guess what. Being President (even a fake president) is a uniquely stressful job. Just look at pictures of Lincoln when he started his term, and compare it to pictures from four years later. The difference is startling.

GravatarSeraphiel, Lincoln also lost a child while in the White House. And there are those who think he had a heart condition that might have killed him had he not been shot.

It's been one of my pet peeves with this preznit, that he simply does not appear to have carried the weight of his office. But perhaps there's been something going on we don't know about.

I hope he rests and takes care of himself after Nov. 2. He'll have plenty of time.

GravatarOh yeah, I was so OT I forgot to say:

I agree with the commentor upthread -- I feel "Kerry in a landslide" in my bones. Just like the sinking feeling of dismay I got in August of 2000.

Not that I'm claiming to be prescient. But my gut is at least as scientific as Gallup!

GravatarI hadn't put that much stock in the idea before now, but I'm really starting to think that Bush is indeed sick, in a "we gotta cover this up because it's too late to replace him" way:

- he won't take his physical
- seems like he's undergone a noticeable mental deterioration
- the mystery bulge under the clothes
- he's stopped running
- the sag on the left side of his face
- a lot of scary-ass pictures of his face floating around lately
- and now he's taking time off, even just one day, 10 days before the election?

What really made me come around to believing this was the fact that he quit running. They say it's a knee problem, but I don't buy it. Running was the closest thing to Jesus for him -- he's more proud of his 5-K times than anything else he's ever done in his life.

I no longer wonder if he's sick, rather how ill is he?

GravatarFolks, I think it's obvious what's going on.

This is cover for a super secret surprise trip to Iraq. While in Iraq, he'll leave his hotel/compound, by himself, to walk down to the local 7/11 for a slurpee and some smokes. He'll walk in on Bin Laden AND Zarqawi trying to rob the place. A chop here, a kick there, and before long, he's standing over both of their lifeless bodies just in time for the press to arrive. Game. Set. Match.

GravatarBeing President (even a fake president) is a uniquely stressful job.

Love you Seraphiel, but I call bullshit. Bullshit. He's not under any stress. Stress comes from hard work and doubt. Bush doesn't work hard or doubt.

ALso. Ya want stress? How about raising kids alone. Thousands, maybe millions do this everyday, unheralded by assholes repeating crap they heard in kindergarten "oh yes. It's very stressful being President."

Ya know the one about breakfast being the most important meal of the day? We all nod sagely when we hear it. Know what? H.L. Mencken, of all people, made it up.

I don't know who made up the thing about "the hardest job in the world", but it's a lie just the same. Even if everyone does nod and agree.

Tell that to Reagan.

GravatarMore than a few have suggested that this is going to be the 'surprise' weekend.

The setup seems to be to isolate Bush such that he can't comment on some incendiary event/revelation that will come out Friday, shape the discussion over the weekend, and build up to a big Bush 'moment' late Monday or midweek wherein he solemnly addresses the issue, declares Kerry a traitor, and implies that the race is over.

Thus, we should begin efforts at a pre-emption, focussing on this trip ahead of time as an indicator of foreknowledge.

GravatarLove you Seraphiel, but I call bullshit. Bullshit. He's not under any stress. Stress comes from hard work and doubt. Bush doesn't work hard or doubt.

Traveling around constantly is very draining. And it's obvious that he can't handle any kind of crowd other than the drooling sycophantic variety. I'd have to say that this is the most stressful job he's ever had, because it's almost impossible for daddy's Saudi friends to bail him out of this mess he's gotten all of us into.

He's teetering on the verge of actually being held responsible for something going wrong. This is an experience he has never had to deal with before, and it seems that even the possibility of it is destroying him.

GravatarRegarding the thought that he's going to Iraq:

Won't happen. The insurgents have proven that they can strike inside the Green Zone when they want, and Bush is, in the final analysis, a coward.

And even if he does, it couldn't come off as anything but a stunt. At least he had fake turkee to deliver as a justification last time. There's no such cover this time. Just my opinion.

GravatarThere's certainly good reason to suspect deterioration of Bush's health because of his 20-plus years of alcoholism.

But the droopy mouth was part of his persona since his youth. Watch the Frontline program on Kerry and Bush. Lots of video of early days and Bush is seen many times with the exact same left-sided droop. It's more likely his developing smirk....

But the possibility of mental and physical deterioration due to the alcoholism is very plausible.

I'm not a big fan, but I did finally "get it" watching that game. I've had a soft spot for the Red Sox ever since and still hate the Mets, and the Yankees as well. Go Sox!! Go Kerry!!
Sox take the Series in six games...
Kerry the presidency in 370 EV's...

GravatarStrange time for a rest indeed.

Almost as if the fix was in and Bush was confident Rove's surprise (or the "surprise" terror attack) would cinch the election.

I've said before, when Bush seems too confident at the last minute, it's a very bad sign.

Gravatarthe reasonable answer
maybe He is ducking the fallout from his SINclair minion's propaganda broadcast on Friday pm?

And the Friday night tinfoil hat version.

If you were one of those who pulled the strings ( the unseen force) and you knew that if re-elected Bush and Cheney would surely be embroiled in scandles that would force resignations or even jail, So to assure your continued power and a sure election win in 2004 you have cheney have his Heart attack this weekend, he is replaced by Mcain or Rudy G. ... Bush then wins easy re-election,,,then...Bush resigns because of "health problems" before he can be impeached or the scandels grow too deep, Rudy G. or Mcain become president and you ( the unseen force) have another 8 years to do your dirty work.

Ok Tin foil hats off....

He went to the ranch because he's resting up for the final week.

When sports players go on strike it makes me very upset, luckily for me the NFL has'nt been that stupid in a very long time. But should they become even more braindead than they are.I will not hesitate to drop that sport from my must see list too.

I used to enjoy watching the Dallas Stars play hockey, untill I found out that the opwner of the team is Tom Hicks,CEO (or something) of Clearchannel.Since then I have not watched one minute of hockey.

My dollars go to things that make sense to me,if I see blatant stupidity I shut off the flow of money.

(note to NFL,dont blow it!)

GravatarToday in Cincinnati Cheney ordered and ate a mess of chili dogs (hot dog, chili, chedder cheese, chopped onion and mustard on a lovely bun) so the McKinley Track of VP replacement, while late, can still be on track.
Methinks the Pretzeldent is telegraphing his belief that an electoral fix is in by visiting his blankie in Crawford.
Plus, though hyped on the local toob, Jenna and NotJenna spoke to only a smattering of Young Republicans today at Miami University in Oxford, OH...several said they attended 'cause the girls are "cute". Of course, Jenna was seen making a beeline for fertile Young Rethug hotties.

GravatarI understand, jeebs, Suskind was just now telling Rose how aWol will win, with his fancy electoral machine and all, which of course may be right. I recall reassuring a fretful Ms Compson that Raygun could never win, but I did get nervous when GHWB did not get the nomination, who I thought was a 'safer loss' than the actor front.

But this time I believe there are invisible hands ready with as many lightning bolts as may be necessary to achieve the desired results. I have done some crazy things in my time, but I would never pick a fight with the CIA.

GravatarBeating a tune to a different Drum is easy for warhawks.

So when are they going to name the amputee ward at Bethesda after you Kev? Go there often to help with the soldiers? Maybe you can convince them that their deployment was good. Hell you can even show them how blogging led to paid job and share some of that money you made from it with them.

Chump change will buy back an arm or a leg for sure!

Robertson's story merits this much for being correct- the troops were basically deployed in central staging points. If there were true WMD then an obvious deployment to avoid massive first strike casualties would belie that fact.

Blogging from undisclosed locations, brave people like Drum pushed the envelope of journalist factchecking, to the point that embedded reporters actually didn't even venture outside the Saigon/Bagdhad hilton to pick up whores or miss a round of drinks, since others who ignored obvious logictics already reached the talking points memos.

Which reciruclated disproven story came up first? WMD yellowcake and centrifuge tubes? Mustard at the Turkee farm? Saddam and Al Qaeda? Zarqawei dead three times over and without a leg and with a leg later to behead a torture subcontract whistleblower?

Where are the Republican journalists of merit? We know exactly where they are.

Blogging from undisclosed bunkers, locating the WMD somehwere around Tikrit from their Pentagon briefings. Somehwere North, South, West and East of the DC vicinity they secure happy hour and reveal nothing of importance.

So if God told Bush to bomb them and go to war, and Robertson speaks for God via tax deductible subchapters, what did Pat say when he led AWOL in prayer that day? What words made Bush "FELL GOOD!" about sending other's sons and daughters to war?

You are not asking the right questions. (Forgive me this reference Mr.Ridge and Ass-a Hucthinson) Did pat interpret the burning Bush?

Or was he just a marriage counselor to George and his wif- errrrr NSA Condie Rice?

Don't get too tabloid on us though Kev. Would have to see you get mailed a present like Enquiring minds did. Only neocons had access to cypro on 9-11 anyways.

GravatarIf he's going to be in Florida Saturday, I don't get why he would drag his ass all the way out to Crawford for the night. It sounds like another of those surprises where the plane from Florida takes off in another direction, and he pops up in Kabul or Baghdad on Sunday morning. OTOH, Baghdad is way too dangerous, and going to Afghanistan would just remind people that OBL is still on the loose. So WTF is going on? Maybe he really just wants to relax and ride his bike? Or have a powwow with Rove and the campaign team?

GravatarThoughts on Bush's putative illness: it's interesting to compare W to Reagan in this regard. A psychiatrist once told me that he was shocked that the GOP had allowed Reagan to debate Carter, because it was obvious to this psychiatrist that Reagan had florid Alzheimer's disease just from what could be seen on TV, and he thought there was no way the American public would elect someone how was just shown to be flagrantly demented. Of course, this psychiatrist has been proven wrong at least twice now. But it makes sense that W has some kind of liver problem--the end stage of liver disease makes you susceptible to hepatic encephalopathy, which is sometimes difficult to distinguish from psychosis. That would explain a lot.

very suspicious. What is Rove trying to do, kill Bush?
Bush seems exhausted, depressed and medicated. His approval rating in the new Pew poll is at 44%
...I just don't know what is going on. The weaker Bush looks the stronger Kerry looks.
All the Bush people look very nervous and the Kerry people seem cocky.

Apparently, he never noticed the two buttons on the radio - one to turn it off and one to turn the channel if something offended him.

Man, I couldn't wait to get out of that part of the country and split the first chance I got. Whew...

Nah, it's entertaining as hell, in a "black humor" sort of way. Like in Barrow County, just south of Athens, which is having to pay out the ass - taxpayer money, no less - to support the lawyer who's fighting the evil pinko fag-loving ACLU trying to take the Ten Commandments out of the courthouse. What's really funny is that the TC in question isn't a big ol' stone monument like Roy Moore's, but a framed print-out like you can buy in Christian supply stores.

Gravatarwell, JK is coming to Pueblo, CO this Saturday. As I was at the office handing out tickets, they said Bush is coming back to Colo. Springs. This county shoud be a dead-on, rock-solid, no-doubt sweep for him -- it's not!

He should have never had to come to CO. That he has to is big news! The daughters were just here. The evangelicals, which are a gigantic demographic here, might not let the state turn, but they are gonna have to work for it. It's amazing, exhilirating, and I'm gonna be living on nothing but Rolaids washed down with Maalox the next 2 weeks.

GravatarIs this an omen? Sox rally from the brink (trailing in the 9th in game four!) to take it to the swaggering Yanks. The Yanks have several chances to put them away and can't get the out they need.

Could we really have the Astros and the Sox in the series a week before the election? Boston v. Texas?

Sox will sweep. The Curse of the Bambino was only for the rest of the 20th Century.

GravatarIs this an omen? Sox rally from the brink (trailing in the 9th in game four!) to take it to the swaggering Yanks. The Yanks have several chances to put them away and can't get the out they need.

GravatarMimi, can you get people to stake out the Mayo clinic?

If he's going there, it's cause he needs the clinic itself, not just a doc who could sneak out. Otherwise they'd just fly the doc to Crawford or DC.

GravatarI'm not sure any part of Mississippi could be called enlightened, really-- maybe parts of Jackson & a few spots on the Gulf Coast, and Hattiesburg because it's a college town, but nothing else. I'm from Meridian originally, and that is one depressingly backward town, even if some of the houses are pretty. My relatives there cite locals sighing & saying things like "I'd take a bullet for [GWB]", which seems to me to be a waste of a perfectly good piece of lead... or maybe not.

Gravatarlatts,
Oxford has a pretty healthy "art fag" hipster scene, but more or less, you're on the money. Speaking of Meridian, my dad's aunt Mardale - how's that for a Southern name - still lives there. Very pretty place, but I wouldn't want to live there.

But, let's not forget, Mississippi State has a federal grant to study the effects of marijuana and, apparently, has some of the most potent stumble grass ever concocted.

GravatarThis is classic Rove.

Having Bush take a rest at the very end of the campaign gives the appearance that he is so far ahead he can just chill a bit. This, in turn, makes people think, "well if Bush is winning by that much, I guess I'll vote for him!"

I think Rove calls it the 50-yard rule or something? It was up on Josh Marshall's site a few days ago.

GravatarGood God, man...don't know where you got that idea.

Well, emphasis on 'relatively': not strong klucker country, history of economic developement, comparatively good public school support, has produced some moderate Republicans at a time when they were actually more mainstream than the RW D's, and hell, they were actually doing some good things with AmeriCorps there, before Shrub dried up the funding, per his plan.

And, Rev Wildmon has to live somewhere.

GravatarQuentin,
True, true...I guess you're right, compared to the rest of the state. The difference between Tupelo schools and the schools in Itawamba and Monroe County were startling back when I was in high shcool. And the Klan's never had much hold in that part of the state. I remember a rally in Plantersville once...maybe 30 people showed up, and it was reported as the biggest Klan rally since the '60s. I got a small shot of pride out of that, weird pride though it was.

GravatarYeah, there are some artsy types in Oxford-- hell, I have a fine arts degree (theatre) from Ole Miss, believe it or not -- but the locals & frat boys had them thoroughly squelched when I was there in the late eighties/early nineties. The grad students seemed more counterculture than the undergrads, actually, which was a bit weird. And State could use some good weed IMO-- Starkville really sucks as far as I can remember (some of my cousins went to school there).

Mardale's a good southern name, no doubt, although in Meridian there are a lot more Mayatts, Hodges, Poseys, & Wards (including Sela, LOL). My surname is only pronounced correctly within a hundred-mile radius of the place, too. Of course, I'm actually from the county (Lauderdale), so maybe that doesn't count as Meridian, zip code notwithstanding.

Gravatarlatts,
Mardale's my aunt's first name. My maternal grandmother's name is Clytea - first one of y'all that snickers, I'll pop ya - and I've never, ever ran into anyone with that moniker.

And yeah, Starkville sucks. Redneck frat hell. Most of my graduating class - them that went to college, that is, maybe 25% - went to MSU. Most of 'em didn't last long, neither. Me, I got the hell out of the state.

And I feel your pain about being from the unincorpirated part of a county. There's more people in my apartment complex than there was in my home town. Had to drive 35 miles to go to school. Wouldn't trade it for the world, though. Best part is when it gets dark out there - because there's no street lights or lights from town - brother, it gets dark.

Gravatarhmmm, let's have some fun...

Here's the wild-and-crazy October surprise. Bush is going to his ranch on Saturday because he wants to be with his family for the big announcement:

Bush is off the ticket, and John McCain is taking his place as the Republican candidate for President. He has selected Joe Lieberman as his running-mate, who's switched parties quitely overnight. Bush makes a public statement that he felt "the country needs steady leadership, and I know McCain/Lieberman will provide it".

Not gonna happen, but I do wonder about his going to the ranch. I'd say either it's a cover for him going someplace else (maybe Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.) as many here have postulated, or it's to make some sort of big announcement. My bet's on a big announcement of some sort, but I have no idea what. I just don't think a trip to the war zones would tip the scales enough.

Then again [don tinfoil hat], maybe Washington D.C. isn't a safe place to be this weekend...[remove tinfoil hat]

GravatarWow, that is a good one. We had a Luna & a Jeffrie (female; one of those inexplicably southern gender reversal things), but our best strange name was male: Salathiel, which was almost dumped on my brother .

We had security lights, and some summers bats would flap around eating insects-- my brother would whistle really loud when I was outside & I'd belly-flop to avoid their dives. I guess a lot of my HS class probably graduated from State eventually, but only 8-10% of us went straight to a university instead of the local community college.

GravatarWell, given the way Bush identifies the government with himself ("me, goddamnit! it's all about me!"), I wouldn't be surprised if he had trouble distinguishing between terror attacks on the country and John Kerry's campaign against him - which, I should add, is timed *suspiciously* close to the *ELECTION*.

After all, if Kerry is coming after Bush, that means he's coming after America. L'etat, c'est moi! (that's the phrase, right?)

GravatarThey're going back to visit Laura's library and show off the girls, and, spend time with FAMILY.

together again in the heartland.

Cause FAMILY is the glue that holds AMERICA together.

Can someone tell Teresa, that this would be a good time to chill?

If Kerry, doesn't get fierce in next couple of days, he'll be looking desparate and disjointed if he ramps up next week. Let the "folks" know he's going to help families stay together by helping them stay healthy and alive. The drugs are cheap, the care is available, let's give folks the choices they deserve. He should say, "I don't know why the president misprepresents my health care plan. After Iraq he should be more honest with the American people. It's not good enought to make mistakes, especially with the health of our loved ones....I believe in the private sector. I believe in choices."

What's so hard. Attack, you dumb lugs.

GravatarI know there are charts showing terror alerts fluctuating with poll numbers (an odd coincidence, that), but has anyone done charts showing terror-related chatter and Bush's whereabouts?

Aside from the summer '01 "Get the fuck outta Dodge" national tour (Crawford for five weeks, then Cincinnati and the heartland (hey, Florida counts as "heartland" until they spurn at least *one* Bush) until 9/11), I'm not aware of any patterns, but that one data point sure is a big one.

GravatarStarkville does suck much. However, the ag school makes some great cheese, some of the best I've ever had. And for a while at least, their chem lab was top notch.

And the high school once had a band director who figures in one of those little stories one hears that sticks with you, at least it did with me. He was an excellent trombone player and someone asked him how much he practiced. He replied that he always practiced one hour faithfully every day, unless he was sick. Then he practiced two hours, because when you're sick, you don't get as much accomplished in the same time.

GravatarRegarding the original post, I don't think it's unusual that Bush would take the weekend off, considering that he's slacked off 40% of his tenure. He's doing what he's always done when in trouble: slack off and let daddy's friends "fix" everything.

I wonder how he'll handle things when he loses in two weeks? Let's hope they don't do anything stupid before January...

GravatarOh, and one more thing. Will everybody stop it with all the doomsday talk? What is it with Democrats, anyway? You're all so used to losing that you just assume the whole earth will swallow you up before you actually win.

Please. We've already seen the "October surprises," in the form of Sinclair. That's how Rove has always played. It's not working, and thankfully we're all on top of the voter fraud shams, too.

We are going to win big. Repeat that message ten times before going to bed, and call me in the morning.

Ripoff fucking Republicans, not the very people who support you and your cause.

If you rip me off you are as bad as Bush's gang.

GravatarI still think it's Hepatitis C contracted when he was doing cocaine. The treatment for Hep C is awful- like having a case of flu every weekend. I don't know how far into liver failure he is, thought: his eyes (sclera) don't seem jaundiced from what I can tell. But maybe it's just the pictures I've seen.

GravatarIvy: Actually, people in severe liver failure often aren't jaundiced. But they'll have those spidery vein marks on their skin that some people have noticed on W. And they'll have "bitch tits." And shrunken testicles. Hmmm. Oh, and yeah, interferon, used for treatment of Hep C, can cause suicidal depression and psychosis.

Although everyone here knows that but you, I thought I would be courteous and point that out.

GravatarI want to create a list of potential October Surprise scenarios that we can distribute to blogs and hack journalists in advance of the event, so as to diffuse/diminish the effectiveness of the trick when it happens. Think of it as the tinfoil hat defense.

Feel free to amend and distribute as you see fit:

1) Bush makes "suprise" trip to Iran or Afganistan, either in faux flyboy uniform and codpiece or not, for cynical troop-hugging photo op.

2) Bush retreats to Crawford for "rest" at precisely the moment that terrorists launch "surprise" attack on a major U.S. target (blue state city? White House? The capitol building?) This time, he immediately drops the Pet Goat storybook and launches into action, flying directly back to Washington or wherever ground zero happens to be.

3) Bush "relaxes" in Crawford at precise moment that a Rovian anti-Kerry smear erupts, thereby providing the CIC "plausible deniability" by virtue of physical distance from the eye of the storm.

4) POTUS is airlifted to Crawford for secret medical procedures related to the mysterious ailment (heart disease?, chronic liver condition?, drug addiction?, cognitive disorder?) he seems to be suffering from.

5) Either Osama or al-Zarqawi are suddenly and miraculously "captured," just days before the U.S. election, thereby boosting POTUS's flagging poll numbers.

Campaign wise? With this bunch it's never too late to think dark thoughts. Time of day wise? It's Vegas, we really don't sleep as much here as we did back in Kansas. But other than some of the faces, breasts and penii(?), things are much more real here.

The best time to work on the novel is midnight to 2:00am, then sleep a few hours before work. Fortunately I don't work on the strip or in the gaming industry so less stress is involved.

Peace,

Gravatar1.) The Medical Hypothesis - It makes sense to me that Bush would go to Crawford to have some kind of needed covert medical check done, but then again, doesn't the white house have, like, fully operational surgical theatres in the fuckin closets? I guess the theory is that the movements of doctors and so forth would be more noticable in the panopticon of DC. If this hypothesis were true, I suspect it wouldn't be his heart. I'd expect he's getting some kind of treatment to manage his pre-senile dementia and the potential tests that need to be done are neurological.

2.) The Baghdad Hypothesis - For those of us who think an Iraq trip would be interpretted as a transparently political and pathetic campaign trick, I say you misunderestimate Mr. Rove. Obviously, if he just showed up and handled some frozen turkeys, it'd be pathetic, but they wouldn't do that, now would they? The question we must explore, if were are to truly aspire to tin-hat greatness, is what would they have him do there that WOULD make it a political plus? Personally sit down with Saddam and bitch-slap him? Strap on a codpiece and sidearm to mercilessly hunt down and slay Zarqawi? Seriously, if they're gonna do it, there's gonna be a catch. What is it? Maybe not even Bagdhad. Maybe somewhere else?

Gravatarstrangely enough, the venue he's using in Downingtown is one he's used before (United Sports Center)...and, from experience, we know that when he visits said venue his helicopter flies directly over my mom's house, who lives about 1/2 mile away.

My sister was up on the roof of our mothers' house until 2 a.m. last night with posterboard cut-outs making a giant sign which reads 'Bush Sucks' in the hopes that he'll see it. Ha ha ha.

GravatarI think it's medical reasons, or just rest.

And all of you who are theorizing it's to be out of Washington because something destructive will happen, he could accomplish that with an ordinary campaign day out on the road. No need to raise eyebrows with a trip to the ranch.

GravatarAfter mulling this over, I'm thinking that the Iraq/Afghanistan trip may not be so far-fetched after all. Look at it this way: it's about owning the news cycle. If he flies on Saturday, makes his appearance on Sunday, then what do you think will be dominating the news for the early part of next week, taking the spotlight off Clinton rising from his sickbed to campaign for Kerry? It doesn't matter that it's an obvious, desparate campaign ploy, what matters is that he'll remain front and center in the media. Or else he'll do something equally outlandish, but my guess is this is about countering the Clinton Effect.

GravatarAs smalfish said, it's not his liver, it's his heart. The bulge is a portable defibrillator, see the picture at

(I apologize for my inability to shorten these things.) Note size, shape, location, and the dangling wire. His father suffers from atrial fibrillation, and there is good evidence that it's hereditary. It may or may not be relevant that a history of cocaine use is a contributing factor. You would wear a portable defibrillator between the initial diagnosis and surgery to implant a device permanently (Cheney and GHW Bush both have implanted devices.) Fibrillation can lead to mini-strokes, which would explain the drooping lip and drool during the last debate, and the marked decline in GW Bush's verbal ability. Shortly after the election, Bush will be going in for implantation surgery. Any chance of any one asking McClellan et al. about this?

GravatarAm I imagining things or didn't he take a similar vacation late into his first campaign? Just before or after the trip to CA?

GravatarLots of amusing scenarios here. Eschatonians certainly have wonderfully creative imaginations!

In all seriosness, I don't think there's anything to Mr. Bush's retreat to the ranch other than he's EXHAUSTED!

Remember, this man has never had to "work hard" in his life. The K/E campaign and the Democratic Party have pushed him, challenged him, pounded him, and hounded him for months. He's not used to adversity, and it shows. K/E are wearing him down.

GravatarSeriously, the trip to Iraq won't be a PR move. It'll just be another vote-getting rally to fire up the base.

They know they need every possible military vote to have a chance with this thing. They're not entirely stupid. They see the same polls we do.

A trip to Iraq is just another stump speech to the base (double entendre there) and a clear sign of desperation.

GravatarNo matter what the surprise, lots of voters have ALREADY voted!!

Austin is having record turnouts for early voting.

I"m wondering if this surprise trip might be right....although Bush might be just getting rejuvenated.

Personally, I kind of doubt that a trip to Iraq or Afghanistan would sway the few undecided voters that there are. IF those voters really were moved by Bush on those issues, wouldn't they already be voting for him??

Plus it would use up a lot of his campaigning time.

One thing I would also like to point out...a lot of the reason this race is so close is also because Rove has miscalculated on a whole lot of things--the anger of voters, the disenfranchisement people feel, the idea that people don't care about the deficit, the amount of money Democrats could raise, etc, etc, etc....

Maybe in their insular world they lose track of the real one.

GravatarSOmething's up. But why would there be a need to be secretive about going to Afghanistan? He needs at least a superficial excuse for not telling the country in advance that he was leaving. Besides, are they even done counting votes in Afghanistan?

Going to Iraq would be viewed as a stunt. Again, there is no pretext for doing it.

They are fucking whores. I hope JK has his response planned.

GravatarOctober Surprise This Weekend

He is not going to Crawford -- he is heading for Iraq or Afghanistn. It is time for them to take Osama out of that walk-in freezer at the Baghdad airport or in Kabul and thaw him out so Bush can pose for pictures with his "trophy."

If he leaves Pennsylvania on Friday afternoon, he can arrive in either place and be ready for "Breaking News" on all the networks immediately before the World Series begins.

One of the Air Force One planes might go to Texas, but you can bet your ass Bush will not be on that one. They will be running decoys and distractors all over the place, while Dubya slips off to Iraq or Afghanistn for the October Surprise.

Someone needs to check Osama's body for freezer burns -- he has probably been on ice for two years or more.

GravatarDamn! This picture I've never seen before. Incredible! Thanks Salon and VinnyD.

Imagine this - Bush goes to Iraq on a Sunday just to pray with the troops.

...cause it's hard work.

Gravataryup....the trip to Baghdad or Kabul would indeed be pathetic, but the mouth-breathing public and the easily aroused media corpse would go wild!!!
You all now that's why he's going to Crawford 10 days before the election...so he can do that "sneak out of town" thing again that the media got all moist and juicy over.

GravatarDubya is finally going home to Crawford, because in his bones he knows it's already over...

Stay there, you Emperor's Idiot Son!

GravatarBush has also, according to recent Japanese media, been ignoring his physical exams and has given up his normal jogs. Hmmm, mini-stroke during the third debate?

One can only hope...

GravatarHe is going to Crawford, because he wants to create the appearance that he is confident of victory and doesn't need to go all out like his opponent. He did the exact same thing in 2000, and he thinks w/ a surprising amount of superstition (for such a 'christian' fellow) that he has to repeat the same behavior in order to win this time.

GravatarBush has changed his plans. He'll now be in Alamogordo, N.M., on Sunday:

Gravatarhe'd better get cracking on his october surprise!
