I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

first thrice

Bin Laden is located, says 9/11 panelist

OT: Putin is signing up to the Kyoto treaty.

Flip-flop? Certainly puts pressure on the US.

Gravatar"There is an American presence in the area, but we can't just send in troops. If we did, we could have another Vietnam, and the United States cannot afford that right now."

oh yeah, like that's enough to stop you guys! I bet those nukes give you some pause, though...

wish I lived in a battleground state so's I could pamphlet this weekend. Oh well, looks like the phone bank for me.

GravatarJesse Ventura for Kerry, see TPM.

((((Aah, the incumbency rule)))) !!!

GravatarPosted this before, but it's too good
not to repeat.

Q: What's the difference between
Vietnam and Irag?

A: Bush had a plan to get out of
Vietnam.

GravatarOT: "O'Reilly, who is married with two children" - from Yahoo News

He's a polygamist with underage wives?

GravatarClever, clever Hermes:

In the interview, Lehman noted, "There is an American presence in the area, but we can't just send in troops. If we did, we could have another Vietnam, and the United States cannot afford that right now."

Care to explain why we can't afford that, troll-boy?

Thought not. I'll tell you anyway, though. First, because our troops are tied down in a pointless war of choice in Iraq. Second, because our "ally" Musharraf's life hangs by a thread, and if he goes down, the country'll instantly be a Taliban-style theocracy with atomic weapons. And short of dropping nukes ourselves, we won't be able to do a thing about it, thanks to our overextended military. And what India would do is anybody's guess.

They don't call Bush the "disaster monkey" for nothing.

GravatarKerry caught hitting on women in Milwaukee!

Here are some of his pickup lines:
And I think that's one of the biggest differences between George Bush and us. We believe that the middle class is the backbone of this country -- and that hard-working women are the bedrock of our families.
...
Imagine if the roughly 38 million women who didn't vote in 2000 came together and said: we need a president who's on our side. Imagine 38 million votes for good jobs...38 million votes for quality health care ... 38 million votes for real retirement security ... 38 million votes for a better life for our children.
...
So I ask you to give John Edwards and me the chance to fight for you. Give me the chance to make you proud. Give me the chance to lift our country up. Give me the chance to make our country strong. Over the months and miles of this effort, I have met so many of you, listened to you and learned from you. I am honored and humbled to carry your hopes with me in this campaign. And I pledge to you that every day as president, I will take your words, your stories, and your faith in America with me to the Oval Office.

Gravatarbo: no, that'd be "married to two children". Tempting as it may sound...

Gravatar"Another Vietnam" should have been "another Iraq".

Quagmire.

GravatarHeh.

My opponents think they can use the power of the Internets to defeat me.

GravatarA little help...

I know this isn't exactly relevant to the topic at hand, but I'm trying to find out how I can volunteer my driving services to my nearest battleground state. (I live on Long Island, so probably PA) I'm not comfortable knocking on doors or making phone calls (otherwise known as bothering people) but giving rides to people who legitimately want to vote (preferably Democratic) is right up my alley. About a month ago, I remember seeing a website devoted entirely to this purpose but now I can't find it. Can anyone give me some advice?

GravatarHoly Bush Boom, Batman!

The Dow is down 100 pts.

GravatarAugie, it's drivingvotes.org (check out my home page)

GravatarCan I get me a huntin' license here??

GravatarI'm waiting for the cats.

GravatarHas anyone else noticed that the CNN and MSNBC websites have been running essentially the same primary headline for the past week or so.

Every day, like clockwork, when you look at their website, the headlines blare some variation of "Bush, Kerry attack each other."

Sometimes they mention a particular point on which the are attacking each other in the headline, but for the most part the coverage on these websites is embodied in their headlines, which can be summarized as "Bush and Kerry are opponents in a presidential campaign who disagree with one another."

Laziest, most disgraceful journalism ever.

GravatarWho among us doesn't like a bit of freelance activism?

Gravatarreporting isn't journalism.

GravatarOther ways to pampheteer:

Download this Petition Against Bush and Cheney and print and post to United Methodist Churches in your area.

Go to This Site and download and print the Petition from Asian Intellectuals and post to Chinese/Korean/Indian/etc. markets or meeting places in your area.

Printing/posting first page with "for more information..." would suffice, I would think.

GravatarSKILLS, I guess so, but then again that's what an election is about, no?

GravatarNever met a tax cut I didn't sign...our leader- hard at work. From John McCain " the worst example of the influence of special interests that I have ever seen."

Gravatar"He is not a wealthy man," Lehman said. "We ran that information into the ground, and discovered he only receives about $1 million a year from his family's fortune. The rest of what he gets comes from radical sympathizers."

Why are we not cutting off even that source of funding if we know about it? Oh, yeah...Bush Sr. is in business with them.

BTW I just early voted. Ahh...Democracy feels good. And there was a line...in the middle of the afternoon...at Randalls.

GravatarSo, maybe Hermes isn't a troll? Maybe what he's tipping us to is the October surprise? As in, we know where he (have known for some time) and the Bushistas roll up and grab him on, oh, Oct.31?

Gravatarcommenting on "Bin Laden found"
up thread.

Lehman says "Bin Laden is not a wealthy man, He only receives a million dollars a year from his family" - Come again-Huh?
Wow-then in comparison, I'm not even middle class-I'm dirt poor!

GravatarGuess who wasn't fired!

FRANK LUNTZ coming up next on MSNBC!
FRANK LUNTZ coming up next on MSNBC!
FRANK LUNTZ coming up next on MSNBC!
FRANK LUNTZ coming up next on MSNBC!
FRANK LUNTZ coming up next on MSNBC!

Partisan hack in objective clothes Franbk Luntz returns to MSNBC @~3:35pm 22 October 2004!!!

Gravatar"He is not a wealthy man," Lehman said. "We ran that information into the ground, and discovered he only receives about $1 million a year from his family's fortune. The rest of what he gets comes from radical sympathizers."

Them cave condos in South Wiziristan (sp?) are no match for Midtown Manhattan prices, evidently, if that's hardly anything.

Gravatar"There is an American presence in the area, but we can't just send in troops. If we did, we could have another Vietnam, and the United States cannot afford that right now."

speaking of affording casualties, when was the last time a soldier was killed in iraq? like a week? is this supposed to be a coincidence that this is the longest time we've gone without a fatality and we also, surprise surprise, are so close to the election?

GravatarIS THE NRA BEHIND "STOLEN HONOR"?

Gravatarwastelandusa-Maybe you should have said "the last time a casualty was reported"?

GravatarAnother 'antidote to F 9/11' joins the bandwagon. Yawn.

GravatarJohn Gillnitz, is whoever-it-is referring to OBL really, or (snidely!) to Kerry?

GravatarBin Laden is located, says 9/11 panelist

"That is a region filled with Taliban and al-Qaida members," he said, acknowledging that Pakistan's security services also are filled with many who agree with bin Laden's beliefs and would aid him if U.S. Special Forces entered the region.

Um, and tell me again why we invaded Iraq?

And don't we have some big fancy bombs for stuff like this?

Gravatarspinoza

Can I ask, Is 'Spinoza' named after the great philospher. I just read "ethics".

Gravatarwtfwjd-Fancy bombs? Is that like a bomb in a tux?

GravatarJesse Ventura for Kerry

Does this guy get up each morning and flip a coin to decide if he will be reasonable that day?

Gravatarwtfwjd, we would if we could aim them straight. The US military trumpets its high-techness, and yet in the battlefield seems to have as many 'bugs' as Windows, IMHO (those who know, write).

GravatarMeme-don't tell Ann Coulter, but yes.

GravatarI was wondering: have any notable currently-in-office Repugs endorsed Kerry?

Gravatarjohn kerry will be the next u.s. president. period.

george bush has served his purpose and is no longer needed.

there will be no "october suprise".

the election will not be stolen by the republicans. the "interest" will not permit it and while bush may be in the dark, cheney is not as he is working on behalf of the "interests".

one finally point, if bush is re-elected in a very close or ambiguous vote there will be some social unrest. for this reason a continuation of the bush regime is in no one's interest

Gravatarwtfwjd,

I ask the same questions, If it is not officially a part of Pakistan, why can't we bomb it? How big is the region? Is it just Al-qaeda members there, or is there a lot of
villages? You think it would be justified, but Iraq was not justified, didn't we occupy them?

Gravatarcruelruler, whose 'interest', out of interest? The public interest, or the corporate one?

GravatarI'm not saying bombing this part of Afghanistan is the right thing to do, but given this administration's disrepect for international law and civilian casualties, and the fact that Pakistan, birthplace of the Taliban, is as close as any country comes to state sponsorship of Al Qaeda, it's a little surprising if Lehman is right, that we wouldn't take action. Two theories come to mind:

- No oil there
- We only bomb countries that don't have nukes yet (Note to rogue states: better get em while you can!)
- We are overextended in Iraq

Whichever one you pick, it's proof that this Administration has no idea how to fight a war on terror.

GravatarRE: Bin Laden is located

A few questions: Is A MILLION DOLLARS(!) not a lot of money? If the UAE and Saudi Arabia are actually supporting Bin Laden, why don't we attack them? I actually know the answers to these questions, but it's all just so crazy.

CROSSBLOGGER!

GravatarSpinoza-His quote of "people will always prefer Tyranny over chaos"
Seems appropriate to the Iraq situation.

GravatarBush to spend two nights "at Crawford" this weekend

GravatarMax - interesting blog you have there, is there any way of taming your colleague MightMakesRight?

GravatarOT-Wrigley has patented a chewing gum that enables erections (and gives you fresh breath). See HOMEPAGE

GravatarBush to spend two nights "at Crawford" this weekend -Boston.com / Red Carpet Kabul

So, where's he really going to go, to Iraq to support the troops he's trying to get killed or to Afghanistan to congratulate Karzai on his election?

Either way, SUUUURRRR-PRRRRIIISE!

GravatarForgive the OT, but you have to see what the St Louis Archdiocese is doing. Unbelievable.

The Ward Report

GravatarDon: well, I guess people can take this message or leave it, but at the same time it does call the impartiality of the Church into question.

Gravatarin re SL catholic pinheads:
Idiotic catholic church. It's as bad as the Boston and NYC dioceses supporting Vietnam. "We're against abortion, we're against stem cell research. But we are pretty tolerant of our priests buggering children in the parish."

Gravatarwastelandia:
Monday, here.

Military family loses son in Iraq
4th-generation GI from Mesa

Cory Schouten
The Arizona Republic
Oct. 22, 2004 12:00 AM

A few hours before he was found dead in Iraq, Army Spc. Andrew C. Ehrlich sent an e-mail to his parents in Mesa.

He told them he was hoping to find a bootleg copy of the movie Team America: World Police. He had received and was looking over an absentee ballot for the Nov. 2 election. And could they send some more canned salmon, which had become a favorite, in their next care package?

His tastes were sometimes unpredictable, but Ehrlich always knew he wanted to join the Army. ....

GravatarThe Dow is down 100 pts.

ABC radio top of the hour news had a little blurb a couple of weeks ago that when the stock market is going down leading into a presidential election, the incumbent always loses.

For what it's worth.

GravatarI'm going to have the West Nile before mosquito season is over. I have never been so bit-up. And since I've shaved my head, one even bit me on my head.

GravatarRe: Ventura. His politics are the politics of self-interest. He was Governor Me. Except for being the strongest voice for public transit in MN while he was governor.

Re: OBL. "We know where he is. He is in the area around Baghdad and Tikrit, north, west, south, and east somewhat."

GravatarSo let me get this straight. Pakistan not only shared nuclear secrets with Iran and North Korea, but it is also harboring Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. But through some twisted neocon Bush logic, the threat was Saddam, and Pakistan is our ally in the war on terror.

Can you fucking imagine if Clinton did this!

GravatarIcog, where are you? Here in NY, the skeeters seem to have split (although a WN+ dead bird was found in Wappingers - 1st on of the year!).

GravatarIcog, where are you? Here in NY, the skeeters seem to have split (although a WN+ dead bird was found in Wappingers - 1st on of the year!).
MasterD

I'm in Louisiana. Our mosquito season doesn't end until late Nov or early Dec. Anyway, they're really bad this year because we've had so much rain--about a foot over normal. I have a huge allergic reaction to them like being stung by a wasp.

GravatarIncog, ouchie. I recall being bit a few times in DC, but like MasterD I thought the mozzies'd left.

If you are against DEET on principle (I know I am), try and find some spray or candle or wristband containing citronella. Stinks to high heaven, but the mozzies like it even less.

GravatarI'm guessing the extra rain is from hurricane season in LA, right?

GravatarThe Dow is down 100 pts.

ABC radio top of the hour news had a little blurb a couple of weeks ago that when the stock market is going down leading into a presidential election, the incumbent always loses.

For what it's worth.
Incognito

It's a chicken and egg thing.

Will the market decline result in the incumbent's defeat, or is the market in decline because Wall Street expects a corporate-friendly incumbent to lose?

Actually, I think the market is down because oil prices keep setting new records.

I'll wager that the administration's policy on Pakistan is still rooted in outdated cold war logic. Pakistan was the loyal U.S. ally back then while India was part of the nonaligned movement, and the U.S. (for some reason I have no clue why since India is the world's largest democracy for chrissake) decided to stick with Pakistan for better of for worse. Despite it being a fuckin mess and a being a breeding ground for terrorists.

GravatarIf you are against DEET on principle (I know I am), try and find some spray or candle or wristband containing citronella. Stinks to high heaven, but the mozzies like it even less.
Anonymous

I am against DEET and how do we know citronella isn't just as dangerous?

GravatarPamphleteering on the fly...
I'm out of town at a conference this week, and my connecting flight was delayed in Philadelphia Tuesday. As I waited in the terminal, I realized I was in Atrios country, which made me realize I was in Hoeffel country. So I made a "Hoeffel for Senate" sign and propped it up on the seat next to me. Several people came by to say hi and "Go Joe," and they were amazed to find out I'm from Vermont. Ah, the power of the blogs...

GravatarI hate smelling like chemicals.

GravatarI hate smelling like chemicals.
Incognito-You presumably mean certain kinds of chemicals. Got to stand up for the pheromones.

GravatarWell, I guess they're going to behead the woman in Iraq. There's something even more mortifying about beheading a woman than a man.

GravatarIncog -

Take a laundry softener sheet and rub it on. skeeters don't like that stuff. Seriously.

GravatarTake a laundry softener sheet and rub it on. skeeters don't like that stuff. Seriously.
'sconi

That has chemicals in it, too. I don't put any chemicals on me or in my food. We're all subject to a huge list of chemicals everyday whose effects we don't understand because chemical companies aren't required to study their long-term effects. So I try to limit it as much as possible.

GravatarWell, I just posted my own impression of the new Bush "Peter & the Wolf" campaign:

http://juliusblog.blogspot.com

Enjoy!

GravatarJulius -nice work!

GravatarWOW! Speaking of posters .. look at this poster this right wing wacko made!! OMG!! They believe this stuff!!!

http://unnachgiebig.blogspot.com/

lololol. Too funny.

GravatarWatching Crossfire on CNN....

Repuke Guest Flack: "Bush campaign has released its most powerful ad to date."

Roll Wolves ad.

When they come back from the Wolves ad, the audience is laughing -- LAUGHING. The Repuke Guest Flack looks startled and confused for a moment and then presses ahead with the script: "This ad has been ready for weeks, but it tested so powerfully with focus groups that they held it back til now."

ROFLMAO

Paul Begala continually refers to the ad as the "Puppies" ad.

And now they have just run the "No Weapons of Mass Destruction here" ad. Very powerful. No one laughed at that one.

GravatarWoW. Indeed. So powerful. Totally. Dude. Man. Bush Lied and People Died. Totally. Man.

GravatarThe wolf ad just looked like a bunch of beautiful wolves frolicking in a beautiful woodland setting. That's all I got out of it.

GravatarIncognito, I hear Avon's Skin So Soft works too.

GravatarDamn Wackos

GravatarWow. I can't believe this guy's poster. he is serious:

http://unnachgiebig.blogspot.com/

Is there where they are going???

GravatarRe mosquito's - Go get some Cutters mosquito spray you put on the end of your hose at Home Depot or Lowes for about nine bucks. Kills about 95% of them for two weeks. I was getting bitten about once a minute before, now I can sit outside for 30 minutes or so and maybe get one bite. Spray liberally under all of your eaves, plants, etc. One bottle is good for about two applications.

GravatarI would counter the Wolf ad with one called Jackals- a pack of republicans down on all fours crawling around the 9/11 ground zero sniffing and howling for dead carcasses to exploit...

GravatarDoesnt sound as though it needs much of a counter. Seriously, if you are undecided, which is going to motivate you to vote, wolves or evidence of unbelievable callousness.

GravatarIf folks came out of church and found a flyer which just read

GOOGLE "BUSH REV MOON"

Kerry would win by 8+ points.

Gravatar23456 -

Did you read the rest of Mr. Unnachgiebig's posts? (Even the name is more of his posturing in German.)

He's certifiable, a braggart, weird combo of "values" and lechery, a bully with a self-destructive temper (destroys his computer when he gets impatient with it), etc.

And note that he gets no comments. No surprise there.

GravatarThe Nation has a neat list of talking points if you want to annoy your right-wing friends.
