I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

Republican-funded firm accused of voter fraud is on the front page over at Yahoo.

Finally, this is making some news.

GravatarI say we just say Florida doesn't count...neither side gets the votes.

If it's good enough for Don Rumsfeld's version of Iraq, it's good enough for us.

GravatarGee whiz, they don't have time to report on silly trivia like this -- someone's hurting Okrent's feelings!

GravatarIts time that Bush stopped exporting democracy and started importing it.

GravatarAlso on CNN: this is getting around. The CNN article said some people in FL were claiming that in signing "petitions" they had inadvertently given their signatures to forgers who were knocking together fake voter registration forms. Blech.

GravatarWhen it's white people's votes being trashed.

GravatarHere is our answer to atrios' question:

Never. We will never report this because it would hurt our own agendas.

Therefore, the public will NEVER know and there's NOTHING you can do about it.

We and the people we represent OWN you . . . and will do so forever!!!

(Sinister horror movie laugh) HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA . . .

GravatarI know its the media's job to report this kind of activity, but who is charged with stopping it? Does local law enforcement have any role in preventing this kind of voter fraud? Who is responsible for enforcing these laws?

GravatarWhat media, atrios? Not the SCLM for sure! ..

GravatarDavid is right: when greedy stupid white people have their votes trashed.

God, HOW CAN THE FUCKING MEDIA SLEEP?

GravatarFASCISM

GravatarThat's a rhetorical question and you know it, A.

GravatarI'm thinking a loaded double-barreled shotgun might act as a deterrent to someone knocking at my door trying to steal my vote.

Gravatarwatertiger: not if it's over the phone.

GravatarWhat annoys me about the fraud is how white people could possibly go walking around poor minority neighborhoods, ripping people off, and not get whacked?
Unless those doing the jobs are matched up with the racial makeup of the neighborhoods in question?

MYOB'
.

GravatarRe the Yahoo! story:

"This is all about making accusations," Sproul said Thursday. "They allege fraud where none exists and get the media to cover it."

Now who are you gonna believe? A bunch of Democrats or a guy who makes an "honest" living registering voters via a program that--only coincidentally, of course--has the exact same name as an organization that does truly non-partisan voter outreach. Nope, no fraud at all going on there. Tarring and feathering is way too good for that fucking traitor Nathan Sproul.

GravatarAnon,

what if I tell them on the phone that I'm pointing a gun at the receiver?

Ach, I can take no more. Atrios, please, I beg of you! Bring on the kitties!

GravatarI'm a wussy Democrat non-gun person myself, but I'd try to clandestinely call the police and stall them. These people belong in jail anyway, but it might also serve as a deterrent for aspiring but chicken-shit future potential fascists.

Gravatarwatertiger: there are some very cuuute ferrets at first-draft.com if you can't wait for some fluffiness..

GravatarMYOB

Check out "Bowling for Columbine"

You racist fuck

GravatarMYOB, you're on the right side but you are really mistaken if you think that white people can't walk around in predominantly African American neighborhoods and even knock on doors. You can go to those places, eat in the restaurants, check out the clubs - it's okay, really.

I am not black but I worked as a community organizer in North Philly and also in a poor white neighborhood called Fishtown. I only felt unsafe, and unwelcome, in Fishtown.

Back on topic, the whore media will never come out and say this because telling the truth would not be fair and balanced.

The Republicans stole the election of 2000, and they stole the mid-term election.

The administration used a systematic campaign of lies, aided and abetted by the corporate media, to start an insane, criminal war.

The administration ignored repeated, urgent warnings about the likelihood of an attack leading up to 9/11, then they used the attack which resulted from their own negligence and incompetence (at best) to attack the bill of rights and, in fact, to fundamentally attack democracy.

They are stealing from the poor to give to the rich.

They have brought disgrace and shame to the United States and left us with a horrific mess which will take decades to clean up, economically, environmentally, militarily, diplomatically.

They despise democracy, they despise the people, and they despise the United States which is nothing to them but a means to an end - their own enrichment and aggrandizement.

That is the truth. But of course we will never see it on television or read it in the New York Times.

We are drowning in a sea of lies.

Gravatarif we lose this election.

There will be a revolution.

GravatarRemember when Bush started yapping about wanting to be Dictator? Do y'all think that was just idle bullshit, off the cuff thinking? That should have flagged him and his brownshirts fucking FOREVER. He and his anti-democracy hellhounds believe in authoritarian rule (with a conveniently mentally impaired figurehead and only Bush is sufficiently retarded to not realize HE'S the dummy and Cheneys arm is greased and wedged right up in there...). This isn't just some overly energetic wingnuts collecting absentee ballots and burning registration forms out there - these folks want to ELIMINATE the vote completely.

What really puzzles me is why people are surprised about the indifference of the media. Are you folks just plain stupid? How many times can you claim to be surprised and astounded that multi-billion dollar corporations might act in their own short term self interest? Y'all startin' to sound like a 45 year old barfly on her back yelling out "but honey, it's my FIRST TIME!"

GravatarJust a general heads-up:

If ANYONE comes to your house claiming to be from your local elections office, invite them in and hold them there until police arrive.

They are committing a crime by pretending to represent an election official, and it is your responsibility as a citizen to restrain them by whatever means you have available until the proper authorities can come and put them in custody.

I don't expect any such chicanery in my neighborhood, but I have a shotgun available for any such incident. Anyone coming to my house, intending to take away a ballot with my name on it, had better be prepared to hang around for a while. They won't be leaving until the cops arrive to take them to jail.

GravatarP.S.

I still love ya, you racist fuck

GravatarI am disappointed with all the quotes that say "when its white people." Get real -- these issues are not based on ethnicity or majority/minority status. Votes will be stolen by those that have the power to get away with it -- its how this administration got into power and it would be foolish to expect them to "honor" an honest election. The issues are socio-economic, not racial. There is no way that the smirking chimp and his band of theives can win honest elections on their record -- their agenda is simply to extreme for the typical american. They have to steal to get elected at all. When will well-meaning, concerned citizens start talking about the REAL issues that divide this nation and not all of the bullsh#t!

GravatarAnon,

That is so cute! So . . . bubbly!

You do know that it is illegal to own ferrets here in NYC? Guess Ghouliani didn't want them weaseling in on his erritory.

Gravatarum..."territory."

but I kinda like "error-tory."

GravatarI didn't think the media cared about anyone or anything except for themselves.

(Except for Jon Stewart, of course.)

GravatarAnswer: When they start throwing Republican votes in the garbage.

GravatarI'm just not sure I can take anymore bad news.
Obviously, the right do not play fair.
And we on the left are mistaken to think be can beat them by playing fair.
But given how late it is in the game, our only option is to GOTV ... they cannot supress millions of new voters. The onoly way they can win, by cheating, is to shave off votes at the margins. But if there is a large enough turn out they will not be able to shave that many votes.
Well, at least I hope so.

GravatarI know a four-letter acronym that could take care of all of this.

But I won't repeat it.

GravatarAnyone know of any websites that are cataloging all these cases of voter disenfranchisement? There must be someone acting as a clearinghouse this time around.

GravatarWhen is the media going to start caring that there is clearly a well-organized nationwide effort to throw votes in the garbage?
If 2000 is any indication... Never?

BTW, Surprise!

GravatarI found one the other day that focuses only on over-registration (i.e. alleged Democratic, pseudo-fraud).

If you check out Air America Radio, Mike Papantonio (sp?) has been following Republican fraud cases for Unfiltered, (the more serious cases because they involve preventing people from casting legitimate ballots).

GravatarInvite them in.

Shake their hand.

Then cut it off with a cleaver.

...

It only takes one.

.

GravatarGMT - I am just falling in love with you.

Time to go buy a cleaver...

GravatarI say we just say Florida doesn't count...neither side gets the votes.

If neither side gets the votes, than that makes it an even better chance that no one gets enough to avoid throwing the election to the House.

GravatarIf ANYONE comes to your house claiming to be from your local elections office, invite them in and hold them there until police arrive.

Well, call the police at any rate, but...

They are committing a crime by pretending to represent an election official, and it is your responsibility as a citizen to restrain them by whatever means you have available until the proper authorities can come and put them in custody.

Whether you have the right to forcibly apprehend criminals depends on your states citizens arrest laws -- some states, IIRC, prohibit it outright, outside of restraining some in immediate defense against a direct physical threat. It may even be "kidnapping" or "false imprisonment", which are very serious felonies.

GravatarWhere's the real outrage?

If somebody tries to steal my absentee ballot through fraud I will beat his ass within an inch of his life, steal his wallet, track down his home, spray paint his dog, insult his family and then burn his house to the fucking ground.

They're going to steal this election and "there's nothing we can do but GOTV"!?!?

Hey, if they won't let us win in an election we should see what the outcome of a god damned WAR would be! Fix this bitches...

GravatarWhat annoys me about the fraud is how white people could possibly go walking around poor minority neighborhoods, ripping people off, and not get whacked?
Unless those doing the jobs are matched up with the racial makeup of the neighborhoods in question?\
-myob

Umm, the fact of poor neighborhoods themselves is an off-ripping. In numerous ways. Of course white guys aren't dumb enough to do it in person.

GravatarOh, please. You really expect them to take notice in any meaningful way? They'll gloss over it and forget it. Think Crossfire, except without the whining and wanking still going on. They've got better things to do. Like spin.

That's what happens when the administration calls people who disagree "unpatriotic"--people forget what America's core values really are.

I mean, how sad can you get--they had four years to fix the screwups of the last presidential election. So apparently they fixed those and created new ones. It's like dumping sand into a sieve--something's always escaping.

GravatarAnneW,

Daily Kos has the 2004 Voter Fraud Clearinghouse

One of the diarists over there also has a website on the subject. I'm looking for the URL.

GravatarFound it:

vote.2004.eriposte.com

She also has a good response to accusations of voter fraud against ACORN.

GravatarIt's not the same kind of voter fraud, but speaking of nation-wide...here in southern California, about six weeks ago flyers went up at the community college where I teach. They read, "Help Arnold terminate the girly-men." Then it explained you could make $9/hr registering Republicans and gave a phone number to call. I remember thinking it odd--how could you register voters from just one party? Now I'm wondering what exactly was involved and wishing I'd copied down the phone number. Of course, the flyers aren't there anymore. They were taken down after someone crossed out "the girly-men" and wrote in "your education."

GravatarI just got an email from someone who says she reads Eschaton but doesn't post. Anyway, according to her, she has seen the Pelosi documentary and in it, Pete King, a Republican answers Pelosi's question about the election this way: "The election is over. It's all over but the counting, and we control the counting."

Anyone else seen Pelosi's documentary? Can anyone confirm this?

GravatarI mean, how sad can you get--they had four years to fix the screwups of the last presidential election...............................Nothing is done unless vats of blood run in the street.

Gravatarnotch - they also had 4 years to fix the problems with absentee voting by the military and didn't do anything there until the absolute 11th hour, too.

Obviously, those in power - the Repugs - had no interest in making the election process fair and free and safe. Obviously.

GravatarI'm a wussy Democrat non-gun person myself, but I'd try to clandestinely call the police and stall them. These people belong in jail anyway, but it might also serve as a deterrent for aspiring but chicken-shit future potential fascists.

GravatarWhen is the media going to start caring that there is clearly a well-organized nationwide effort to throw votes in the garbage?

When we start smashing their fucking empty skulls in with cobblestones, is my guess. I doubt anything else could rouse them from their vegetable torpor.

GravatarPossible silver lining???

This voter fraud stuff is terrible, no question. But it helps to quell may fears a bit about something even worse - an out-and-out attempt to fix the election using the electronic voting machines in Florida.

Look at it this way - if you already knew that the fix was in with regard to the machines, why would you take the unnecessary risk involved in ALSO going out and trying to steal people's absentee ballots out of their hands. Absentee ballots are a small enough component of the total vote that if the electronic voting machines are rigged, then the whole effort of stealing absentee ballots would be pointless.

Is this analysis crazy? Am I a hopeless optimist?

GravatarPhilalethes - No, the media would rather whine about getting mean emails from liberals.

GravatarWhen will we bring regime change to Tallahassee?

Brownshirts? Fuck yes, but tailored, and with nice button-down collars...

I tell you friends, I knew the future, in detail, on Nov. 22, 2000.

GravatarI don't see the stealing of absentee ballots in FL as be any kind of "silver lining". Those will be the only ones that will be safe from the kind of bookeeping fraud they have planned for the electronic votes.

GravatarSince 2000, no one in their right mind shlould, would, or could believe in the fundamental integrity of the US national franchise. Since Bush 43, US elections are an on-going joke, no more valid than those held in puppet states and banana republics. There is only one piece of evidence that I will ever accept that the 2004 elections (if we are permitted to vote) were honest: Bush's defeat...

No one should acknowledge any other outcome of the integrity of the process...

Gravatar"I am disappointed with all the quotes that say "when its white people." Get real -- these issues are not based on ethnicity or majority/minority status. ...
Joe | Email | Homepage | 10.22.04 - 4:42 pm | #"

joe, joe, joe. what world are you living in that you think that race has nothing to do with disenfranchisement? surely the world of a white man, who hasn't been erroneously labeled a felon and kicked off voter rolls; who hasn't been told to produce 3 forms of ID before being allowed to vote; who hasn't had to stand in line for hours to vote due to the disproportionate underfunding of polling sites in
communities of color.

i don't think we are fundmentally on opposite sides of the issue, but i cannot let such a naive comment stand...

GravatarThere was reports of this same thing taking place in the Dayton, Ohio area too.

Here.

GravatarThanks Tena!

I'm the one who sent Tena an email about Rep. Pete King (R - New York) and his comments to Alexandra Pelosi in her latest documentary that aired on HBO 10/11 and repeats through out this month and November.

Ms. Pelosi went to a summer 2003 White House lawn bbq and you can hear her ask Porter Goss about Bush's chances in 2004 and Goss responds ( paraphrasing) that "he's unbeatable, the most unbeatable we've had in awhile." Then the film shows President Bush in a blue shirt talking to supporters(?) and saying something about the Panhandle or someone in the Panhandle? Then Pete King's voice is heard and then he is shown saying this:

King: "It's already over. The election's over. We won."

Pelosi: "How do you know that?"

King: "It's all over but the counting..and we'll take care of the counting."

Someone (no, not me!) sent Tom Tomorrow an email about his and he posted the email on 10/13/04.

GravatarKerry is going to win Florida just like Gore did. Only in a reality-based way. Jeb's been prepping for 4 years.

Wisconsin and Minnesota are the real battlegrounds, now. This is so off the common wisdom that it's spreading very slowly. But it's true.

Bush knows Ohio's gone. He's just staying in gaffe or October Surprise range. If he didn't know he had Florida, he'd be working harder (See Chris Suellentrop on Bush slack-off on slate today)

Wisconsin and Minnesota both have same day registration. Get the celebs there Nov 2.

Here's the math: Kerry takes OH, PA, NJ, MI, NM the northeast, the northwest. He's at 252. Bush takes CO, IA and the red leaners, he's at 261. WI and MN are 10 each. Bush just needs one. Kerry two. Unless Iowa goes blue. Or Clinton works hard in Arkansas. Then Bush needs both WI and MN.
Both Edwards might have made a difference in Iowa. (And Elizabeth has been brilliant in WV, I'd get her a room there.)

But same day registration in the northland is our key to victory now.

GravatarThe question is what do you do when your democracy is turning into something closer to a very corrupt state run by one single corrupt party?

I mean, lets just admit the obvious and work from there. The corruption is really that deep. Hopefully, our occasional token wins in the media will continue to offset most of the damage.

GravatarRe "spray paint his dog": Go ahead and do all that other stuff, but leave his dog alone.

GravatarThree words about Bush: Where's the charm?

I mean, the Beavis smirk, the phony smile because he knows he's lying, the panicked look when asked a simple question, and the forward hunch and head-bob when he comes up with what he thinks will pass for an answer.

Re Kerry: Right-wing radio (you should listen) puts him down because he can speak French, and he wind-surfs and snowboards. Yeah, knowing a foreign language is a bad thing. The guy is 60 years old and he wind-surfs? I guess physical fitness is also a bad thing. Chain-sawing brush is much more admirable. (Bush wrecked his knees from jogging 3 miles a day.)

Vietnam story about Kerry: A lone enemy gunner started shooting at Kerry's swift-boat. Kerry ordered the boat beached, jumped off the boat, chased down the surprised gunner and killed him. When giving Kerry an award for this, the commander said he didn't know whether to award him or court-martial him, because it was against orders for the captain to leave his boat when on patrol.

GravatarI've said this I don't know how many times in the past week:
Race Riots in Florida the night of November 2. You don't need a crystal ball to see this people.
The madness will make 1965 look like a tea party.
And the end to American democratic integrity will be complete.

Gravatarrace riots in Florida on Nov. 2 ain't gonna happen cuz any "fix" will be resolved over electronic machines in the south and southeast. if the race has Kerry up +1 or +2 (i.e "tied") in the polls, then all those banked early-votes will be very tough to "forget about."

the gotv here in the northeast is ready, and local attempts at fraud are getting (limited)media coverage, but damn, robo-calls every day.

GravatarThe problem is, it really isn't news; in various forms it's been going on since the formation of the USA. We badly need electoral reform.

GravatarNo, the problem IS news. When 62% of the public think that Saddam was involved in 911, and when almost half think W is not a corrupt moron, that is the media's fault.

Gravatarno one cares about the integrity of the democratic process. the election will be stolen, no matter how many votes are cast. it is a charade and a joke.

Gravatarmort you are wrong. many many folks here in Florida are keeping our eyes wide open, expecting Jeb to be Jeb!, but folks are confident the thugs can be beaten back here, that the newly registered voters and an energized ABB and undecided voter break for KE will make the chances of Florida fraud harder to pull off this year, even with all those Diebold machines down south.

the joke is watching the Jeb's GOP-fraudsters get caught so quickly and easily. the local media is hungry for these stories.

GravatarWhen is the media going to start reporting voter registration tricks? Whomever hatched that question deserves alot of praise---it confronts the other classic---why do you hate Amurrica?
