In all honesty, we have not done enough of throwing GWB's words back at him. Maybe if the campaign's high-paid media consultants could stop with the "feel good" BS ads and get to some raw meat during this last week, maybe we can pull this out.
Why do the 527 organizations do a better job producing ads than experienced media consultants?
I am sick of our candidates being portrayed as baby killers while the real crooks, thugs, and idiots get off scott free.
As former Tennessee Goivernor Frank Clement said, "How long O Lord, how long?"

1. Is this thing actually going to be running, in flights other than just the occasional "527" buy from the group that produced it? Or, considering Greenberg's involvement, is maybe the Kerry campaign going to "buy" this spot and run it as their own?
2. Has anyone tested the "wolf" spot, and does it measure up to the response this one got?
Gotta tell ya... for all the buzz about the "wolf" spot, it was mondo lame. Not even original... the "bear" spot made a point... this is just a buncha cute lil' wolfies.
(I can hear the strategerists now: "Reagan scared 'em with bears, right? So, we'll have ourselves a pack of WOLVES! Get it? WOLVES! Not the same as bears, 'cuz it's WOLVES, see?")

apparently, the wolves scared judy woodruff. from salon:
Sometimes we here at War Room watch CNN and think that Jon Stewart and company would have a year's worth of "moments of zen" if they just recorded the proceedings. Today's CNN moment of zen came this afternoon as Judy Woodruff spoke to Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, who, despite her aversion to publicity and media attention, hit the campaign trail for John Kerry in Wisconsin today and even subjected herself to a CNN interview.
After some talk about why Schlossberg was inspired to stump for Kerry, how he'd be better for women and families, and what he has to do to shore up the female vote, Woodruff moved on to the campaign topic du jour: an alarmist and cynical fear-mongering ad just released by Bush-Cheney '04, called "Wolves."
The "back story" of the Wolves ad, as the Bush team tells it, is that the ad was tested months ago in focus groups and was so powerful -- so persuasive -- that BC '04 held it close to the vest and is only now unveiling it to deliver the big KO to Kerry-Edwards. Trumping up the ad in the hopes of fooling people into being impressed by it, rather than appalled, the Bush team is painting the Wolves ad as a kind of unpleasant October surprise for John Kerry, rather than a sign of their own desperation. Clearly, Judy got the memo.
In her interview, Woodruff asked Schlossberg about the "Wolves" ad in breathless tones that suggested she was also convinced Kerry had a serious problem on his hands here. "What do you say about this ad?" Woodruff said, and we're paraphrasing. "A Bush adviser said they tested the ad and it was so powerful they decided to run it in the final days of the campaign, that it shows a weakness of John Kerry's." The Republicans say terrorists smell the fear all over John Kerry and are ready to pounce! However will he respond?!
Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, looking a little confused and amused about the whole wolves thing, brought a moment of clarity and yes, a moment of zen, to Woodruff's program: "I can't believe anyone would make up their mind based on an ad showing a bunch of animals running around," she said. Here's hoping.

the thing about the wolves ad is once again all pundits are talking about it .. so even if it is so lame it is getting more coverage than ad buy because Republicans said it "tested thru the roof"
DNC should pick up this ad and say this is their "Wolve" ad .. the great one that tested thru the roof..
"Pollsters Greenberg, Quinlan & Rosner tested the ad and found that after viewing it just once, there was an almost unprecedented 8 point gross shift away from Bush in voting intentions among the 750-person test sample. It also badly eroded support for Bush across a wide range of measures including confidence in his Iraq policy and key measures of character including honesty and sharing the concerns of ordinary people"
Make it into a story

While I agree with the sentiment, and the idea behind the ad, (and keep in mind...I haven't done squat compared to these people and am just criticising) when Bush did that bit I immidiately thought of the ad I would like to see.
For one thing it would have to be a little longer. For another it would go back and forth between his crass, unforgivable "joking" about this to much harder information.
Like him saying what he says, laughing, juxstasposed with still shots of the destruction, of the number of American soldiers dead, number "wounded" (and when there is talk of "wounded" I think there ought to be a new category of the kind "permanently i.e. missing limbs, sight, chronically sick for the rest of their lives, and a third category of wounds that can heal...) AND Iraqis dead, destruction...
I know it is too much too hope for, but I am reminded of something that hit me incredibly hard in the vietnam time...it was Hendrix in the documentary "Jimi Plays Berkeley" where played "Machine Gun" and while he played those mournful and chilling notes suddenly there were actual still photos from that war of the suffering and death. That was poignent.
In short, I'm glad they made the ad, I wish it were done better and related more of the true horror, along with our sociopath of a president that doesn't even have the human decency to treat the issue with the gravity it deserves.
But what can one expect from a president that says he's "been to war" when he sat it out THOUGH he supported it.
Too many people are refusing to actually know what the results of this deranged administration are.
BUsh, Cheney and Rove couldn't care less about wolves.

I gave $200 and I got an e-mail recipt. Anyone who expresses vague "concern" or "misgivings" about something that is generally positive for Kerry or the Dems h on this site should be presumed to be lying.
To those who wish the ad were more "powerful", you don't understand that an ad can be too graphic to be effective -- hearing screams and cries is so upsetting that many people would turn it off. The sister's grief is so palpable, and the juxtaposition so stark that I think it works pretty well. Also, in an understated way (showing the photograph of the brother with the Iraqi kid) the ad is overall positive about the troops. It's a pretty remarkable ad, really.

I don't think the Democrats ads hit hard enough. How about this for 2 ads
1) Opening scene a news report of another threatened terrorist attack.
We see Bush saying we must be tough on terror.
News reports follow that the president has ordered detention of all Arab Americans in camps, and detention of all all believers in Islam including African-Americans.
News reports president declares Marshall law and suspends constitution and elections.
Closing scenes - two people talking "we feel much safer now even though we can't vote"
shot of newspaper front page with the date of Nov 4, 2008- Bush declares himself president indefinitely.
2) Alternating shots of newspaper front page and president Bush.
First Newspaper- headline that N. Korea threatens to test nuclear weapon and Iran has enough fissle material for 8 bombs. Another headline says U.S. refusing to have bilateral talks with N. Korea.
Cutaway to Bush making statements from the debate about refusing to hold talks.
Newspaper- N. Korea / Iran have both tested weapons. U.S. refusing to join GLOBAL effort at diplomacy.
Bush- we will not submit to global tests. Attaching Iraq was the right thing to do.
Newspaper- missles fired at Israel, Japan, Hawaii.
Closing scene- don't we want a president who works with the rest of the world?
