I love to see a good chimp get whacked... I also love to see that the media is finally doing their jobs in seeing the truth come out, rather than having Pepsi and Coke argue over beverage truth.
Based on facts, your assesment is correct. But you forget, Atrios, that Bush does not live in the reality-based community. He will likely come out saying that the video shows he was right all along, and it was the soldiers' faults anyway. And the lazy, sensationalist media will cover it like it is just another side of a debate, as if it was fact. Welcome to the land of the free.

You have to wonder how many more outright proofs of Bush administration incompetence the freepers can possibly handle before they go postal?
Pretty soon it's going to happen. We all know it will. One defeat after another. One debate loss after another. One refutation after another.
Come November 2nd night there will be a small army of freeper idiots out there with guns looking for anyone who happens to be smiling and will blow them away.
Anyone who could possibly smile after dear leader, our gift from god, loses the fraudulant election couldn't possibly be anything other than a terrorist loving liberal.

If you look closely at the marking on the crate, it appears in French. We all know that John Kerry looks French and we know that he even likes the French!
Also, if you inspect the font and kerning on the crates you will notice that the text burning equipment used is NOT capable of burning letters so close together signifying that they were DRAWN ON!

They put it there...then they took it right back off. They're gonna hold onto all of them and TRY to say, look! It says not at this address! The postal service had them, delivered them, they came back, and now this person tried to vote twice! Fraud! Fraud!
Problem is...
You'd better have the right kind of codes on those "returned" letters. You'd better have them in the right kind of ink, the right stamps, everthing.
If anyone--and I do mean ANYONE here, has this happen to them, email me a pic of the purported returned mailpiece. I'll tell you if it went through the postal service or not.

Anyway, I use to have to go get something from my Dad on occasion and I would go through the back loading dock. Broward, Palm Beach, Miami-Dade and Volusia counties were all democratic strongholds in 2000.
This from Commondreams:
"Michael Moore, the documentary film-maker who directed the anti-Bush movie Fahrenheit 9/11, is expected to deliver a protest speech outside the Broward County Supervisor of Elections office at 7 tonight.
Moore plans to discuss news reports that 58,000 absentee ballots are missing in Broward, according to his publicist, Terri Hardesty."
This might spell trouble, but my "N" from the INFP in me says that Kerry will win so convincingly across the country that Bush can have Florida. Then again, I think Kerry will win in Florida sans the 58,000. Perhaps I am overly optimistic here, but I think the polling idiots are in for a surprise.

Keep in mind that catching the "fuckers" in a lie in no way affects the fact that these weapons are out there. In other words, we've known for days that the explosives are out there. It's a nice TRY at a setup, but it doesn't fly. You're right that anybody could get in there and take the mail. That's why we have a big sign saying, "IDIOTS: DOCK NOT GUARDED. The Freepers are now trying spin number 8 on the missing weapons now that it has been shown they were there at least nine days after Baghdad fell:
Fox debunked this story tonight.
At the bottom of the UN report from the IAEA it states that their seals on the building aren't failproof since there are ventilation shafts in the buildings and the contents of the buildings could be accessed without breaking the UN seals.
So a bunch of Iraqi's climbed down air shafts and removed 700,000 pounds of explosives on their backs. Those tricky little bastards.

ABC News was a thing of beauty tonight. Understated, factual and devastating. It looked like real journalism, by jiminey.
With video even. And sooner rather than later. Wow. When have the good guys been that lucky lately?
I don't think Kerry has to mention it again other than maybe just enough to keep the issue breathing. When the KSTP story hits all the papers, complete with IAEA seals, tomorrow morning, (and it had damn well better) it's over.
Only the very dumbest, craziest and most viscous winguts can miss the point now.
Kerry really gets it. Bush doesn't even know where to look for it.
Let Kerry be enthusiastic, relaxed, presidential, optimistic, positive.... let him just look and sound like the winner. I think that's where we are now.

Here's a link to the missing ballots story from the NYT:
"Bush is a liar," Gene Conrad, a 65-year-old teacher from Jupiter, said after hearing Mr. Kerry deliver a speech on religion the other day. "He lied us into war. And I cannot vote for anyone who is dumber than I am."
OK, now I am seeing that perhaps there are two stories here:
"The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Wednesday that up to 60,000 absentee ballots had been sent to, but not yet received by, voters in Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale. County elections officials did not return phone calls from The New York Times, but Gisela Salas, the deputy elections supervisor, told The Sun-Sentinel that many of the missing ballots were sent on Oct. 7 and 8. Ms. Salas said she had no explanation for their disappearance."
That's the 60,000 number. However, there is another report that indicates that the 78,000 absentee ballots that were on their way to the election office via the USPS has "gone missing." That's the story I've been wondering about in this thread. Now I am seeing this 60,000 number - the absentee ballots that were mailed and simply never made it to the intended recipients. Hmmm...Is that 138,000 ballots in heavily democratic counties that are somehow compromised as of this moment? Am I missing something here?

they are in bunker 47 itself, having

Ok, I know here in the People's Republic of Boulder we may be somewhat to the left of the most of Colorado. But, I went to early vote today and found lines of hundreds of people at two different sites. Lots of college students. Waited at one for over half an hour when we were told "the computer crashed" - odd since we had paper ballots, but it turns out it was the computer that prints the early ballots. Have to go back tomorrow.
So I stopped by the Dem headquarters to sign up for Tuesday and found they have so many local volunteers already they're sending people to other, more conservative counties to help out.

Florida County Plays Down Missing Ballots Scare
By Jim Loney
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Reuters) - Fears that thousands of absentee election ballots had gone astray in a hotly contested Florida county appear to have been allayed on Thursday when officials said a far small number were missing.
"The extent of the problem is not going to be as great as it appeared," Broward County Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes told a news conference, easing concerns of a resurgence of the kind of problems that dogged the 2000 election.
Officials in Broward said this week that nearly 60,000 absentee ballots mailed on Oct. 7 and 8 had not reached voters' homes.
But Snipes said that in fact of 128,000 absentee ballots mailed to voters who will not be able to vote in person next Tuesday, 72,000 had been filled in and sent back and the rest were coming in at a rate of 10,000 a day.
She said that instead of having to send out as many as 58,000 replacement ballots, the county would probably only have to resend 10,000 to 15,000.
"I think it was more of a delay than that the ballots were lost," Snipes said.
With the memories of the 2000 race and all signs pointing to a neck-and-neck race in many states this year, Democrats and Republicans have prepared teams of lawyers to fight their causes should there be disputes.
Reports that nearly 60,000 ballots were missing, representing more than 5 percent of the county's electorate -- alarmed voters, democracy activists and officials.
U.S. Postal Service investigators began hunting for the ballots, while insisting 58,000 pieces of mail do not simply go missing, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement also launched a speedy investigation.
Snipes said the election authorities, inundated with phone calls from anxious voters who had not received their ballots, had contacted the Postal Service investigators "in an abundance of caution." She added that the Florida police had reported back that "no criminal activity was determined."
The Broward County elections office set up a hotline on Thursday for voters who wanted their absentee ballots to be mailed again, and had received 267 calls so far, she said.
The county is also calling out-of-state voters to see whether they had received their voting forms and would courier any replacement ballots needed.
In 2000 the race in Florida, on which the national contest ultimately depended, was so close it prompted five weeks of lawsuits, recounts and accusations of foul play.
President Bush (news - web sites) eventually won Florida's electoral votes and the White House when the U.S. Supreme Court (news - web sites) halted the ballot recounts, angering Democrats who believe Democrat Al Gore (news - web sites) won

Why do you all hate America?
Let's see. Hmmmmm.
1. For starters this nation was founded not on freedom, but greed.
2. We went into a foreign land. Stalked, hunted, trapped, caged, chained, whipped, beat, hit, struck, raped, mutilated, murdered and enslaved tens ofthousands of free people for no other reason than the fact they were black and we were god-fearing whites.
3. We claim to be a christian nation, but this nation worships the almighty dollar. Rather than walking through the perly gates most christians in this country would rather descend into the long greenbacks.
4. We have the world's highest rate of murder and rape of any country in the world. And it's been this way for a very long time.
5. We hypcritically go into other lands, set up slave-like sweatshops. Profit from their misery. Take away their dignity and human rights. Oppress and terrorize the locals with the approval of their corrupt, bought out third-world dictators, then act like we're innocent when some of those third worlders attack us back.
6. My wife is Puerto Rican and her family still lives down there. Her family and their neighbors are getting tired of the U.S military using their beautiful island as a target range, then doing a half-assed job of cleaning up the undetonated shells.
7. My wife, besides being Puerto Rican, had a great, great grandfather that was a runaway negro slave who managed to stow away on a ship and make it out of the country, so go see #2 again dumbass.
#8 I'm one-quarter Cherokee so you white skinned motherfu**ers stole my father's lands, gave my brothers smallpox, and murdered us to near extinction so f*ck you!
America is a great nation, perhaps the greatest of nations, but it's roots were born in evil and greed that has YET to cleanse itself.
That's why I have a love-hate relationship with my home.
America! land of the Greedy, home of the enslaved.

Covered earlier - state legislatures can't designate electors unless that is the way a state's system is set up befpre the election.
Any issues about which electors are certified are determined by a state's election commission or the courts.
This refers to the 2000 court decision where Scalia advanced the position that it is up to state legislatures to determine the system of elector selection BEFORE the election. He suggested that could include the legistlature choosing them itself. But NOT after the election.
Lots of stuff to worry about, but not this.

From a dkos diarist:

Just heard on KCRW that Maria Shriver, Red Sox fan and First Lady of the State of California, is out for three months with a broken foot. Apparently she was so excited by the Red Sox victory that she jumped off the couch and landed on one of her kids shoes, breaking her foot.
This would give Arnie an excuse to cancel his trip to Ohio, but I doubt that he would. It probably should give Maria a reason to start cheering for one of California's five fine major league baseball teams, if for no other reason than her own safety.

Yeah, whatever. You bitch about this all the time. You've, no doubt, been paying attention to media coverage and the hype for the last three years.
We're going to win this, because some figured out how to do it.
This refers to the 2000 court decision where Scalia advanced the position that it is up to state legislatures to determine the system of elector selection BEFORE the election. He suggested that could include the legistlature choosing them itself. But NOT after the electio..............................Bush v Gore specifies that it cannot be used as a reference for any future court case.In 2000 the Fla. legislature was threatening to vote for electors, and would have split the vote between Bush and Gore throwing the vote to the Governor, smirkys' brother.

MYOB - In the first place, the Dems have been a much abused minority in Congress. They have been locked out of rooms where legislation was laid out that they had to vote on, they've been shouted down and generally beaten to a pulp. Still, they blocked as many of Bush's judicial nominees as they could and they fought hard.
In the second place, with a president of their own party, the Democrats in Congress will have a much different working atmosphere.
Quit bitching about the Dems. They have been abused to within an inch of their lives. The Repugs held everything - everything for 4 years. I'm tired of people expecting the Congressional Democrats to be fucking super heroes - though some have been, despite the pressure.
Now STFU about it.

Somebody wrote "we can't stop fighting until November 3rd". Unfortunately, when Kerry wins on Nov. 2 the real fight will just begin...
The more the beasts are cornered, the nastier they will get. And BushCo is going to leave JFK as many minefields to traverse as they can possibly muster. What time they have left over from shredding documents between Nov. 3rd and January 20th will be spent trying to undermine the incoming government of the Unites States.
Also, the Democratic Party will need some housecleaning and the BIg Ones - prime issues like the war, terrorism and the deficit that Kerry is faced with - will demand the attention not just of policy wonks but of an energized political base if we're actually going to do more than spin our wheels and pray for deliverance by the fearless leaders. Atriosians need to start thinking about helping to build a winning liberal political strategy that will impact the next generation, not just the next election.

"Also, they are just blank ballots so who cares, some people might be inconvienced at most.At least the votes will still be counted,so the issue is really a nonissue."
Except, couldn't the thieves fill them out for Bush, mail them in, and then point to the double balloting for these voters as evidence of fraud and have the lot of them thrown out of the count? Just asking. I would think any way they can obscure the true count would benefit them.

yet ANOTHER Repub disenfranchisement scam exposed--you can be sure they've tried this on other campuses in other swing states, as well!
"Pitt students gathered at a press conference yesterday on campus to discuss a recent scandal that left some of them with altered voter registrations.
Everybody Vote, a non-partisan voter registration group based in Pittsburgh, held the conference outside of Litchfield Towers to make college voters aware of the scam. The group has accumulated nearly 100 complaints from Pitt students claiming that petition-gatherers had them fill out voter registration forms that changed their party affiliation to Republican.
Students received notices by mail informing them of the change, and some students learned that they are now registered to vote in a different polling place than they had anticipated.
The complaints follow a common pattern: Over a period of a week immediately preceding the Oct. 4 registration deadline, men claiming to be petition-gatherers approached students with a petition supporting the legalization of medicinal marijuana."
It has Bush cracking the "where are those WMDs" joke, and then mentions that a whole bunch of people have died in Iraq, etc.

I'm starting to feel confident of a Kerry win and scared to death of the complexity of the mess(s) he'll be faced with and the inevitable GOPer strategy of slash-and-burn backlash when some of Bush's chickens start coming home to roost on Kerry's watch. It's a problem that's unavoidable and it's going to require brilliant strategy, near-flawless policy and unprecedented honesty with the American people for the new administration to truly succeed. I hate to start sounding like a pain in the ass before we've even celebrated what is beginning to look like an excellent chance for a decisive victory over BushCo, but these bastards have driven the country into a pretty big ditch - all of the objective problems facing us aside - and it's going to be a long haul getting back on track.

I just saw that idiot Racicot on Larry King screaming about how the weapons were GONE GONE GONE!! King kept saying, what about the video? NO, they werer GONE GONE GONE!!!
The more than 320 tons of missing Iraqi high explosives at center stage in the U.S. presidential election are only a fraction of the weapons-related material that's disappeared in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion last year.
Huge amounts of arms and ammunition were stolen from military sites, and there's "ample evidence" that Iraqi insurgents are firing looted weapons at U.S. troops and using some of them in car bombs and improvised explosive devices, said a senior U.S. intelligence official, speaking on condition of anonymity.
In a new disclosure, the senior U.S. military officer and another U.S. official, who also spoke on condition he not be identified because of the sensitivity of the matter, said that an Iraqi working for U.S. intelligence alerted U.S. troops stationed near the al Qaqaa weapons facility that the installation was being looted shortly after the fall of Baghdad on April 9, 2003.
Methinks the spooks are pissed.

Democrats should know this and be pushing the media to cover Michael Badnarik. Read now on Electoral-Vote: “A Rasmussen poll taken Oct. 26 in Arizona puts Libertarian party candidate Michael Badnarik at 3%. When the pollsters actually ask about him, he does surprisingly well. He might end up canceling out the Nader factor by appealing to disgruntled Republicans who support a balanced budget and small government and are appalled by the current deficit and power the Patriot Act gives the government to snoop on people's lives.”

However, a comparison of features in the DoD-released imagery with available commercial satellite imagery, combined with the use of an IAEA map showing the location of bunkers used to store the HMX explosives, reveals that the trucks pictured on the DoD image are not at any of the nine bunkers indentified by the IAEA as containing the missing explosive stockpiles

Just watching rerun of Tweety's Hardball. Is Jim Mikleszewski a Pentagon tool? He said the last time IAEA "laid eyes" on the explosives was last January when they viewed them and then sealed them. The clear implication was that the bunkers could be opened and the seals replaced to look as if they hadn't been touched. When the IAEA inspectors were there in March (3/8 for explosives, 3/15 for missiles, per doc on inspections-my note), per Mik, they did not unseal the bunkers and look into the contents, the boxes, to determine that the items were actually there.
They depended on the seals being unbroken.
This must be BushCo talking points, based on what commenter said about Larry King and Racicot.
Tweety also asked Mik if securing ammo dumps wasn't a "battlefield decision." Give me a break: We fought the damn war bcz of frickin' weapons, WMD's; these were dual use explosives, sealed by the blippin' IAEA; apparently 3rd ID actually investigated the "white powder" to see if it was a chem weapon, found it to be only an explosive, and left them all there.
Can't remember Mikleszewski's exact reply, but it seemed to absolve military, esp'ly fighting grunts sweeping toward B'dad.
Mik also made a big deal about the Iraqi Minister of Science including in his letter that the the explosives went missing sometime after 4/9/03. Since that is considered the date of the fall of B'dad, I would think that would make sense for an official not in power at the time who had signed statements from scientists at Al Qaqaa that nothing left while they were in charge and they were told to vamoos when US military came on the scene.
Now, Laura Ingraham is on Scarborough Country. Shudder. Don't watch him much--refuse to ever watch her again after having her forced on us during the impeachment mess. Hey, Laura, move on!

In Chicago we have a simple response. We just find the Rethug and throw a punch.
I hereby declare an anti-Rove campaign for election day,
call it "TAP-EM"--The "Throw A Punch Election Movement".
At 7 a.m. Tuesday Nov. 2, in 3,600 precinct polling places across Ohio, some designated Democrat gets to Throw A Punch at the Rove Rethug obstructionist.
Don't have to hit him, just throw a punch, (have bail money in pocket), cops will haul off both protagonists.

Tena,
He said he was trying to avoid being political, but:
- that was an iaea seal
- those barrels were either HDX or RMX
- they were wrong to abandon the site but they obviously hadn't been told to guard them
- poor intelligence
- these are NOT wmds
- but they are incredibly dangerous in the hands of a terrorist
- mentioned pan am flight
there is nothing more for BC04 to say on this issue. I expect to go to code red in the morning.

I sure hope David Kay does a lot of interviews in the next few days. With a dry unemotional manner he gives us the worst possible answers for the Bush Admin and confirms what we all were thinking about the weapons.

David Kay just gutted the administration like a fish. He said that this was much, much bigger than just Al Qaqaa - the Bush White House was notified of over 80 major arms dumps that they did not secure, and which have now been looted.
Iraq had 2/3 the amount of armaments and explosives that the entire US military has. I don't think the 363000 tons that Scotty McClellan goes on about were anything but a spit in the ocean. And now they are all out there - waiting to be used by people who are pissed we destroyed their country.

Completely OT, but here's an interesting email I received from a friend in Monterey, California:
As you may know, my sweet fiance is a registered Republican - don't worry, he can't stand Bush either. Anyway, he received an absentee ballot last week and was wondering why he got it, since he didn't request it. Yesterday a Republican poll worker called him and asked him if he got his absentee ballot - the Republican party has arranged for all Republicans to receive them!!! He was shocked. I am shocked. I take it as a sign of desperation - and also typical Republican dirty tricks. One more reason to get out and VOTE!!!
Anyone else heard about this?

Vast amounts of weapons-related material missing, official says
By Jonathan S. Landay
Knight Ridder Newspapers
WASHINGTON - The more than 320 tons of missing Iraqi high explosives at center stage in the U.S. presidential election are only a fraction of the weapons-related material that's disappeared in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion last year.
U.N. officials also are concerned about the disappearance of sensitive equipment and controlled materials that could be used to develop nuclear, biological or chemical weapons.
"If this equipment is finding itself on the open market, then anybody with money can buy it," said Dimitri Perricos, acting head of the U.N. Monitoring and Verification Commission (UNMOVIC), the U.N. weapons inspection agency.
The CIA has convened a "mini taskforce" of experts to assess precisely what equipment is gone and what threat it could pose if it fell into the wrong hands, said two U.S. officials.
But, they said, the troops took no apparent action to halt the pillaging.

An NBC reporter was with the first unit to arrive at the Al QaQaa facility. They searched the faciltiy and the weapons were already gone. There were no weapons to protect or secure, therefore Bush is not culpable. More likely is that Hussein in the short window between the last inspection and the start of the war had the weapons transported somewhere.

The pentagon keeps saying they have destroyed 400,000 tons of munitions. This is almost certainly a lie. The link at bottom is to a report from The Center For Public Integrity about weapons disposal contractor EOD. Short version: EOD was contracted to dispose of 100 tons a day, 6 days a week. There were/are three other contractors. It's not certain, but likely that each contractor has the same goal. OK, that's 400 tons a day x 6 days x 58 weeks (they began sept 11, 03)= 139,200 tons. That's if everything has gone right, and almost nothing has gone right. 139,200 is not 400,000 and the Pentagon ought not to be lying about that figure.

Confirmation taking what form, since they confirmed it to the POTUS and Administration before the invastion?
Meanwhile the DoD has produced a picture of two trucks at the facility. They said they knew the weapons were being trucked out of the facility and didn't give a shit.
Date? Two reports prior to invasion of Baghdad confirm explosives were found, but troops not trained in explosives did not recognize them as such (would you?). Reports from after the invasion of Baghdad also confirm explosives were there.
Then they vanished. Condi Rice didn't know they were gone until about 6 weeks ago. Bush didn't know until about 2 weeks ago.
All of this information is available via Google, or on the threads on this blog.

When will moderate Republicans -- and there ARE some -- realize that Bush/Cheney, Frist, DeLay/Hastert, Scalia, Feith, Rumsfield, and Wolfowitz -- the fascists and pharisees -- are giving their party a bad name and leading the GOP into disaster? Even if one was to forgive the descent into an Orwellian nightmare -- and that's a huge "if" -- this administration has not even demonstrated basic competance or anything close to honesty.
If you want change in the leadership of your party, you're NOT going to get that if you re-elect Bush & Cheney. They will only seek to consolidate their power and punish those in their party that dare speak their mind and demonstrate dissent. You'd be asking for more of the same --and not just through 2008.
Moderate Republicans -- you know in your hearts and minds that Kerry cannot possibly be worse for this country -- certainly not as long as the country remains almost evenly split, which means he will have to pursue an middle of the road agenda -- and cannot possibly be worse than the current direction for the future of the Republican party, either.
Fascists and Pharisees. That is the leadership of your party at the moment. Think about that when you consider what you want the legacy of this country and your choices to be.

Knight Ridder has been a beacon of hope in the fog of Big Media.
If the issues of looting unsecured, unguarded weapons sites had been "pressed" by Big Media, if BushCo's multiple incompetencies had been follow up on, if the press/TV had done their jobs, Bush would never have dared to run for re-election.

I was finally introduced to Laura Ingraham this evening on Scarborough.
I am trying to figure out the point of
shows like that.
A show as negative and contrived serves
very little purpose except to spread
angst in a cruel fashion.
A twist of the knife at this late hour

When it all comes down to truths,

finally, someone has posted the satphots.
for a long time i have insisted that the nro[not the national observer] had the record of all that occurred in iraq...that they had the proof that there were no wmd, no nuclear programs.
even aviation week and space tech was muscled so as not to air that photo data.
so, i had antagonists who questioned my assertions. i had nothing other than my background. i didn't know that colon powell had used nro satphots at the un.
so great to have them archived.
as to stalkers, they come from the left and the right.
when the gangster general augusto pinochet ugarte was captured in london, i put up some of my memories of chile on a site. i received lots of death threats. from the right wing of fascism, i surmised.
and there is also a left wing of fascism. i experienced it on another site. according to the webmaster, some guest blogger was allowed to ban me and to erase all the posts that i had ever made over a two year period.
what interested me, interests me, is that some number of those posts involved my knowledge of satphot observations of iraq and how their revelation would destroy the bush-cheney assertions.
and i was always more polite on that site than on this one. for instance, i never called anyone a congressc*nt[jane harman] there. i never responded there, as i have here, to dr pedant as dr pederast after he accused me of being a racist without any evidence.
concluding, i pray that the electorate pays attention and that the "fix" isn't in...george bush and the republican fascists must be thrown away. now. because if not now, it might never occur until after the global cataclysm that they will energize.
before i close, i wish that i could hear some pol lament the murders that this country, the united states of assassination, has inflicted on the populace of iraq. in previous posts, i put the figures at 500,000-1,000,000 children since 1991.
and i posted 30,000 -50,000 since bush invested amerikan thugs to murder iraqis last year.
reading tonite that the real number of iraqis murdered by amerikan thugs is closer to 100,000, i am speechless. a figure worse than this pessimist imagined.
dear lord, save the world from this country.
that is my all souls' day prayer. i ask that you make that prayer yours.
and DEFENESTRATE BUSH-CHENEY.

Almost certainly not until it is too late. They are "good Germans". The last four years have exposed a rather distressing character flaw of Republicans. They put their loyalty towards their party leadership above their loyalty to the country. If iron-clad evidence came to light tommorrow that George Bush and Osama bin Laden were in fact the same person, the vast vast majority of them would still vote for the bastard.

Well, half the time when you write for money you end up writing for free anyway! But in my case...I tend to be on retainer, writing things that drive me batty. In the past, I could deal with it by writing stuff that was more entertaining or interesting to me. Unfortunately, in the last couple of years I've lost the emotional ability to do that - I'm way too tense and angry - so posting here is really a pressure-valve for me. Also, this format is off-the-cuff, and I've always had a tendency to overwrite and overedit. Gee, Phila, I used to call that writer's block.
Seriously, I took a sabbatical last month from all this political stuff and, lo and behold, my writing was a welcome refuge. I'm not published or anything. I write for fun.
Ever notice that, if you tell people you like to write, they always ask if you're published? I always counter with, "You like to ski. Win any slalom competitions lately?" Or something similar.
For some reason, people just assume that the ONLY reason anyone would want to write (or paint or act or be musical) is to make money at it, or that getting rich off it is the only thing that could justify doing something "arty." Bollocks on them. Some of us just like to do it for the sheer pleasure of it.

Just for the record, David Kay also said "Gamer, set, match" in response to Aaron Brown when he confirmed the video of al QaQaa. He also confirmed that the site was actually discovered in the early nineties by his own inspection unit and it was well known what was stored there, that this was monumental negligence and that it's a drop in the bucket compared to the enormous amounts of additional weapons and munitions that have fallen into the hands of insurgents because the sites weren't guarded after the invasion.

Here it is, the Saturday Night Live skit for this weekend--certainly would be great as the show opener:
A halloween-costumed, American-speaking, scarf-wrapped terrorist, outlined by realistic, but detectably phony arabic writing,is speaking into a video camera. Oh, but as the "terrorist" speaks all kinds of nonsense about beheadings, stolen explosives and Bill Maher, we gradually start to recognize some of his pharasing. "Hard work," egggs-aaj-jer-ation," perhaps even a blast from the past--"strateegery" soon make it clear to us that we know exactly who this DESPERATE terrorist is, and when he struggles to pronounce Abu Graib, well, game, set, match. Does he rip off his garb before yelling "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night," or staying in character, does he hiss it through his colorful scarf(or whatever you call it)? Tune in and find out.
What do ya'll think?
I am patting myself on the back like a mofo, I must say. Somebody pass this along to the SNL writers.
My friend and I made a little video with some footage courtesy of your site, so I thought I'd post it here in case anyone cared. I know it's a little rough, but I think the ending is neat, at least.
This story is so awful... I just don't understand how the media (and even some writers here) can see it as just politics. It's not about politics, it's about criminal neglicence. This war should lead to impeachments and criminal convictions and not because of some far left political agenda, but because of American patriotism: they have totally failed to defend our country and make it stronger. This war was not connected to 9/11 or WMDs but that's not all: it has been waged in such an incompetent way that I can't even understand how it's possible. Why aren't the news full of outrage??? We are having a real war waged against us by extrem Islam and we have a president that is making our enemies stronger at every step. Why is this nightmare happening? Please, please, please, let Kerry win on Tuesday...

I hope somebody has commented on this, but according to the news story (The State paper here in SC; probably an AP wire story) I read this morning, we've now got David Kay looking at the video and saying "yup, that's Al QaQaa, and yup, those are intact IAEA seals". But Kay didn't frind any of those WMD so I guess he's just a shill for Kerry or some such. After all, who should we believe - a guy who actually was in-country, or someone whose only contact with Iraqi soil was a 30 minute photo-op a year ago at the Baghdad airport?
BTW - "Rudy Mussolini" - that's great!

The storys not over ...Most of the sh%$% you saw on the abc tape was still there in march....Its not the crap, Kerrys is blowing over....Its a close cousin of amonia nitrate...A low level explosive used in construction....you need to talk to the soldiers that where there...just because you see it on the msm doesn,t make it true.....You also don't pack the good stuff in cardboard boxes....plastic explosives look like playdo...packed in bricks and marked accordingly. What you saw in the ABC tape must be combined with a binder agent then packed and set off...The bad guys in Iraq use very little plastic or cemtex, instead they use shells that where hidden throughout Irag......no amount of troops could have secured it all.

Sadly, we will never know if this statement is true or false, since George W. Bush and his handlers refused to send enough troops anyway.
They had the same problem with 9/11, and we have many of the same complaints: Could something have been done to fix it? We don't know, but they didn't even try.
