I don't know if it's been suggested or not but if we want to wear hoods we should all dress like Abu Gharaib prisoners. Of course if we have the hood over our faces we will never see, plus I doubt the polls would like having people show up nekkid with roach clips attached to all their appendages(save one.)
Actually, I watched TRL on Thursday afternoon and it had gone down to #11, just outside the top 10, and Eminem's other single "Just Lose It" was back at #1. And there was no TRL yesterday. One could conspire, but let's keep voting for it.

Of course the thugs will be all over Kerry like stink on shit. That's what they do - use any tactics at hand to get their way.
Which is why our job number 1 has to be to push aggressively for investigations and prosecutions. They'll howl like a bunch of howler monkeys over it, but they will do that anyway, and since we have to hear it, it might as well be in service to something that needs to be done.
There are so many opportunities ripe for exploitation: Valerie Plame, secret energy meetings, no-bid contracts, misuse of homeland security resources, etc etc etc. The one good thing about government investigations of this type is that they DO drag on and on and on - so they don't disappear quickly down the memory hole. A year or two of ongoing investigations/prosecutions, with weekly media dumps on newest findings/developments, will wake up all but the most zombiefied of the KoolAid drinkers. With the added benefit of warning them not to try it again.
Let's face it, these assholes would have never thought they could get away with half of the shit they've pulled if they hadn't watched the S&L looters get off without so much as a slap on the hand or seen the Iran-Contra crew take a shit on the Constitution with no adverse consequences (hell, half of them are back on our payroll again!). I don't want to hear any of the usual Dem mealymouthing about how the public has "scandal fatigue" so it's best to just drop it. These are the guys who have been insisting that OBL attacked us because Bill Clinton let him "get away" with the embassy and Cole bombings and it emboldened him. Let's just agree with them that allowing thugs to get away with anything emboldens them, and repeat their talking point to them whenever they whine about their heroes being prosecuted for illegal actions.
Prosecutions, bitches!

Look at the following list of names and consider who they would most likely vote for if they were allowed to vote in our coming election,
Martin Luther King
Abraham Lincoln
Thomas Jefferson
Benjamin Franklin
Thomas Paine
Gandhi
Eleanor Roosevelt
Robert Kennedy
Nelson Mandela
Bishop Tutu

When you cast your vote will you be voting the same way as you think the above people will vote?
How closely aligned with these people will you be?

Well, snarkey, I think by and large he's been trying to carve out his career in music, and make money, and live his life how he pleases. You know, be an American citizen.
So, you obviously have an ax to grind against Eminem... fine. But if you truly believed in this cause, the progressive cause, the liberal cause, the cause for change, whatever you want to call it... why the hell do you feel the need to slam a guy that's on your fucking side?!?
And people wonder why the progressives can't get anything done. As a centrist (middle-aged and voting for Kerry), this blows my mind. My advice to you, and anyone else who has united for this common cause: leave the petty shit at the door until after the work is done. We HAVE to speak with one voice, a strong voice, that what we believe is right, no matter the consequences.

So, OK, the sentiment is all in the right place and all, the message is POWERFUL, and for THIS WEEK ONLY, I will look past the raging homophobia that has marked his career so far, but really, has he ever had a rap that actually FLOWS? And the beats are just SAD. Doesn't anyone remember the Bomb Squad or Jam Master Jay? Seriously, after VH1 devoted a whole week to the history of rap, listening to this song leaves me totally flat. I have no axe to grind with Eminem. As I said, good for him.
And excuse me bro, but who the fuck are YOU?
You think you know me? You think you know what I truly believe in? You know how much money I have given to campaigns these past two years? You know how much grief I have gotten for being against this administration and this war?
No you don't.
And no, we don't have to speak with one clear, strong voice. We can speak in a million, bajillion different voices. We can say and do and think and wear whatever the fuck we want, because progressivism isn't about adhering to some pre-packaged corporatized mindset, the last time I checked.
So how about YOU leave the petty shit at the door, friend.

I thought you were talking about GWB, who is much much bigger thug than Eminem will ever be.

Great minds and all. That was my first comment on Hullabaloo after seeing the video.
It would so freak out the opposition.

Guys,
Here in West Texas some local DAs are "reminding voters not to wear paraphernalia to the polls" and that "electioneering" is a Class C felony. Fine's up to $5 K.
Luckily, Lubbock High and Texas Tech both have black as a major school color.
Hey Tena, are they still putting hospital smocks on voters in Cowboys shirts in Arlington?

Think about this before you cast your vote.
Look at the following list of names and consider who they would most likely vote for if they were allowed to vote in our coming election,
Martin Luther King
Abraham Lincoln
Thomas Jefferson
Benjamin Franklin
Thomas Paine
Gandhi
Eleanor Roosevelt
Robert Kennedy
Nelson Mandela
Bishop Tutu
The Lorax
When you cast your vote will you be voting the same way as you think the above people will vote?
How closely aligned with these people will you be

P.S For the clueless here - wearing hoodies is NOT some kind of homage to Eminem (I barely know/care who the dude is). However the simbolism of political revolution through voting is a powerful statement - one I want to support.

I just saw the video yesterday...very powerful. My older son will be voting for the first time. He was thinking of going with a 3rd party candidate. I told him that sometimes, when you have a choice between corruption and good governance, you have to decide which is more important to you: voting 3rd party, or getting rid of corruption? He decided on a vote for Kerry.

i am in Chicago, where voter suppression attempts (at least in my 'hood) are unlikely, so i don't expect Tuesday to be exciting, especially as i am getting there at the crack o poll opening.
But i AM taking my camera, just in case i need to documant any rethuglican kkkrap.

Thinking about it -- I have a black fleece hooded jacket that's close enough in look. Probably nobody at my tiny little hole in the wall polling place would recognize the reference though.

Are you taking your camera to stand outside the polling place and watch for outdoor intimidation?
Or are you intending to take it inside the polling place when you vote?
I ask because Tena was posting warnings all over the place here yesterday: do not try to take a camera with you INTO your polling place. It's illegal in more places than not, and they can make you leave the premises. Wouldn't want that to happen before you cast your vote!

We voted in comfy PJs & sweatpants, 'cause we had vote-by-mail ballots. Went to the Post Office late at night in sweats (sorry, no hoodies, still too warm in Phoenix that night).
But we did a little dance around the post office mailbox after thrusting our ballots inside. Did the "Crawford Stomp," and the "Kerry Constitutional" and the "Wave Bye-Bye to W Waltz," and many other faves. Went for a late night bite afterwards, and made up many more names for celebratory dances the whole time.

I'd love to see Kerry make a public appearance in a black hoodie.
Eminem calls Bush and Kerry out at the end of Mosh: " And as we proceed, to mosh through this desert storm, in these closing statements, if they should argue, let us beg to differ, as we set aside our differences, and assemble our own army, to disarm this weapon of mass destruction that we call our president, for the present, and mosh for the future of our next generation, to speak and be heard, Mr. President, Mr. Senator"
What better way to say, "I hear you," than to don a black hoodie. It could be a very powerful symbolic gesture to the MTV generation.

Yes I will wear mine to vote in New York City, and I know thousands like me willb too. It'll be noticeable in the crowded streets and subways here. It could make a difference in GOTV (which isn't a real problem in solid-blue NY state).
Maybe reporting on hoodie-voting + hoodie wearing until Tuesday, nationwide, can help GOTV everywhere.

My daughter says I can wear one of hers. A Greenday, a Hurley, or a Soulfly. Which one do I chose?
I've been wearing mine for years (though sometimes a red one). I wore it when I voted this week. As I was walking to the poll a carload of kids nodded and waved. One flashed a peace sign, I answered with a fist. They drove off honking, fists raised through the windows.
Funny how the PC left was all slaggin on M a little while ago cuz he uses words people use in the street. If these last few years have shown us something it should be that it doesn't matter what anyone says -it's what they do in their lives. I hope the left remembers this after next week (LANDSLIDE!!!) and embraces all the cultures that exist side by side in this land. That's what we should really be about. Our interference in people's lives should be positive and empowering, not a lot of tut-tutting about their vocabulary. If we are going forward from here (ousting the chimp isn't enough) we need to embrace the dirt and the rudeness that surrounds most dissaffected americans, listen to people who say things in ways we find offensive, open our minds to all experiences and value them. The other guys are the ones who always need to be condemning.

One of the people in my office has really been on the fence about who to vote for--which has been making me nuts. Yesterday another 50ish co-worker like me came in and started talking about the video. The fence sitter hadn't seen it (she's mid 30's), but got all over me about my earlier criticism of Marshall. "I'll support his messages I agree with, and not the others"---upshot is, she went and watched the video, came back to my office and said simply "I'm getting a hoodie for Tuesday!" Whatever it takes, whatever it takes.

Lolly - thanks for the link!
NJBrad - we have to be "so analytical," because, in the reality based community, we tend to like to have all our facts, and give credit where credit is due. To point out the similarity's to our own side's MoveOn's video was not counterproductive to our cause in the least.
Going soley for the emotional response, and disregarding any incomnvenient study of the underlying facts underneath the image - that's the other side.

...with a spraypainted circle-A, muthafuckas!! [sorry, got a little old-school there for a second]
what's the official what-to-wear - zip front or pullover?
seriously, i realize this voting thing is serious business, but you gotta laugh because otherwise you go crazy...maybe it's too late for me.
if it freaks out some rethuglican pinhead - more power to me.
see you tuesday!

My neighborhoodie says "Dungeon Master" on it (think "big geek," not "creepy SM guy"). I'll wear it to the polls on Tuesday, but I'll probably not wear it when I go door-to-door later in the day.

If you can. After voting go to Repub districts and just hang around outside with your hoodie on.
Just be visible.
I guarantee you'll dissuade a least a few neo-fascist cowards from getting out of the car for the bushkid.

I'm an attorney and will be volunteering to work the polls for the DNC's Voter Protection Project. Wanted to wear my hoodie, then read Steve Gilliard's piece on proper attire for attorneys; I think a great compromise will be nice wool slacks, a black blazer, and a hoodie t-shirt underneath. Elegant, authoritative, understated--but down for the cause. I CAN'T WAIT TO VOTE!
