Interesting

Salt is good.

But spice is nice.

LANDSLIDE!

GravatarYessss!!!!!!!!

Love you all!

GravatarZogby is saying PA and VA are tied? WTF? Is this exit polling or state polls?

Click on homepage for Zogby.

Gravatari thought it was the repub's who voted in the morning... if that's the best they can do, they're fucked.

but please... kick em while they're down!

GravatarWho really thought MN was ever "in play"?

HAHA!

WI, though. That's a shock.

Kerry will have to start and host a concert series there for 4 years.

GravatarI think Jerome is being slashdotted.

GravatarY IS EVERYONE SO DOWN? WHY THE SALT?

IF YOU LOOK @ BREAKDOWN, KERRY IS DOING EXTREMELY WELL IN SWING STATES.

IF DEMS STILL HAVE TO COME OUT AND VOTE AFTER WORK.....LANDSLIDE BABY?

AM I MISSING SOMETHING PEOPLE?

GravatarHoly crap

GravatarIs that toaster at least plugged in yet?

GravatarNo, no, no.

Don't think that way. Not yet. GOTV.

GravatarMars! Bitches!!

GravatarFind a republican give them a paper bag and tell them to breathe slowly. It's going to be a good night to be a Dem.

GravatarLocal news here in Louisville, KY is reporting fake phone calls are going out around the county informing voters that the polls are staying open until 8:00 PM.

THIS IS NOT TRUE. Polls close in Kentucky at 6:00 pm. Just FYI.

GravatarI don't know about slashdotted--but definitely Drudged. Zogby is predicting a surprise in Virginia....

GravatarJerome may have them, but he's connected to the internet with a string tied to a paper cup.

THEY CALL ME PASTABAGEL

GravatarGreat! I hope The Hague stays open for business long enough for George to receive a fair trial.

What should his sentence be?

GravatarThat zogby prediction is as of Nov 1 at 5:00 PM.

GravatarKICK 'EM WHILE THEY'RE DOWN AND DON'T EVER STOP!!!!!

GravatarDrudge is saying Kerry is in "striking distance". I'd say President Kerry rolled far by striking distance several hours ago.

To quote the vernacular: MARS BITCHES!!!

Maybe tommorow I can begin my life anew - without the drug known as Atrios.

GravatarAtrios, could you make a real html table out of those? It's hard to try to align the numbers in the middle.

GravatarIt's still early.

GravatarLooking good.

Don't stop until we cross the finish line. We're shooting for a total landslide here, a complete and utterly humiliating defeat of all things GOP.

Keep pushing.

GravatarTHEY SHALL NOT PASS

GravatarEvan,

It's going to be a good night for anyone who cares about our country if Kerry can win, Democrat, Repub. (with any sense and they still exist), and Indy.

GravatarShane--no he has a scroll on his site stamped 11:43 11-02-2004.

GravatarGoogle news just had an article which claims that early returns indicate Bush. I couldn't open it. The server was busy. This doesnt square with the exit polls listed above.

Yes... the caps lock key. It's right next to the 'A', there....

I mean that in fun of course. I think that these numbers (if true) are good news for Kerry.

GravatarKos has the NH numbers the other way. Who's got it right?

GravatarMARS BITCHES!1!!1

GravatarLow numbers in the morning,
Republicans take warning....

Higher percentage D in the night,
Democracy's delight.

LET FREEDOM REIGN

GravatarZogby is saying PA and VA are tied? WTF? Is this exit polling or state polls?

I'm Zogby's numbers are his last regular polls, not exit polls.

These numbers don't mean nuttin'. Though I can't resist a moment's exhalation. The close-of-polls exit data's important, though, because that's what we need to compare to the Dieboldized numbers.

Gravatarbitches mah bitches we are gathered here today to comemorate the passing of George W Bush. Rot In Hell etc....

GravatarYou'll all recall that blind faith in exit polling was the start of the disaster in Florida 2000.

And look at IA. 48-48? Are you kidding? Look at the 2000 margin in IA. Either Kerry is winning in a landslide completely undetected by 3 months of daily polling, or maybe, just maybe, exit polls taken at 2:00pm are worthless.

THEY CALL ME PASTABAGEL

GravatarAh well... tried to table it, but apparently el blogo allows it not.

GravatarMid-afternoon exit polling of Freerepublic.com shows a potential landslide for George Bush.

Gravataritto?: um, not for me, Haloscan doesn't do tables like that.

Gravatar"Tuesday, November 02, 2004
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Some Allegheny County polling places, apparently overwhelmed with new voters who are not on the registration rolls, have been running out of provisional ballots today.

County elections director Mark Wolosik said the biggest problem in today's balloting was that some precincts were running out of the ballots, which are given to voters whose names do not show up on the polling place lists for whatever reason."

AND

"Tuesday, November 02, 2004
Associated Press

In Mercer County, some voters were apparently having problems today with new electronic voting machines the county started using about two years ago, said Commissioner Olivia M. Lazor.

Voters using the new voting machines apparently were voiding their votes by accident while trying to review them and having to redo their ballots. The delays caused longer lines than normal.

"We have a lot of brand new voters, first time voters and unfamiliarity with the machines," Lazor said. She said officials were giving the voters the option of using paper ballots, where people vote by checking boxes."

GravatarMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, Salt!

GravatarMid-afternoon exit polling shows a potential landslide for George Bush.

Yes, as he's buried alive in Kerry votes.

GravatarWell what happens if all the Dems are so energized they all vote in the morning? Maybe we're spending our bullets early?

Well I did my part.

MARS BITCHES!! MARS! AND PHOBOS!

GravatarFirst, the formatting of the numbers is not ok.

Second, no matter the outcome, THANK YOU for this blog. It has kept me sane.

You're the best.

Gravatarall your vote are belong to us

GravatarJust listened to fifteen seconds of Limbaugh. He knows it's over. Complaining about all the new "uninformed" voters.

GravatarStay away from exit polls!

It might be Rove's work to push his base to go out to vote cause Kerry might be leading, and some Kerry voters could stay home because they could think that Kerry doesn't need them to wait 2 hours in the rain to vote.

I'm going for a nap, avoiding all exit polls, back at 7pm for the real thing.

Don't forget The Daily Show live 10-11 pm tonight. Kerry might become president during the show!!!! Bush will be fired!!! oh joy!!!!

GravatarThe world is watching.......

And the world is VERY nervous!

GravatarTHEY CALL ME PASTABAGEL

COATTAILS, BITCHES.

GravatarMid-afternoon exit polling shows a potential landslide for George Bush.

Yes, Bush is being buried by the Kerry landslide.

Did you catch Oliphant today?

It's snowing in Lubbock, Texas, today. That's Bush country. Don't expect those red-state rednecks to turn out in record numbers in a snowstorm. So much for Unka Karl's "Lose the electoral college but win the popular vote" strategy.

GravatarAtrios, could you make a real html table out of those?

Or just run the numbers in a monospaced font, using (for instance) a CODE tags?

GravatarCheck out this post from LGF.

One of the workers checking names at my polling place was a young Muslim woman, dressed in full hijab, probably from the Saudi-funded King Fahd mosque nearby.

One responce -- Sorry that that had to happen to you! It would freak me out! Big time.

What a bunch of racist fucks.

GravatarI am so excited, we're going to do it!

Thanks, Atrios!

GravatarFirst we're going to Mercury! Then We're going to Venus! Then We're going to Mars BITCHES!

Then, George, We're going to URANUS! YEARRRRGHHHHHH

GravatarJust came back from the beautiful Berridge precinct at high noon, Phoenix time. Thru a variety of calculations, it's looking very much like about an 80% or more turnout, with at least a 5% registration increase. This is a phenomenal turnout given that the sample ballot took me two days to fill out in advance and a good fifteen minutes to actually vote. Many, many many-holed young types, many people on their lunch break. Seven more hours.

Gravatar"And look at IA. 48-48? Are you kidding? Look at the 2000 margin in IA. Either Kerry is winning in a landslide completely undetected by 3 months of daily polling, or maybe, just maybe, exit polls taken at 2:00pm are worthless."

As I recall, in 2000 it was 49-48. So why is 48-48 so ridiculous?

Gravatar"And look at IA. 48-48? Are you kidding? Look at the 2000 margin in IA. Either Kerry is winning in a landslide completely undetected by 3 months of daily polling, or maybe, just maybe, exit polls taken at 2:00pm are worthless."

sorry, little excited there.

and ya know.

we are all going to mars!!!

yup salt-tequila=gooood.

though i am SDA.

GravatarHolden Caulfield

Its a bit North, but the point still
stands, Hell has frozen over heh.

GravatarJust got a peak at Bush's concession speech:

"The call me Pastabagel. Waaaa!"

GravatarKos has the same numbers, lined up better. And he has the NH numbers the same as these, Kerry crushing.

I don't care about these numbers, wherever they come from: Kerry will crush for all the reasons we already know -- the polls showing a tied race mean Kerry has won; Gore won in 2000 and nobody has defected from Gore to Bush whereas millions have defected from Bush to Kerry; Bush has lost the support of "real" (non-neo) conservatives; and, the facts have a liberal bias. I'm nervous because I have to be, but I'm not worried.

Oh yeah, except for those touch screen machines . . .

Gravatar"Kerry voters could stay home because they could think that Kerry doesn't need them to wait 2 hours in the rain to vote."

Tangerine:

There are no Kerry voters who are going to stay home, not this year, we are motivated and even California is going to have records turnout.

LANDSLIDE BABY.

GravatarI'm trying to keep it together, but I've had a big silly grin on my face while trying to fight back the tears for about the past hour and I want to dance in the aisles here at work.

Damn!

I think we're going to get our country back!

Gravatarlandslide

GravatarPS: Has anyone else not done a DAMN thing at work today? My eyes are glued to this machine?

GravatarOops, I mean:

My eyes are glued to this machine.

=)

GravatarGardenho, guilty as charged.

GravatarPay no attention to exit polls!
Run like we're behind!
GOTV!
I'm in Wisconsin, and as soon as I get off work in a couple hours I'm going to go vote and then knock on Kerry-friendly doors and make sure they voted.

4th Rock from the Sun Bitches!!

Gravatar"Zogby is predicting a surprise in Virginia...."

Now THAT would be sweet. Bush is deadmeat if that happens....

Gravatar LIBERALS, YOU MUST STOMP THEIR BRAINS THE FUCK OUT HOWEVER DISTASTEFUL IT MIGHT BE. THEY WILL CONTINUE TO DESTROY YOU. IF ANYONE THINKS THAT GAYS WILL SATISFY THEM, WELL, GAYS HAVE SURVIVED MUCH WORSE FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS AND WE'RE STILL HERE. THOSE LIKE YOU WONT SURVIVE THEIR FASCISM. YOU BETTER START REALLY FIGHTING BACK.

Sure, go ahead and prove my point.

Gravatarshy,

seriously, i was just kidding... i couldn't let the opportunity for a cheap joke slide.

we're all really excited, i'm sure everyone understood.

GravatarDon't forget that some states, like IA, have a hefty early vote with a huge lead for Kerry. I assume that's not included in these exit polls.

OTOH the early Dem vote may diminish the traditional late-Dem vote count. We just have to wait and hope. But so far it's looking gooood!

And I'm off soon to push that IA Kerry vote count UP!

Gravatarabyssgazer, You're speaking for us all!

Wheeee!!!

GravatarGardenho

Ssssshhhhhhhhh!

GravatarErie Times goerie.com

Velma Moore has been voting in presidential elections since Hoover was the name of a candidate, not a dam.

The 101-year-old Lawrence Park Township resident has helped put six Democrats in the Oval Office since she first voted in 1928.

She'd like to make it seven.

Moore, a resident of Twinbrook Medical Center, cast her 20th ballot for a president last Tuesday when she filled out her absentee ballot for John Kerry.

GravatarFaith, bitches!

Okay, anyway, 2PM polls are crap. Wait till 7PM to even look.
Kerry will carry.

Gravatarignore those (beautiful) numbers! GOTV! GOTV!

GravatarA little more from Velma

Velma Moore said people need to vote if they want to get something done in this country.

"I can't tell you how to vote," she said with a twinkle in her eye.

But then the devoted Democrat added with a smile, "You don't want to vote for Bush."

GravatarSeniors vote during the day, young working people in the evening. It's not problem.

Gravatar""Zogby is predicting a surprise in Virginia....""

Sooooooo, Hecate's at work.

GravatarThanks to the distraction of the polls, I'm making all kinds of mistakes where I work here at the Nuclear Power Plant today!

Doh!

GravatarTrue. My Dept. chair here in Berkeley called in to say he'll be late because there was a huge line at his polling place. And you *know* that Dubya will come in fifth here, just as Reagan did.

GravatarNope, no work for me either Gardenho -- in fact, I took the day off I have become so obsessed by this election. And I haven't really been all that focused since Thursday really.

Gravatarheh, I'm with Vicki and Gardenho on the work thing.
I keep having phone calls that go like this:

User: Hi, I'm having some computer problems.

Me: ok, have u voted yet?

User: What's that got to-

Me: It has to do with how long it will take me to fix your problem. If you haven't voted yet, it could be a looooong time before I get there

dial tone....

GravatarI know you don't get excited about these numbers, but Wisconson and Minnesota an Ohio are supposed to be battleground states right?

Kerry voters are kicking ass. Yeah baby, GOTV more, more, more, more. Pile on bitches.

GravatarAs long as you're sitting there not working, watch a movie.

Gravatargoerie.com

Donald Dolph doesn't let age, location or mobility stop him from voting for the man he wants to lead the United States of America.

Dolph is 97. He lives at Twinbrook Medical Center, a skilled nursing facility. He uses a wheelchair.
...
Dolph wouldn't say which candidate he chose. But the longtime Republican did admit to some Twinbrook staff members that he was leaning toward the Democrat this time around because the Republicans had made a mess of things.

These right wing fucks prove time and time again that they have NO idea what they're talking about.

GravatarMid-afternoon exit polling shows a potential landslide for George Bush.

BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

Oh, that hurt my sides I laughed so hard...

As the song goes, "Dream on, dreamer!"

GravatarGardenho,

I thought only Republicans worked?

Ha.

GravatarCongatulations!

As an old Republican, it gives me great joy to see Bush ousted. His incompetence shone through, and he rejected the principles that Repubs love. He's not up the job, couldn't follow the thread, ending up a pawn, a despot, probably a bit crazy for the stress. At any rate, thank you Democrats for moblizing, thank you for caring, thank you for being what George W so wanted, but failed, to be. A Patriot. Or Patriots in your case. I'm an agnostic at best but gotta toss in a secular God Bless You. Thank you very much. The world thanks you very much.

Still Conservative, and loving Kerry just for that. RTL

GravatarAnonymous, sadly, you're only embarassing yourself. It's NOT INTERESTING!

I doubt that they're doing detailed enough exit polling to pick up how Bowles is doing... and I'd eat my hat if Kerry took NC, so probably no good news from there until later this PM.

GravatarSeriously -- how will the Republicans
justify losing the faith of the
American people?

Who's the mainstream now?

GravatarIt occurs to me that Democrats probably go to the polls earlier in Florida, and Later in OH, PA and IA.

GravatarAnd when we can say "President Kerry"...ooooooh chills...., well, when we can say it, it's time to remake this party into the party of the vast majority -- LIBERALS! That's right...we are the majority!

GravatarHello again, don't forget that a fair amount of Republicans agree with you all. Reagan/Lincoln/Clinton Republicans . Huh? Yup, Clinton, cause Bubba coopted the moderate Repub's platform, pushing my stupid party, or the leaders' of it, to the far right. So, be nice to a Repub tomorrow, forgive his or sorry butt, because today is Revolution Day, the silent majority hath now spoken. And bye bye Bushie it is. Yeehaw!

did the lgf'ers know that bush is related to the saudis?

those stupid f---s.

GravatarMore from the Little Green Dillweeds:

"Permitting Islam in America violates everything that Susan B. et al worked to achieve for women's rights and safety."

The idiocy of this comment aside (this was a woman working at a polling place, so it seems like she's living up to the suffragists), the poster fails to realize that not "permitting" a religion in this country violates a little thing I like to call the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

GravatarMore should have been done in Colorado.

GravatarTHEY CALL DODGSON

Methinks Pastabagel has already forgotten how to properly space and kern numbers, since he's so completely off the mark. And he's forgotten that the early vote traditionally favors the GOP.

THEY CALL ME DODGSON

GravatarDon't worry guys!!

We are gonna win big!!!

GravatarAll I can say is, do not underestimate the power of the dark side of the Force.

GravatarThe exit polls are making my nipples hard. Please tell me my long nightmare is over.....

GravatarKERRY IN A LANDSLIDE!

GravatarIMHO, I think we should ignore these numbers as much as possible and keep our eye on the prize. Who knows? (not to be pessimistic but meant to be inspiring for GOTV) Maybe all of us were like kids at Christmas this morning, jumping out of bed to vote and the numbers are a bit skewed? Just GOTV!

GravatarHi, loves! Just ran home for a few minutes to grab a bite to eat and then back out to fight the good fight.

Interesting fact: The planet Mars has decended and now occupies the space formerly known as Arlington, Virgnia. Yes, indeed, Arlington, Virginia is Mars, my sweet bitches. I told you we were going to turn Virginia blue.

What will you tell your grandchildren that you did in the Great Election of 2004? Get on metro and come hold up a sign in Northern Virginia! We've got time to remind the rush hour commuters to take their country back!

Arlington, Virginia, my sweet bitches!

GravatarI figured it out. Pastabagel thinks IA = Indiana.

GravatarLook--exit polls aren't "widely inaccurate" like some would have you believe. Absentee ballots and early voting won't make up a 5 or 6 point lead in exit polling.

GravatarBush's concession speech:

"My God, my God...why have you forsaken me?"

(Jesus still loves you, Georgie - however, millions of Americans think you're an asshole!)

Gravatarpb, if you shorten Kerry's name or lengthen Bush's (Shrub?) the numbers will line up just fine. Holoscan seems to condense spaces.

GravatarFrom the Good Doctor HST:

George McGovern called Saturday night from New Orleans and said he was ready to rumble.

"This is it, Hunter. This is the day we've been waiting for all our lives," he cackled. "Nixon was nothing compared to these bastards. This is the most important election of my lifetime, including my own race.

Hunter predicits John Kerry will come out on top in the presidential election.

"What do you think is going to happen on Tuesday?"

"I think Kerry will win," I answered.

"Yes, I think so, too. He is about the greatest thing since God created you and me," he laughed.

His voice became serious then, and he said, "I think he is a good guy."

"Yes, I think he will be a good president," I said.

"So do I," he answered.

"By the way," I said, "Tell Eleanor that I still have a crush on her."

"That's good. I'll tell her that on Sunday, which is our 61st wedding anniversary. We got married on Halloween."

I could tell he was smiling over the phone.

"Eleanor is still trying to figure out if it was a trick or a treat," he said.

*****

It is now Tuesday, and John Kerry is looking good today, while George Bush is looking a little desperate. His eyes are wild and his voice is shrill and he is acting more and more like a doomed animal on its way to the meat-grinder. Young George is about to lose his first election.

JFK will win this one decisively enough to make any recounts or challenges irrelevant. If Kerry wins New Hampshire and Pennsylvania and Florida, for instance, this election will be over before it really gets started.

Kerry will win big today. I guarantee it. The evil Bush family of central Texas is about to suffer another humiliating failure on another disastrous election day.

And I knew it Sunday after returning from Los Angeles, where I had been campaigning for Kerry, my friend. Football and politics were never so fatally linked as they were when the Washington Redskins lost to the Green Bay Packers that day. It was all over after that.

The sun has come up over the Rockies and the time has come to drive into town and vote aggressively for my man, who will win this election handily. And the Democrats will regain control of both houses of Congress. That is all I know right now, and all I need to know.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. We will march on a road of bones.

Mahalo.

GravatarOk, using the LA Times DO-IT-YOURSELF Electoral Vote Project-a-Bulator and inputting these results AND giving georgie HI, NJ, IA AND AR Kerry still comes out ahead 285 to 253.

The stipulation is that we need FL.

BUT if we LOSE FL, we only need HI and NJ to come up with 277 to 261.

Furthermore, we can even lose HI, keep NJ but still win with 273 to 265.

Gravatarhey,

i was just checking the nro and they have 57 reasons from the staff why jk won't win today. funny that many of their examples look like the reasons he will win today. 300+ EVs or bust. mars beeatchessssss!!!

GravatarKERRY IN A LANDSLIDE!!!!!

TODAY IS OUR INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!!

GravatarExit Polls are not going to be drastically different from final result. Remember the democratic primary exit numbers? Almost in every case, whoever was winning the first exit polls ended up winning anyway.

SO I think it's worth worrying about the states that are under 5 points difference mainly

Gravatarwell, I certainly hope I am part of the effort to turn Virginia blue -- was also out at the polls voting for our next president at 7 am.

GravatarThere may not be much difference between Democrats and Republicans; I have made that argument myself—with considerable venom, as I recall—over the past ten months…. But only a blind geek or a waterhead could miss the difference between McGovern and Richard Nixon. Granted, they are both white men; and both are politicians—but the similarity ends right there, and from that point on the difference is so vast that anybody who can't see it deserves whatever happens to them if Nixon gets re-elected due to apathy, stupidity, and laziness on the part of potential McGovern voters.

GravatarI don't know exactly what more could have been done in Colorado -- volunteers were tripping over each other. Nonetheless, I say it's not over. Am going now to join others in the rapid response team. Voting isn't over. Exit polls are just polls. Do they even include the very heavy early voting in this state?

GravatarHow 'bout instead of "get over it!" we tell the Repugs "it's God's will!"

I mean, after all, if George is there by the Grace of God, then, if he's voted out, wouldn't that be by Sky Dada's machinations as well?

Or is even that simple logic too reality-based for the thumpers?

According to several reputable sources, the Allegheny County GOP HQ in Pittsburgh just had lost power. Because the office building at 125 Seventh Street is without power, telephones, computers, and other office machines are unusable, a huge blow to Bush supporters hoping to remain competitive tonight in this key area of the country. While it is still not clear the cause of this electrical problem, politics could potentially be a factor. The Democrat Headquarters across the street and other surrounding buildings are said to be with power...

GravatarColorado is a hard sell. Not that big an EV payoff for campaigning harder than we did. It was nearly impossible to miss a national commercial every commercial break. Kerry visited like 4 times. This state is full of transplanted older-school Repubs, who don't necessarily agree with Bush but are living their own cowboy-lifestyle fantasies. Not that I'm bitter or anything.

GravatarBreslin, this morning, farewell and goodbye - God Bless All Here

Why Kerry will beat Bush
Jimmy Breslin

November 2, 2004

One day last May, I assigned the election to John Kerry. I said it early, and often. As I looked more, I saw that it shouldn't even be close. I said that in this space more than once. Now I am so sure that I am not even going to bother to watch the results tonight. I am going to bed early, for I must rise in the darkness and pursue immediately an exciting, overdue project.

Besides, if I was up, so many people, upon seeing every word I said of this election coming true on television in front of them, would be kissing my hands and embarrassing me with outlandish praise. So I go to bed with total confidence. I will get up and stroll to other meadows. I invented this column form. I now leave, but will return here for cameo appearances. And I leave today as the only one in America who from the start was sure John Kerry would win by a wide margin. Let me tell you why.

This began when I noted that it was obvious, but overlooked that George Bush had lost the last election by 500,000 votes. He was close enough in Florida for it to be stolen in court.

The reason he was close was that Ralph Nader had 125,000 votes in Florida, most of whom would have voted for Gore.

Anybody who had voted for Gore four years ago would never vote for Bush.

So Bush started this campaign behind 500,000 votes.

Nor is there Nader. He has reduced himself to being the village idiot.

When I figured in the people shocked by the dead bodies of young Americans in Iraq, and brutalized here by unemployment, there was no way to make the election seem close. I said this in this newspaper several times.

Each time as I was typing, the words of the late great Harry (Champ) Segal kept shouting in my ear:

"Go naked on this one!"

When published reports showed a million new voter registrations in Florida and about 800,000 in Ohio, I made the election a lock. They were not rushing out for George Bush. And these poll takers were ignoring them. Any part of a million votes in Florida, most of them of color, would sweep the state.

The reporters said the nation was divided. They were afraid to say anything that might upset this view. You've been had by the news industry. Not once, even after the first debate when Kerry scored a technical knockout, did they take a step and call it as it happened. "War of Words" was the closest they could come.

Finally, one thing kept clawing at you. Cell phones. Long I have wondered how many there were. Everybody I know, smart people, politicians, news directors, thought that there were, oh, 40 million or so. I call the cell phone institute in Washington last Sept. 12. They told me that there were 165 million cell phones in use in the United States, That is 165,000,000. One month later, I asked again. It was up to 170 million -- 170,000,000. Yes, a great number also had land lines. But o

This is not exactly a billboard in Times Square, and the nation's attention is not exactly riveted to this "billboard." We can enjoy or despair over exit poll numbers here, without exhorting people to GOTV. If the people who find their way here don't have that message by now, it's too late to give it to 'em.

Gonna be interesting to see what the numbers show over the day. So far they support the thesis that heavy turnout favors the Dems. Be interesting to see what's happening in state races....

GravatarOT - Lord, have mercy. Bush is clearly losing; this is unsurprising to me. Check out today's freerepublic.com "Pray for President Bush" shows the desperation with which Bushists believe that God will smite John Kerry and miraculously return Bush to power:

"Hear us, Merciful Sovereign, as we cry out to Thee from before Your Throne of Glory, pleading for Your Unmerited Favor to be shed Abundantly upon our unworthy Nation this day. We do not deserve that which we seek, but appeal to Thee on the basis of the Infinite Merit of Christ the Only Savior...O Sovereign God of Justice, come and deliver us this day! ...See Your cherished children, kneeling in Worship before You now, interceeding on behalf of their countrymen; see our tears, my King, and feel the anguish of our Redeemed hearts as we lament the iniquity all around us, and yet adjure Thee by Christ to be Merciful, to remember Thy Pity in Righteous Judgement. Pardon our iniquities, O Lord and Master of Grace, for the sake of Thy little ones who are pleading before Thy Throne...We are guilty, O Lord our God; we make no excuse for our wickedness and depravity, for the iniquitous defense of perversion, for the merciless slaughter of the unborn. We stand condemned and worthy of severest Judgement, but, O Father of Limitless Mercies, revive us once again! We beg for Thy Sovereign Spirit to fall upon our America, for the sake of the Godly and the Patriots who went before us, save us, Lord of Life, our Blessed Redeemer! Your children are pleading and crying before Thee; our Nations Patriots would with importunity implore Thee: show us Thy Mercies, our Great God and King of Infinite Love!"

Sheer, utter madness. I call for a ban of kool-aid and rat poison immediately. The Bushist cult is already unhinged; Lord knows what they'll be up to tonight.

GravatarI won't believe it until I hear Bush concession speach. In his mine either he will win, or he will win. Be prepared for a Code Red Level alert round about 4pm.

Someone described it as a torturously long Christmas Eve, where kids are wide awake in their beds, waiting for the sun to crack over the horizon so the boys and girls can run and see what Santa brought.

That said, I've had the Zen koan in my head all day about how would one wrap a landslide.

GravatarAnd Americans go to the polls to elect a president for the first time since 1996...

GravatarOhio News

MSNBC is reporting that a judge has issued a ruling regarding provisional ballots and absentee voters.

There are several (numbering in the thousands) people who had asked for an absentee ballot that never arrived. They were told that if they went to a polling place instead, they would not even be given a provisional ballot: they would not be allowed to vote at all.

A judge has ruled that these people must be given provisional ballots.

Appeals expected, but for now, chalk up another one for the good guys.

GravatarResults???
Promising for Kerry??

Right, because Karl Rove would never leak anything that causes democrats to get lazy and complacent and not vote.

More evidence that the GOP is blowing their whole wad on 2004. Even if they were to win, they'd be faced with a pissed off electorate in 2006/08 with this strategy of challenging voters. I wonder what GOP senators who are up in 2006 think of Karl's strategy. Success or no success in 2004, it's gonna bring them much pain in 2006 and beyond.

all weekend i was stressed out because i had a review coming up this morning w/ my boss that felt like it was timed as a response to some frustrations he's been having with my performance at work. then when i voted early this morning on the way to work, i felt this almost transcendent lifting of worry and stress from my shoulders. i had, as my shrink would say, "acted on my own behalf." whatever the outcome, it was the best therapy i've had in about 4 years. it made my review later in the morning much more bearable. i feel like i'm going to start getting some work done around here for a change...

i would recommend staying off the roads late tonight when everyone's done voting...i predict some serious drunken revelry across the nation, and the roads are a litte slippery right now.

GravatarHey Rethugs,

Democrat is not an adjective.

Got it?

Now shut up and lose.

GravatarThis is making me weep for joy. Hope Diebold stays out of it.

GravatarBased on the turnout I've seen and heard about in CA and NY, two states that are decided already, I can see a Kerry landslide tonight.

GravatarMaybe I'm reading something into it, but Brit Hume was just on Fox and he didn't look like a happy camper. Remember, these jokers already have raw exit data.

GravatarIt's like watching a sporting event championship that's gone on for 6 months.

The crowd is going nuts but you can't see the field!

Gravatar Check out today's freerepublic.com "Pray for President Bush"

And when Caligula loses, get this:

We can tell them it was God's will. And there's just nothing they can say to that.

GravatarThey were right after all. The RAPTURE is about to occur - the pure rapture of watching JFK being carried to victory on the shoulders of an aroused and angry American public. We shall mount up with wings like eagles, we shall run and not be weary, we shall walk and not faint.

GravatarPERL compared to C is like excellent vegetable biryani versus tofu and rice.

GravatarMy paper has announced that locally there is a huge voter turnout, three times what it has been in the past. Some places have run out of ballots. And.....it is raining.

GravatarI once did some c programming by copying the format of some c code I was attempting to modify. I would just try different numbers of *'s and things on the variables until the complier stopped coffing blood.

Hmmm...

GravatarWe need photos of all of the rethug challengers.

We need to have all of the Rethugs who subvert democracy serve jail time.

The'll love the prison industrial complex they created.

If we find out where these rethgs serve we should pay people on the inside to assure they (rethug prisoners)are tossing salad all day long.

After all they should have a taste of the system they created.

GravatarIf you've posted here and haven't voted yet, please go vote, your country needs you now more than ever.

I'm saying this to even the trolls here, go fucking vote, otherwise don't bother posting until the next election.

If you're not sure who to vote for there's something called the Internet. You can look up who is running and then find out what they've done and what they may do.

GravatarI'm fully prepared to vomit if Kerry loses this.

Good news but I don't trust exit polls as far as I can throw them.

And you can't throw an exit poll because, well, what the fuck would you be throwing?

GravatarYO Judy Woodruff, STOP CALLING PENNSYLVANIA A BATTLEGROUND!

Was just doing MoveOnPAC stuff at local polling place here in West Philly. Already surpassed TOTAL vote in that precinct from 2000.

Ed Rendell stopped by & rumor was that Clinton was at a nearby precinct.

GravatarAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!

This roughly describes my approach to Perl Only difference is that the interpreter does the choking.

Why, oh why, god, aren't there any jobs out there for an OCaml programmer? Seriously, god. C# is getting old. Please?

GravatarI hope that the wingnuts choose to meet their maker.

They can make their own rapture, just a shot of kool-aid.

GravatarImagine the chagrin and mortification of all those rightwingnut Talking Heads on FAUX NEWS and other cable TV as well as the HATE RADIO crowd led by Flush Limbo, if Kerry trounces Bushboy!!!

It will mean that all their pontifications, lies and exhortations will have gone for nought!

It will mean that the vast majority of America consider them the twisted spinmeisters that they are!

It will mean we can laugh at them and ridicule them for at least four years and probably eight!

GravatarWell, I guess I can use the pitchfork in the garden, but what the hell am I going to do with all these torches?

GravatarJudy Woodruff is added to the enemies list.

GravatarOver at The Corner, they're reporting that Brit Hume has confirmed that their exit polls show Kerry ahead, too.

Gravatarint argc,
you ever tried constructing a wiki?

GravatarPERL

I like PERL do to its ease at doing string analysis (bioinformatics). I've written a few things that are glitchy, and it seems to be the language not my code. Very frustrating.

Gravatarecoast, that was what I was thinking of too. Take with a grain of salt... [and a squeeze of lime and a shot of Jose Cuervo].

Ptui! Jose Cuervo? Wouldn't put that in my toilet.

Gravatar"what the hell am I going to do with all these torches?"
Tropical adventure paaarrtttyyyy!

GravatarSean Hannity is frothing. Apparently the power is out at GOP (but not Dem) HQ in Pittsburgh, and he all but blamed it on shenanigans. He is exhorting his listeners (like they're really undecideds) to go vote, because "the other guys" are GOTVing.

As if that weren't enough, he trotted out Newt Gingrich, and is now saying that the 2 PM exit polls are unfair because they were 59-41 skew for women. Well, what about Arizona's numbers?

Gravatarhere's another word of encouragement from a foreigner. pretty much everyone i know to the north of you is hoping beyond hope for a kerry victory. i can't remember ever being this into one of our own elections and i usually pay even less attention to yours.
i'll be buying a bottle of jameson's irish whiskey on the way home and sipping it right till the moment i toast kerry's victory. bon courage!

Gravatarlooing = looking. ARGH

Suggestion: if your garden's big enough, hold a post-election party and use the torches for lighting. Or for firing up a glass of that Italian liqueur you're supposed to drink having "flambeed" it a bit.

GravatarThere does seem to be some delirium up in here- please let's remember that there's a lot of time to go.
Promising initial polls- that's all.

But Kerry will prevail.

GravatarThis is my favorite Freeper comment:

Man, this is THE story of election day. These bogus numbers, and Drudge's Headline caused the OUR STOCK MARKET to dive 79 points!!!!! And they are screwed up numbers. The B/C campaign needs to get out now on every news outlet available and point out how the MSM is trying to SCREW our election.

How does he know if he doesn't trust the exit polls?
Stupid guy. These guys are exploding.
Hannity is turning to Newt for solace and comfort and Newt doesn't have much to give. Quite funny, but I also feel sad for these guys.

You know what gets me about this? They (and the Falwells, etc. who blamed 9-11 on America's "depravity") are implicitly using the doctrine of national guilt, which is a very Jewish concept. Jewish doctrine in the Old Testament was that they would be collectively punished by God for their behavior as a nation. They also believe(d) that if just one pious Jew could manage to perfectly conform to the Law for just one day, the Messiah would come.

CHRISTIANITY, on the other hand, is all about individual repentance and responsibility for one's OWN sins. Personal salvation, personal reward and punishment.

The notion of national guilt is almost a perversion of Christianity.

GravatarI am getting a lot of optimistic vibes from you lot. Being English means I have the loosest grasp of the voting system. It seems odd to say the least. Nevertheless, if it makes Kerry the president then I can rest easy. Please let me wake up to a new president. We want to be able to like America again. It was much more fun that way.

GravatarRaining hard in western PA, may hold down some late, tepid voters (repubs of course, how could any Kerry supporter be tepid this day).

Many precincts running out of provisional ballots as new voters aren't appearing on the rolls. Woman in front of me this morning had this very problem. I said: "what is this Cleveland?" she laughed.

GravatarNRO doesn't like it when the monster they created turns on them....

"NOT TO BE INDELICATE... [Jonah Goldberg]

but some of you angrier readers can kiss my Michael Moore if you know what I mean.

I know everyone's edgy. I know this is a tense time. The election's a big deal, blah, blah, blah. But none of it justifies some of the idiotic and nasty nonsense (a tiny minority of) you folks are hurling at me and/or us.

A few points directed solely at those people who need to hear it:

1. The exit numbers I posted were posted in order for me to debunk them. The Wonkette numbers are false. Or they are at least not exit poll numbers from today. It is possible, from what two sources tell me, that they are tallies of the early voting -- conducted by the Democrats. That's plausible.

2. On the posting of exit polls in general (an issue which NRO has been central to for five years), we do not have a monopoly over their publication. It's not like if we choose not to do it, that a dozen other sites won't go right ahead and do it anyway.

3. I have never been convinced that learning your guy is losing in a very tight race translates into lower turnout. It's entirely possible and in my mind probable that it gins up the bace to redouble its efforts. Moreover, the entire universe is not reading NRO and deciding to judge based upon our reports on exit polls.

I am making these points in order to rebut the deluge of angry, pissy emails I'm getting from people who make it sound like we're collaborating with the Nazis when we're simply doing our job. My apologies for wasting everyone else's time."

GravatarJonah Goldberg?

You mean LBJ's illegitimate son?

(Got that one from BartCop.com)

GravatarAnyone who saw the debates and could still vote for Bushboy had to be suffering from a serious case of DENIAL OF REALITY!!!

If ever someone was exposed as a fop, a fraud and an ignoramus it was Bushboy who tried to make faces and sloganeer his way out of a withering attack from Kerry.

It will downright refreshing to have a POTUS I'm not ashamed and embarrassed to watch or listen to.

President Kerry sounds great!!!

GravatarAh, you do bioinformatics?

I mostly do cell and molecular biology work. I've taken one class on computer programming for biology majors (it was fortran based) and I've taught myself PERL. I've been writing PERL programs to look at amino acid patterns in protein primary sequences. Like I said the last program I wrote was glitchy, and I sort of droped it for now.

Humm, but I got a couple of cell transfections going today (looking at CRE transactivation in BHK cells).

There's my geek post of the day.

I won't feel sorry for that lot if they all burst into flames. National Election Pool -- representing six major news organization -- shows Kerry in striking distance -- with small 1% lead -- in Florida and Ohio, sources tell DRUDGE... A fully burkha'd woman (I guess it was a woman) getting gas at costco the other day got the attention of my 6 yr old and he asked me about her.

I told him she was choosing to be a slave in a free country and she'd probably get beaten when she got home for driving a car, spending money and being out without her husband.

I said to him "not all muslims want to destroy us, but those are the ones who that hate us, right there".

He said "that's just creepy, mom."

How sad for that child.

How does this help the Republican challengers? It's not like they're going to get in there with a big bag of mail. Aside from which, you should have proper forms of ID with you when you go to the polls just in case... I brought my driver's license AND a current utility bill just to be safe.

Hey America's Memory/Pinkie Green, remember when you kept obsessionally posting about the IEM, and I kept asking you what the prediction dated for November 2nd 2004 was? Well, here it is finally. The only one which actually mattered.

NOW SUCK ON IT.

Even better; if you told the truth about having $500 on Bush, you just lost it.

Schadenfreude-rade; Now in Pinkie Green flavour! It tastes fantastic!. And you too can savour this delicious beverage by going and voting right now! Go pull one (a voting lever) for Pinkie!

GravatarInt argc: this has been the issue in Ohio the whole time. The republicans sent out a bunch of mailers to democrats and are using the unopened or "return to sender" mail as ways to challenge dems that have been living in their precincts for 30 years. Trust me, it's a problem.

GravatarI voted at 2 o'clock in a small rural precinct figuring it would be quieter then since a lot of people work. It was packed. People had actually left work, it looked like, to vote.

I think I've read that there are about 2500 registered voters in the precinct. I was #877 today, which doesn't include absentee ballots.

Awesome. Just awesome. I knew my faith in my fellow man would be justified.

Yes, georgie, you can fool some of us, but not most of us.

GravatarHoly god... there's a programming genius inside of you trying to get out.

Well, at the level I'm working with it, it's fun. Like solving a puzzle. I learned how to structure programs back in '93 when I was learning Fortran. Now, there are a lot of books on programming PERL, so it's just a matter of learning the language and applying it to the problem. If it's any consolation, I tried to pick up JAVA but couldn't get my head around the whole OOP thing.

GravatarI am so afraid.. is this really happening or is it a dream?

Gravatar"The real work is only beginning."

Amen.

A Kerry victory is the first small appearance of light at the end of the tunnel. But it's still a long journey to actually getting to the end of that tunnel, walking in the sunshine, and breathing the outside air freely.

And don't think these neocon fucks are going to take a defeat gracefully. They won't. They're gonna fight tooth and nail every initative or proposal Kerry puts forth that conflicts with their corpo-religio-fascist agendas.

GravatarInt argc: this has been the issue in Ohio the whole time. The republicans sent out a bunch of mailers to democrats and are using the unopened or "return to sender" mail as ways to challenge dems that have been living in their precincts for 30 years. Trust me, it's a problem.

No, I know what the tactic is. It's just that the GOTV people have (I hope!) been cautioning people to have forms of ID. So, OK, go ahead and challenge, but here's my relevant documentation, and now you can STFU Mr. Challenger. Or, at least, that's how it should work.

GravatarI am so afraid.. is this really happening or is it a dream?

Gravatarsorry 'bout the double down

GravatarTradesports has Bush at ALL TIME LOW, and Kerry is at ALL TIME HIGH.

I'm gonna double my money.

GravatarWho should really do jailtime is Poppy Bush for foisting his idiotic offspring on us. Anybody who puts family above country should be stripped of their citizenship and deported after some hard jailtime.

GravatarHalliburton - damn! I didn't know a stock could drop that much in one day!

GravatarBliekker,

OOP is really the model that translates smoothly across languages.

Give it another shot.

GravatarOkay, I'm anonymous from 4:14...too many of us all of a sudden. Time to stop being lazy

GravatarI am so afraid.. is this really happening or is it a dream?

GravatarIf it's any consolation, I tried to pick up JAVA but couldn't get my head around the whole OOP thing.

Can be confusing. "But why would I *want* to hide my data and use setter/getter functions?" If you keep trying, it'll come.

Oh, and surfdork... sounds like fun, that's the kind of geek stuff my GF gets into at work most of the time as well. I did have the unpleasant task of writing a web service to use LDAP to figure things out about the Exchange org, store groups, etc. If you can keep track of all those CN's, more power to you

GravatarWas it not "their" stock market when it had the greatest run-up in its history during the DEMOCRATIC administration of William Jefferson Clinton? If so, I think Repugs should disgorge all profits realized during that period. They can donate them all to the Edwards/Obama in 2012 fund!

Kerry in a LANDSLIDE!

I once did some c programming by copying the format of some c code I was attempting to modify. I would just try different numbers of *'s and things on the variables until the complier stopped coffing blood.

I hope so too... didn't mean to dismiss your comment btw, just in the interest of discussion you know

I'd give my left nut to be at Kennebunkport because it's gonna be pretty rough on Jeb if Kerry carries FL. :P

I hope Dr. Dan can pull off an election win over pasty-faced Bunting.

GravatarMy prediction for the night: Bush has a total fucking meltdown on national television when they call Florida for Kerry.

Agreed. But which one: Jeb or George? Cause Bush Family Reunion 2005 ain't gonna be too fun what with the "you cost me Florida, biatch!" recriminations.

It's such a shame... there's excellent open-source, verified voting software available, but of course there's no company behind it to make campaign contributions.

GravatarAnyone catch the Newtster on Hannity? Sean was practically begging him to make a call for Bush, and Newt was trying to get away from that thing like it was a corpse with the plague. He even said something like "There was a point in September when I think we could have really pulled away with it, when we had momentum," or words to that effect. I think Sean cut him off because it was a too-obvious post-mortem on BC04.

GravatarJSG,

that is from The Jerk. Excellent reference.

Gravataranyone know the significance of the Guam votes?

None.

how do they figure into the elecoral college

Every state has 2 EVs, plus the number of members of the House of Representatives it has.

The District of Columbia has 3 EVs.

Every other piece of territory on the planet (including, for instance, Guam), combined, has 0 EVs.

KERRY EDWARDS LANDSLIDE!!

GravatarHuge turn out in OKLAHOMA! Obviously not a swing state but I vote in a district that is 90% African American and it was a 1.5 hour wait. Quote from the guy behind. "Ain't a God Damn thing gonna keep me from voting!" I started humming GOD BLESS AMERICA while waiting in line.

C#?

E 5.5 or E2k?

Gotta love how MS uses port 389 (default) for the E 5.5 directory then releases E2k which uses 389 for LDAP unaware of the conflict this creates in mixed orgs.

In the readme?

Fuck no!

Oh well, as I bitch about this crap at least it keeps me employed.

GravatarWhat's always struck me about the fundie-winger types is how little faith they have in their god.

They always think they understand what God should do better than God. This election, for instance. If they truly believe that God directs the affairs of mankind, in particular America, then isn't ANY winner ordained by God? If God has willed that Kerry become our "leader," then who are these fuckers to deny that?

It's their stand on the theory of evolution through natural selection, as well. Actually, it's their stand on anything they don't want to accept. First they claim that God is Unknowable, Beyond Mortal Ken, etc., etc., then they promptly presume to explain to you exactly how God did everything since the Beginning of Time (and it's a very, very, simple-minded god playing in the sandbox kind of explanation at that).

Face it Fundies--God wants W outta there. Accept it or go to hell. Your choice, right?

GravatarLet's not get ahead of ourselves. A long way to go. I'm a MN Vikings fan--I know better thant to get too excited.

And if: "First we're going to Mercury! Then We're going to Venus! Then We're going to Mars BITCHES!/Then, George, We're going to URANUS! YEARRRRGHHHHHH" doesn't capture the zeitgeist perfectly, I dunno what does.

Gravatar(Dr. Evil) Frickin' Haloscan (/Dr. Evil).

GravatarHeads are exploding at the Corner over those early exit poll numbers. They remind me of Kevin Bacon's character at the end of "Animal House" -- "Remain calm! All is well!"

GravatarGet Out The Vote.

When the Sox were up 3 games to 0 on St. Louis, they didn't let up, because they (of anyone!) knew that 3-0 did not assure victory.

Get Out The Vote!

GravatarCole,

To paraphrase the great A. Powell Davies: God is presumably intelligent enough to know what He should be doing and wise enough to already be doing it. If not, He is not much of a God, and all prayer is irrelevant. Clearly, the purpose of prayer is not to motivate God to get about His business but to motivate US to get about OURS.

GravatarI lived in Guam years ago...it really is paradise.

I believe it has zero electoral votes.

GravatarThe freepers are freaking. This just posted:

“No matter who wins the election today, I feel that it is important that we continue to pursue with vigor
the record and history of John Kerry. All of the unanswered questions about his Military Service and his relations with the Communist Party of Vietnam still need to be answered. This man needs to be discredited to the point that he never serves in public office again. If he gets elected he needs to be nuetered [sic] and if he loses we need to make sure that he does not try and run again. Where many believe that he wants the UN approval due to France and Germany, I tend to believe he is really leaning more toward the Communist Chinese. So we must keep hammering on him no matter what.”

GravatarOh man, I just went lightheaded for a second...

It'll be another 3 hours before stuff like this has any real weight but, wow.

GravatarSeriously, I'm probably agnostic...I really have no faith and have not tried the stuff (afraid of addiction), but it seems to me fundamenalists of all persuasions, particularly Christians, lack humility.

Spiritual humility, in my ignorant opinion, consists of accepting the will of God regardless of personal desire or consequences--recognizing and accepting that as a mortal human you are flawed and ignorant of Reality as God knows it.

Fundies are the least humble people I know, yet are constantly finding that fault in everyone around them.

GravatarDave J.: That fat fuck Newt called the election 58% for Bush, 42% Kerry a few weeks back. Hopefully by tomorrow he'll be eating his words along with whatever else he shoves down that bottomless gullet of his.

GravatarJSG,

The Jerk! I was born a poor black child.

Kerry this morning (same polling place for 27 years), he saw lines as never before. He also commented that the number of African-American voters was extraordinarily high, most clutching their driver's licenses. Cross your fingers for Va.

Gravatar"I'd give my left nut to be at Kennebunkport because it's gonna be pretty rough on Jeb if Kerry carries FL."

GravatarBush commercials are still running on MSNBC at 3pm EST. What's the deal with that?

Selling, scheduling, airing, and billing for commercials is a very complicated business, often controlled these days by sophisticated (and expensive) computer systems. For any of a number of reasons, the network (or, more likely, the cable company) may be behind on their commitment to run Bush spots and are frantically making them up so as not to have to pay their customer a refund.

GravatarYoung George is about to lose his first election.

He lost his first Congressional race, and he lost a Presidential race in 2000.

Or another way to look at it is he only ever won one election, really - against Ann Richards for governor.

GravatarBush is fucked. Ohio alone should be sufficient. Ohio and Florida is a total rout.

This is gonna be funny. The media love to pretend that elections are subtle psychodrams that require their professional acumen to interpret.

But the simple fact is that this year a solid majority of Americans decided Bush sucks, his policies suck, his administration sucks, his campaign sucks, everything about the little weasel sucks, and John Kerry will make a much better president. End of story.

I ain't uncorking the champagne yet, but it's chillin'!

GravatarA friend passed this on to me via email:

Turnout is so high in Ohio's urban areas that Bush's campaign is flying him into the state so he can be on the news during the last few hours of voting in a last-ditch effort to increase voter turnout among GOP partisans!

Holy shit...is that true? He's truly, truly screwed.

GravatarFirst-time voter daughter called a couple of hours ago, triumphant over her first vote - for Kerry, of course. She kept me on the phone for 20 minutes ranting against the damn anti gay marriage amendment on the ballot (she's straight, but raised as a good liberal Episcopalian). Ah. It does a mother's heart good!

Kerry in a landslide - just not in Georgia :-( (but maybe closer than expected, please God.)

Gravatarclick you heels:

Yeah, you would hope that Kerry could reach across this divide and actually accomplish good things if elected, he is a 100% percent improvement over Bush, But the fundiees like being out of power too and throwing their feces on the wall and calling it a scandal.

Hopefully, and I think Kerry is pretty much scandal free, other than the bullshit they have tried this election. President Kerry still has lots of friends in the Senate and once he captures or kills Bin Laden, he will get more.

Gravatarkrzaz--about the freepers. I don't know much about the "internets," but isn't it possible that greater transparency, keeping an eye on these guys, even inserting a comment here and there--couldn't that possibly have a certain helpful effect over time? Things aren't as covert as they were during the Clinton years.

Anyway, Kerry'd better win.

GravatarAnyone noticed that Bin Laden look sa bit like Jafar in Disney's Alladin....

surely a coincidence right?

GravatarAn unimpeachable source relays word to me from a sitting member of the House (a Dem, natch) that most of this Rep's GOP colleagues are expecting a Kerry victory. This Rep has spoken to several GOP colleagues in the last hour and they have all but conceded the Presidential election.

For what it's worth.

GravatarAnd Goddess of the Nigh--I agree, a different kind of transparency.

Now I have to try to get some work done.

GravatarCan they steal FL again; Ohio, too? How about the voting machines? Can Diebold fix them? Are we safe? The exit polls in 2000 were right: Gore did win the popular vote there.... I am really nervous.

Gravatarcole the younger--

i think the word you might be looking for is "blasphemous." i mean the evangelicals have been moving more towards jonathan edwards, calvinism and predestination in the last decade or so, but once born again, they see their card as pre-punched for all future immoral action--or worse, that everything they do, however wrong, in accord with god's will. it's creepy as hell. if you're interested, jeff sharlett has a pretty good article at harper's called, "jesus plus nothing." (sorry, as a religion geek, i know nothing of tinyurl).

Gravatari'm crying either way. Fantastic job bitches. .... Though traitors snear we'll keep the red flag flying here.

GravatarSome stuff playing in the UK. Seems like Bush is in trouble by the look on Paxman's face.

GravatarAn unimpeachable source relays word to me from a sitting member of the House (a Dem, natch) that most of this Rep's GOP colleagues are expecting a Kerry victory. This Rep has spoken to several GOP colleagues in the last hour and they have all but conceded the Presidential election

Uh...aren't all those members of congress running for re-election? When do they get a chance to exchange opinions with each other on election day?

Sorry if it's true and no offense to you, but this could easily be a plant to try to dissuade voters who haven't voted yet.

THIS IS NOT OVER UNTIL IT'S OVER. I have no doubt that this will be a Kerry landslide, but don't count your chickes before they hatch. STILL make sure everyone you know votes. There are still millions who have not voted and we have to boot this rat bastard as far out of the White House as we can!

GravatarEASTERN MISSOURI UPDATE:
Turnout is heavier than ever in St. Louis County. My wife voted at 6:15a and she was the 1,374th voter an hour later. I voted at 2:30p and just over 9,400 had voted by then. Took me two hours to get through the line, but everyone in line was excited about tonight's outcome in favor of Kerry. It's 4:30p now and the line is growing across the street where the precinct is.

GET READY TO PARTY BITCHES, BECAUSE BECAUSE THE RETHUGS ARE SUCKING WIND IN MISSOURI!

GravatarThe Chinese Communists?
Huh????????

Any word about New Jersey yet?
I can't believe the land of my
ancestors will let us down......

Gravatare's the kind of guy who thinks we ought to have mandatory prayer in public schools, and basically wishes it was 1950 again.)

Well, in some ways that would be good.

We'd have Harry Truman as President!

Top tax rate would be 90%, and the share of taxes paid by corporations as opposed to individuals would lean more towards corporations.

Bosses would not dare to replace striking workers.

Down side?

Jim Crow would be alive and well. :0(

Korea and that little Cold War thingy.

More discrimination against women.

But I don't think 1950 would quite be the wingnut paradise he assumes. At least, not in every respect.

GravatarThat many new people are not showing up to say, `Good job, Mr. President.'''

that IS the quote of the day, youppi!

Gravatarimp (ironic?)--not being a religious geek, I know nothing of blasphemy, but I'll take you at your word.

My mother fell under the sway of the fundies a few years ago, and she goes on about what a great Christian man W is, and so MORAL, compared to thatscumbagclinton (all one word). Finally, not long ago, I interrupted her glassy-eyed homage to her hero and asked her point blank, "what makes you think George Bush is a Christian?"

"Oh come ON," she used the condescending Momma Voice on me, "you must be JOKING."

But, she never could tell me why she thought he was Christian other than he just "is."

Takes one to know one, I guess.

Gravatarfor the sake of the Godly and the Patriots who went before us, save us, Lord of Life, our Blessed Redeemer!

Boy, New England is really taking that one loss hard.

How about, confound their politics, scatter their knavish tricks?

Or do I have that backwards?

Gravatarmore bush selling on tradesports -- it has broken 30 now, now 29 offers coming in....thats over 2-1 odds for kerry...

GravatarCole the Younger: You probably are an agnostic. Do some reading up on Epicurus -- it's a Greek philosophy that ignores the gods, begins with pleasure, and ends with humility.

(Ooh. Does this make an evangelical agnostic? "Another youth for ... uh ... it's probably nothin'.")

Gravatarthanks HP.

And take care all--remember that ridding ourselves of W and gang is only the first step in revitalizing the American Promise. We must become active participants in our nation's welfare once again. Professional politicians, while convenient, are not to be left unsupervised for long.

Off to class.

Gravatarna na na na na na na na hey hey bye bye

GravatarWell, from a hard-line conservative...congratulations. Looks like the people have spoken. I don't have to LIKE it, but the people have spoken.

Good luck to the Kerry Administration.
See you all again in 2008.

"Owens/Allen in 2008!!!"

GravatarAfter voting, I was out around town, and it seems that overnight the local Dems carpeted the (mostly Repub) area with Kerry/Edwards signs. It was a sight of pure beauty. I passed by my polling place on the way home and there is still about a one-hour wait to vote. Local turnout is expected to be upwards of 85%.

GravatarWell, from a hard-line conservative...congratulations.

Thanks, but we're not finished yet.

I do have a strong feeling, and a hope, that this election actually will be over tonight. However, until it's official, I'll watch and wait... the celebration will even better when the victory is assured, instead of merely predicted.

GravatarMick, man, you just about made me cry.

that image--of the African American community in VA having to "clutch" their ID's in hand, afraid their votes would again be stolen from them, in a state where they couldn't have even been expecting the Dems might win--THIS. MUST. NEVER. EVER. HAPPEN. AGAIN.

how DARE anyone try to stop these people from voting! here in Pgh PA, polls in predominately African-American neighborhoods had MORE voters by 10AM today than they had ALL DAY in 2000...and yeah they had to wait, and yeah people were getting "challenged" and yeah they RAN OUT of the provisional ballots--but you know what? i think we beat the spread here!

(my poor students, on the other hand, are mostly still all standing in lines outside in the rain on campus--i guess they must be challenging every single damn one of them or something? but again--my kids here know their rights, too, and they are ALSO "clutching" their ID's--so take that, Karl Rove you Evil Bastard! expect a bump for Kerry coming from my student voters here in PGH, as the evening goes along and they FINALLY get to cast their votes!)

-Librarian, who, by the way, was also followed into the polls this afternoon after she politely returned a pro-Bush pamphlet to the woman who foisted it on her ON THE DOORSTEP to her polling place in her swanky, white, semi-suburban neighborhood...when this lady proceeded to remind the workers there to ask for my ID, i offered her not only my license, but also my PASSPORT, my official Voter reg card, my faculty photo ID, AND MY RECEIPTS FROM VOTING AT THAT SAME POLL in the Primary and in the 2002 Mid-terms--yeah, mess with MY vote: you can take my vote away from me when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers, Karl.

"I just talked to my father, a 76-year-old retired enlisted Marine, lifelong Republican, living in Northern Virginia. When he went to vote for Sen. Kerry this morning (same polling place for 27 years), he saw lines as never before. He also commented that the number of African-American voters was extraordinarily high, most clutching their driver's licenses. Cross your fingers for Va."
Mick

Gravatarhp--(Ooh. Does this make an evangelical agnostic? "Another youth for ... uh ... it's probably nothin'.")

that makes me laugh and laugh... thanks!

cole the younger-- i have a really hard time seeing bush as a moral man. but then i'm not saved, so there you go. must be some sort of glassy-eye xian vision that lets you perceive what no one else can see. for a while i was reading all this material by evangelicals about how dubya is the antichrist. i'm still kinda willing to believe that...

as for imp, i just think imps are awful cute
