I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

GravatarC'mon. It's just bafflegab, something to fill up the air time resulting from the question. Dubya's treasury team hasn't got a clue about what it's going to do. All they're interested in is delaying the day of reckoning until the day after the 2008 election. If it happens before then, it will make the rise in inflation and concomitant interest rates which affected the Carter administration look puny.

Also, please note that, unlike prior decades, those cuts in foreign imports will not be primarily decreases in the purchases of luxury goods like French wines or Italian leather. They will come in the T-shirts and shoes kids need to go to school. They will come in the fuel oil to heat homes in winter. They will come in the cost of all of those fancy consumer electronics. And, with higher interest rates, they will come in the collapse of the real estate markets and higher bankruptcies.

It's a real bright future, so bright Dubya's gotta wear shades.

GravatarThat's so patently absurd. Economics is Greek to me, and even I know Bush can't pull off two of those points listed simultaneously. It's not possible.

GravatarDon't pay attention to those cabinet people, much less undersecretaries.

Wapo today:

"The Bush brand is a few priorities, run out of the White House, with no interference from the Cabinet," the official said. "The Cabinet does not need a new face because it has no face. The function of the Bush Cabinet is to provide a chorus of support for White House policies and technical expertise for implementing them. It's like the Nixon Cabinet, without the scandal.

President to Consider Changes for New Term

GravatarThe solutions offered by the rich and powerful to the problem of the declining dollar sound quite similar to the "remedies" proposed by the IMF to third world countries suffering from the inability to pay back their loans. Are we becoming Argentina? Hell yes! Welcome to the new America and the 21st-century economy, brought to you by those wonderful people who gave us Fallujah.

GravatarSince Blogger is Completely Bloggered to me today...I'll just post what I was going to blog and then whore here anyway.

The Second Term for President's is the LEGACY TERM.

And Bush will complete the legacy that will have him remembered in history...

THE PRESIDENT THAT FUCKED US INTERNATIONALLY AND DOMESTICALLY!

Huzzah!

Take that James Buchanan! Up Yours Franklin Pierce, now we'll show you that a Dry Drunk is even worse than an active one!

GravatarTake that James Buchanan! Up Yours Franklin Pierce, now we'll show you that a Dry Drunk is even worse than an active one!

That would be hilarious if it wasn't so true...

Just curious, has anyone received an uptick in their personal e-mail from Bush supporters? I've received three rather crass "gloats" and I'm thinking it has to be from the trolls who post here. Therefore, I won't be posting my e-mail address for a while.

Gravatarwhat the hell, i don't understand economics. i do understand the notion of the rich hoarding the resources.

my comment: you go nothing you got nothing to lose, and paybacks are a bitch.

may you all slide into the realm of poverty as a million others did this last year. then the revolution will start. jesus be damned.

of course it may be too late by then.

Gravatarwatch next Thursday's treasury auction, I would not be surprised if we had a financial crisis before the inauguration

GravatarI've got capital, don't you see.
No DemoRAT better fuck with me.
I get to call the plays.
Do not hand me delays.
My insanity now can run free.

GravatarYou don't need to be Paul Krugman to understand the economic concept of tax simplification.

If you want a revenue neutral tax code, you are simply shifting the tax burden from one group to another. Does anyone expect the rich to be paying more tax under this administration?

In any event, Bush may have a majority but he doesn't have a rubber stamp legislature, at least not yet. There are still senators on both sides of the aisle that won't drink the kool-aid. They're not that delusional to start shifting the income tax system from a progressive to a regressive system, and the inherent risks to the country in doing so.

GravatarWeak dollar is not good for us, not just people for european vacations. Deficits are being financed by outside money and if they feel that dollar is unstable, they would pull out, that would raise the interest rates and inflation ....
welcome to Argentina R Us

GravatarComing soon: 2005 -- like 1968 but
with an economic catastrophe.

GravatarY'know, if George Soros felt like it... the dollar looks ripe for plucking. I'd say 1.30 to the Euro is a near-term possibility.

Anyway, I suspect that many people on the coasts, with easy access to either offshore or international banking facilities -- say, Citibank in NY, HSBC on the left coast -- are now looking into Euro or sterling accounts.

I'm not an economist, but would I be right in thinking that the treasury auction is related somehow to the raising of the debt ceiling? That's to say, in order to allow the GOPgress to plunge the nation further into the red, that debt has to be sold off in the form of T-bills?

GravatarSo, how do we prevent our dollar savings from falling in value?

GravatarAlso in today's WaPo, a portrait of one of the evangelical families that voted for Alchy McValues. The most chilling part of the article. They don't care that the economy sucks and they don't blame Bush. They know that God will take care of 'em. They only know that Bush is a moral man, and the country needs absolute moral values. So when the next Depression rolls in, don't expect this crew of nutcases to switch sides.

GravatarThe dollar decline isn't necessarily "good" or "bad" in and of itself

Well, I sell a product that's priced in US dollars (mainly because most of the customers are American).

A declining American dollar hurts me because I get paid in American dollars but I don't live in America. The American dollar has been in steady decline for the last three years, and looks almost certain to plunge even further.

So I'll be moving my business (which is internets-based) elsewhere. 15% of my takings go to an American company, and will no longer. That's not good for the US, but that's completely fine with me.

GravatarWhat world leader do you think of who:
1) wants to export his ideology around the world with regional wars?
2) speaks in terms of 5 year plans?
3) runs a secretive government?

A few years ago I would have said, "eh Stalin?" But that was before James Bukkake! Up Yours Franklin Pucker (thank you Attaturk).

Gravataranon-What irony if Soros could make millions off Bush's pushing the dollar down.

Gravatartopic seen on fox:
will bush raise taxes?
with some pundit defensively stating how saint ronnie raised taxes 3 times.

whaa?

was this some kind of trail ballon? to soften the impact in advance?
i couldn't remember if bush had pledged not to raise taxes...for this term.

is there some kind of stealth tax bush could slip in the upcoming tax restructuring? it'll probably be on the backs of the poor.

GravatarI'm going to go bullish on We Told You So (ticker symbol WTYS) for the next four years.

GravatarIs Keynesian a euphamism for "fucked"? 'Cause that's what we are...

GravatarActually it's just an accounting identity. If you take intro macroeconomics, you'll learn by definition

consumption + investment + government expenditures + exports - imports = GDP

or rewriting we get
trade deficit = consumption + investment + government expenditure - GDP

If government expenditures go down relative to GDP, the trade deficit must necessarily decrease.

Gravataris there some kind of stealth tax bush could slip in the upcoming tax restructuring? it'll probably be on the backs of the poor.

AMT 'reform' is an obvious place to look. But I'm just waiting for the Jebus-friendly spin on the national sales tax, whereby everyone pays their 'fair share', and only the lazy, greedy liberals suffer on under $10k/year because they, y'know, 'buy' things.

GravatarLucky me, I hit the quadfecta. -GWB Don't economic tailspins favor dictators?

GravatarFor the survival of the Democratic Party Howard Dean needs to be the next DNC Chair. Dean would transform the Party from DoNotChallenge to DoNotConcede. Dean is proud to be a democrat and knows that trying to be Republican-lite is a losing strategy.

Dean knows what he believes in and passionately fights for it. Dean 'gets' grassroots activism and the internet; Dean knows how to raise money; Dean, as an early student of George Lakoff, and he knows moral-politic speak and is learning more everyday; Dean is aware of the electronic voting machine issues.

Dean's Democracy for America has been a great template for taking the same principles to the national party level: have a 30 year plan for building the "farm team" of candidates; don't give up on any region, but rather cultivate a democratic base from the grassroots to challenge every seat, from school board to Senate.

I'm afraid more of the same 'ol, same 'ol from the DNC is just a recipe for permanent minority status.

GravatarI was thinking about the difference between Dems and Repubs yesterday and why the Dems were thrashed yesterday. My thoughts:

1)dmes think short term, while repubs have long term strategies. Dems are going to block judges as their main tactic, but have no overarching strategy. Rove wanted to turn out the red state christians as a strategy; all his tactics(gay marriages, abortion, prayer in school) fed into the grand strategy. Dems need to have a long turm viable strategy and stick with it.
2) Dems will never outrepublican republicans. Daschle was a witness to this. Don't assume that just because you vote Bush legislation that you will be safe from republicans. On the flipside, Dems need to take lessons from republicans and target moderate repubs, instead of voting for them
3) Republicansn never say anything nice, nor vote for Dems. Many voted for Arlen, but now realize he will be Bush's tool.

GravatarTo Do List for the next few months:

1. Out all prominent gay Republicans,
starting with Ralph Reed and David
Dreier. Preferrably in their face on
TV chat shows.

2. Find a new set of Democratic spin
meisters who have no qualms about
calling Republicans liars on TV. Lockhart and Joe Trippi
can stay; everybody else, including
Shrum and Brazile, should be shown
the door.

3. Make it mandatory to call Evangelicals
what they really are -- Fundamentalists.

4. Publically shame any Democrat who collaborates
in any way. Fuck bi-partisanship. New
Party slogan -- no
more Vichy Democrats.

5. Elect a minority leader who will lead
fillibusters against every -- repeat
every -- Republican initiative.

GravatarThis is my rejoinder chortle to my Bushbot colleagues:Screw you- he won, but I put a nice chunk of money into foregin bonds before the election (as a hedge in case that son of a bitch won), and I'm sitting pretty thanks to your stupidity.

Admittedly, I'd rather not be making money this way- and me, middle class schlub can do this, so imagine what people with real money can do.

GravatarGiven that Bush really is incompetent and really does govern by ideology as opposed to logic or pragmatism, there's a very good chance that market reality will smack him (and us) in the face. Maybe his incompetence will keep him from doing too much damage.

On the other hand, where market reality isn't involved is in government, and with the help of his Congress Bush will try to change government check and balance structures and mechanisms. Look at what Delay did in Texas. Who's going to say "No"?

GravatarSteve, I like your to do list.

GravatarIve been reminding myself for almost 4 years now that reasonable and prudent people can and do disagree. I keep waiting for some reasonable and prudent arguements.

Gravatarjeffs sez:

Look at what Delay did in Texas.

GravatarOff-topic, but can anyone verify this:

Gravatar4) Dems always seem to win the battle, but lose the war. Gay rights is a good example. I remember seeing gays being married in SF and thinking that picture is worth a few million christian votes. If the repubs were going to push an equally devisive measure, word would have gone to the judges in Mass. and the mayor of SF to lay off until after the election. This is not to say that you should change your principles, but timining is everything.
5)Democrats still don't get that the public is irrational, repubs do and mold their message accordingly-appealing to Americans heart not their head. If the poll that showed that 42% of people belive that Saddam was behind 911 does not convince dems of this principle, what will?
6) Always accuse the media of conservative bias-even when none exist. I have heard liberals say that this coverage was fair, while that coverage was not. Repubs never do that; to them everything but FOX is the liberal media and that the meidia is never fair. Cheney would not let the NYT, on his plane; the dems would never have the balls to do something like that.

GravatarGeorge Soros made huge money speculatively attacking the British pound until it collapsed and forced the Brits to leave the EMS. Ironically, after losing a few million in supporting Kerry, he stands to make billions as Bush either tries to talk up the dollar or let's it go into free-fall.

1. Yep. Previously I didn't like this, including giving Mary C a hard time. But now it's scorched earth time.

2. Yep.

3. I'd go further: they're religiobigots. Their "moral values" are Abu Ghraib, lying to start a war, double standards between (R) and (D) politicians, etc.

4. Yep, and blow out of the water any pretense that the (R) side is trying to "reach out".

5. No, I say give Duhmerica everything it voted for, except for pre-emptive war and environmental destruction. Everything else; why the fu*k not.

www.pittnews.com

GravatarWhat can we expect from someone who trumpets they are going to spend their (political) capital? I was taught to invest capital...
Meanwhile, as suggested upthread, at some point in the downward path of the US$ things will become a bit too much for any number of foreign investors (think more British than Chinese) and life will get very interesting very quickly. Markets don't like conflicting messages: they prefer clarity. And they don't believe in Jesus.

GravatarNon Tibo Spiro,
I can't verify it, but around a day ago (at least) I was given a link that said "Netscape calls Bush an asshole", pointing to Netscape's own site. I'm not sure how exactly I would see the word 'asshole' without inspecting the properties of the image though (perhaps the link was directly to the image; I don't remember).

GravatarNot even Supply side Jesus?

GravatarCome on, it'll be just like the first term - a recession so by 2008 there's a recovery for the Republican to run on, and a new war (or just more Iraq) so we have to support the wartime president (ten bucks says we hear talk about repealing #22 to keep Bush in power) or at least his party.

It worked so well the first time, didn't it? For Bush and the Republicans, I mean - not for the rest of us...

Gravatar7) When talking to Americans, dont talk about marginal tax rates, talk about cutting taxes. Amereicans dont to complex, they like 3 syllables and short sentences. Kerry never connected.

Don't be Dukakis. When the swifties came out in August, instead of destoying them and laying it at Bush's feet immediately, they let it drive up the negatives. The flip-flopper non response was a mystery to me. Here was all these blogs pointing out Bush's flip-flops, but Kerry never used it.

9) Conventions are meant for trashing the opponent, developing memes, and firing up the base- not to be a tea club. Repubs did a good job of spooking dems by saying that it was going to be a hate fest. But look at the repub convention

10) ignonre the dems and the polls. Obviously the polls were shitty. Also keep your cards close to the chest. When someone ask you for an exit poll, either say no or that you voted republican. The early voting polls really brought out the christian vote. In florida the early exit polls were all going for kerry, and the sunday before the election, ministers were saying gay marriages and abortion are winning-driving up the outcome.

GravatarAre "moral values" the new "states' rights"?

Gravatarpayroll: +337k
household: unemployment up 0.1%

big revisions on the last two months.

So, which survey are they going to cite this time, the fuckers?

GravatarI agree with David -- the repugs have waited for DECADES to be able to claim they have the mandate to eliminate SS, Medicare, Public Schools, Medicade, GI Bill, and other "social" programs. Now there is nothing to stop them and they can call it the "will of the people." I am disappointed that there is not a reasonable alternative -- the Dems have been a shaky coalition for decades. I do not see how we can unite in the short-term. In the longer term, I don't know how the "me-against-them" them attitude that was so prevelant before the election can be transfered into a "we" strategy. I guess an open, honest dialog that leaves room for people to respectfully disagree would be a start. I haven't seen that from many democratic advocates yet. Will we ever wake up and realize that "who is right or wrong" is less important than building coalitions across areas that we should be able to find agreement on?

Gravatar6) Always accuse the media of conservative bias-even when none exist. I have
heard liberals say that this coverage was fair, while that coverage was not.
Repubs never do that; to them everything but FOX is the liberal media and that
the meidia is never fair. Cheney would not let the NYT, on his plane; the dems
would never have the balls to do something like that.

This should have been on my To Do list.
Democrats are never gonna get a break
from the media, we so should go after
them aggressively.
Fuck the cable networks, fuck the NY
Times and Washington Post. They are
the problem.

GravatarSeriously, though, Ralph Reed is gay? I didn't know it'd be this easy. But then, I thought it'd be easy against Tom Coburn and the shotgun senator. Those ripe chestnuts didn't quite fall into our lap.

GravatarI can't wait to see the look on all the Bush lovers' faces when their hero takes away their mortgage deduction.

GravatarOh, and the market will be happy if/when Arafat dies. Wonderful. CNBC cunts.

GravatarA computer error involving one voting-machine cartridge gave President Bush 3,893 extra votes in a Gahanna precinct.

GravatarNot even Supply side Jesus?
shirty

Nope - you may be thinking of supply side Mammon...That Cult is strong in the Wall Street Catacombs.

GravatarNon Tibo Spiro: confirmed. I saw it before it got taken down. There was one entitled morons.jpg as well.

Gravatarsteve simels,
Where do you start??
I added some stuff in pt.3. Also, the two main reasons Bush voters gave for voting the way they did were "moral 'values'" and "terrorism". So hammer the terrorism angle: Where's Bin Laden? (inculding the "not concerned" vote) Al-Zarqawi? Aug 6 memo? Homeland protection, like first-responder funding. Etc.

GravatarExpecting good government from people that have already made up their mind that government can't work is insanity. To the smirking chimp and his allies -- government is just a public trough to enrich yourself at if you have enough political power. This is not free-enterprise, it is crony socialism. The repugs are doing the best they can to corrupt government so that they can say, "see, we told you so!" In the meantime, they belly up to the trough. Our challenge it so find a way to have a meaningful dialog that brings people IN and does not chase them OUT.

GravatarGeorge Soros made huge money speculatively attacking the British pound until it collapsed and forced the Brits to leave the EMS.

And did so months after John Major won a tight election. Some Brits are comparing this to 1992 -- that's to say, a term that will overstretch the Rethugs -- but it was the EMS crisis that really sunk 'em. Mortgage rates around 10%, people? Welcome to Negative Equity Land.

GravatarWhat are these "values" of which they speak?
The true meaning is lost in mystique.
Are they on the same page?
Do they nurse the same rage?
What's the remedy that they seek?

Gravatar11)Play jujistsu with Repubs. Their strenghts should be their weakness. Why the dems did not blamwe 911 on Bush is beyond me. The media will complain no matter what. The abortion, chistianity and gay issue is what put bush over the top. Dems in should be taungting the repubs on the floor of Congress to make abortion/homosexuality illegal, knowing it will never pass. They will score some red points and place repubs on the defensive by mking them having to explain why they are ignoring their main consituency. This is not trying to be a repubclican, but makeing the repubs put thier money where their mouth is. Up untill now they could get votes simply by TALKING about abortion/homos. Make them have to choose betweenn the moderates or the conservatives

Gravatarplease--i HOPE i am over reacting...but i don't think i am.

Alas, you're not.

GravatarSorry, I don't buy the "values" election thing.

Look at that map and all that see of red, do any of you REALLY think that most of the people who live there never get divorced or cheat on their spouses or fudge their income tax or drink too much or smuggle cigarettes from Canada? C'mon even Bill Bennett gambles.

No, this is go old fashioned American bigotry and hypocrisy. I thought one of my bloggers put it very well, these people can't control their unruly kids or their jobs going overseas but by god they will keep those gays from getting married!

It's the hypocrisy stupid! That should be our battle cry. We could make Britney Spears our poster girl for this.

We can easily expose this hypcrisy by advocating one addition to that marriage amendment..no divorce.

That should get their attention.

in terms of % of popular vote, W gets # 4 (so far, with many counts not in, and looks like a lot more in dispute, not to mention people who never got the chance despite trying ALL DAY to vote.)

and John Kerry gets 47.99% (again, so far--but will the rest ever be counted?)

mandate? bullshit.

GravatarI agree with many of you. Where to start?

What would be the downside to Howard Dean running our party? It seems like something good should come out of this debacle and Dean shaking up our party would be a start. I'm filled with so much anger at the poor slobs who voted against their self-interest and a part of me agrees that it'd be just when they get even poorer and lose even more. However, something tells me that'd just strenghten their faith. They love to be tested.

We need to refine our message and show that loving your neighbor as yourself is a value everyone can understand and get behind. It's tedious, I know, pandering to that crowd. But how else do we win?

GravatarSPORK--it's on Saturday, sorry!

thought i said that!

it's Thomas Merton & POG, don't know who else, but who cares now?

the more we pull in the better!

if there was one thing i REALLY loved about Kerry's campaign strategy--he pulled in AFL-CIO, a lot of the Peace people, students, NAACP, women, Bruce Springsteen and blogland...great coaltion building.

we better keep that act together, and broaden it damn quick. we need to have established ground-based organizations who can reach people in person, on the phone, at work, etc.

i am not relying on "the internets" indefinitely...

if Ashcroft is rumored to be leaving his current post, wanna' bet he gets nominated to Supreme Court?! gee, maybe he can just have BOTH positions at the same time!

GravatarGeegirl has it right. These "values" people are the delusional(bigotry hidden in "religion") or the evil hypocrites(see and know and practice bigotry and play along - Bush, Falwell, Bible bablers on TV). Today they target gay and women folk. Yesterday they were into slavery, Jim Crow, subjugation of women, Jewish people, Catholics, others. "Leaders" would alwys find Bible passsages too support the bigotry. The delusional fell for the BS and were proud of it. Evil hypocrites laughed. Polititions encouraged and rode along and, of course, had an agenda of their own. Today that agenda includes killing SS. Long term, these assholes always lose. Thank God. Short term, the damage is outragious.

GravatarIt seems to me that the third point above is the only rational place to begin and we might need to start by building greater understanding and respect for intellectual ideas and freedoms. I believe your blog consistently tries to do this and most of your readers post thoughtful comments. I cannot say the same of many of the other well-meaning blogs I have regularly visited – especially the 300-thread insult featured on some sites where everyone claims the post above them is a troll even though most of the posts are in agreement on many basic issues. geegirl has a great suggestion, too: expose the hypocrisy at every turn and exaggerate just as the repugs have been doing.

Lymond(in NH-went for Kerry & threw out a corrupt repug gov!)

GravatarIf Bush 'reaches out' to me, he's gonna draw back a bloody stump.

Gravatargo SteveLG! Bloody Stump for Bush!

(new threads up BTW)

Gravatardirtgirl, I already sent out a couple of queries to Bank of New York and ING online, about Euro denominated accounts. I'll let everyone know what I find out.
and I like steve simel's list too.

GravatarI'm deliberately avoiding the cable
shows for a while, so I'm a bit out
of the loop. Here's a question I
asked yesterday:

Are the Democrats making concilliatory,
bi-partisan noises?
Or are there any auguries of developing
spines?

GravatarI'm out of the loop too, not watching cable news. No sign of Democrats doing or saying anything in the NY Times or WaPo.

Gravatarsteve simels, I caught a bit of Pelosi on CNN this morning. (I watch with the sound off to read the crawl and the remote at the ready in case a human comes on.) She said they will work with the Repugs only on issues they can agree on.

Do I believe that? I'll get back to ya.

GravatarEverybody here knows of the coming collapse of the US economy. So take steps now to avoid getting crushed in it. Simplify your life. Eliminate ALL unnecessary purchases. Downsize, downscale, save, save, save. Learn to survive in a depression. Sell NASCAR junk to the idjuts. If you can't bail out yet, start getting prepared. We will be a third world country and all of our jobs are going to China.

When the shrub supporters start their whining, we can tell them to just go fuck themselves.

GravatarI'm waiting with baited breath for that invisible hand to reach out and give Lame Duckie a good hard swat.

GravatarOkay - I know we buy alot of imports - but if you plan on reducing imports by reducing aggregate demand, won't you reduce GDP as well? And by even more? I mean, I'm sure I still spend more on domestic goods than I do on imported ones, so any decrease in my import purchases would be accompanied by a LARGER decrease in my domestic purchases, making the trade deficit continue to worsen!!!

Perhaps their plan is to severely lower our wages and prices by going thru a depression - then we can increase our exports and export fewer jobs! Great plan!

GravatarDeficits are being financed by outside money and if they feel that dollar is unstable, they would pull out, that would raise the interest rates and inflation ....
welcome to Argentina R Us

For more on how the world can destroy the US even though it is US who have the most powerful military, see this:

http://www.crisispapers.org/Edit...rable- giant.htm

Here is an excerpt:

"What the Bush team fails to appreciate is that the US, while militarily supreme, is otherwise extremely vulnerable. And should the US decide to take on the entire world, the rest of the world, in concert, can take down the US with ease. The “outside world” has two weapons – foreign debt and resource imports -- which, if employed either separately or in concert, will quickly bring catastrophe upon the United States without a shot being fired."

GravatarI betcha it's a tax hike on the menu peuple (middle-and-lower), too.

GravatarShrum was a blight on the Kerry campaign. Shrum is a blight on any campaign......................................" Springtime For George Bush".......starring Bob Shrum as Max Bialystock.

GravatarWouldn't less consumer spending be across the board? I mean when someone decides not to buy something does the fact that it's a domestic product or foriegn product enter into the equation?

Gravatarsheesh, just when i decided that given recent events i wasn't going to visit the u.s. for the next four years our dollar actually starts to become worth something. well, i am close to vermont, which i've always thought is kinda like a blend of what i like about both our countries...

GravatarI would add to Steve's list:

-- Take control of the local Democratic Party. Replace the appeasers and coopters. Then agressively pursue local offices, especially any office having any impact on how elections are conducted. Voting shenanigans such as improperly allocated voting machines, improperly purged voter rolls or lost, misplaced and late absenteee ballots are a lot harder to pull off when we have at least one person high up in the voting infrastructure.

-- Organize and implement an effective economic strike against at least one of the major broadcast or cable networks to get them to see the positive profit potential for supporting the "blues." If we can't do that, find a minor cable network, buy it and use it to build our own "Fox" network. I would readily drop my subscriptions to the NY Times, the Washington Post for such a boycott. Same with foregoing CNN and MSNBC (which I pretty much do already).

-- Identify and purchase a local or small regional paper from a blue area, though it might be preferable for it to not be in NYC area, and drive it national while building it into a strong blue support vehicle. The reds have shown no hesitation to acquire and use major dailies as party tools, why should we? The threat of a true blue daily could be enough to offset the pressure from the reds and let the NY Times return to more truly fair and unbiased coverage.

GravatarForgot to add, with regard to buying our own cable network and/or newpaper, I am ready to put my money where my mouth is by dipping into my retirement account to do it. What the hell good is a retirement in a religious theocracy going to be anyway?

GravatarThe Bushies don't care about the dollar or the economy. This has been perfectly timed to crash after the election. They look at the coming economic castastrophy as a chance to pick up good bargains in foreclosed realestate and to finaly starve big goverment (social programs) to death.

Then in four years they can blame Clinton or come up with another bogus social scare and the red state idiots will vote them in again.

The sad truth is that too many americans are either religous nut cases that think Jesus is about to return or redneck sheep that vote for whoever makes their penis feel larger.

I used to think that these people would wake up and see the reality of the republican party. Not anymore.

Were Fucked!

Gravatari'm in NYC and have some money sitting around waiting for me to get old. how the f-in' hell do i get it into euros? just call citibank and ask? or do i need a half mil before they'll talk to me? do any online banks offer euro-denominated accts for 'merikins?

Just call Citibank and ask. There are other banks that offer dual-denomination accounts (for fairly small initial deposits) too. You're in the right place to shop around, too.

ING's a good place to start. HSBC too.

It's time for Democrats to be selfish and look after themselves and one another, no matter how it hurts their consciences.

GravatarIt's very simple to see what's happened here.

Clinton - Economist
Bush - MBA

Personally I'm an economist so I'm prejudice. MBAs learn just enough about economics to become dangerous but not enough to become effective. They think the Economy is like a pickup truck. Gas, brakes, mirrors, check... Meanwhile they are really in a fighter jet with a thousand knobs/controls and hundreds of gages. The altimeter is flashing on the dash and these guys don't see it. I guess were supposed to have "faith".

Where's Robert Ruben when you need him? How many people even knew about the global financial crisis(s) that they were able to contain..? Mexico with $10 oil.. unable to feed the poor, cutting out beans in the gov rations..

The Asian fiscal crisis anyone...?

How long would the energy maniplutations in California be allowed to go on under Clinton?

GravatarWe're done. The same logic that won't wage the war properly won't balance the budget properly.

We've got: A budget deficit drain funded by foreigners, a trade-deficit bubble, a real estate bubble, and a credit bubble.

When it all comes crashing down soon, at least Duh-bya will be at the helm to take the credit where credit is due.

I certainly hope it all crashes, we've suffered enough inflation. If you think we've had 3% a year for the past 8 years, you're not paying attention. Clinton started this mess. The middle class will recover handsomely from the crash, the newly rich bushites will suffer the most harm. I PRAY for a crash.
