I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

GravatarFrist?

GravatarCat Friday's...

I get it!!!

Like Wednesday is hump day...

Good one!

Gravatarahhh.... cat blogging: the early years...

GravatarCant see it yet, there they are.

Damn Cute, Ahhhhhhh, Have they demanded union wages yet? Are the looking for scale?

Here is one of minePtolemy

GravatarCaught again in flagrente delicto!

Just trying to get a little lovin' in before the Hate Amendment passes.

GravatarAhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

GravatarStill overfeeding them, I see.

GravatarLet's see, white cats in a snowdrift? Black cats in a windowless room with the lights out? Gray cats on a gray turtleneck? (Cause I don't see any kitties . . .)

GravatarI take it back, there they are, as hugging and huggable as ever!

GravatarSo when are they moving to Canada to get married?

GravatarCool weather canoodling between two of mine:
here
and
here

GravatarMore furry, less fury.

GravatarI could just eat those two up.

GravatarYou've gotta love cats. They are as cool as they come, which is why jazz musicians identify with them...

GravatarDogs rule.

Gravatar"Frist?" Throw him into the lion's den with Ashcroft. Two lousy cat-fearing losers.

GravatarKitties!! Woo-hoo, it must be Friday.

Tow

GravatarAwwwww! Conservative or liberal, cats are so cute!

GravatarBlogwhoring:

Cute kitty-in-a-box picture.

GravatarAtrios,
Very artistic, the blurry effect evokes an old French postcard...I was kind of hoping for a double dose this week, after missing my fix last Friday. You might have been able to dispel your "fed up with the blog" mood by elevating the contents to just kitties that day.

GravatarVery sweet. I love Fridays.

Gravatarmy girlfriend has a cat who is brain damaged or something (seriously) and has two very strange habits.

1) when you are sleeping, he will attack your feet, and bite them.

2) when he starts to purr, he will lick your hand, and then start to bite it in a wierd suckling motion.

Gravatarmy new kitty licks my nose and then bites it (hard). shit, maybe she's brain damaged. she also tries to run up the wall, so it's entirely possible.

the other one hates me for bringing her home.

GravatarOohhh....best photo of kitties yet. They really like each other,eh? sweet.

GravatarYeah! Those are beautiful creatures!

GravatarGot gerbil?

GravatarLove the kitty-in-a-box picture. Love BGK's tuxies, especially Mr. Blacknose. I am a fool for tuxedo cats, a fact of which my own two tuxies are acutely aware.

And what is it about cats and boxes, anyway? I have resigned myself to never knowing the answer until we all get to heaven. As soon as I get there, I will ask my cats (wouldn't be heaven without cats, you see). Since they will have been given the power of speech by the Almighty, they will be able to answer me, but since even glorified, they will still be cats, they will gaze at me in a superior fashion and not say a word.

GravatarHang in there.

GravatarAntonio Banderas IS Puss N Boots in
Shrek 2!

Just mentioning......

GravatarLove BGK's tuxies, especially Mr. Blacknose.

His name is Rizzo. He's a Maine Coon mix and is about the sweetest-tempered cat I've ever met.

The little one is Ava. She's not really a tuxedo, but has a Holstein-cow-like pattern of spots. We call her a "moozer" because she's part Siamese ("meezer") and has cow-like coloring.

I have a third black-and-white cat named Jack, who is not only devastatingly handsome, but is incredibly outgoing.

Gravataratrios, did you change the lighting in the pic after originally posting it? when i first saw it it was too dark.. in fact, i thought it was porno, because the only thing i could see was the outline of the white paw, which looked like..... well, never mind.. it's much better now!

GravatarHappiness!

GravatarGreat pic, BGK. I have a soft spot for tuxies, too.

GravatarAnybody have a celebrity cat story?
Sex with Morris or Garfield....or
whatever?

Gravatar>>"Frist?" Throw him into the lion's den with Ashcroft. Two lousy cat-fearing losers.
- Sisi

Sorry to bring this up especially here, but let's note the moral distinction between "cat-killing" (Frist proudly admits in his book that as a young mad scientist he adopted cats from shelters in order to dissect them at home) and "cat-fearing" (the pathetic loser Ashcroft).

GravatarLast I heard, Morris put a contract out on Garfield 'cause the M-Kat heard that Gar was foolin' around with Toonces, the driving Cat.

GravatarThey do look kinda like they got caught "in flagrente." The surprised look is a crack-up.

My cats never snuggle up together, but then they're three years apart (not littermates) which probably makes a difference.

It is funny to see my tiny little tortoiseshell boss the big giant gray cat around. My male cat is, literally, pussywhipped. I never get tired of watching it.

GravatarOkay A-Man, you are cropping the pictures so I can't see how the interior decorating is going in y'alls new pad.

Tell Ms. A she's got two weeks, and I'm calling in the "queer eye" guys. First thing to go is your turtlenecks and fraternity shirts. They will have you ex-foliating in no time.

Gravataratrios, did you change the lighting in the pic after originally posting it? when i first saw it it was too dark.. in fact, i thought it was porno, because the only thing i could see was the outline of the white paw, which looked like..... well, never mind.. it's much better now!

GravatarAnybody have a celebrity cat story?

I once ordered Cat Stevens sodomized with a nightstick. Does that count as a sex-with-a-celebrity-cat story?

GravatarYou know, some days I kinda miss
Midnight the Cat (obscure boomer

you're good)

GravatarAnybody have a celebrity cat story?

I saw Cat Ballou once.

GravatarA kitty who's very sorry about the election results.

GravatarI heard that one of the rumors that the far right was floating around about President Clinton was that Socks had clawed and badly damaged all the furniture in the state rooms. At least, he wasn't accused of free-basing catnip.

GravatarA cat can look at a Stephen King.

Jeezus, I'm reaching.

GravatarMidnight? Nnnnniiiiice!

Plunk your magic twanger, Froggy! (Was it plunk? or plonk? Or something else?) Where are my Buster Browns?

I love the Friday cats, all of them. My two cats went to kitty heaven a couple of years ago, after 20 years on the planet (and my lap) and I've never been the same since. So I really dig everybody else's cats.

Gravatar1) when you are sleeping, he will attack your feet, and bite them.

2) when he starts to purr, he will lick your hand, and then start to bite it in a wierd suckling motion.

That's not brain damage- first of all, he's making sure your feet don't get away while you're sleeping.

The second thing is arrested development. At least he doesn't do it on your head, which is what my maine coon did every night of his life. They think they're kittens forever. Even when they get to be 18 lbs.

GravatarNBC on Fallujah....The soldiers fighting are barely men, many are still babies. Also, one of the Allawi relatives kidnapped is 9 months pregnant. It's a good thing George Bush is engaging this battle with people who kill and kidnap other people and people who shoot and try to kill our young soldiers and people. People who kill and behead other people should not be given safe haven.

GravatarLove 'em. A balm for the frazzled progressive soul.

GravatarI love their surprised look. When mine gets really surprised, her ears go back flat. It's honestly and truly the cutest thing in the entire world.

GravatarYou know, they look like they've been interrupting in the middle of ballroom danciing lessons.

And they're both thinking "mom makes me take these lessons."

Gravatargeor3ge,

A wonderful pair, Cats and boxes, they cant stay away from them.

GravatarOh so sweet, even sweeter when Bush concedes next week .

Gravatarderek g,

Gravatar"my girlfriend has a cat who is brain damaged or something"

How old is the cat? Young kittens will bite; they generally get over it. As for the sucking, that suggest that this kitty left momma too early.

My late cat used to make the "litter pawing" motion whenever she heard the Bad D.'s name on the radio.

GravatarVictoriaB:
The show was best known as Andy's Gang,
after Andy Devine (also of Wild Bill

was some creepy old white-haired guy whose
name eludes me. I'll do a google
search and get back to you.

GravatarBad D = Bad Dr.

Gravatarkevin,

Yes he lightened up the photo.

GravatarAwwwww, cutsie woootsie wittle kitty witties! *cuddle scratch cuddle*

Sorry. I don't have pets of my own to play with.

GravatarI've never been so depressed in my life just knowing I'll be worried about Bush blowing a hole in the side of the planet or causing an economic collapse the next 4 years. I can't hardly function these days.

Someone once said you can't be stressed watching a sleeping cat and there are lots of sleeping kitties upthread! Thanks all - now I know it's Friday!

GravatarPeople who kill...other people should not be given safe haven.

Guess the troops are fucked.

GravatarIncognito,
I know what you mean. I bounce between doom, gloom & fear, over to giddiness at the idea of the sane people who still work for the government leaking whatever they can and eventually, Bush going down in scandal and ruins.

Someone needs to explain to Crisco Johnnie all about this separation of powers thing and checks and balances and all that dry boring stuff that most NINTH FUCKING GRADERS have figured out.

Thank you.

GravatarAw, your little grey cat looks like my little grey cat. Spittin' image.

GravatarThose two should get a room.

GravatarThe kitties seem to be thinking "goddamn papparrazi"!

GravatarAs for the sucking, that suggest that this kitty left momma too early.

If it's still pretty young, you can pretend to be a mother cat and "wean" it -- push it away when it starts that, and be consistent about it.

Worked with Alex (Burly Bastard Boy) who we adopted off the street. He's now 15 pounds, so I'm glad he doesn't wrap himself around my neck and chew on my head while I'm watching TV any more.

GravatarMy parents had some kind of weird hate thing for Buster Brown; they wouldn't let me listen to it, and they wouldn't buy me Buster Brown shoes. Let's Pretend was OK, though. (Wasn't that the one with the Cream of Wheat jingle that ended, "We all love Cream of Wheat"? Nuts, the tune's going to get stuck in my head now. My parents wouldn't get Cream of Wheat either. Said it was yucky.)

Super cats, y'all. Many thanks for sharing 'em.

GravatarNocturnal foot attacks - for the whole first year of his life so far, our cat has bloodied our toes regularly. He just won't stop chasing feet. It'll sure wake you up quick.

Gravatar2) when he starts to purr, he will lick your hand, and then start to bite it in a wierd suckling motion.

the bouch does this to me. i noticed after a while that he tends to mix it up with cleaning his paws, for ex. if i put my hand next to his paw while he is bathing it he'll just tcb on my fingers. his sister fluffy was a notorious nose-biter, usually on account of a person petting her. she liked to look you straight in the eyes while she was at it, the better to hear you scream. i don't know if she was technically crazy, or just had v. strict ideas about her personal space.

GravatarYoung kittens will bite; they generally get over it.

Funny (if somewhat lengthy) story about my cats:

As mentioned above, I got my cats three years apart and the tortie (Natasha) was taken from her mother a little too young. (The woman who gave her to me had two litters and got them mixed up, I think.) And she was a serious biter, and I couldn't break her of it.

Then, one day, she and Boris (the older cat) were wrestling around playfully and she must have bitten him a little too hard, because he reared up on his hind legs and BOXED HER EARS!

It was, without a doubt, one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

And she's never bitten me since.

GravatarWonder who the successor to this great educational luminary will be. Bob Jones III?

Listen to this knee-slapper. On NewsHour tonight, Bobo described Bush administration officials as *quietly competent and loyal*.

My jaw hit the floor pretty hard.

GravatarTheOtherWashington -

hey, thanks. i just made my first face!

you never know what you're gonna run into whilst cat blogging...
*

GravatarThought about a squirt gun on the bedside table?

Brilliant. We have occasionally had to reort to a spray bottle for behavior modification purposes -- never thought of the squirtgun.

GravatarThe End of the Raven

On a night quite unenchanting,
When the rain was downward slanting,
I awakened to the ranting of the man I catch mice for.
Tipsy and a bit unshaven,
In a tone I found quite craven,
Poe was talking to a Raven perched above the chamber door.
"Raven's very tasty," thought I, as I tiptoed o'er the floor,
"There is nothing I like more"

Soft upon the rug I treaded,
calm and careful as I headed
Towards his roost atop that dreaded bust of Pallas I deplore.
While the bard and birdie chattered,
I made sure that nothing clattered,
Creaked, or snapped, or fell, or shattered, as I crossed the corridor;
For his house is crammed with trinkets, curios and wierd decor -
Bric-a-brac and junk galore.

Still the Raven never fluttered,
Standing stock-still as he uttered,
In a voice that shrieked and sputtered his two cents' worth -
"Nevermore."
While this dirge the birdbrain kept up,
Oh, so silently I crept up,
Then I crouched and quickly lept up, pouncing on the feathered bore.
Soon he was a heap of plumage, and a little blood and gore -
Only this and not much more.

"Oooo!" my pickled poet cried out,
"Pussycat, it's time I dried out!
Never sat I in my hideout talking to a bird before;
How I've wallowed in self-pity,
While my gallant, valiant kitty
Put and end to that damned ditty" - then I heard him start to snore.
Back atop the door I clambered, eyed that statue I abhor,
Jumped - and smashed it on the floor.

Edgar Allen Poe

Gravatarsquirtguns can be kinda mean. a direct and sharp spray. don't hit the kitties in the eyes...

GravatarJennie, click on the ?.

GravatarThought about a squirt gun on the bedside table?

Cats will grow to loathe the squirt gun. Eventually, all you have to do is point it at them and they cringe.

I've also noticed that the squirt gun is good for the short term, but doesn't really act as a long term deterrant.

Gravatarpygmyowl,

thanks for the reminder, I forgot about it and happen to be blessed with clear skies tonight.

Gravatarokay, pie. i trust you. here goes...

GravatarPie -

what's it supposed to be?
*

GravatarSo how long do you guys kiss up to Atrios' pussy?

GravatarAtrios, if you like pictures of cats so much, you should buy some actual cats. They are way more interesting.

I don't know any actual cats myself, but I've seen plenty of pictures of horses, and then this one day I saw an actual horse, and sure enough, it was a whole bunch more interesting.

Also it was much bigger that the photograph, it wasn't in a rectangular frame (unless you consider the fence around the field it was in), and it had a third-dimension (or even a fourth if you include the fact that it was moving around quite a bit and, slowly I guess, getting inexorably older...)

Yep, actual animals is definately the way to go. Also robotics is getting fairly good results these days too, but you need to look out for static-electric fires caused by rubbing their synthetic fur.

Or am I missing something here?
.

Gravatarthanks for the reminder, I forgot about it and happen to be blessed with clear skies tonight.

Yay! Here, too, although it's freaking' freezin'.

GravatarDr. Pedant -

Charlie is precious. I just named the stray cat I feed twice a day Charlie. Good name for a scrappy little guy...

GravatarYeah--we had to stop using the squirt guns, actually. I lacked the self-control to not squirt them just for the shear joy it gave me to see the startled look on their faces. Damn; now I've admitted a serious personality flaw.

I'm sure though that Tena has far more self-control.

GravatarTrue story:
I had a b&w tuxedo cat -- my beloved
Murray, who went to the big litter box
in the sky in 1991, after fiften happy
years of hairball production -- and
while he lived I had a recurring
nightmare.
In my dream, Murray runs out the front
door (as cats will sometimes) and I
chase him down the street into a huge
high school gym, which is filled with
thousands of tuxies. I spend the rest
of the dream in a fruitless attempt to
pick Murray out of the crowd.

Freaks me out to this day....

Gravatarpie and Jenny ftb--I thank you for the kind words about Charley. I would pass them on to him but he already thinks far too much of himself.

You have cats, right?

GravatarI just googled. Nudibranch = sea slug.

Not a very flattering name for such an elegant creature...
*

Gravatarum. wrong place... nudibranch discussion on the other friday cat thread...
*

GravatarYou have cats, right?

No, I don't think so. I'm pretty sure they have me.

Three of them. It's lucky I have it on good authority that four is the number that marks you forever as a pathetic loser.

GravatarSadly, I have no cat stories since my longtime feline companion Zuzu died last summer at 14. But, steve's incipient Hitchcock introduction reminds me of an early gem (Uncorrected Personality Traits) which reminds me more and more of a certain politician whose name escapes me (I think it starts with a W). Imagine 4-part a cappella harmonies:

Uncorrected personality traits that seem whimsical in a child may prove to
be ugly in a fully grown adult.

Lack of involvement with the father, or over-involvement with the mother,
can result in lack of ability to relate to sexual fears, and in homosexual leanings, narcissism, transexuality (girls from the waist up/men from the
waist down), attempts to be your own love object. Reconcile your parents to
you by becoming both at once!

Even Marilyn Monroe was a man, but this tends to get overlooked by our
mother-fixated, overweight, sexist media.

So:
Uncorrected personality traits that seem whimsical in a child may prove to
be ugly in a fully grown adult.

If you give in to them
Every time they cry
They will become little tyrants
But they won't remember why

Then when they are thwarted
By people in later life
They will become psychotic
And they won't make an ideal husband or wife

The spoiled baby grows into
the escapist teenager who's
the adult alcoholic who's
the middle-aged suicide. (Oy.)

So:
Uncorrected personality traits that seem whimsical in a child may prove to
be ugly in a fully grown adult

We will teach history to the young.
We will not have a place called Yale.

Gravatarpie: my kids are so good it humbles me. The other day I overheard this: the 9 year old had accidentally stepped on the 4 year old, who was howling in pain and preschooler outrage. Big brother - "I'm sorry! Oh, will you forgive me?" Little brother - through tears - "Yes, I will forgive you, I will always forgive you."
This was not for my benefit, as they had no idea I could hear them. So as much as I want to chuck them out a window some days, I hold onto these times to remind me that we're doing alright by them.

GravatarBiblio,

Great great story. Children teach us how to be good, again. I know my daughter taught me everything I know about being human. And she's just eleven.

GravatarDr Pedant...and that's another difference between us and them. The conservative Xians are too busy "training up a child the way he should go" to learn from them. Sad.

GravatarI swear, I'd kill to see any two of my cats sitting like that.

GravatarI just love this shot. It's so..."BUSTED!"

GravatarAwww...the love in that photo.

That's it.
"Love conquers all."

and

"What the world needs now is lovesweetlove."

Although they may be worn out cliches, I believe in them.

GravatarYes. Finally some apolitical relief at week's' end. Thanks, I needed this.

Gravatari tried a squirt gun, turns out i had a fcking waterproof norwegan forrest cat.

GravatarCat Haikus

I offer my gifts
of wet furry warmth, yet you
reject my hairballs.

Little pink nose and
eyes of gold plead feed me and
I will feed your soul.

GravatarOhhhh...the Russian Blue in your picture? Reminds me of better days...Ahhhh, Mr. Toes, my Russian Blue--1982-2001. God rest his soul. Had double feet on each of his front paws. Vet said, "Never seen that before". Could always know his footprint in the snow. A lover not a fighter. I miss him; he fed my soul.

Gravatarawww... pretty kitties!!

GravatarGeorge Bush will call in all government backed student loans. He will break you.

GravatarYour stupid cat blogging is what lost us the election and symbolizes everything that is wrong with the democratic party.

GravatarThey look guilty...

GravatarNothing like a little post-election pussy...

GravatarAt the time that Frist published his family history, "Good People Beget Good People" (gag), Media Whores Online commented, "Bad People Beget Kreepy Kitty Kevorkians."

Good ol' MWO--gone, but not forgotten. (Although it may be considered insulting to Dr. Kevorkian to compare him to Frist.)

I just love Friday cat blogging. Thanks, A. (and everyone else who shares kitty photos)!

Gravatar"Mmmmm, I want to bath your furry face with my tongue, my little--WHAT! NO! Our forbidden love must not be discovered! Come, let me conceal your furriness, my love! Quick, act pissed and hiss at me, my little vixen."

GravatarToo much fun--more cat haikus:

Hacking in the night,
In the morn, hairball awaits
Step in it, squish, YUUUUUUCK!!!!

Clean litter box waits
Like kitty's own zen garden
Which Littermaid rakes

Claws like talons rip
Godawful Chintz-covered chair
Extreme makeover

Freshest water is
Not found in my kitty's bowl
Toilet is her fount

GravatarSordidly wonderful cat haikus there...

The pics are wonderful- pets gain traits from their proprietors, your cats look rather content, calm.

And to think CSpan is ending booknotes before any interviews about catblogging...

GravatarThe black and white one still has a bald nose.

Gravataryay!!! snowy saturday morning friday cat blogging!!!

thank you for the warm fuzzies ... I miss my fur children more than life itself (both put down in the last 2 years) ...

random resonses to posts above:
is Sec of Ed steps down, the new one will be Give-em-Hell-Zell ... a former teacher and the architect of the ONLY good thing that came out of his 8 years as Gov, HOPE scholarships ...

... as for the kitty purring/biting thing, that is a self-comforting behavior that starts when they're babies - when they nurse, they do the kneading thing with their paws (aka "making biscuits") and purr with contentment ... so, when they get older and purr as they're getting ready for bed, they revert to a lot of those same activities (kneading/suckling)

good saturday!!!

GravatarThese cats aren't gay, are they? Because there's a decidedly guilty expression on one of the feline's faces. I dunno, the moral values of this society just seem to be deteriorating. Don't make me call Dr. Dobson on you.

GravatarAt the risk of a tin-foil hat: not only do "liberals" (whatever the hell that means nowadays) tend toward cats, but perhaps the same kind of cats. Yours are spookily too much like my past-and-present zoos.

GravatarKitties, kitties, love the kitties.
