Post-election, I was pointing out that Bush will probably continue the pattern of incompentence and ideologically based appointments. That so many members of his cabinet will resign and all new people will come in and this will be a BIG improvement.
I said, the people he has not are his first string, the replacements will be the second stringers.
Time will tell, but I don't see how Bush is going to magically turn into a different person and I don't see how hiring more AEI ideologues is going to improve tghe mess the current batch of AEI ideologues made out of my country.

Apparently a job at American Enterprise and a clip of yourself calling Michael Moore a traitor and a supporter of Al-Queda is all you need to get a job at the White House. Remember how the Bush I middle east ambasador gave the nod to Saddam that he could take an inch of Kuwait and that resulted in his taking the whole thing?
How badly do you think they will fuck up this time? Ethnic cleansing of Palestine? Nuking Iran? How about Israel making a move on Iran, causing Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon to move in on three fronts.
Particularly if the US is perceived as weak after inflation starts to really cook and Iraq drags us down or we cut and run after the "elections".
By then, we will all be goose-stepping under black W's and eating beans and rice 10 times a week.
Well, our disasterous foreign policy could use a little comic relief...
But why not Jerry Lewis? He's very funny, and also adored by the French.

One thing I keep running into, the folks who scream the most about Moore, never saw the movie, refused to see it.
Second, I have never seen a honest discounting of the film. I think he made 1 or 2 minor errors, but that was it. They always bang on him being overweight, grundgey and rude.
Until someone does a point by point rebuttal that doesn't fall into trash talking, the movie still stands. They cannot run away from it.
EkCenTrik |

EkCenTrik,
I'm impressed by the number of trolls who've shown up to tell us that Moore lost the race for Kerry. When my enemy tries to give me advice about which tactics I should stop using, I pay attention. And then I use those tactics even more because I figure those are the ones that are hurting him the most. They can't discredit Moore's movie so they, as you note, focus on how he looks and dresses. Don't like Kerry cuz he's too elite and don't like Moore cuz he's too lower-middle-class. Kind of hard to please these guys, isn't it?

Absolutely.
One thing I keep ponging back and forth in my head is the simple fact that the trash talk is more alluring than the facts. This is why Newsweek and Time generally are not sold at the supermarket checkout counters and the Enquirer is. Moore has the handle there somehow. He makes that move across the net to making fact more interesting and oooh scandalous. We should all be thinking about that.

CaSRON'S defeat
" Idon't remember when I first realized that my campaign for United States Senate was in trouble. But one moment stands out. I was in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, home of the annual Grapes of Wrath Festival, in which locals celebrate John Steinbeck's fictional Joad family and their mythical journey from eastern Oklahoma to California. It was a Sunday morning, one week before the third anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, and I had been invited by the pastor of a local Baptist church to discuss the topic: "How Would Jesus Vote?" Both my opponent in the Senate race, Tom Coburn, and I had been invited to what was more or less an interview before the pastor's congregation. I would go first, then Coburn would speak the following Sunday, and a right-wing talk-radio host--no friend of mine, to be sure--would conclude the three-week inquiry into how Jesus would want us to cast our ballots.
Now, I must confess: My own view is that Jesus would probably not vote at all, given the organized corruption that passes for modern American politics. But the idea that Christ Himself might sit out the 2004 election was apparently not under consideration, so I accepted the invitation--much to the pastor's avowed surprise. As an active Baptist who grew up in the Baptist church, I had no illusions that most of my co-religionists were ardent Democrats, but I rarely turned down any chance to make the case for my own candidacy and that of my fellow party members. After all, wasn't Daniel blessed for braving the lion's den? "
It is offcial, you got my first laugh of the day.

Just to be sure it is understood. Just because Moore does not fit the picture of folks who want a nice palatable pundit, Moore is at this point a valid and forthright distributor of facts. His spin is not polite and definitely manipulative. And that is to my thinking needed. Damn, the horror of it all, to think the man has offended someone into at least, gasp, thinking for themselves.
He is a funny looking guy who would probably spill red wine on the white table cloth when invited in for dinner. But we probably wouldn't notice until long after he left.

You want to know how crazy it's going to get? Brian Lamb had some Cato Institute guy on yesterday morning. Ol' Brian seems to be pushing for the destruction of Social Security pretty hard these days. Probably realize that if Little Georgie doesn't turn all that money over to the insurance companies this time it's never going to happen. Over the past few months, I've seen a lot of speculation by paleocons (for example Justin Raimondo at Antiwar.Com) that if Bush won, the Iraq experience would cause him to replace the neocons around Wolfowitz with Reaganites or realists like Brent Scowcroft.
I guess this puts the kibosh on those hopes. An AEI neocon pimping for Israel--shudder.

Danielle Pletka reminds me of one of those mothers at school who hears of a case of viral menengitis in a school three thousand miles away, so she makes the decision then and there to home school her child for the next ten years and thinks that is both the best and only solution for the situation...oh and it's your only option, too.
The extremist crazy person. Every school board has one. Now that serve at the administration level.
Then State Department officials accused his organization of playing loose
with U.S. money. In every instance he was exonerated by the department's own
inspector general.
The latest charges have been dizzying. The Iraqi National Congress has been
accused of providing bad intelligence on weapons of mass destruction. INC
officials in Iraq are being investigated for a variety of crimes. Chalabi
himself, according to unnamed sources, was supposedly obstructing an
investigation of the United Nations oil-for-food program. And now he is
accused of spying for Iran.
But the charges don't ring true. Wasn't Chalabi, as chairman of the Iraqi
Governing Council's finance committee, the moving force behind the
oil-for-food investigation?

I saw Blitzer interviewing some British reporter/correspondent about the Blair/Bush visit. She patiently explained that while Bush made nice noises, much of the UK wanted to see something to prove that it isn't a one-way relationship.
Wolf then said that maybe Blair got secret concessions from Bush. The woman said that would be nice, but still not something Blair could show his people.
Wolf then nodded and said something like, "so you think these words from Bush will strengthen Tony Blair's position."
She gently corrected him again.
It was amazing to watch him try to hammer the script home in complete defiance of what she was actually telling him.
