To brighten your 1st day of 2005
"Beware the Frumious Coultersnatch "
'Twas spinning, and the slimy Pubs
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the plutocrats,
And the pundits outgrabe.
"Beware the GOP, my son!
The jaws that lie, the claws that catch!
Beware the Dubya bird, and shun
The frumious Coultersnatch!"
He took his truthful sword in hand:
Long time the 'phantine foe he sought-
So rested he by the Taxcut tree,
And stood awhile in thought.
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The GOP, with eyes of blame,
Came whiffling where the Wal-Mart stood,
And burbled as it came!
One two! One two! And through and through
The truthful blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.
"And hast thou slain the GOP?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"
He chortled in his joy.
'Twas spinning, and the slimy Pubs
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the plutocrats,

1st blogwhore of the new year Taken from the article I mentioned at the end of the aid thread. Opening of the 2008 Presidential Race as Frist is going to Asia. And Powell says that the $350 million will have to be replaced by Congress, cuz it came out of funding for other projects.

That is so nice of the administration to get the funding from other projects. I mean, heaven forbid if they were to get the money "off the books" and take it away from the billions they need to keep the killing fields of Iraq going strong. Good work, guys!

"In a letter his aides say is being sent to more than one million of his supporters, Dr. [James] Dobson, the child psychologist and founder of the evangelical organization Focus on the Family, promises "a battle of enormous proportions from sea to shining sea" if President Bush fails to appoint "strict constructionist" jurists or if Democrats filibuster to block conservative nominees.
...Dr. Dobson recalled the conservative efforts that helped in the November defeat of Senator Tom Daschle of South Dakota, the Senate minority leader who led Democrats in using the filibuster to block 10 of Mr. Bush's judicial nominees.
"Let his colleagues beware," Dr. Dobson warned, "especially those representing 'red' states. Many of them will be in the 'bull's-eye' the next time they seek re-election."
He singled out Ben Nelson of Nebraska, Mark Dayton of Minnesota, Robert C. Byrd of West Virginia, Kent Conrad of North Dakota, Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico and Bill Nelson of Florida. All six are up for re-election in 2006."

James Manley, a spokesman for Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the new Democratic leader, said Democrats had allowed 204 judicial appointments to move forward in Mr. Bush's first term.
"James Dobson needs to take a moment to focus on the facts," Mr. Manley said.
See, this is the kind of wussy thinking that we have to get past -- good lord knows I have trouble getting past it myself. These evil fucks care nothing for facts; facts prove them wrong nearly every time. They appeal to people's squick factor -- what makes them go primal in their ingrained disgust and fear. And here's a paragraph to make you bang your head against the wall a few times:
More revisionist bullshit. They kept everything in place, said "We're gone!" and expected everyone to just magically believe that everything still wasn't in place. 'Cause, I don't know about you guys, but... if we'd ctually ended our occupation, I think our death toll would be considerably lower, given that, y'know, we wouldn't fuckin' be there.

I'm still trying to get my head around the fact that Dobson is billed as a "child psychologist."
"Childish psychologist" is more probable.

Actually what was difficult about it was seeing the standup comic go out of his way during the routine to try and make people aware that although he was making jokes about the president, he was just joking and making fun. He obviously was afraid that his jokes could get him in trouble and was trying to get out of it.
When you have people, unknown and thus powerless comedians covering for their routines by apologizing to the people in the crowd for seeming to 'leftish' then you know that the brownshirts have won and established a reign of terror in this country.
It's scary cause it's only going to get worse as long as the pussy dems don't change the tone and decide that there is now a war on in this country and they now have to start fighting it.
Too bad they won't bother, otherwise they wouldn't be called pussy dems.

Noble as this sounds I'm too cynical that any money we make will be spent properly.
I don't trust any charity or relief group that is or could be run by conservatives.
Like the United Way organization whose chief earns over $100K a year and lives high on the hog while spending most of the donations on organization costs and very little on actual benefits to the people in need.
Right now there are too many stories all about the net reporting of abuse of what little funds are getting through. I'm seeing too many stories of locals over there being interviewed by non-US journalists and reporting of foriegners getting all the aid and royal treatment cause the government is trying to preserve the country's tourism industry rather than it's own people.
No. As much as I would like to see something like an art auction, I think it's too naive to think it would help.
But it's nice to know someone thought of it. Nice going n69n.

MYOB -- it could be done. We just have to PayPal or however the money directly to, for instance, Doctors Without Borders or the International Red Cross.
If we pick a day, or a few days, and hype it on all of our blogs, I bet we could raise a decent amount. I'd happily throw all music and Cafe Press sales for a few days to the IRC.
n69n -- any ideas as to what day(s) would be good? We probably should wait until students are back to classes, for maximum college-dollar impact.

• Happy New Year, all and sundry!
2005 has just got to be better than the expired and unlamented annis horribilis we just survived.
I'm thinking of the background vocals in the Beatles' song "It's Getting Better All the Time", murmuring "Can't get no worse".
Of course it can get worse, but let's hope it doesn't.

n69n -- Like I said, count me in. Do we want to do it through that eBay page, or should we set up a separate blog for it or something?

"Why would Bush bother surfing to Sri Lanka when all his followers know that he can walk on water?"
If they keep up with their shitty environmental "policies", we'll ALL be able to walk on the water!

"I don't trust any charity or relief group that is or could be run by conservatives. "
Yes, since those people have so LITTLE experience with charity!
The only cause they believe in contributing to is their own enrichment.

Can't say happy new year.....too fucking depressing. I do wish that Bush and Cheney's dicks shrivel to the size of their hearts in the coming year and fall off. The future is bleak, indeed. Get ready for Dark Ages II, the sequel, including a fresh inquisition under the auspices of A. Gonzalez, the new Torquemada.

Happy New Year, all of you still reading old threads.
Oh! and Blah3 is back from the dead and bigger than ever! (The) Vandals in Iraq, ethically-challenged SC justices, Mark Cuban is Making Sense! And more. Feels good to be bloggin' again...

Bush Co. would rather spend money killing people and destroying their country.
Hey it's one hot party up here on 135th floor towering America.
Counting security what's the Pretzeldent spending on his Corona..., I mean Inaugural? Why a lean $120 million that's simply too important to be diverted to something as trivial as tsunami relief, right?

a woman, or the feminine in men and women, seeks to share deep awareness of the world
in a sacralized communion. the presence of soft candle light, wild flowers, and the
rituals of dressing for the occasion are simply metaphors acknowledged and “lived out”
in honor of the moment. in honor of life. in honor of shared awareness of the infinite
in a moment.
